A/N: Here is the next chapter! Enjoy!

I was made to believe I'd never love somebody else,

I made a plan, to stay the man who only loved himself.

Lonely was the song I sang, 'til the day you came.

Showing me another way and all that my love can bring,

oh half of my heart has a grip on the situation.

half of my heart - john mayer

It had been two days since Jacob and Nessie had met up at the diner, but it wasn't the last time they had spoken. Jacob had made the effort to call her on both days during the day and even a cute little goodnight text. Or two.

Jacob had asked out of curiosity what she had planned for Saturday night and Nessie had been honest. Telling Jacob she was invited to a bonfire up at First Beach. She didn't say who had invited her and he never asked. He had only said he was going too and Nessie could tell by the tone of his voice he was pleased to hear she was going.

Jacob's dad and his sister, Rachel, would be there and Jacob couldn't wait to introduce them, that part he forgot to tell her.

Nessie had asked Jacob if his wife was going too, but to her relief she wasn't. Apparently she was out of town the whole weekend, in Seattle for a business trip of some sort.

Getting ready for her night out on the beach, Nessie dressed in a pair of white ripped jeans, a nude coloured turtle neck sweater and matching boots. She didn't want to bring a coat and she hoped the night air didn't get too cold. Hopefully the thick turtle neck would keep her warm.

Nessie had met Paul at the diner at 7 sharp, just like she had promised. But after her talk with Jacob the other day she couldn't help but feel guilty. She didn't want to lead him on any further, this could almost be considered a date and they had exchanged a few flirty texts over the last two days too. Nessie gnawed on her bottom lip as she stared out of the passenger window of Paul's truck, regret filling the pit of her stomach. She definitely shouldn't of agreed to go here with him.

What if Jacob knew Paul? She remembered Jacob saying he owned a garage down town.. Was it the same one Paul worked at? her usually stress-free face formed into a scowl as she got lost deep into her thoughts, she hadn't even noticed the truck had come to a stop until Paul spoke her name, making her jump out of her skin as he did.

"You okay, Nessie?" He spoke softly, his gaze one of concern as he looked at her.

Not wanting to be rude Nessie pushed her disgruntled thoughts to the back of her mind for the mean time, before plastering a big smile on her face.

"Yes, I'm fine. Sorry, got lost in my own thoughts for a while."

"That's alright, Ness." He paused for a second before continuing, his hands gesturing to the view in front of them. "Well.. we're here!" Paul said happily as he killed the engine to the truck, getting out hastily and slamming the drivers door shut behind him to meet Nessie on the other side as she got out.

The pair had walked along the beach for awhile, enjoying each other's company and exchanging conversation until the bonfire was ready. By then Paul had led Nessie to a piece of drift wood on the beach that had been placed around the main bonfire and she could see that there had been a huge feast made for the night, food spread across a long fold out table, soda cans and beers overflowing the ice bucket also.

Once she had sat down on the uneven drift wood, Paul had asked if he could get her something to drink, gesturing to the full bucket of drinks and Ness had happily agreed to a can of 7up.

Whilst Paul was momentarily away getting the drinks she had glanced around the bonfire, scanning the crowds of people for Jacob. But she couldn't see him, maybe he would be there later? She didn't recall him giving a specific time he would arrive.

As Paul made his way back over with the drinks, taking a seat next to her, she thanked him. Before focusing on the story telling that had been going on around the bonfire. It had been about the Quileute tribal history, she had missed some parts beforehand as she hadn't been paying attention, but Paul quickly stepped in to fill out the blanks, thankfully.

The story teller had been halfway through the story of the wolves and the third wife's tale when she couldn't help but feel eyes on her, looking up from her 7up can which she had been staring at as she fiddled with the can lid as she listened, to meet the the burning gaze she had been longing to see all day. Jacob's.

She grinned brightly over at him, waving half heartedly as she did. Paul had saw her wave, her smile glowing as she did at Jacob and he frowned in confusion. How did Nessie know Jacob? Was he missing something? Clearly he was.

Jacob had arrived late to the bonfire, after having a heated argument over the phone with Irina about work. He didn't understand why she had to attend the business trip to Seattle and she had all but jumped down his throat, saying that it was work and she had already said she would go. She always had her reasons and it seemed it didn't matter what he said, she would still go no matter what he said.

Jacob had scanned the crowds of people around the bonfire before spotting Nessie, sat on a piece of drift wood looking all kinds of beautiful, her hair in a side ponytail and dressed in a large turtle neck sweater. She looked like a wind swept goddess, at least in Jacob's mind.

It was only after Jacob had snapped out of his blatant stare at Nessie, causing her to look up from her drink, that Jacob had noticed who she was sat with... Paul.

He should of known she'd be here with another guy, why wouldn't she be? She probably had guys lining at her door asking her out on a daily basis, not that Jacob could blame them. But it did make him jealous, even more so that the guy was Paul.

Jacob walked over to them, moving to sit next to Nessie, literally making Ness a sandwich between the two grown men.

Nessie was the first to speak, breaking the silence.

"Jacob, I'm glad you finally graced us with your presence." Nessie laughed softly, smiling at Jacob as she did.

Jacob chuckled lightly at her words of choice, his gaze meeting Paul's annoyed one before focusing back on Nessie.

"Yeah, sorry I was late-.." Jacob was cut short by Paul, annoyance dripping from his tone of voice. He had always been know to be very blunt and easily angered.

"You guys know each other? Want to clue me in?" His eyes glancing between the two of them.

Nessie looked away from Paul's prying eyes to look at Jacob, was she allowed to tell Paul about her and Jacob? It wasn't really her decision.

It was Jacob who spoke first, breaking the silence that filled the air.

"Yes, we know each other. Remember the other day I was talking to you guys at the garage about looking for a surrogate mother and that I found someone?"

Paul nodded, a confused expression taking over his features as he looked at Jacob, then to Nessie. Not fully understanding what Jacob was implying.

"Well, Nessie is the one... The one who will be the surrogate mother for Irina and me.." Jacob trailed off, looking down at Ness who seemed deeply interested in her can of soda as he and Paul had there little exchange.

"Is this true?" Paul asked Nessie, bringing her attention back to them.

Nessie nodded slowly, squeaking out a quick 'yes' as she looked up at Paul from under her long lashes.

"Well, that complicates things..." Paul mumbled, more to himself than anything.

"I'm sorry!" Ness blurted out, getting up from where she had sat. "I shouldn't of come." she added, before making her way past the two men, walking down the beach.

"Wait, Nessie!" Jacob had called after her also getting up from the wood he had sat on as she walked hastily down the beach, the same time Paul had called out for her too.

"Nessie, come back!"

The two men had exchanged looks at each other before either of them spoke.

"Look, Jake... If I had know you were talking about Nessie I wouldn't of-.."

Jacob held his hand up, silencing his friend, Paul. "It's fine, Paul. You didn't know, don't sweat it."

"I know, but still.." Paul looked away from his gaze sheepishly, watching Nessie's retreating form on the beach.

Jacob started to walk away from Paul, heading in the direction Ness had walked off in before glancing back at Paul. "We'll talk about it later, bro. First I gotta make sure Ness is ok." He called out, before picking up his pace to a slight jog to catch up to Nessie.

Nessie had only walked a few hundred years away from them before she had felt a presence jog up behind her, reaching for her arm in an attempt to get her attention, causing her to stop and to face the person. It was Jacob.

"Nessie, why'd you walk off like that?" Concern lacing his voice and he stared at her, his hands moving to grip both her arms gently.

"I don't know... I guess I just feel bad, I don't want to make things awkward for you and Paul.." She paused "Even though we came as friends..I guess I'm over reacting." She signed, her gaze leaving Jacob's to look down at her feet.

Jacob placed a finger underneath Nessie's chin softly, bringing her gaze up to meet his, a smile gracing his full lips.

"You didn't make things awkward, Ness.. It's not like we're dating." He chuckled, grinning at Ness in a care free manner, but he didn't know how much that statement hurt Nessie.

"Yeah, your right... I just hope Paul doesn't hate me."

"Nah, he won't hate you." Jacob said reassuringly as he continued to grin at Nessie.

Ness worked up a smile, nodding slowly.

"I guess you're right."

"Of course I'm right.. Now let's go back to the bonfire shall we?"

Nessie nodded her reply, smiling softly at Jacob before they both made there way back to the bonfire where Paul was waiting for them. He had asked Nessie if she was alright, reassuring her that there was no hard feelings or harm done. And Nessie was relieved to know Paul still wanted to be friends with her.

They had spent the next hour or so at the bonfire chatting together casually and Jacob had even introduced Ness to his dad and sister, they had talked for quite sometime, asking Ness general questions about her life in order to get to know her better before Nessie had decided it was late. Both Jacob and Paul had offered her a ride home and she was quick in deciding it would be best if Jacob take her.

On the ride home Jacob and Nessie were perfectly content in each other's company that they didn't feel the need for small talk. Listening to the radio softly as they drove through town to Nessie's apartment building.

Once there Jacob insisted on walking Nessie to her door to make sure she got home safely, once at her apartment door she unlocked it, stepping inside and turning herself around to face Jacob again.

"I had a really nice evening, Jake." Nessie's voice was quite and soft as she spoke, a small blush making its way across her cheeks as she looked up at Jacob, she couldn't help think how attractive he looked at that very moment, she wished she could just lock him up in her apartment and never let him go.

"Me too, Ness, me too." Jacob flashed her his signature smile.

"Well, goodnight. I can call you tomorrow?" Nessie asked, her gaze unmoving from Jacob's.

"Sounds like a plan.. goodnight Ness." Jacob replied as he lent down slightly to pull Ness into a tight embrace, his chin resting on her shoulder gently.

Nessie relished in the feeling of Jacob's arms around her petite frame, letting the warmth spread through her. It felt so good to be held like this again, she thought, her arms tightening around Jacob slightly before they both started to pull back. Nessie knew that she shouldn't of done it, but she couldn't control herself as she moved to kiss Jacob on the cheek, before quickly untangling herself from Jacob's embrace, her rosy blush even more prominent on her face, as she took in Jacob's shocked expression before she mumbled a quick and embarrassed 'goodnight' before retreating into her apartment, shutting the door on Jacob.

Jacob stood frozen for a second, surprised that Nessie had kissed him, sure it was on the cheek but it had still shocked him. Chuckling to himself he ran a hand through his hair as he made his way down the stairs of the building and out to his car, recalling the rosy cheeks on Nessie at her sudden outburst.

After driving home and getting a late night snack Jacob got ready for bed, putting on a pair of white Calvin Klein boxers. Getting comfortable between the sheets of his bed Jacob couldn't help but smile to himself in his sleepy state of mind. He had such a good time at the bonfire and being around Nessie was a easy as breathing. Even his dad, Billy and sister Rachel had taken a great liking to her and he recalled how Rachel had made a snide comment to him before they left about liking Nessie more than his wife, Irina.

Jacob knew he shouldn't be feeling this way and he kept trying to push down the guilty feeling in the pit of his stomach but he couldn't help it and as much as he hated to admit it, he was falling for Nessie.. and fast. Just when he thought things would get better, his feelings go and make things complicated.

Jacob sighed in frustration at his thoughts as they swirled around in his head, thoughts of Nessie, occasionally thoughts of Irina, before he drifted off into sleep, his frown disappearing slowly as he did.
