2 weeks later..
During the last two weeks Nessie and Jacob had been spending a vast amount of there free time together and like Jacob had promised he didn't rush Nessie into anything, giving her as much time as she needed.
But there was something troubling Nessie over the last week or so and she couldn't find it in herself to tell Jacob, she should, but she was scared and nervous. How do you tell someone they were being cheated on?
It all happened a few days ago when Nessie had finished her evening shift at the diner. She would of gone to visit Jacob at the garage but they had shut at 5 and she didn't get off shift until 6pm.
She had been walking home, going past a small bar when she had sworn she had seen Jacob's wife, Irina with the infamous Mike Newton outside. At first she couldn't tell, but then Irina moved to stand facing in her direction and Nessie had slowed her pace down to watch her.
At first the pair were laughing with each other, Irina's hand resting on Mike's arm flirtatiously and then suddenly, they were kissing as what she could only assume was Mike's car pulling up, the valet boy handing over the keys to Mike, causing the pair to separate from each other's embrace and kiss as they got into the black car, before it eventually drove off.
Nessie couldn't believe it at first, maybe it wasn't really Irina? She thought, but who was she trying to fool? She had seen plenty of pictures of her thanks to Jacob and she had even convinced Jacob to tell Irina this week about the surrogacy, she just didn't feel right about going through with it knowing his wife didn't know. She didn't want to be some kind of home wrecker. She knew Jacob was scared to tell her, but he was just gonna have to man up.
And that's what had been troubling her deeply this past week and she knew Jacob was planning to tell his wife on the weekend since she was off from work about the surrogacy and... about her. And now she was going to have to sit and watch Jacob with her at Rachel Black's birthday party on Friday, which she was currently on her way too, she had been invited by Rachel herself.
Paul had given her a lift there since she couldn't go with Jacob for obvious reasons and it wasn't long before they had pulled up outside, making there way into Jacob's dad's house.
"Nessie! I'm glad you came!" Rachel had all but squealed as she pulled her into a hug, a bright smile adorning her face.
Paul had walked off to find his friends, grabbing a beer as he did, leaving Nessie and Rachel to there own devices.
"Hey, Rach!" Nessie returned her hug before pulling back "I got you a little something." Nessie held out her hand containing a gift bag.
Nessie had seen Rachel a few times when she had been visiting Jake and the two of them had grown close. She simply couldn't come tonight without getting her something for her 27th birthday.
Rachel had grown deeply fond of Nessie, especially after what she was willing to do for her brother. But she wasn't stupid, she could tell they both liked each other more than they let on, they just didn't want to act on their feelings given the circumstances.
"Oh, Ness! You shouldn't have!" She grinned, taking the bag of goodies from Nessie as she did. "Thank-you!"
Rachel had momentarily left Nessie to put her gift away, which gave Nessie the chance to move into the living room, her eyes instantly meeting Jacob's, to which he had smiled brightly over at her.
She smiled half heartedly back at Jacob, when she noticed his wife glaring in her direction at her and Jacob's little exchange.
She awkwardly sat on the couch next to where Paul had made him self comfortable, chatting to some of the guys there who she had seen at the bonfire.
Paul had introduced her to Seth and Leah Clearwater, they were brother and sister and friends of Jacob too.
After making her rounds around the guests that had came Rachel soon joined them in the living room, sitting next to Nessie on the couch before they all engaged in conversation.
Nessie had done her best not to make eye contact with Jacob, one reason being to not make her infatuation with Jacob even more noticeable and the other being to avoid any death glares his wife sent in her direction. Although she had caught her eyes wonder in his direction occasionally before she averted them to someone or something else.
It wasn't until much later into the evening, around 8pm after a few glasses of vodka and lemonade, that Nessie found herself wondering down to the bathroom yet again to relieve herself, she wasn't wasted but definitely a little tipsy. Nessie hadn't planned to drink at Rachel's party, but she wanted a distraction... A distraction to help keep her mind off Jacob and the public display of affection he and his wife had been showing during the evening.
And it made Nessie feel sick to her stomach, especially knowing Irina wasn't faithful to Jacob. But a part from feeling sick, Nessie's heart broke for Jacob, what would happen if he found out? He would be heartbroken for sure, everything he had planned would go down the toilet, literally. And then the dilemma that had been going on in her head came rushing back to her, causing her head to spin rapidly.
Once in the bathroom, shutting the door behind her, Nessie felt her insides twist and knot as she rushed for the toilet, only to find herself throwing up the contents of her stomach. She could only imagine what a mess she looked right now.
Getting herself cleaned up and straightening her clothes as she got up, Nessie flushed the toilet before opening the bathroom door only to come pretty much face to face with Irina, though she was slightly shorter than Nessie.
"Sorry for taking so long." Nessie blurted, her eyes looking away from Irina's burning gaze as she tried to manoeuvre around her to get by.
"I know what you're doing." Irina spoke in a cold icy tone, her gaze un-moving from Nessie's face, using her arm to stop Nessie from moving past her.
"Excuse me?" Nessie questioned, her left brow rising up in disbelief. What the hell what she talking about?
"You haven't stopped looking over at Jacob all night and I don't know what it is you're planning but it stops. Right. Now." Irina's tone was sharp and harsh as she pretty much whisper-shouted at Nessie in an attempt to keep her voice low.
"I'm not planning anything! And so what I looked at him? That doesn't mean anything." Nessie spoke in a hushed tone, anger lacing her voice. Who does this bitch think she is?
"Well, I hope you're right.. whatever your name is." Irina sneered at her before continuing "Jacob is mine, you better let that sink in. Besides, why would he want a little girl like you when he has me?" She laughed almost evilly to herself before shoving her shoulder into Nessie's as she walked past her to go back into the living room, leaving Nessie astounded by the bathroom door at their encounter.
All Nessie wanted to do was go home, go home and curl up in her bed and hide from the world as Irina's voice plagued her thoughts. And what made it worse was that she was right, why would Jacob want a little girl like her? She had only turned 20 last week and you could hardly call that grown up.
Making her way back into the living room she looked over to where Jacob and Irina sat in the corner, Irina in his lap, arms around his neck as she turned her head to smile connivingly at her. She was gloating, rubbing it in Nessie's face that she was married to Jacob and not her. And Nessie hated it.
Walking over to Paul she grabbed her jacket that she had left next to him on the couch.
"Paul, I'm leaving. Tell Rachel I said bye." Nessie spoke quietly not wanting Jacob to hear from across the room where he, Irina and Rachel were now talking.
"You want a lift?" He asked, his brows furrowing in confusion, Nessie had been fine until she went to the bathroom.
"No, I could use the fresh air."
"You've had a bit to drink.. It's not a good idea, Nessie." Concern in Paul's voice as he stared at Nessie.
"I've sobered up. I'm fine. I will call my friend Alice, she can meet me at the border or something." Nessie said hastily before making her way quietly out the front door.
It wasn't until 5 minutes or so after Nessie had left that Jacob had noticed, breaking his attention from the conversation he was having with his friends as he looked around the room to find Nessie. His brows furrowed when he didn't see her. Noticing that Rachel and Irina were deeply engaged in conversation he moved over to where Paul was sat talking to Seth and Leah.
"Hey, where's Nessie?" He asked.
"Dude, she left like 5 minutes ago, she pretty much ran out of here. She looked upset but she wouldn't tell me what was wrong, she didn't even want a lift home." Paul said as he looked up at Jacob standing next to the couch, before shrugging lightly.
"She said she'd call her friend to meet her at the border."
"The border is still far from here and it's cold out.. I better go get her, take her home myself." Jacob said as he moved towards the direction of the front door before continuing "Tell Irina I've just gone to the garage for some paperwork or something." He spoke quietly, not wanting to alert his wife and sister he was leaving as he looked over at them on the other side of the room, talking still.
"Sure, bro" Paul nodded.
And with that Jacob was out the front door and into his car, starting up the engine and making his way on to the main road, driving slowly as he looked for Nessie on the side of the road.
He had been driving for about 15 minutes or so when he spotted Nessie's retreating figure, her arms wrapped around herself as she walked, probably to keep herself warm, it had gotten considerably more windy the later it got.
Jacob pulled up slowly next to Nessie, rolling down his window so he could call out to her.
"Nessie, get in the car."
Nessie looked over at Jacob in her day dream state before nodding, she wanted to protest but who was she kidding? It was cold out and she couldn't get a hold of Alice to pick her up either.
Once in the car, Nessie put her seatbelt on, keeping her eyes averted from Jacob's.
"Ness, what's wrong? She didn't even say bye before you left, are you ok?" Jacob spoke softly, looking over at Nessie briefly before continuing to drive again.
Nessie sniffled lightly before looking over at Jacob who was concentrating on the road ahead and she knew she was going to have to tell him what she saw the other night after work, she was still his friend after all and she only wants the best for him. She wasn't going to tell him about what Irina had said to her tonight though.
"I, um... I have to tell you something... Something I need to tell you.." She spluttered out, her eyes glancing nervously at Jacob and then back down to her hands that rested in her lap. This was harder than she thought, she just needed to man up.
"Ok.. So?" Jacob pried, confusion lacing his voice as he glanced briefly at Nessie, noticing her nervous demeanour.
There was a long pause as Nessie battled with herself to pluck up the courage to just say it before it all came rushing out, like word vomit.
"Your wife is cheating on you!"
Jacob had brought the car to an abrupt stop, the tires screeching as he did, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly before looking over at Nessie's shocked expression.
"How do you know? Are you sure?" He questioned, his gaze still looking ahead as he did.
"I.. I saw her outside a bar in town the other day.. Kissing that Mike Newton guy.. I'm sorry Jake." Nessie spoke quietly, her gaze not meeting Jacob's as she spoke.
"It's not your fault, Ness... I've had a hunch, y'know?" Jacob's grip tightened on the steering wheel. "All the late nights and weekend trips away, I guess I just didn't want to believe it.. I guess I thought having a baby would solve it all.." Jacob's voice broke as he trailed off, before he hit the steering wheel in anger, making Nessie jump at his outburst.
Nessie took off her seatbelt and slowly moved to wrap her arms around Jacob's neck to hug him gently in an attempt to comfort him. She had to fight the urge to spill her heart out to him, now was just not the time.
Jacob had calmed down after a few minutes and returned Nessie's hug before they both pulled back, Nessie putting her seat belt on as Jacob restarted the engine.
"Let's get you home, shall we?" Jacob half heartedly smiled at her and she nodded her reply.
It wasn't long before they had pulled up outside Nessie's apartment and Nessie slowly took her seatbelt off, the rest of the ride home had been deadly silent, but she didn't mind, she guessed Jacob was trying to process it all.
"Well, goodnight Jacob." Nessie spoke softly as she opened the passenger door to get out.
"Goodnight Ness, I will call you tomorrow.."
Nessie smiled at Jacob as their eyes met briefly, nodding as she did before shutting the door behind her, only to disappear into her apartment building.
Jacob drove slowly back to his sisters house, he wasn't going to make a scene there but he knew as soon as he got home with his wife they were going to talk, that he knew.
