Chapter 1

"It's me, Theodore "The Beaver" Cleaver. Except for a short time when I was married, I've always lived in Mayfield. Times sure have changed. My son, Oliver lives in Upstate New York with his wife and two daughters. My oldest son, Kip also still lives in Mayfield, now divorced. Kip's son, my grandson, Kyle, is 26-years-old and also lives in Mayfield with his two children, my great-grandchildren, 10-year-old Kevin and 7-year-old Kylie. I'm still living in my childhood home, which I inherited when my mother passed away. This is the story of "The Cleavers".

Kevin and Kylie sat down at the kitchen table eating cereal. Kyle came downstairs in a hurry.

"Okay, kids," Kyle said. "I am in a hurry to get to work today because my boss just called and said there's a surprise meeting in 30 minutes. Please try not to miss the bus."

"Okay, Dad," Kevin said. "We won't."

At that moment, they heard the bus pulling away. Kyle looked at his kids with a mad look on his face.

"Oops," Kylie said.

"Okay," Kyle said. "You two need to start being more responsible. That means you need to start getting up earlier so you can get ready and not miss the bus. That's the third time you two have missed the bus."

"You don't wake us up," Kevin said.

"It's called an alarm," Kyle said. "Set it."

Kip walked in through the kitchen door.

"Hey, Dad," Kyle said.

"Hey," Kip said.

"These two missed their bus again," Kyle said. "I have a surprise meeting in like now. Can you take them to school?"

"Yes," Kip replied.

"Thanks," Kyle said before running out the kitchen door.

"Okay," Kip said. "Get your backpacks so I can get you two to school."

Later at the Public Records office, Kyle sat down at his desk filling out paperwork. Carlton Rutherford walked over to him.

"How's the paperwork coming?" Carlton asked.

"Almost done," Kyle replied. "Listen, next time you need me to fill out paperwork that you forgot about, can you just tell me the truth instead of disguising it as an emergency meeting?"

"Fine," Carlton replied.

"So how's your sister doing since I broke up with her?" Kyle asked.

"Well," Carlton said. "She's back in New York and back together with her boyfriend, who she has wrapped around her finger."

Carlton looked at Kyle.

"You seem stressed today," Carlton said.

"My kids missed the bus again," Kyle said.

"Oh," Carlton said.

"You know, they want a pet," Kyle said. "But if they aren't responsible enough to catch their bus, how can I trust them with a pet?"

"You can't," Carlton replied.

A young female intern walked into the office.

"Reporting for duty," the intern said.

"Okay," Carlton said, handing the intern some papers. "Can you go digitize these papers?"

The intern looked at the papers.

"Oh my God!" these intern exclaimed. "These papers are from 2000! I wasn't even born yet!"

The intern walked off and Kyle looked at Carlton.

"Great," Kyle said. "Now my children are irresponsible and I feel old."
