Chapter 3
Kip, Beaver, and Kyle sat at Kyle's kitchen table eating breakfast. Kyle kept sneezing and blowing his nose into napkins.
"Are you sure you don't need to go to the doctor?" Beaver asked.
"I went to the clinic during my lunch break yesterday," Kyle replied. "They said it was just allergies."
"They sound like bad allergies," Kip said.
"I know," Kyle said. "And they're not that bad when I'm not home."
"Have you been around any dogs?" Beaver asked.
"No," Kyle replied. "And we don't even have a dog."
Scout ran downstairs and into the kitchen and sat down on the floor. He then wagged his tail and looked up at Kyle. Kyle looked at Beaver and Kip.
"You were saying?" Kip asked.
Later, Kyle lectured Kevin and Kylie while they sat on the couch.
"So you've been hiding a dog in the house for a week," Kyle said.
"We didn't know you were allergic," Kevin said.
"We've been trying to find a home for him," Kylie said. "And we've been taking good care of him."
"Where did you even get a dog?" Kyle asked.
"There was a pet adoption going on down the street from school," Kevin replied.
"Why would they let two underage kids adopt a dog?" Kyle asked.
"They did," Kevin said.
"I'm sorry," Kyle said. "But Scout has to go back to the shelter."
"No, Dad!" Kylie shouted. "What if they put him to sleep?"
"Yeah," Kevin said. "We trying to find a home for him."
"He can't stay here," Kyle said. "I'm allergic to dogs."
A few minutes later, Kyle knocked on Kip's door. Kip opened the door to see Kyle wearing a facemask with Scout on a leash.
"Dad," Kyle said. "Can Scout live with you until we can find him a home?"
"Okay," Kip said.
"Thanks," Kyle said, handing the leash to his father.
