TRIVIA: Any idea on where they are/what they're doing? (clue; something someone in the story said a while ago regarding Valentine's Day, and Sue's shoes are big clues)

?-?

"Where are we going?" Sue asked after she and Jack said their hellos.

"Hello, Jack! Come on in! We were just finishing our breakfast. Would you like anything?" Carla said, coming to see who was at the door, Sunny following, quietly woofing her hello.

"Hi, Mrs. Thomas." Jack smiled at her.

"Carla, please." She interjected.

"Carla, no, thank you. I just ate, and was hoping to take your daughter out today."

"Yes, she told me you vied her to take the day off, and have some secret plans."

"Yes, ma'am." He replied.

"Well, I'm going into the kitchen to finish my breakfast. I will be back in a few minutes." Sue said, walking back into the kitchen.

"How is it out there," Carla said, peering outside through the glass screen door. Jack moved a few inches into the house so she could see.

"Beautiful. It's in the low 50's, and the sun is out, just beautiful. It's unseasonably warm, but it's perfect." He said, a faraway look of daydreaming of the plans he had for later on.

"So what are your plans?" she asked.

Jack smiled widely. "You will just have to wait and see. I'm sure she will come home, bubbling with excitement, and you will hear all about it."

Carla smiled. "Alright, then."

"I'm ready!" Sue said as she pulled a jacket on. Jack eyed what she was wearing; jeans, a long sleeve t-shirt, and gym shoes. "What?" she asked when she saw him scrutinizing her outfit.

"Do you have different shoes?" he asked.

"And what's wrong with my shoes?" she asked, hands on her hips.

"Nothing. Your outfit's perfect, except for the shoes."

She pursed her lips and walked over to a closet by the door. "Pick them out, since you're the expert." She said as she opened the door to find shoes and coats.

Jack kneeled down to look at the options. "These." He said, handing her a casual ankle boot with a slight heel. He remembered that she always said that they were comfortable, so he thought they were perfect.

"These?" she asked. He nodded. "Alright." She said as she sat down on one of the stairs going upstairs and changed her shoes. Once she finished, she stood up. "Better?"

Jack smiled. "PERFECT." He signed.

Sue smiled, then the couple left the house.

"Have a great time!" Carla called after them.

Jack raised his hand and waved. "We will!"

Bobby was grateful he could sleep on planes. If he couldn't, he would be in big trouble since he wasn't planning on staying anywhere. It was just a quick, one day visit to surprise Darcy. He took a taxi from the airport to her house, and was now standing at her front door, ringing her doorbell. It was 6AM in California, but he didn't care.

About a minute later, she opened the door, a stunned look on her face. "We- Bobby! What are you doing here?"

"Happy Valentine's Day, darlin'." He said, picking her up. She was still wearing her robe, and she wiggled, trying to make him put her down.

"What are you doing?" she asked once he did.

He shrugged. "Surprising you."

"Some surprise."

"You don't like it?" he asked, seeing her frown.

She smiled again at him. "No, I love it. I just have a busy day today. You know how I don't like surprises."

"Well, I thought you'd like this one."

"I do. I just wish you'd warn me!" she exclaimed as she walked into the kitchen, back to her coffee.

"Isn't that missing the point of the surprise?" he replied, closing the door and following her.

She considered this. "I guess."

He smiled. "Can't I come along on this 'busy day'?"

"She smiled widely. "I guess."

"Then I can take the most beautiful women out to dinner afterwards." He said, taking her into his arms.

"I like that." She smiled wider.

"Alright, then. It's a date!"

"It's a date." She repeated.

?-?

"You're still not going to tell me, are you?" Sue said as they drove down the highway. Jack shook his head and smiled. He'd had the same smile on his face since he arrived on her doorstep that morning. She smiled herself as she looked around. She knew they were in Maryland, since they had crossed the Eastern Bay. Now they were zig-zagging on small highways, and were possibly even in Delaware. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful, unseasonably warm February day, and no matter what they did, she knew it would be perfect.

She was in a little daydream of what could be at the end of the trip when Jack touched her shoulder. She looked around. They were stopped in a small parking lot. She looked at him for an explanation. "We're here."

"We are?"

Jack nodded, then proceeded to get out of the car and grab his backpack from the backseat. She did the same.

"Where are we?" she asked after she walked around to the other side of the car.

He just smiled. "Somewhere."

Sue looked around. The parking lot only had a few cars, and it seemed to be in a wooded area. She had absolutely no idea where they were.

Jack touched her shoulder. "Come on." He said, nodding towards a trail nearby.

Sue was curious, but she knew he wouldn't say anything. She just had to trust him. "I wonder what's at the end of this trail." She whispered to herself as she followed Jack.

Sue absolutely loved the trail. She had a wonderful time spotting birds and wild animals scurrying around. She tried taking a few pictures, but unfortunately, most of the animals scurried away before she could get a clear shot. She got a few that looked nice enough, though.

After about a half hour of moseying along, they came to a clearing, and when Sue saw what was in that clearing, she smiled widely. "So that's why you wanted

these shoes!"
