"Mayor! There is a call on line one. They are very urgent." "Can you just take a message? I'm not in the mood to talk to anyone right now." "It's the hospital. It's about Emma." Regina hurriedly picked up the phone. "What happened? Is she okay?" Regina asked panicked. "It would be better if you came down here so I could talk to you in person." Dr Whale replied.
Regina hung up the phone and ran out of her office telling her secretary she was leaving for the day. She rushed to her car and sped to the hospital. On her way she called Snow and David and asked them to pick up Emily from her friends house. She quickly explained what she had been told. Then she left Henry a message so that when he got out of class he would be informed. It seemed like it was taking forever for her to get to the hospital. Screw the laws. Her wife was hurt and she didn't know how bad.
Finally she arrived at the hospital and demanded Dr. Whale. He took her to his office so he could explain everything to her in privet. "How is she? I want to see her now!" Regina demanded. "It's best if I explain things to you first." replied Dr. Whale. "Emma was in a car accident. We don't know how just yet but we found these flowers near her car." he said pointing to a mutilated bundle of flowers with a card on them. Regina picked it up and read it. 'I'm sorry babe. You were right. I love you' Regina almost started crying but pulled herself together. "Her phone was in the middle of sending a message to you as well it seems." Whale said handing her Emma's phone. All it said was 'Rumpel' but that's all Regina needed to know.
"Can I see her know?" Regina asked desperately. "Yes but I hate to tell you. She's unconscious right now." Regina sucked in a sharp breath of air and almost collapsed, catching herself on the wall. She was devastated. Was Emma going to be okay? "Why the hell didn't you start with that?!" She snapped back at him. He lead her to Emma's room and gave her some space.
As soon as Whale closed the door behind him Regina broke. She fell down on the bed next to Emma. She leaned over her grasping tight to her, sobbing. "Please come back to me Emma. I can't do this without you. I need you. I love you." She trailed off. She thought about the flowers that Emma had gotten her. Emma was planning on apologizing even though she didn't have to. It wasn't her fault. She felt horrible. She just wanted her Emma back.
She wished Emma was awake so she could hear her say these things. She wished she could take back their fight earlier. None of that mattered anymore.
She looked at Emma's face. She looked so peaceful but so distant. Regina's heart broke even more. She laid there for a while just holding Emma and feeling her breath. Hoping she would wake up soon.
Regina wasn't sure how much time had past since she had gotten there. She felt her phone go off in her pocket, it was Henry calling. She went to the corner of the room and answered the call.
"Hi honey." she answered in a low tone. "Mom! I got your message. What's going on? Is Ma okay?" He asked, panic in his voice. Her heart clenched. "I'm not sure Henry. She hasn't woken up yet." Her voice hitched as she spoke. "I'm on my way mom. I'm leaving now, I should be there early tomorrow." "Henry you don't have tot do that." Regina said. Even though she desperately wanted him there. "I'm coming mom. End of discussion." She whispered a small thank you and he hung up.
She looked over at Emma lying there and sighed. "What happened to you?" She asked allowed knowing no one would answer her. She needed to do something. She called Snow and asked if she could come stay with Emma so she could get to the bottom of this.
After she hung up the phone with Snow she went back and sat on the bed with Emma while she waited. She didn't want Emma to be alone. She laid her head on Emma's mid section and just held her.
She sat up when she heard the door open. She made eye contact with Snow and Snow's face dropped. Regina's face was covered in dried tears and devastation and her daughter was unconscious.
"She doesn't look like she was in a car accident." Snow stated, surprised. "Her magic healed the physical wounds but it can't wake her up. She has to do that on her own." Regina said running her hand down Emma's cheek lovingly.
Snow grabbed the chair from the corner of the room and brought it over next to the bed. She settled down with the book she had brought. She planned to read to Emma like she had read to David when they were cursed.
Regina gave Emma a kiss on her forehead and a quiet I love you. Then she left and went to the bathroom to clean herself up. She made herself look as regal as possible. She was going to get to the bottom of this.
Regina slammed open the door of Gold's shop. "Why the hell was my wife typing your name when her car crashed?" Regina spit out. "Hello dearie. You saw my handy work I take it." he said with a smile. "What the hell did you do?" Regina seethed. "My happy ending is gone and I'm seeing to it that yours will be too." Rumpelstiltskin had lost Belle to old age and soon after returned to his old ways of being the dark one. Regina's anger ignited like she'd never felt before. She grabbed him in a vadar hold with her magic and easily over powered him, he had been gone so long without magic that his magic had weakened. She dragged him to the town line never letting go, she wasn't giving him a chance to escape. "Don't mess with my family!" she snarled at him and shoved him across. Dooming him to a life without magic. A life of just Mr. Gold. She made easy work of getting rid of Rumpel. The dark one may be powerful but no one messes with Regina's family and gets away with it.
On her way back to the hospital she stopped by the loft. She wanted to let Emily know what was going on herself without giving her to much detail. As well as tell her she would be staying with the Charmings a little longer.
Emily was to young to understand what was going on. She was upset she didn't get to see her moms now that they were home. Regina's heart clenched. All she wanted was for her little family to be together and happy.
She thanked David and gave Emily a big bear hug just like Emma would have. Then she got back in her car and headed back to the hospital. She asked Whale if there had been any changes and sighed when he shook his head no.
She went back to Emma's room and thanked Snow for staying with Emma and filled her in on what had happened with Rumpel and then Snow left to give her some time and space.
Regina was emotionally exhausted. She climbed onto the bed with Emma and laid down beside her. She fell asleep holding onto Emma, never wanting to let her go. She was woken up the next morning by Whale coming in to do his normal tests. No changes where found. Once he was done she laid back down with Emma.
About an hour later she heard the door open. When she looked up she saw Henry. She sat up and smiled.Henry came into the room fear etched on his face. "Is Ma okay?" He asked his mother. Regina quickly hugged him tears starting to fall down her face. "I don't know Henry. I really don't know…" She chastised herself for crying in front of her son but he just hugged her tighter and reassured her. "It's okay mom. I'm here. Let it out." That opened the flood gates and Regina sobbed in her sons arms.
Regina and Henry stayed with Emma for the next few days. Her parents called every day to see how she was doing but they didn't stop by because they had Emily. The two of them took turns going and getting food for the both of them from Granny's but for the most part neither of them left her side.
