Kol walks into their Mystic Falls penthouse, finding the house more chaotic than he remembered leaving it. Rebekah has invited the entire town to their brother's wedding. He couldn't even let himself think of the mess that the poolside of the penthouse might be in.

focus. focus.

"I've been waiting for two hours, where is the DJ?" Kol says through his teeth to the person on the other side of the phone.

"Hey you, come here, have you sent the car to pick up the girl?" He asks one of Klaus' minions.

The short bearded man nods to gesture yes.

"Good, can you make sure the rest of the arrangements are also ready, close friends are staying for the duration the ceremonies, leading up to the wedding."

The man nods again, without uttering a word.

"Good, now go check on Bekah, I have no idea how much longer she will take to come down as if it's her engagement." Kol murmured under his breath, saying the latter part of it to himself.

Klaus stood in front of his vanity table, looking at himself in the mirror. lost in deep thought.

"Life is a long journey, and in this long journey, things that are made of the glass often break, a lot like the thing we carry in our chests. Maybe that's what we call a heart, the heart is never satisfied alone, it always yearns for someone. A lot like you and I, who are complete together. Your light burned down my bridges, I have searched for you forever".

"Thank you, Niklaus, but there is no way I am saying this as my wedding toast." Elijah looked at him with a little bit of a disappointed face.

"Suit yourself brother, you asked. I delivered. If you don't like it. you fix it. I have already offered you my entire penthouse for the reception and not to mention the guests." Klaus said a little bitter as his older brother.

"Niklaus." Elijah scoffed.

Klaus shook his head and begun to walk away from his brother. "Where you going?". Elijah called at him.

"I will be right back." Klaus mouthed, as he continued to walk and his fake smile faded.

Hayley was getting ready for tonight's function by her makeup table, while Rebekah chatted up Davina about her stay in northern Italy, her multiple casual hookups, which led to nothing. Davina laughed disapprovingly at Rebekah's tone.

"So you mean to tell me, in the past 6 months that you have been there. you got nothing?" Hayley joked.

"Yeah, that's what I am telling you. Don't laugh at a girl now. I am glad you saved me from the misery of staying there any longer".

"Well, it's not like you wouldn't be invited to our engagement," Hayley said forcing a smile. "Also, where is your friend, she is still coming, right? make sure she gets one of the good rooms?".

There is a difference between being lonely and being alone. At least when you are lonely you feel like someone can change that, but when you feel utterly alone there is no going back. Mom, I wish you were still here, I cannot stand being alone anymore.

Caroline's thoughts were interrupted by the loud sound of her cellphone.

"Hello?", she mouthed softly.

"Caroline, have you landed?" Rebekah asked eagerly, she and the blonde have become very fond of one another after they run into each other on a lonely night in Paris. Rebekah never thought she would invite a friend she had only known for under a year to her brother's wedding. She never made friends easily, it took her years to learn to trust people. But she and Caroline became fast friends.

"Of course I've landed Rebekah, how else am I answering your call," Caroline said sarcastically.

"No need for the sass. I am just so glad you decided to come." Rebekah said, truly meaning it

"Yeah, me too."

"Caroline?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you okay?" Rebekah asked softly as if she didn't want to upset Caroline.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be." Caroline lied, and she hoped Rebekah couldn't tell.

"Okay, see you soon." Rebekah ended the call, but she knew Caroline lied. She was not the same after her mother's death. She pretended to be, and Rebekah couldn't bare leaving her friend alone, even though it had been some time since her mother passed away, but the wound was still fresh.

Klaus stood in the middle of the mystic graveyard, where almost everyone they knew had been buried. That's why he did not like coming back here. He couldn't take the sharp pain that trying to stab its way through his heart.

How did you get here?

The memories of his friend began to run through his head. He recalled him playing football with the brunette boy, with the most genuine smile and Piercing green eyes, in the summer when they were 6. He recalled teaching him how to ride a bike for the first time when they were 18.

why did you do that? why. I want you out of my head.

He shut his eyes as the pain of recalling his dead friend's last memories got too hard.

I will never forget you.

Back in the penthouse, the guests have all gathered around the pool chit-chatting and having drinks. Hayley and Elijah are occupied taking pictures. They were taking pictures with silly words on cardboard cutouts like Mr. and Mrs. That's when Davina's eyes caught a small redhead figure walk towards them.

"Isn't that Aurora?" Davina says concerned.

"Oh no. She still comes around?" Rebekah asks Devina annoyed.

"I don't know, I didn't think she did". Davina sharing Rebekah's annoyance.

"Oh no, she is approaching Kol." Rebekah looked at Davina like you better get your man.

"Hey, have you seen Klaus?" Aurora asked Kol.

"Hi to you too psycho. No, I have not. he is around though." Kol said with his dickish smirk.

"He invited me, he said I can stay over. But he is nowhere to be found." Aurora explained to Kol, without giving his previous remarks any reaction.

Caroline arrives at the massive penthouse and takes a moment to take in the architecture, and colour and details of the house. But what catches her eyes is the paintings around the living room. They are beyond beautiful, unlike anything she has seen before.

only Mikaelson money can have this, in this part of the country.

She grabs her luggage to go in, but realizes no one is inside, everyone is partying by the pool. She drags her luggage with her to the entrance of the poolside and stands by the entrance to try and find Rebekah.

God, I don't know anyone here, I don't see Rebekah.

She tries calling Rebekah but does not get a response.

Seriously?

She tries her number again and at that moment, a waiter passing her hands her cutout cardboard and she takes it without question. "Thanks." she murmurs, still dialling her friend.

Klaus walks into the poolside entrance to find a blonde girl with her language and a cutout cardboard sign that says 'waiting to be picked up'.

As Caroline turns around from her phone, she finds a dark blonde figure standing rather close to her. She looks at him puzzled.

He bends towards her as if he is trying to pick her up in his arms. "um. excuse me? she quickly says as she flinches from his touch.

"odd. ladies complain about men nothing doing what they ask of us." Klaus's British accent takes her by surprise. But she still looks at him puzzled. "Your sign. it says to throw you in the pool." He points down at the cutout cardboard and she picks it up to read what it says.

"Oh, actually someone randomly just gave this to me," she said with a little giggle. Klaus trying picking her up again as a joke and she takes a step back annoyed. Klaus looks at her one last time and walks away with a grin. "seriously".

"CAROLINE". Rebekah calls as she finally sees her friend standing at the poolside entrance. She runs to her, alongside Davina. The two girls hug each other like they haven't seen one another for years.

"How long has it been?" Rebekah teases Caroline

"Only 3 months, you cant stay away from me longer than that"

"Caroline. this is Davina, my Brother Kol's girlfriend."

"Nice to meet you Davina" Caroline extends her hand but Kol grabs it instead and pecks a kiss on her hand.

"Likewise Caroline, thank you for putting up with our little sister for so long. Can't imagine the damage she has caused your brain." Caroline laughs a little, and Davina throughs a small fisted punch towards Kol so he would stop teasing.

"Rebekah, Kol, photos please," Elijah calls from afar.

"Coming," Rebekah replies, and grabs Caroline's hand. "It would be rude not to."

As they all take photos, Caroline feels someone gaze on her, she slowly looks to find none other than the man who threw to pick her up grinning at her. He is one of them.

After a few group shots, Caroline asks if Rebekah could show her the room she is staying at, her luggage still at the entrance of the poolside.

"How did you guys manage such a big penthouse in Mystic Falls?" Caroline asks as she is taking in the mesmerizing house again.

"Klaus probably compelled himself it." Rebekah jokes but notices Caroline isn't paying any attention to her. "It's my brothers. Klaus bought it a long time ago before we moved to New Orleans."

"It's beautiful, he has good taste."

"Don't tell him that, it'll get to his head" Rebekah Jokes.

Later that evening everyone was dancing and drinking by the poolside. Laughter and joy all around Caroline. She hadn't been around this many people, and feeling this content in a while. Her thoughts were interrupted when Davina pointed out how Aurora was dancing up on Klaus. She leaned a little forward to be able to see behind Rebekah, and at the man, Davina was referring to.

Klaus?. "Let the couple do their thing." Caroline confused at Davina's reaction.

"oh darling, no. Klaus doesn't do relationship." Rebekah says laughing but disappointed, "and not with her I hope."

"I'm gonna look for Kol," Davina said before she disappeared from in front of the girls.

"Caroline, are you okay? I wasn't sure if you would make it here" Rebekah gave Caroline an appreciated smirk.

"I'm okay Rebekah."

"Dance then."

"Apologies, can I borrow my brother for a second?" Elijah said interrupting Klaus and Aurora.

"I'll get myself a drink." Aurora scoffed.

"what's wrong brother? Don't wanna go through with the wedding?" Klaus teased but his face fell at his brothers' downcast expression.

"His brother called Niklaus." He mouthed softly to him as if someone was listening to them. Klaus felt his heart speak a beat.

"I don't wanna talk about this Elijah."

"Niklaus, you mustn't run from this, it will eat at you one way or another."

"Nothing is holding me here brother. I will leave if you don't drop it" Klaus begun to walk away.

"Threats won't help you. why don't you let it out?" Elijah couldn't even finish before Klaus brushed his shoulder walking past him.
