The sun was nearly set by the time Akane wandered back through the gardens. She was heading for The Sun Dorms and supper when a voice called out to her.
"Nakamura?" Headmaster Cross patrols on the weekends! Am I out too late? Akane turned wide-eyed to her headmaster. "It's alright, it's not curfew yet, but you should think about heading back before it gets too dark," he suggested with a reassuring smile. Akane nodded, bid him goodnight, and hurried on to her dorm.
Meanwhile, Aido restlessly roamed the corridors of The Moon Dorms, frustrated he could find nothing to occupy his mind or entertain him longer than a few minutes. Or more accurately, he couldn't distract himself of the mystery of the Unfortunates he'd uncovered. He'd told Kaname his theory on Akane that he believed true to her situation but researching the cases hadn't made for pleasant reading.
The Unfortunate cases Aido had found, spanned over thousands of years, and always resulted in the Human's grizzly death at a young age. They died, usually at the hands of blood-crazed Level E's, but there was nothing on the Unfortunates themselves of any use. Sometimes nothing but a name and a description of their death. But nothing about who they were, or even where they came from. It was infuriating!
He wondered how long it would take for Akane Nakamura's name to join the list of those Unfortunates he'd cared to remember, as it inevitably would. He found himself continuously trapped in this irritating thought loop, all because of that strange Human, whose scent plagued him, even now. What was it that she had or maybe lacked, that the rest of humanity did not? Was there a way he could pinpoint that quality and crack open an age-old mystery? What the hell makes that Human smell so good? It makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
Aido stopped abruptly in the lobby of The Moon Dorms and shook his head to scatter such dangerous thoughts. He knew he already had less control over his bloodlust than some of his peers. Yuki Cross was a bad enough enticement with the scent and taste of her blood. But Akane's scent was not just alluring, she was also a rare anomaly of humanity. It was maddening his very nature prevented him from studying her in greater detail. He had to understand this, crack this code. He had to see her again. Before he realised what he was doing, Aido was striding through of the doors of The Moon Dorms and out into the dark academy grounds.
