A/N 1:

-I love to travel and share the experiences with others. Since I can't drag you guys to Hawaii with me, here's a taste of what I found there.

A/N 2: Where to find Taro Root Fried Pie

-McDonalds in Hawaii. McDonalds tailors their menu internationally and domestically: Germany has croissants but no biscuits; India has tofu burgers but no beef; and Hawaii gets taro root fried pies. And yeah, they're purple.

...

"What is that?"

"Thith?" Kono asked, opening her mouth with a grin.

Danny grimaced. She had definitely been spending too much time around Steve. "Yes, the thing you're eating."

Kono swallowed with noisy relish. "Taro root pie."

"Tar-uh-what?"

"Taro root. Here," she broke off a piece of the pastry, "try a bite."

Danny held the warm, deep-fried, purple-filled pastry gingerly, as though it were a live grenade. "What exactly is 'taro'?"

"A plant. Try a bite."

"Is it poisonous?"

"Do I look poisoned?"

"Not yet."

"Oh my gosh, Danny, just eat it!" Kono exclaimed, punching him lightly in the arm.

"What if it kills me?"

"It won't if I kill you first."

Danny knew she was right and quickly stuffed the entire piece into his mouth. He chewed. His eyes widened. He chewed more vigorously, swallowed, licked his fingers, and looked up hopefully. "Got any more?"

Kono laughed. "I knew you'd like it!" She nodded at the yellow and red sign across the street. "Right over there, brah."

Danny's eyes widened. "No way!"

"I've heard," she said, taking another bite, "that you poor mainlanders only have the fried apple pies."

Danny continued to stare out the window wistfully. "Sometimes there's peach or strawberry, but yeah…"

"So go get one."

"I don't know," he hesitated. "I feel like I'm violating some sort of food code. Like, I didn't fly all the way out here to eat at a McDonalds."

"Only if Steve catches you." She grinned wickedly. "Man hates the place. But I won't tell if you don't."

Danny eyed the rookie and nodded. "Deal." Scooping his wallet into his back pocket, he headed for the door. Maybe Hawaii had ruined pizza with pineapple, but between the malasadas and the taro root pie, he could get used to the pastry scene.

A/N: I guess I started writing on here slightly after the show hit its peak. This corner of fanfiction saw averages that hit around 10 comments per chapter, or higher for one-shots, which is insanely high compared to most of the rest of this site. Lately, review numbers have dropped, which is understandable since the show has run its course and people are moving on.

So... what show are you watching instead of H50? What's filling the void for you? Looking for recommendations (but I don't have cable, so I'll take a rain check on anything that can't be found online)
