When it rains those are days I begin to look forward to but not at the same time. Rainy weather sucks in the winter, in the summer and spring I don't mind it so much. In this case I somewhat look forward to spending time with Todoroki. Todoroki my classmate doesn't get along with his father at all. I don't know why but it seems his father is the angrier on the days it rains. He usually will leave the house and stay with friends. I still remember the first time he showed up at my doorstep.
FIRST YEAR
I grab a bowl pouring my freshly popped popcorn inside. We are on a mini break at U.A. which I am so grateful for. This school so far has been stressful. I know I just got my quirk but to be attacked at school then everything with the U.A. festival. It's just a lot going on at once. I walk into my room hearing my cell ring.
"Hello," I ask answering my phone without looking.
"Hi Midoriya," greets All Might.
"Hey!" I exclaim sitting down my bowl. "How are you?" He laughs.
"I was calling to ask you the same thing," he replies.
"Well I was about to sit down and enjoy a movie night," I reply sitting on my bed.
"Good," he replies. "I want you to relax while you can. Have a normal teenage life for a little while."
"I was beyond normal," I reply. "It's overrated." I hated being quirkless. I like having this quirk passed down to me from my hero. Some people have other reasons to want to be a hero. I want to do it because I love it. I truly want to save lives and make people happy.
"Nonsense," says All Might before chuckling. "Are you watching movies with your friends?" I look off to the side of the room. I haven't invited anyone to my home. I know Uraraka or Iida would be down for hanging out. I didn't even think to ask.
"I just wanted a little quiet time," I say finally.
"Understandable," replies All Might. "I will let you go. Have fun watching your movies okay."
"Okay," I reply before smiling. I end my call with All Might hearing rain hit my window. Good thing I'm not going anywhere. I grab a hand full of pop corn shoving it in my mouth before flicking on my TV. Let's see…what am I in the mood to watch. I decide to relax watching a scary movie. I get settled into my bed hearing the rain come down harder. I glance at the window wondering how long it will continue. Maybe I shouldn't watch a scary movie. I smile knowing it will be funnier if I do.
I press play before grabbing my bowl chowing down. I decided to watch a classic horror movie Nightmare on Elm Street. I have only seen the movie in bits and pieces never seeing the whole film. The movie picks up right away. I look on in shock as the poor girl gets murder in her sleep. I watch as the boyfriend cries. Oh my god…..I jump hearing banging. I mute the TV looking towards my bedroom door. Maybe this was a mistake. Maybe I should have put on something happier.
The banging at the front door comes louder this time. I slide off my bed walking slowly towards my front door. I look at the door wondering if someone is in trouble. I get on my tippy toes looking at the peep hole. My eyes widen in shock. What the hell? I quickly open the door without another thought.
"Todoroki?" I question out loud. Todoroki looks up at me. I gasp before covering my mouth. He is dripping wet from the rain. However, the bruises on his skin is stealing the show. I notice a few scrapes and cuts as well. I grab Todoroki pulling him inside the apartment as he tried to turn and leave. "Todoroki….."
"This is stupid…" he mutters shaking his head. "I should have never come here." I close the door locking it.
"No, let me help you," I reply. Todoroki looks at me with so much sorrow in his eyes. Todoroki nods lightly before falling back against the door. "Oh god…"
"I'm fine," he replies. "I'm just tired." I nod seeing it all over his face.
"Let's get you in some clean clothes," I reply leading Todoroki to my room. "You can also take a shower if you like." I am digging in my draw grabbing some shorts for him. I turn around and Todoroki is staring at me. "Are you okay?" I am apprehensive.
"I don't know," he says honestly. I walk over to him.
"Let's get you in the shower, dry and clean," I explain. "Then we can talk if you want." Todoroki nods allowing me to lead him to the bathroom. I sit the clothes down on the shelf above the toilet. "I will be in my room if you need me." Todoroki nods again. I quickly leave the bathroom. I get to my room with my mind spinning. What is going on? I glance at the TV realizing I missed a good chunk of the movie. I stop the movie turning the TV to a channel for background noise. I glance around my room deciding to straighten things up a bit. I don't want Todoroki to be uncomfortable thinking I'm a slob. I mean my room is not messy but not the cleanest either.
"You didn't have to do that," says Todoroki standing in my door. I grab my chest because he not only scared me, but I didn't hear him move either.
"That was quick," I say before chuckling nervously. My eyes trace over Todoroki. The shower did him some good as he appears much better. I can see some bruises on him. I guess my face revealed how surprised I was because Todoroki stares down at the floor.
"I know it looks bad," he replies. "I'm fine. I can leave, let you get back to whatever it was you were doing."
"No," I reply stepping towards him. "You can stay as long as you like. My parents won't mind. They are at work though. Did you need anything to eat?" He is upset and needs comfort. I don't know how to do that. This is Todoroki we are talking about.
"Some tea would be nice," he admits glancing at me.
"Great!" I exclaim. "I will get some tea going for you." I'm not much of a tea drinker. I rush into the kitchen to fix his tea. I think he would like the Jasmine oblong tea. I don't really know for sure. God this is so hard. I don't want to ask him what kind of tea he likes. It might make him feel uneasy. I get the tea going before heading back to my room. Todoroki is sitting on my bed just staring off into my room.
"Thank you," he replies. "I hope I'm not ruining your evening."
"Not at all," I reply walking over to him sitting down next to him on the bed. "I was just watching a scary movie." Todoroki actually chuckles.
"You don't look like the type," he notes.
"Oh please," I reply blushing. "I'm getting into the movies and shows. Since getting into UA being a hero has kind of taken over my life."
"Understandable," states Todoroki. "I have been training since I presented my quirk. I don't really know what it is like to be a normal teen." I stare at Todoroki feeling this sadness deeper than the day we spoke at the festival.
"Why don't you stay the night?" I suggest. "We can stay up, watch movies, eat junk food."
"Junk food?" questions Todoroki. "I don't know about this…"
"Come on," I encourage. "It will be fun." I grab my TV remote. "Find a movie and I'm ordering the food."
"You seem way too excited about this," he notes.
"Of course, I am," I replied. "You're going to pick out a cool movie and I get to pick out the cool food."
"Cool food?" he replies. "What is cool food?"
"You let me worry about that," I state standing up. My phone starts to ring. Todoroki and I both look at the phone. I screen the call seeing it is my mom. I grab the phone heading out of my room leaving Todoroki alone. "Hey mom."
"Hey sweetie," she greets. "I was just checking on you since it is raining cats and dogs outside. I chuckle lightly.
"I'm fine mom," I reply walking into the kitchen cutting off the tea. "I hope you don't mind but I have a friend staying tonight."
"A friend?" she asks in surprise.
"It's my classmate Todoroki," I explain. "I think something happened to him. I don't want to bother him with questions. I just want to be there for him. We won't do anything too crazy. Just watching some movies and eating."
"He is Endeavor son correct?" she asks.
"Um hm." I hum as I grab a teacup. I grab the big one I usually use for hot coco. I pour the tea into the mug.
"I think it's great you have a friend staying over," replies mom. I can hear the smile on her face making me blush.
"Mom…" I mutter grabbing a tray to put the tea, sugar, and milk on. She starts to laugh.
"Your father and I are okay with him staying over," she replies. "I will be home around the usual time. Your dad will be back in 2 days."
"I didn't forget mom," I reply. "I have to get Todoroki his tea. I will talk to you in the morning okay."
"Sure thing sweetheart," she replies. "Have fun." I smile ending the call. I love that my mom trusts me. I never let her know how bad things were in school. She already felt bad that I was once quirkless. I grab the tray heading into my room. Todoroki glances at me.
"A tray?" he asks.
"Well yeah," I reply. "I don't know what you like with your tea. S-so I brought everything." Todoroki gives me a small smile making me blush.
"Thank you," he says making eye contact with me.
"D-Did you pick out a movie," I squeak. I sit the tray down on my nightstand.
"I'm still looking," he replies. "I'm honestly afraid to pick something you won't like."
"Nonsense," I reply. "I'm going to order our food." I decided to go with burger and fries some buffalo wings to boot. I place the order looking at Todoroki as he continues to flip through movies and shows.
"Anything you like?" I ask him.
"I don't know what I like," he replies. "I don't really watch TV like that."
"I can relate a little," I reply. "I know there has to be something you that piques your interest." Todoroki frowns a little.
"This looks interesting," he says looking at an action movie. It's old but I remember seeing it when it came out in theater. It is a good movie. I sit next to him.
"Good pick," I reply. "Let's check it out." Todoroki nods before looking confused. My bed is a twin. We would have to be in my bed to see the TV properly. "You can move over. It's fine. I will sit at my desk right now until the food arrives."
"Is it good food?" he asks quietly.
"Of course, it is," I reply before laughing. Todoroki gives a small smile before pushing play on the movie. I sit down at my desk not wanting to get too comfortable. The movie picks up right away. Of course, at the good part the food arrives. Todoroki looks like he is really enjoying it I don't have the heart to tell him to pause it. I head to the door already paying for the food ahead of time. I tip the driver before heading into the kitchen to plate the food. "This looks tasty." I don't want to give Todoroki too much.
"Wow….." says Todoroki watching at me walk into the room.
"Lucky for you I skipped out on ordering soda," I reply handing him his plate. "I got us a cheeseburger with lettece and tomato, spicy ketchup and a dash of mustard. I also got buffalo wings mild. I put 4 on your plate. I hope you don't mind."
"This is beyond anything I thought you would have gotten," he replies taking the plate. "Um anyway we can cut this sandwich in half."
"Um sure," I reply. "Usually you just man it with two hands."
"Man it…." He says staring at the plate. I sit my plate on the bed pulling up my office chair. I sit down getting comfortable before grabbing my burger.
"You grab it like this," I reply. I must use two hands to hold this cheeseburger together. Todoroki follows my movements. "Then you bite into it," I open my mouth wide biting the burger like a hungry animal. I'm hungry but there is also no other way to eat this burger. Todoroki follows my movements getting ketchup on his chin. I can't help it as I giggle.
"This is so messy," he states grabbing a napkin whipping off his chin. "However, it is delectable." I smile at him as we go back to eating. Todoroki was full after one round. I climb into bed after putting everything left over in the fridge. We finished the movie and Todoroki stands up. "I must get going."
"Todoroki you can stay," I say trying not to sound desperate. I had a lot of fun tonight. Besides I know he deep down he doesn't want to go back out there. "You can stay."
"I couldn't," replies Todoroki making a move to the door. I move quickly from my spot on the bed closing the door shut. I used a little of my quirk not meaning to. Todoroki slowly looks at me.
"It's okay…." I say softly. "You can stay the night Todoroki. I promise you it's okay. No one has to know." Todoroki stares at me with his face unreadable. What is he thinking? He walks over to me sitting back down on my bed.
"Can I pick another movie?" he asks.
"Of course," I reply.
