Chapter 3: Hole in My Chest
Edward's POV
The past 17 years have been the most painful years in all of my existence. I'd been on this Earth for for 121 years already. But nothing I have ever experienced can come close to matching the pain from the last 17 years. That was when Bella left me for reasons I still did not understand.
I was the happiest man on Earth the day that I married Bella. I thought she was too. It wasn't unt two weeks later that Bella changed on me. She kept saying that she wanted to seperate from me and she looked scared all of the time. I knew that something was wrong but she refused to tell me. She refused to talk to me and tell me what happened to make her change her mind about being married to me. Was I really that bad of a husband? I refused to give up. I knew deep down that something was wrong. There was something troubling my wife. Something that she refused to share.
What I never imagined was that Bella would leave me on her own one day. But that is exactly what happened. One day after a family hunting trip we came to find Bella gone. Bella had also taken one hundred thousand dollars worth of cash with her. Probably thinking we wouldn't notice that there was money missing. Not that I, nor the rest of the family, cared about the missing cash. We just wanted to find Bella. We wanted her back where she belonged. With us. Her family.
We'd even gone to Italy to confront the Volturi thinking maybe they had something to do with Bella's disappearance but they were innocent. For once the Volturi were innocent. It was a good thing that the Volturi hadn't gotten to Bella. So what had? It didn't make any sense. We never gave up hope that we would find her. Even now after so many years have gone by.
The pain of losing my wife grew and grew with each passing day. Her leaving me left a whole in my chest. A whole that would never heal unless I found her. For the first time in my life I truly understood the pain that Bella went through when I was the one that left her. She had always said that when I left her it felt as if a whole had been punched through her chest. That was exactly how I felt when she left and took half of my heart with her.
Over the years we had moved around as needed. We'd moved to Alaska, then New York, and now we were in my home town of Chicago. Everywhere I went I looked for her. I always disappointed when I didn't find her.
Loud rapid knocking on my door temporarily drew me from my thoughts. Alice was clearly nervous and desperately trying to hide something from me. Before I could answer her she entered my room with the force of a mini tornado. She tossed a book on my bed so fast you'd think it was a venomous snake instead. The book cover had a picture of a pair of arms holding an apple. It was called Twilight. Though why Alice was so scared was beyond me.
"Alice since when are you interested in-" I picked up the book and looked for the genre. "Fantasy books,"
"You need to read this book Edward. Today. Right now. This very second. I was at the mall when I passed by a Barnes and Noble bookstore. They were advertising this book in the window and when I saw what it was about-oh just trust me when I say you need to read this book right now! I bought copies for everyone in the family. They already have their copies and-"
"Wait a minute you interrupted Carlisle and Esme at work to give them a fantasy book?" Okay my sister has definitely lost her mind. Carlisle hated being interrupted at work unless it was something extremely important. Esme wouldn't appreciate having her class interrupted for something so ridiculous either. A few years ago Esme had decided to become an elementary school teacher. Now she really loved what she did even though we didn't need the money.
"This is extremely important. It could not wait until later. They promised to start reading whenever they got a break. You need to read this book right now because we're all going to have a serious family meeting later,"
"A serious meeting about a fantasy book? Really Alice?"
"It's not a fantasy-"
"It literally says it right on the back of the book. It's fantasy,"
"Oh my God Edward just read the book!" she stormed out of my room.
Oh Alice. Upset for a fantasy book. Yet I couldn't help but wonder why this book had upset her so much. Curiosity got the better of me and I picked up the book and turned the page to the first chapter. Once I had gotten a few pages into the book everything started to become clear.
I had to keep reading to find out much information this book had. I couldn't believe what I was reading. This book was about Bella. My Bella. Everything was scary accurate. My horror grew the more and more I read. This book was a perfect documentation of everything that happened after I met Bella. Even the conversations that we had were spot on. This book accurately depicted my family and I. We were all mentioned by name several times. The book revealed that we were vampires.
I finished reading the book approximately forty five minutes after I started thanks to vampire speed reading. No wonder Alice was so scared. I looked at the front of the book. Someone named R. Carlie was the author. Who was this person and how did he know so much about our live's?
I looked for a bio. The bio didn't reveal much other than that she was a 16 year old girl living in San Diego, California. But how did this girl know so much about my life? Oh God if the Volturi got wind of this book we will all be dead faster than we can say R.I.P. Alice was right we needed to figure out what we were going to about this immediately. We needed to find out who this girl was.
I flipped through the pages once again looking for more information. Then I came across something written that immediately caught my attention.
In loving Memory of my mother Isabella "Bella" whose story transcended worlds. I love you mom and miss you more than words can express. Until we meet again.
