Chapter 2

It was an hour later when Barry started to come around. The first thing he noticed was extreme pain to his stomach. It only took a few seconds before his stomach flipped and he was able to get himself up onto his knees before he threw up blood. His movement caught the attention of everyone in the station and the cops were all horrified to see Barry throwing up a great deal of blood.

Eddie whispered into Joe's side so Iris wouldn't hear him.

"That's clotted blood Joe. That's bad."

"And it's a lot." Joe said back with fear completely in his voice.

"It's only been an hour and a half. We need a plan he can't keep this up."

"We need one fast."

Barry finished throwing up blood after a moment and he sat back with his back against the wall trying to catch his breath. His whole body hurt and his stomach felt like it was on fire. He had his eyes closed, but he opened them when he heard Eiling's dark chuckle.

"Maybe we need to have the good doctor take a look at you. Wouldn't want you to die before I'm able to duplicate your DNA." Eiling snapped his fingers and a soldier headed upstairs to get the doctor.

Barry was going to comment, but he found himself without the strength to do it. So he just put his head back against the wall and tried to focus on his breathing. It was tight and Barry couldn't get a deep breath in no matter how hard he tried. Barry looked over at the clock and saw that it had only been an hour and a half since this whole mess started. He was seriously starting to doubt being able to survive the time needed. He heard footsteps coming down the stairs and Barry knew that it would be the doctor. Part of him was hopeful that the doctor would be able to fix him, but the other part of him knew that he couldn't be trusted. He wasn't Caitlin. He didn't care if he caused him pain or not. Caitlin always told him what she was going to do so he was prepared. She always told him if something was going to hurt so he wouldn't be caught off guard. She had told him that he was a hero, but Caitlin was his hero, because she always kept him alive. She always patched him up and saved his life when he was in a bad fight. It was because of her that he was even able to survive the lightning bolt to begin with. Barry knew that when this was over, if he got through this he would be letting Caitlin know just how much he appreciated everything she did for him.

The doctor came over to Barry and Barry was prepared for anything. He just wished he knew what the doctor was going to do.

"That's a lot of blood. A couple pints of it. Let's see what this wound is doing shall we?"

The doctor bent down and touched Barry's stomach. Barry did what he could to move away even though he couldn't get very far.

"Two of you come here and hold him down. I need him to stay still." The doctor said as he moved out of the way.

Two soldiers came over to Barry and the one grabbed his leg and pulled him down so he was lying flat on his back. Barry kicked out at the man. He may have had his hands cuffed behind him, but he wasn't going to stop fighting. His fighting only results in him being punched across the face and finally getting stomped onto his stomach that was still bleeding. Barry screamed at the pain and was still long enough for the one guy to hold him down by the legs and the other by his shoulders.

"Leave him alone dammit!" Iris screamed.

"I'm trying to help him. A stab wound this size to his stomach can be fatal if left untreated. You should be thanking me." The doctor said.

"Thanking you? It's you people that gave him it. You can't just treat people like science experiments." Iris said.

"When they are this unique you can. Imagine being able to cure deadly diseases, paralysis and cell death. All of that could come from the experiments on this subject. Their lives are far more important." The doctor said.

"He's not a subject he's a human being." Joe said in a deadly tone.

"Not anymore." The doctor said back. "Now hold him tight this going to hurt." The doctor said to the two soldiers.

Barry felt the grip on his shoulders tighten and it only caused pain to the one that was dislocated. Barry couldn't help, but watch as the doctor took his index finger and inserted it into the stab wound to feel around. Barry tried his best not to scream, but it was impossible. The Doctor added a second finger and moved them all around. Barry was squirming and trying to get the pain to stop, but the soldiers held him down. He could vaguely hear the screams from the cops beside him trapped behind the barrier, but his mind wasn't able to pick out what they were saying. All he could see was red and Barry was praying he would be able to pass out, but he wasn't able to. The pain was just too much and he wasn't able to pass out. After an agonizing ten minutes the doctor pulled his hand out and it was covered in blood. Barry tried to calm his breathing down as he was feeling very light headed. He felt the soldier's removing their hands from him, but Barry just didn't have the strength to try and fight them.

"I thought you said he heals fast?" The doctor said to Eiling as he stood up. He pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and started to wipe the blood off his hand as he stood up.

"Is he not healing?" Eiling asked not truly caring.

"Not as fast as you said he could. The burn is healed up pretty nicely, but that stab wound isn't. Plus from what I could feel of his organs they are torn and bleeding. He's not healing fast enough, which is a problem for when we run experiments on him."

"We can't take the cuffs off from him he'll be gone. So what do you suggest doctor?"

"I'm not saying to remove the cuffs he will heal, but it'll take a day or two at this rate. We need to correct this problem though when we are running experiments on him. A couple of days could be the difference between him living or dying. I need him alive for those experiments General."

"He'll live. Have Hartley look into something. Are you almost done up there?"

"Almost. I need another hour then I can transfer the data and we can go back to my lab."

"Hurry it up. I don't want to be here much longer."

"You got it."

The doctor headed back upstairs and Eiling came to stand over Barry. He put his foot on Barry's stomach and pushed down. Barry was in some much pain he couldn't even get enough breath to scream at the pain.

"You think this pain is bad. Just wait until we get you back to the other lab. I'm thinking it would be interesting to see if your body can grow more cells to replace limbs that are cut off. I'm really looking forward to that experiment." Eiling pushed down harder on Barry's stomach before he removed his foot and chuckled as he headed back over to the other soldiers and looked out the window. Iris pushed her way past Joe and Eddie and went over to the barrier. She bent down beside Barry as she spoke.

"Bar talk to me." Iris said with tears in her eyes.

Joe and Eddie went over to Iris and bent down beside her. Barry turned his head to look at them and he tried to speak.

"Hey." His voice was rough and filled with pain.

"You're a genius Barry. Tell me you got a plan for this barrier man." Eddie said.

"Cisco is the tech genius. I'm the microscope genius." Barry closed his eyes as he tried to get the pain under control.

"Barry do you have any idea, suggestions, anything that might work." Joe tried.

"I don't…give me a sec to think." Barry said with a shaky voice.

They knew Barry was in a lot of pain and it was causing his mind to not function properly. It was no secret among the station that Barry was a science prodigy. He was a genius and everyone knew it. Its why even after being late so many times to crime scenes the Captain still kept him around. It wasn't very often that you could find a crime scene investigator that can tell you what type of car was there from just looking at tire impressions. Barry could tell things without even having to run tests his mind just knew it. So the Captain kept him around and dealt with the lateness and horrible excuses because Barry was the best in Central City. After a moment he opened his eyes half way.

"It's electricity, but everything has a limit. There must be a way to overpower it. Short it out."

"So if we can figure out how to overpower it, it should destroy it." Joe said.

"Ya."

"Ok we'll figure something out. Just hang on son."

"Eddie, about what happened a few months ago." Barry started.

"Don't even worry about it Barry. I'm sure there was a really good reason behind it."

"It doesn't make it right. I'm sorry."

"I know you are. I forgave the Flash for it a long time ago. I forgave you Barry. You can tell me the story when you are all patched up. We'll go for drinks and you can tell me all of the highlights of your arrests." Eddie said with a smile.

"The first would be that alcohol doesn't work on me."

"Wait seriously?" Iris asked shocked.

"I know right? It sucks." Barry said with a smirk.

"That might actually be the worst thing I have ever heard. Seriously that is pretty horrible." Iris said with a smile.

She had known Barry for almost their whole life. She knew that he needed someone to just talk to him. To help him get his mind off from the pain, even for a few minutes. Iris was more than happy to be that person for Barry right now.

"It really is. I'll have to show you some time." Barry said with a small smirk.

"You better. I'm sure there has got to be some sciency stuff you could do to make your own liquor."

"Cait, tried, it lasted two minutes before it wore off."

"I'm with you guys that's just wrong. It's un-American really." Eddie said.

"Definitely." Barry said.

"We'll figure out a way to break this barrier." Joe said.

Barry went and pushed himself up so he was sitting up. His head swam and he closed his eyes to get the room to stop spinning.

"You shouldn't be moving right now Bar." Iris said with concern.

"I'll be fine. What do the cuffs look like?" Barry asked Eddie who was the closest to his back.

"They are metal of some kind. They're thick and solid. I can't see a place for a key or a way they connect." Eddie answered.

"They must be able to come apart though, they were able to get them on you." Joe said.

"Can you talk to your friends?" Eddie asked.

"Not without my mask on. I'll figure something out. I'll distract Eiling, you guys try and figure out how to overpower the barrier. My guess would be with more electricity than it can handle." Barry said.

"You should just rest and we will worry about the barrier." Joe said.

"If I can distract him then he won't notice what you guys are doing. I'll be fine."

"Be smart." Joe said.

"I always am."

"Hang in there Barry, we'll get out of this." Eddie said.

"Please be careful." Iris said.

Barry just gave a slight nod and he pushed himself back so he could be back against the wall still sitting. Joe, Iris and Eddie headed back over towards the Captain.

"How is he?" The Captain asked.

"He's in a lot of pain. Barry thinks we can overpower this barrier with electricity." Joe said.

"Won't that make it stronger?" The Captain asked.

"He doesn't think so. My guess is that too much electricity will short the barrier out." Joe said.

"Except we have nothing that would work for electricity." The Captain said.

"No, but there must be something we can use that conducts electricity." Eddie suggested.

"If we can find something that will conduct the electricity it could work to overpower it by using its own electricity against it." Joe said.

"Okay so what is a conductor besides water?" Iris asked.

"Other fluids, chemicals. All of that is upstairs though and we can't get to Barry's lab." Eddie said.

"Look around, get some others and read every bottle's warning labels for all I care. Let's figure this out before they take Barry away or he dies from those injuries." The Captain said.

They spilt up, Eddie took Iris with him while Joe went over to other officers to speak to them. Barry saw that they were all on the move and he knew they would be looking for a way to get the barrier down. Barry figured it was now or never so he started to move his wrists. He knew he wouldn't be able to break the cuffs, but he was hoping he might be able to get his hands free somehow.

"Eiling, what's your plan here? You can't honestly expect to get away with this. I mean you hold a police station hostage. You can't just walk away from that even if you are a General." Barry said.

"I can do what I want Barry. I'm powerful and so is my boss. He wants results and I am going to get it for him. No one can stop me. You might as well just accept your fate now."

"Well that's never gonna happen and you'll never get results. You can't duplicate my DNA."

"Maybe, maybe not, but we can clone your DNA and use that."

"Even if you could figure out how to clone me, you would still need me to control them and that will never happen. I'll kill myself before I ever let that happen."

"You won't ever have the chance. Give it up Mr. Allen your life changed the moment you got struck by that lightning and so did mine."

"You can't duplicate it Eiling. I'm a scientist I know what I'm talking about. I didn't get like this because I got struck by lightning. I was struck by lightning as a result of a particle accelerator exploding. There was dark matter within the accelerator that's how I'm able to move so fast. It's how the others happened. You can't duplicate that unless you plan on building a functioning particle accelerator and having it explode you're screwed."

"Hartley is a genius, more so than you. He'll figure it out."

"Do you really think you can trust him? He's playing you and when he's done he'll leave you with nothing. He won't work for anyone. All he wants is revenge. It wouldn't surprise me if he was up there screwing with the test results while the good doctor was down here."

"He knows his place."

"Oh he knows it. His place is taking you out. He doesn't care about your cause. He's actually probably against it. He just wants the attention and the revenge. He'll kill you if you get in his way of that. He's a psychopath. He only cares about his own goals and nothing else."

Barry was trying to get his hands free while he spoke. He knew he could get them free, but he also knew it was going to hurt a lot. The problem was once he had his hands free he didn't really know what he was going to do. He was hoping his speed would come back, but he didn't know if it would be instant or it would take a few minutes. All Barry knew was that he had to try or he could die here and that wasn't something that Barry wanted to do. Barry was okay if he died in a fight at least he was trying to survive. He wasn't going to die just sitting there tied up. Barry turned his wrists so they would cut against the rough metal of the cuffs. He needed the blood to make his hands and wrists wet so he could pull his hands through the cuffs more easily.

"You must be feeling better with all of this talking you are doing. I think it's time for another test then shall we? Men, go and get the items from the truck." Eiling said with a smirk.

"Sir, will you be alright alone?" One soldier asked.

"We'll be just fine isn't that right Barry?" Eiling said with a smile.

Barry was moving his hands into the right place. It was going to hurt, but this was his chance. If he could get the cuffs off he could fight Eiling one on one without having to worry about anyone jumping in. The soldiers got onto the elevator and once it was closed Barry took a deep breath and he took his chance. Barry clenched his teeth and pulled his right hand through the cuff. He could feel his right thumb dislocating and breaking at the same time, but he didn't let his mind linger on the pain. He just did the same thing to his left hand and he was free from the cuffs. What scared him was that he didn't feel his speed coming back yet, which meant that it was being delayed by how long he had the cuffs on. Or worse that the cuffs did some kind of damage to his body and it was now having to heal before he could use his speed again. Barry knew it didn't matter though he had to take his chance. Barry stood up and that caught Eiling's attention. Eiling's smirk fell when he noticed that Barry's hands were at his sides and not cuffed behind his back.

"You got guts boy, but it won't help you." Eiling said as he pulled out his gun and fired at Barry.

Barry was able to move out of the way, but he didn't have his speed to him. Eiling just chuckled at Barry.

"What's wrong you aren't moving too fast. Looks like Hartley was right about those cuffs. It'll take a day before your speed comes back and a week before it is back fully. A little added security in case you were able to get out of them, though I didn't think you had it in you to pull your hands out. I won't be needing this." Eiling said as he put his gun away.

He started to walk towards Barry and Barry got ready for the fight.

"You don't scare me Eiling." Barry said with strength to his voice.

"You are nothing more than just some little, weak nerd without all of your speed. You don't stand a chance against me Barry and you know it."

"I guess we'll see then."

Eiling charged at Barry and slammed into Barry's midsection taking Barry down to the ground. Barry did everything he could to block out the pain and started to punch Eiling trying to get him off from him. Eiling punched Barry across the face and torso. Barry knew he had to stay calm and level headed. He focused his efforts on getting Eiling off from him so he bucked his hips and turned his body at the same time to force Eiling off from him. Barry kicked out and threw punches at Eiling to get him away from him. It took some doing, but he was able to get Eiling knocked over so he was no longer on top of him. Barry tried to get away, but he wasn't able to get up in time. He felt the weight of Eiling on top of him and his front was slammed into the floor. Barry couldn't help the scream at the pain on top of him. Eiling punched the back of his head and went to grab his arms to put them behind his back again. Barry knew he couldn't let that happen so he threw his legs to the left to get himself turned around. Barry threw a punch and hit Eiling right on his jaw it was enough to shock Eiling that Barry was able to hit Eiling again before Eiling even realised it happening. Barry could hear everyone behind the barrier cheering him on, but he couldn't register the words. All he could focus on was the fight he was in and how long it was taking. Barry knew he wouldn't have long before the other soldiers came up and then he would be in trouble. Barry knew he needed to be quick so he reached down for any strength that he had left. Barry grabbed the front of Eiling's shirt and he pushed him back as he got up. Eiling grabbed onto Barry's suit that was still unzipped as he was being pushed back. Eiling's back hit the wall and the force caused his gun to fall to the floor. Barry punched Eiling across the face and Eiling still holding onto Barry's jacket moved out from the wall and slammed Barry into it. Barry smashed his head against the wall and it stunned him long enough for Eiling to punch Barry on his left side. Barry pushed off the wall and turned around pushing Eiling back. The movement caused Barry to hit the gun with his foot making it slide across the floor. Eiling punched Barry across the face and then to his stomach before Barry had the chance to even block the hits. Eiling didn't stop punching Barry until he was on the ground. Eiling stood over top of Barry and bent down to punch him across the face. Barry had his hands up to try and block, but his body was getting to be in too much pain. He had been not only fighting with two broken thumbs, but a dislocated shoulder as well. Barry put his hands up to try and block his head as his vision was swimming. Barry knew he needed to do something or he was going to get beaten to death. Barry used the last of his strength to punch Eiling then kick him on the stomach. Barry saw the gun and he didn't even think he just moved still on his side towards the gun. Barry grabbed it and he turned over onto his back. He saw Eiling coming back towards him and Barry didn't even think he just pulled the trigger and fired three bullets into Eiling's chest.

Barry couldn't hear anything, but the ringing in his ears. Barry laid there on his back with his shoulders off the ground holding the gun out. All he could see was the shock on Eiling's face as his chest began to get covered in blood. Eiling fell to his knees and then fell the rest of the way with his front flat onto the ground. Barry could feel his hand shaking and he felt like he couldn't catch his breath. He had just killed someone. He had just fired a gun. Barry didn't even know what to do, but he didn't get the chance to even think as the elevator opened. Barry didn't even notice it. He couldn't take his eyes off from Eiling's body as the blood started to pool around him. The next thing Barry knew was his body was hit by a blast of cold and he screamed. Barry let the gun drop as his body was hit by the extreme cold. The soldiers came out of the elevator to see that Eiling was dead on the ground with Barry holding the gun. They had gone down to the truck to get the make-shift cold gun. Hartley had designed it and it was just dry ice in a tank with a sprayer. It wouldn't kill Barry instantly, but it would give him frost bite and would slowly kill him if he wasn't treated soon after. They also had sledge hammers with them as well. Barry was hit with the ice and the sprayer covered his whole body. Barry tried to get away from the ice, but he just couldn't move fast enough. Barry was now on his side and he could feel his whole body freezing. It was getting to be hard to breathe and he couldn't get his body to move anymore. The soldier with the make-shift gun turned it off. Everyone behind the barrier couldn't even breathe. All they could do, all they had been able to do was stand there and watch as Barry fought Eiling, as he killed him. Now they had to watch as a solider sprayed dry ice all over Barry, who was now not moving. They could see the hint of blue in his skin and there was ice on his clothes and skin.

"Let's kill this little bastard." One soldier said.

"No we aren't going to kill him." Another soldier said.

"He killed the General." The first soldier said.

"And we are going to follow his orders and make sure we get results for our Commander." The second soldier said.

"So what are we going to do now?" Another soldier asked.

"We are going to teach this little freak a lesson while we wait for the Doc to get finished. Get him up on his feet." The second soldier ordered.

The one soldier without a sledge hammer went over to Barry and grabbed him by the arms and put them behind his back. He picked up Barry and forced him to stand up. Barry was barely conscious and could barely stand up.

"Listen to me. Eiling is dead you can take this chance and leave. You can just leave and get away from here without any problems. You don't need to do this. Just leave him alone." Joe said with fear to his voice.

Not for the first time since this had started Joe was afraid that he would watch Barry die and now he truly believed that it was going to happen. Joe knew that cold was what hurt Barry the most and now he was covered in it.

"We have orders to follow that doesn't stop when our General is dead. We also answer to someone else and he wants this freak just as much." The soldier who appeared to now be in charge said.

He took the sledge hammer that was in his hands and brought it down on Barry's kneecap shattering it. Barry screamed, but the pain was blocked out when the sledge hammer slammed into his stomach. The four of them took turns using their sledge hammers on Barry. By the end of it Barry was a mess of broken bones and blood on the floor. Joe felt like he couldn't breathe. All he could do was stand there and look at Barry, his son on the floor unmoving.

The flat line could be heard all throughout the lab. Everyone froze and just stared at each other. They could hear the solid beep that signaled no pulse.

"No, no, no this isn't happening." Cisco said as he raced over to the monitors to check and make sure they were working properly.

Caitlin took out her cell phone with a shaky hand and dialed Felicity's number.

"I know, we're two minutes out." Felicity said with fear and hurt to her voice.

"You have to hurry. He only has five minutes before his brain starts to die from lack of oxygen. You need to get Oliver to shock his heart with all of the voltage he can to get it started again. Barry's heart is used to electricity so it has to be fully charged." Caitlin said as she grabbed her coat.

"Got it."

"I'm coming in the van I'll be outside to work on him while we transport him back here. Hurry Felicity he doesn't have long."

"We'll get it done just get your ass here."

Caitlin hung up and turned her attention to Wells and Cisco.

"We need to go. Oliver is two minutes out. We need to get to the station so we can transport Barry back here. Cisco you need to get the barrier down then come back here." Caitlin said.

"I'll wait here for you and let you know when his vitals come back on." Dr. Wells said.

"Let's go." Caitlin said.

Cisco grabbed his jacket and ran out with Caitlin.

Oliver could hear Barry's heartbeat and breathing getting worse. He didn't know what was happening, but he knew that Barry was in pain and struggling to stay alive. When he heard the flat line Oliver felt his heart drop. Barry was just this annoying kid when he first met him and then he had saved his life. He could have told the police who he was, but he didn't. He kept his secret for no other reason than he was a good man and he wouldn't betray someone like that. He even stood up to him when most wouldn't have dared. Barry had a strength to him, one that Oliver could respect. When Barry had given him the mask that fit perfectly to his face Oliver was impressed and grateful. Barry didn't owe him anything and yet he had gone through the trouble of making this mask for him. When the news reports came all over the television reporting that the particle accelerator had exploded and people were killed and injured Oliver couldn't help, but wonder if Barry was alright. His question was answered the next day when it was reported that Barry had been struck by lightning and was still hanging on. Felicity had called to ask how Barry was doing and they found out he had been moved to S.T.A.R Labs as a life saving measure. When he had gotten the call that Barry was awake and he wanted to speak to him he didn't even hesitate. He told Barry where and when and Barry just simply agreed. Oliver was shocked when Barry told him about his mother and what he could do. Oliver didn't even question it, because he could see the truth and confusion in Barry's eyes. Oliver knew that Barry would be able to be a true hero one that people would be inspired by. He knew Barry just needed some encouraging and he would find his way. When he had come down to Central City he couldn't help, but go and check in on Barry to make sure he was doing alright. Teaming up and training Barry had felt good and Oliver was starting to see Barry as a little brother in a sense. He wanted to help keep Barry safe and protect him. Even more though, he wanted Barry to be proud of him. It touched him to hear that Barry had defended him to his mentor and his foster father. It made Oliver want to be better. Barry showed him that he still had humanity in him that he could still be Oliver Queen and not the Arrow.

As he drove the last couple of blocks all he could hear was Barry's heart not beating. All Oliver could think about was how this sweet, innocent and kind man was dying and he had died in pain. Oliver wasn't going to let this happen. When he got to Roy, Roy had been killed but he was able to bring him back. Oliver was determined to do the same with Barry. They had arrived and Oliver saw that there were soldiers all around the perimeter. Oliver found himself remembering the time that Barry had taken out the Russian mob guys within eight seconds and Oliver found himself wishing he could do the same. Roy had parked his car next to Oliver's bike and he got out. They both looked at each other and they made quick work.

Oliver went right and Roy went left. They took out the men around the perimeter and Felicity came over to them so they could all go into the station. They ran in and Felicity waited downstairs until Roy and Oliver took out the threats upstairs. Felicity was told to wait five minutes before she could come up. Oliver and Roy got into the elevator and had their bows at their ready so when the door opened they could just shoot. They both looked at each other as they reached the floor just before the door opened. The second the door started to open they were out of the elevator and shooting. There were only five soldiers inside so they were quickly taken out. Joe felt a strong relief at seeing Oliver and his friend. Joe didn't even care if the soldiers were dead or not. All he cared about was the fact that someone was there to save Barry. Barry would be okay as long as they got him to S.T.A.R Labs for Caitlin to heal him.

"Anymore?" Roy asked in his Arsenal voice.

"Two upstairs." Joe answered.

"Go." Oliver said as he ran over to Barry.

Roy took a look at Barry as he ran up the stairs in search of the other two. Oliver couldn't believe how horrible Barry looked. He was black and blue, his skin was freezing and had ice on it. Hip lips were blue, he was covered in blood and had easily thirty broken bones. It also looked like he had a major skull fracture. Oliver put his bow down and he carefully rolled Barry over from his side onto his back. As Barry's shirt was unzipped Oliver was able to see the mass amount of blood coming from Barry's stomach. Oliver didn't even know where someone would start to heal Barry, but right now he needed him to have a pulse. Oliver checked his neck for a pulse and he didn't find one. The elevator door opened and Felicity saw Barry on the ground.

"Oh my God." Felicity said as she ran over to them.

Oliver started to do chest compressions as he spoke.

"He doesn't have a pulse. Arsenal went upstairs to handle two soldiers. We need a defibrillator."

"There's one in his lab." Joe said.

"I'll go." Felicity said.

"Be careful it might not be safe." Oliver said.

"Just keep doing CPR I'll be fine." Felicity said as she got up and ran up the stairs.

Oliver continued to give Barry CPR.

"Come on Barry don't give up now. Come on."

Oliver gave Barry mouth to mouth before he continued with chest compressions. He continued that for the next two minutes while he waited for Felicity to come back down. Felicity came running down the stairs with Roy and the defibrillator in his hands. They went over to Oliver and Barry and Felicity turned on the machine and picked up the stick ons and put them on Barry's chest on the right place.

"We need to charge it all the way. Caitlin said that Barry's heart was used to electricity and it needs to be a high charge." Felicity said.

"There was only one person upstairs using the computer." Roy said.

"Was it Hartley?" Joe asked.

"No it was a soldier." Roy answered.

"We'll find him. How far out are they?" Oliver said before he went to give Barry mouth to mouth again.

"I don't know. Probably ten minutes. We need to get his pulse back." Felicity said.

The machine beeped signally it was up to charge.

"Okay clear." Felicity said to let Oliver move his hands off from Barry before she hit the shock button. Barry's body took the charge as his chest lifted up slightly. There was still no heartbeat.

"I'm doing it again." Felicity said before she pushed the button again and still nothing. She did it twice more before they were finally able to get a heartbeat back. Felicity thought she was going to cry when she saw the beeps.

Barry's breathing was laboured and heavy though. Oliver knew that something was horribly wrong with Barry. Barry opened his left eye as his right eye was swollen. He looked over at saw a blurry Oliver kneeing next to him. Barry moved his left hand and lightly tapped it against his chest. Barry's breathing was getting worse and Oliver knew something was wrong.

"I know your breathing is laboured. Do you have a deflated lung?" Oliver asked calmly. He didn't want to show Barry just how freaked out he was at how bad Barry was beaten.

Barry shook his head.

"He has ice on his skin." Roy said.

"Barry, are your lungs freezing?" Felicity asked in a hurry.

Barry shook his head no. Barry moved his hand down to the blood on his stomach. He turned it to show Oliver the blood and then went back to pointing at his chest.

"You have blood in your lungs?" Oliver asked.

Barry gave a weak nod.

"He's drowning in his own blood. How do we fix that?" Oliver asked.

"I have no idea." Felicity said with panic as she pulled out her cell phone and called Caitlin.

"Did you get there?" Caitlin asked as she picked up the phone.

"We got his pulse back, but his lungs are filling up with blood what do we do?" Felicity asked with panic.

"Is he awake?"

"Yes."

"Okay listen to me, this is going to hurt him, but you can't stop. You need to give him chest compressions like you would to someone who drowned. You need to do it until it comes up and he spits it out."

"You need to give him chest compressions. It'll push the blood out like water from a drowning victim." Felicity told Oliver.

"Okay Barry this is going to hurt, but I need you to just hang on. Your team is on their way." Oliver said as he placed his hands on Barry's chest and began chest compressions.

Barry tried to ignore the fire that was burning through his chest as Oliver continued to push down on it. After ten compressions Barry felt the blood come up. He started to choke on it and Oliver carefully rolled him over so he was half on his left side. Barry coughed up the blood and they were all horrified at the amount of blood there was. Once Barry was done Oliver helped to get him back onto his back. Barry's breathing was better, but it was far from perfect. His stab wound was also heavily bleeding and Oliver knew he needed to stop it.

"Barry I need to try and slow this bleeding down. This is going to hurt I'm sorry." Oliver said.

"Everything hurts." Barry said with a shaky voice.

"I know. I know, but it won't be much longer and your team will be here. We'll get you patched up. I just need you to hang on a little longer." Oliver said gently.

He placed both hands on Barry's stab wound and applied pressure. Barry screamed out and Oliver knew Barry was way past his limit.

"It's okay Barry. It's okay." Felicity said as she gently placed her hand on Barry's right hand.

The pain was too much for Barry though and he couldn't stop squirming as his body tried to get away from the pain.

"Barry look at me." Oliver said gently.

Barry looked at Oliver with his one good eye and all Oliver could see was pain on every level.

"I know it hurts. I know you just wish you could pass out right now, but your body won't let you. It's over though. Now your body can heal. We will get through this together. Do you hear me? We are in this together. Just keep your eyes on me. It'll be okay."

Barry took a shaky breath and he kept his eyes on Oliver. Oliver kept telling him that it was okay, that he was safe and that it was over. After the longest ten minutes of their lives the elevator doors opened. Roy already had his bow set and pointing at the door. When Cisco put his hands up as the door opened and spoke.

"Whoa it's just me." Cisco said clearly not expecting Roy to be right there and at the ready.

Roy lowered his bow as he spoke. "Sorry."

"It's all good." Cisco said as he ran over to Barry. "Holy shit. Um Caitlin is out there in the van ready for you. You're gonna need a driver. I'm gonna stay here and get them free from the barrier." Cisco said unable to take his eyes off from Barry who was barely conscious now.

"Felicity you drive I'll stay with Barry in the back." Oliver said.

"I can drive." Roy said.

"No you stay here and keep them safe in case Hartley comes back. You can meet us there." Oliver said.

Roy didn't argue just gave a nod and Oliver turned his attention to Barry.

"Barry listen to me. I need you to stay with me. We need to leave and get you in the van. Caitlin is there waiting for you. I need you to hang on for five minutes."

Barry tried to open his left eye all of the way, but he couldn't do it. His body was giving in to the call of death and he was just in too much pain to find the strength to push through.

"Barry stay with me. You don't get to die today. You have too much to live for Barry. I know you are tired and in unbearable pain, but you have to push through. The worst is over and the pain will start to lessen. You're gonna get up with me and we are leaving here and getting you to S.T.A.R. Labs. Come on Barry." Oliver said.

"Barry you can do this come on." Iris said.

"You never give up. Get up son." Joe said.

Barry knew he couldn't give in no matter how much he truly wanted to in this moment. He wasn't about to leave Joe and Iris behind. Barry moved his right arm over to Oliver. Oliver put Barry's left arm over his shoulder and wrapped his other around Barry's chest. Together they were able to get Barry up, but he was barely able to stand. Oliver used his own weight to hold Barry up and with the help of Felicity they were able to get Barry moving to the elevator. Barry was in so much pain that once they were in the elevator he almost collapsed if it hadn't been for Oliver catching him. Oliver curled Barry up against his chest to hold onto him better and Barry just put his head against Oliver's shoulder. It took a few minutes but they were able to walk out and over to the van where Caitlin was waiting outside with its' back doors open.

"Oh my God. Get him into the back and I need one of you to drive and hurry." Caitlin said.

Felicity ran to the driver side and got in while Caitlin and Oliver got Barry onto the stretcher that was in the van. Once Barry was on the stretcher Oliver and Caitlin began to work on Barry while Felicity hit the gas and took off for S.T.A.R. Labs.

"I need you to keep pressure on that stab wound." Caitlin said to Oliver.

Oliver grabbed a white cloth and pressed it against Barry's stomach. Barry let out a scream at the added pain.

"Barry I know it hurts, but I just need you to hang on for me. We're gonna get you to S.T.A.R. Labs and I'll be able to fix you up. I just need you to hang on for me." Caitlin said as she started to take Barry's vitals.

Barry was starting to shake, but only at a normal speed. Caitlin was worried that whatever cuffs were on him had slowed his speed down plus the added ice that had hit him. Caitlin knew she needed to get to back to the lab and soon before it was too late to save him.

"How do we get this down?" The Captain asked.

"Ah ok. It's electricity based and normally you would be able to overpower it with electricity, but Hartley would have accounted for that. If we can put enough force behind it you should be able to take the barrier down." Cisco said.

"How do we do that?" Joe asked.

"If you all shoot at the same area on the barrier it should weaken it and puncture a hole through it. Once there is a whole then the whole thing should fall apart." Cisco said.

"Are you sure?" The Captain asked.

"Ya I'm sure." Cisco said.

"Any particular place?" Joe asked as he pulled out his gun.

"Corners are the weakest." Cisco answered.

"Everyone shoot towards the top right corner. That way if any bullets get through it won't hurt anyone." The Captain said.

Everyone pulled out their guns and took aim at the top right hand corner. It was the safest place for them to aim because if the bullets went through the barrier they would go into the cement wall and not out into the street or into another building nearby. They fired off their shots and after a good twenty bullets the barrier broke and collapsed in front of them. Once the barrier was down Joe was the first to move. He walked quickly to the elevator with Iris and Eddie right behind him.

"Cisco, grab those cuffs." Joe said as they loaded onto the elevator.

Cisco ran over and grabbed the cuffs and ran over to the elevator with Roy right with him.

"Keep me updated." The Captain said as the elevators doors closed.

"I will!" Joe called out just as the elevators doors closed.

The minute it took for the elevator to go down to the first level felt like years. They just wanted to get to S.T.A,R. Labs so they could see Barry for themselves and make sure that Caitlin was going to be able to repair the damage that was done to him. It was a tall order, but they had faith in Caitlin for she was a genius herself in her own field and she had saved Barry's life before. They were hoping she would be able to do it again and that Barry would be able to hold on long enough to give Caitlin the chance. Once the elevator was at the ground level they all ran out of the building and over to their cars. Joe, Eddie and Iris got into Joe's squad car and Roy and Cisco got into Roy's car. Joe turned on the lights and sirens and took off as fast as he could with Roy right behind him. Joe had just spent the last few hours standing by helplessly as his son was tortured and almost killed. He had once again had to standby and be helpless in not being able to save the boy that had become his own son. He wasn't going to be leaving Barry alone to deal with this himself. He was going to be there the whole way with him to get him through it. All he could do now though was pray that his son would make it.
