It was September 5th Lexie's thirty-first birthday. She got up and got the kids up for school. After they all got ready they all in the kitchen.

"What do you guys want for breakfast?" Lexie asked.

"We're making you breakfast mommy." Max said.

"You are?"

"Yeah it's your birthday." Marybeth said. "What kind of cereal do you want?"

"Um, Rice Chex."

"I'll get the cereal." Max said looking at Marybeth. "You get the presents."

"Presents?"

"Yeah." "When it's our birthday you give us presents."

Marybeth came back a few seconds later with two cards made out of construction paper. "Happy birthday mommy." Marybeth said. "We made these ourselves."

"I see that." Lexie said. "They're beautiful I love them." "Both of you come here." She hugged and kissed them both. "Thank you both very much." "I love you."

Lexie had just gotten to work and turned on the lights in her office. Her cell phone rang.

"Hello?" She said.

"Happy birthday." Kim said.

"Thank you." "You should've seen what the kids did." "They made me a cereal breakfast and gave me construction paper birthday cards." "It was so cute."

"Aw." "Do you have plans tonight?"

"No."

"So you and your boyfriend don't have any plans?"

She laughed. "Don't start."

"He's not gonna give you something long and hard?" She said smiling.

She laughed hard. "Kim." "There's no boyfriend to give that to me." "I have to go."

"Ok bye."

"Bye."

It was Lexie's lunch hour. She was sitting behind her desk. Katie came in holding a bouquet of pink tulips and a gift box that had a note attached to it.

"Katie you shouldn't have." Lexie said.

"I didn't." "This just came for you." She put them on the desk. "Lexie, who's John?"

"What?"

"Well I couldn't help but notice he signed the note."

"Get back to work." She said smiling. Katie left. Lexie unpinned the note from the gift it read.

Happy birthday Lexie. I hope you like the flowers and the gift. – John

She smiled. She took the lid off the gift. It was a weekend pass to a very high end New York spa that she could use whenever she wanted.

Later that night after she put the kids to bed Lexie was taking a bubble bath and drinking a glass of wine. Her cell phone rang.

"Hello?" She said.

"Happy birthday baby." John said.

"Thank you."

"Did you like your presents?"

"I loved them."

"Good."

"The kids made me cards."

"Aw, that's sweet." "What are you doing?"

"Taking a bubble bath and having some wine."

"I wish I could be there with you." "Me to." "I miss you."

"I miss you to." "I'm sorry I couldn't be there for your birthday."

"John it's ok." "Just this phone call means a lot."

"I know but I feel bad."

"Don't."

Did you have a good day?"

"Yes I did."

"Good."

"I'm gonna get off here and get ready for bed."

"Alright." "I- There was a long pause.

"What?"

"I'll talk to you later."

"Ok bye."

"Bye."
