Dick, Jason, Wally, and Roy finally get to go on their hunting/safari trip.
Chapter 63: Safari So Goodi
Jason's POV
I grabbed onto Dick's hand as our plane descended. Not that I was scared or anything, but just in case.
"Jason, relax. You can open your eyes now. We've landed."
I opened my eyes slowly. And immediately let go of his hand when I noticed Roy and Wally silently laughing at me. Assholes. We were in Africa for a safari. And at some point, Roy and I planned on going hunting. Bruce had finally agreed to let us go.
Grabbing our luggage, we climbed aboard the rental Jeep that was going to take us to our hotel. After checking in, we walked up to our two bedroom suite. Wally and Roy walked into the room with twin beds. Dick and I freaked out when we saw bunk beds in our room. I think our reservations got mixed up… oh well, better make the best of it.
"I call top bunk!" I yelled racing towards the bed.
"No way! I always get the top!" he yelled before grabbing me around the waist and we fell to the floor.
"No! You always get the top! Why can't you ever let me have it!" I yelled back.
I suddenly found myself pinned under Dick. "Because I'm older, so I get the top." He chided.
I flipped him underneath me. "Yeah, well I'm younger and stronger and bigger."
"You mean fatter, baby brother." he taunted before twisting out from underneath me and pinning me to the ground.
"Its muscle! Muscle! And I'm taller, so ha!" I shouted, kicking him off me and launching myself towards him; only to have Dick roll out of the way as I fell face first into the carpet. Soon my arms were twisted behind my back and Dick's weight pinned me to the floor.
"Yeah, well I'm smarter and sexier." He declared right into my ear.
"You're both gorgeous… can we go now?" Roy snapped, appearing at our doorway as we looked up.

Jason's POV
The four of us drove to the location of our jungle safari cruise. While Wally went with Dick to pay, Roy and I were going to have a nice little smoke.
I looked down to see some native kid pulling on my jacket.
"Jy is in n groot gevaar! Moet nie gaan nie!"
"Um…" I began; my Swahili is a little rusty.
"He's speaking Afrikaans. You are in grave danger. Do not go." Roy translated, obviously confirming the fact that I never really cared for foreign language.
"Roy, Jason. Hurry up! We're about to go!" Wally called over to us as we turned to look at him.
"Coming." Roy answered before we both turned back to find the kid gone.
"Dude that was seriously screwed up… Do you think we should tell them?" Roy asked.
"No way! You know how freaked out Dick gets if he thinks I'm in trouble. We pretend this never happened."

Dick's POV
This is going to be awesome… just as long as Jason doesn't fall off the boat again…
The four of us climbed onto our tiny steamer and waited for our adventure to begin. Wally and I rapidly began taking pictures, while Roy and Jason completely ignored the beauty and nature around us, in order to slap at mosquitoes and complain about the heat. I rolled my eyes. They did pick this trip.
"You two might be cooler if you'd worn khakis like Dick and I did, instead of jeans." Wally mocked.
"Nothing touches my ass, unless its jeans, boxers, a woman, or occasionally a suit." Roy replied and was seconded by Jason as I walked over to our captain.
"Hello." He greeted.
"Hi, do you know when we're supposed to come across any animals?" I asked. I was extremely anxious to see an elephant in its natural habitat.
"We should have seen some already, but lately the animals have been… disappearing? Strange things have been going on."
"What kind of strange things?" I asked.
"Well, I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but the last river cruise boat disappeared. Its passengers were never seen again."
"That's comforting."

Two hours later and we haven't seen a single animal. So far, the trip had been a little disappointing. But, I really want to find out about what happened to the last group of tourists. And I wanted to find out about the animals.
"Hold on!" the captain screamed.
I turned to find rapids dead ahead. Oh my God!

Jason's POV
I coughed up the water in my lungs as I crawled onto the stretch of land. I glanced up at the waterfall that our boat had gone over. Why does shit like this keep happening to us? How are we still alive?
"Jay, you okay?" Dick asked, helping me up.
"Fine." I replied as Wally and Roy and our captain approached us.
"What do we do now?" Wally asked.
"We follow the river. There should be a station about twelve miles from here." The captain replied.
"Why did you go through freaking rapids?" Roy yelled as the captain hung his head.
"I lost my map and I thought I could go on by memory." The native replied.
"Okay. It's only twelve miles. Let's start walking." Dick ordered, taking control of the situation.
Oh goody, a twelve mile hike through the African jungle with dangerous animals, plants, bugs, savages, and heat… kill me now.

"Oh my God." Dick whispered as the horrible sight and stench came into view.
About seventeen dead elephants lay sprawled out on the ground. Their tusks had been removed. Poachers. Bastards wanted ivory.
"Dick, you okay?" I asked, coming to stand beside my sensitive animal loving brother.
"Why do people do this?" he whispered.
"Cause they're assholes." Roy replied, shaking his head.
"Um guys, we need to get out of here as fast as possible. We're dead if those poachers come back." Wally added as we agreed.

Dick's POV
I cannot believe someone would just go and kill all of those poor elephants for ivory! Elephants are endangered for a reason!
My anger kept steaming as we continued on our journey through the jungle. Poor elephants.
As we approached a clearing, I could hear voices. Peering out from behind the thick shrubbery, we could see a vast number of natives screaming at each other in their native language, with guns slung over their shoulders.
This is not good.
Jason's POV
Shit. We would be the ones to find the freaking poachers.
"Jason, did you bring the sniper rifle?" Roy whispered into my ear.
"It's in the hotel. What about your hunting bow?"
"Hotel." he grimaced.
"Great." I added as Dick regained our group's attention.
"We need to stop them." Dick urged.
"Dick, they have guns. We don't." I sarcastically replied.
"We can't let them hurt other animals!" he hissed.
"How far are we from the station?" Wally asked.
"About a mile." Our captain replied.
"Do you think you could make it to the station and send help?" Dick asked as the captain nodded.
"But, what about you four?" the captain asked.
"I wouldn't worry about us." Roy replied, smirking.

"Okay, there are nine of them and four of us. All are armed and will kill us if they get the chance. So, we're going to play a little game with them." Dick began before giving us our instructions.
Minutes later, we were ready to go. Time for the hunters to become the hunted. Looks like I get my hunting trip after all.

Dick's POV
I watched carefully as one of the poachers made his way over to the river. The man bent down and dipped his hand into the water as Jason's hand shot up and encased the poacher's wrist before dragging the man into the water. The victim let out a fearful scream before being dragged under by Jason. Hopefully Jay won't drown him… One down, eight to go.
Soon the other poachers ran to the source of the cry as they looked for their fellow hunter. They muttered curses at the river, most likely believing a crocodile had eaten their friend. As they peered down at the water, Roy dropped down behind the man standing in the back. He silently approached the poacher before knocking him unconscious and dragging him into the brush. Two down, seven to go.
As the animal murders slowly disbanded from the river, they took in account of their remaining members, just as Wally zoomed by and grabbed one of them. Three down, six to go.
The poachers were beginning to panic as they realized three of them were missing. I dropped down in the middle of their circle for a fraction of a second before Wally grabbed me and ran us back to where Roy and Jay were.
We watched as the tribe went berserk. They were cursing and screaming about demons. We waited for them to regain control before launching another attack.
I watched as Roy threw a knife that landed inches away from one man's head before leaping out of the brush and tackling the poacher. Four down, five to go. After knocking him unconscious, I looked up and saw that three more had been taken out. Six down, three to go.
By now, the natives were terrified as they began shooting at shadows. Soon, there was only one left. This one's mine.
Cautiously, I crept towards him. I froze as a twig snapped beneath my foot, just as he fired his weapon in my direction.

Jason's POV
I climbed onto the top bunk. I'm just glad that we're going home tomorrow and that Dick was okay. He had been shot in the arm. But, it was only a flesh wound. And now the poachers were in the local jail, so everything's okay. I closed my eyes and waited for sleep to overtake me…
Oh my God! Dick! You and your freaking snoring! I swear he has a part-time job as a lumberjack. It was never this bad when we were younger, but he normally waited for me to fall asleep, because I guess I felt safer or whatever.
Trying to block out his snores, I rolled over and pulled my pillow over my face. Make it stop! I quickly froze as I thought I heard a gunshot. Dickie? I peered out over the side of the bunk and relaxed slightly when I saw Dick laying sprawled out and snoring.
I lay back down and sighed deeply. I jumped when I heard another shot. Images of my brother being skinned and mounted on a wall filled my vision. The sound of tapping on the window soon followed.
A giant five fingered monster was trying to break in!
Dick's POV
I was jolted awake by the sudden impact of 220 pounds of "little" brother coming into contact with my stomach as he crawled over me to get next to the wall. The mattress creaked angrily. There goes my romantic dream about Barbara.
"Move your ass over." Jason whispered harshly as I scooted over slightly.
"What's going on? What's wrong? Why are you whispering?" I asked, drowsily.
"Shut up, idiot! It'll hear you." He hissed and pointed towards the window.
I rolled my eyes when I looked up and saw a tree branch scraping against the window. "Jay, it's just a tree. Get back in your own bunk."
Yet he only ignored me and snuggled up against me, almost knocking me off the bed.
"Stop hogging the covers." He demanded before pulling my blanket off me.
"Jason, stop! It's my blanket!" I yelled before snatching my blanket back.
He whimpered and I reluctantly gave him a share of the blanket, regretting it immediately as he moved closer and curled up against me, causing his icy foot to come into contact with my leg.
"Oh my God! Jason! You're freezing! Go put some socks on!"
"Dude, just be lucky I'm wearing boxers and a T-shirt." He said as our mattress groaned in protest as Jason moved again.
"Jay, if you break the bed-" I began before he laid his head into the crook of my neck, causing my sentence to be cut off by his hair coming into contact with my mouth.
I reached up and smoothed his hair out of my mouth before sighing and brushing his hair back and wrapping my free arm around him. He smiled, knowing that he had won.
"Aren't you a little too old to be sleeping with me?"
"Dick, shut up. I'm trying to sleep here."
"Whatever… Night, Little Wing. I love you."
"Love you too, Big Bird." he muttered into my neck. "And you'd better not snore like a freaking lumberjack before I fall asleep!"
