"Can you just say it already…" she mumbled under the oxygen mask at Mike who standing in the corner staring at her a few minutes after Swain left to call the Doc and attend to the bridge
"I have nothing to say" he shrugged
"Bullshit…" she snapped back as she began coughing again he quickly moved towards her placing a hand on her arm as she continued to cough Mike moved the mask slightly as he pulled a tissue from his pocket for her to spit into
"Kate…" he whispered as he moved the tissue back he moved the mask back over her face as he looked down at the blood covered tissue his eyes connected with hers
"I'm fine…" she mumbled knowing what he was going to say
"You're coughing up blood, that is not fine" he sighed as he brushed a free thumb across her cheek before he moved back placing the tissue in the bin as he moved to wash his hands.
"How's the X?" Bomber asked as Swain entered the galley
"She's coughing up blood Bomber, and her chest it sounds like there some form of congestion in there I don't…"
"Where is she now?"
"In the wardroom on some oxygen, I called the quack from the comsend he…"
"What?" she asked concerned as he rested against the bench
"He thinks Chemical pneumonia" he muttered
"That… Swain that can kill people!" she replied nervously
"I know!" he sighed heavily
"I know…" he repeated softer
"So what did he suggest?" she asked moving to stand next to him
"We have to get her back to shore into a hospital for a chest x-ray so they can figure out what it is"
"Have you told the X?" she said nervously
"Bomb, she refused the first chest x-ray what's to say she won't refuse this one"
"Well maybe if she knows how potentially dangerous it is"
"You know how stubborn Kate is" he sighed with a slight grin
"Yeah" she smirked nudging his arm as they heard a loud thud
"What was that?" Swain said looking at her confused,
"SWAIN!" Mike's voice yelled through the ship as Swain and Bomber quickly moved out the galley and ran down the corridor towards the wardroom pushing the door aside Mike was laying on the floor supporting Kate's head as her whole body physically shaking.
"She's having a seizure, lay her on her side to clear her airways" he replied quickly moving next to Kate as Mike rolled her on her left side
"X, X can you hear me?" Bomber said as she knelt next to Kate's head checking her pulse Swaine held her body down in hopes she wouldn't hurt herself
"Kate…" Mike whispered as he ran a hand through her hair as the shaking started to slow down
"Get her on the bed" Swaine replied as he moved to pick her up
"No!" Mike yelled as he pushed Swain's arm back
"I'll do it…" he said hopeful as Swain nodded Mike picked her up bridal style carefully placing her on the wardroom bed
"Bomber check her blood pressure it could be the cause of her seizure" Swain replied as Bomber moved past him Mike stood next to her head as he continued to run a hand through her hair
"Swain…" Mike muttered as he looked at Kate's pale face the oxygen mask long gone having been pulled off by Kate herself before she fell to the floor
"Bomber blood pressure?" Swain asked not hearing Mike
"Way to high Swain"
"SWAIN!" Mike yelled to get his attention
"What?"
"She's not breathing"
"What?" he asked again moving towards her as he checked her neck
"She's not breathing"
"What happened?"
"I don't know she… she just stopped" Mike replied sadly
"Bomber do breathing while I do compressions" Swain answered as Bomber slightly pushed Mike out of the way
"What can I do?" Mike asked as Swain moved placing his hands over Kate's chest as he started compressions
"Get out of here Sir we've got it handled"
"Swain…"
"Come on! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 anything?" he asked as Bomber did mouth to mouth moving back she shook her head as Swain continued with more compressions
"No pulse" Bomber answered as Mike stood back brushing his hands through his hair
"Oh God!" he muttered
"Come on Kate!"
"Still no Pulse Swain".
It was like an out of body experience…
She could see her friends doing compressions on her pale non-moving form as she turned to look at Mike who was running his hand through his hair in a form of comfort trying to stop himself from crumbling right there in front of his crew, a bright light was taking up place where the door was
'I love you Mike' she muttered moving past him as she looked back at her body
"COME ON! 1, 2, 3, 4" Swain yelled as she placed a hand on her chest she could feel the pain of his hands pushing into it trying to jumpstart her heart,
"KATE!!" Mike yelled.
Moving closer to the light she stopped as a figure approached her 'ET?' she whispered
'It's not your time Kate but it will be soon' he replied
'I don't understand…'
"I'VE GOT A PULSE! I've got a pulse!" Bomber yelled as Kate was pulled back towards her body
'Not your time Kate' ET whispered as she opened her eyes with a huge gasp she jumped forward
"No wait!" she yelled as Mike quickly moved towards her wrapping her in a hug
"Thank god…" Swain sighed as he moved back watching as Kate wrapped her own arms around Mike's form he motioned for Bomber to let them have some time alone
"I'll be back in a few minutes to check on you" he nodded as he watched Kate close her eyes hugging Mike tighter.
"Don't you ever do that to me again" Mike sighed as he continued to hug Kate
"You squishing me" she grinned against his neck
"Sorry…" he answered softly moving back as he looked into her eyes he brushed his hand across her cheek she looked at him sadly
"Somethings… Something is wrong with me isn't it?" she asked sadly
"Kate…"
"I died Mike, I died right here on this bed as I saw you I saw…"
"What?" he asked as Swain moved back into the room he quickly dropped his hand from her cheek as he moved back
"I want to get you back to Cairns ASAP" Swain answered moving next to Kate as he set up the blood pressure machine
"What about Patrol?" she asked softly
"X… You just died right in front of us, I'm not taking any chances I've called a Medivac it'll be here in 20 minutes to take you to hospital Commander White is giving us permission to come back early" he nodded as he checked her blood pressure
"I need to do my job" she sighed
"Kate" Mike answered giving her a stern look as she rolled her eyes
"I'm not going to hospital"
"I'm afraid it's mandatory, you need a chest x-ray and I've ordered a CT scan"
"A CT scan, for what?" Mike asked nervously
"She has no history of seizures it's best to rule out any reason and the high blood pressure can cause a risk to quite a lot of things…" he sighed jotting down her blood pressure in his notepad
"I don't…"
"It's not a request" Swaine replied knowing what she was going to say she looked at Mike before avoiding his saddening stare.
"Mike how's Lieutenant McGregor?" Maxine asked as he stood in her office 8 hours later
"Complaining about the hospital food last time I spoke to her" he grinned slightly
"And any news as to what has happened?"
"Chemical pneumonia, they've put her on medication and an oxygen machine in the hopes of getting her breathing back to normal and the seizure was brought on by high blood pressure" he replied moving to sit in front of her
"Sounds like she's going through the wars"
"Something like that…"
"So what can I do for you?"
"I was hoping Hammersley could have some time off just until my XO is recuperated and can attend to her normal duties" he asked hopeful
"Um sure, I can see what I can do how long are you needing off?"
"2 weeks, it's just Ka… Lieutenant McGregor is to stay is hospital for a week and then needs to be observed for another just until she can come back" he assured her
"Although I'm not too sure how the BRASS is going to handle having their best team in port for 2 weeks I'm sure we can work something out" she nodded as she began jotting down in her notepad
"Thanks Maxine" he smiled as she placed her pen down
"So apart from everything else how are you Mike?" she asked as he shifted slightly
"I'm good, can't complain" he shrugged
"Well it's good to see you Mike"
"I hear you were getting cold feet in Canberra requested the transfer yourself?" he asked as they moved to stand
"Needed a change for me and Ryan, and Canberra was a little old" she shrugged as they moved out of her office in to the main area
"How old is my Godson now?" he grinned
"Nearly 18, listen why don't you come round for dinner I'm sure Ryan would love to see you" she smiled as they stopped in front of the elevators
"Sorry Max I've already got previous commitments" he smiled sadly
"Sure, give Lieutenant McGregor my best" she nodded as he stepped into the elevator
"Will do" he nodded as the doors closed.
Standing next to her bed he looked down at her sleeping form a nose cannula in to help her get enough oxygen and a IV pumping antibiotics in her arm, smiling softly he reached a hand across brushing her blonde hair out of her face as her eyes started to slowly flutter open to be met with his blue emotional filled ones
"Hey…" she whispered as he moved down placing a kiss on forehead as she brushed a hand across his chest before he moved back to sit down in the small chair she reached a hand over as he interlocked his with it
"How you feeling?" he asked softly brushing his free hand through her hair
"Like death" she grinned slightly
"That's not even funny" he shook his head as she gave him a look of apology
"Did you bring me a present?" she asked with a grin
"A present?"
"You promised me a present if I didn't complain about having to stay in here for a week"
"A present right, I did get you a little something" he smirked as he reached down next to his feet before pulling up a small box and placing it in her free hand
"It's a bit small to be chocolates" she grinned as he playfully rolled his eyes
"Open it" he smiled as she slowly opened the box to reveal a silver chain necklace with the letter 'M' dangling off the end with an blue topaz stone in it the colour of his eyes
"Mike…" she whispered as she ran her finger over it before pulling it out of the box
"Blue topaz symbolizes honesty, clarity of feelings, and deep emotional attachment" he smiled as he moved to stand he took the necklace from her as she shifted her head forward he placed it around her neck
"It's beautiful" she answered as it dropped against her neck he moved back to look at her brushing a hand against her cheek
"I love you Kate, I don't want to lose you again" he whispered as she reached up a hand and placed it against his cheek running her thumb across his bottom lip
"I love you too" she smiled with tears in her eyes as he moved forward placing a soft kiss against her lips
"Did you bring me chocolate?" she grinned against his lips before he moved back reaching down near his feet again as he picked up a box
"Milk not Dark" he laughed holding them out for her to take as he held them back slightly he leant in their faces inches apart
"You're such a tease" she sighed with a grin
"I just want you're honest opinion on which gift you like best?" he smirked looking down at her necklace as he got a quick glimpse down her gown he wiggled his eyebrows at her
"The best gift I've been given is…"
"Yes?"
"Just having you here with me" she smiled softly
"And just the answer I was expecting" his smile matched hers as he placed the chocolates in her lap
"Hmm" she shrugged as she brushed her nose against his he moved forward the last few inches for a kiss he smiled before their lips met
"Will you be mine Kate?" he asked softly looking deep into her eyes she nodded slightly meeting his lips in an emotional filled answer.
So this is set at the start of 4.01 and after the 2 weeks it'll be set in episode 4.02 istead of following the show I'm doing it my own way, hope your all enjoying Xx
