Damian reflects on becoming Robin.
Chapter 75: What is Rightfully Mine
Damian's POV
I inherited what was rightfully mine on my ninth birthday. The mantle of Robin should have been mine from the beginning. I deserved it. I've only been Robin for a few months now, but I am positive that I am the best Robin.
Although, I had to create my own attire. No way in Hell was I going to be Robin in the same costume Drake wore. What if someone were to have mistaken me for the weak and tiny Robin. And have you seen Grayson's and Toodd's attire? It is ridiculous! I refuse to wear scaly panties! I choose the traditional Robin colors, but added pants and a hood.
Father finally came to his senses after Grayson suggested the idea to him. Drake was going to move on and I was to receive Robin. It was high time I'd be allowed to join my family and their nighttime activities.
Although, I was nervous at first. What if I disappointed Father or Grayson? What if I failed? What if Mother became displeased at my actions? What if Father took it away from me?
And my father is the most difficult man on this planet to work with! It always has to be his way! It can never be my way! Yet, I do get to work with Grayson, which isn't bad.
My first night on patrol, I ran into Killer Croc. (And I am definitely not afraid of him!) I disobeyed orders to wait in the Batmobile and decided to find the criminal myself. I was so sure I could handle the beast, but I was wrong. He nearly killed me, but I was saved by Father and Grayson. (Where the Hell was Todd and Drake that night?)
Father nearly took Robin away from me for disobeying his orders. (Grayson said it was because I scared him. But, Father is fearless… Isn't he?) Yet, Grayson talked him into giving me another chance.
When I first arrived to live with Father, I thought the idea of fighting crime was beneath me. It seemed ridiculous. I preferred my former way of living at first. It wasn't until I became Robin I realized that I was where I needed to be.
Robin is rightfully mine and no one shall take it from me… for now. I will be the next Batman and then I will need a Robin. (I suppose I can always make Grayson wear his former costume.)
