"What time's your appointment?" Charge asked as he walked across the gangway with her
"Um…."
"Kate you have made an appointment haven't you?" he said a little annoyed turning to face her
"I just haven't had the time" she shrugged
"Kate…"
"I'll do it, stop worrying"
"Well go on then" he crossed his arms
"What? It's 2100 the doctors aren't even open"
"No but they were you had time to do it"
"I will do it in the morning, scouts honour" she smirked
"Promise?" he said holding out his hand
"I pinkie promise" she laughed as they sealed the deal with a pinkie promise
"Great, now you coming to the pub?" he asked as they began walking towards the carpark
"Um…"
"X!" Mike voiced called as he walked across the gangway
"Maybe some other time" she smiled at Charge he squeezed her hand before walking off to meet with the rest of the crew.
"Sir is everything okay?" she asked acting professional as people still descended off Hammersley
"I just wanted to inform you that I have a debrief in the morning with Commander White" he saluted at the passing people
"What time?"
"1000, maybe we could some breakfast afterwards?" he asked hopeful
"Sure if I don't have other plans" she fixed her bag over her shoulder
"With Charge you mean?" he replied with a slight tinge of jealousy
"Seriously?" she scoffed as she began to walk off
"What? What did I say?" he called as he ran after her
"You're jealous" she replied stopping once again as he skidded to a halt
"I'm not jealous!" he laughed
"Yes you are!"
"I…"
"It's Charge I mean really he's like the older annoying Uncle" she shrugged
"I saw you on the deck, why didn't you just come to me?" he asked sadly
"Because! Every time I try to have a serious conversation with you it turns into something more that will fill your sexual urges"
"That's not true" he replied quickly
"Really? Then what was that little stunt in your cabin earlier"
"I didn't hear you complaining at the time" he grinned moving closer to her
"That is not the point, I did not need you trying to feel me up I needed you to listen" she groaned angrily
"I'm listening now" he said hopeful placing a hand on her arm
"It doesn't matter, I have to go" she brushed him off
"Kate?" he called after her as she walked off.
Arriving home 30 minutes later after stopping off at the shops for some Milk for a coffee in the morning Kate sighed as she spotted Mike sitting on her front steps with a bouquet of flowers
"For you…" he smiled weakly as he arose
"Their beautiful" she smiled softly taking them from him
"What's the occasion?" she asked unlocking the front door
"Well it would appear that I seem to be thinking more of myself then what the woman I love needs" he sighed following her inside
"Really…" she replied placing the stuff on the bench as she felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist as they spun her around pulling her into a warm hug
"I'm sorry Kate…" he whispered against her ear as she wrapped her arms around his neck hugging him tightly
"I shouldn't have gone off at you like that…" she answered as he moved his head back to look at her
"You were right so to make up for it I'll go to the shops and get some stuff too cook you a romantic meal" he smiled
"That sounds really nice but I'm not really hungry…" she said sadly
"Sure, I best head off anyway…" he kissed her forehead as he went to move back her grip around his arms tightened
"Stay?" she asked hopeful
"Kate…"
"I just need you here" she smiled
"I'll put these in some water why you go get changed" he nodded hesitating for a second as he looked down at her lips
"Or… You could take a warm shower with company permitted?" she grinned noticing what he was doing
"I thought…"
"We can talk tomorrow" she smiled as he moved his head closer to hers
"You send so many mixed signals Katie" he laughed as he met her lips in a fiery kiss he gripped her tight lifting her up as he sat her on the bench pushing her bags and flowers aside
"Well it's only fair to let you finish what we started earlier" she grinned as he moved along her neck she moaned
"There it is" he laughed against her neck she playfully hit his chest as he picked her up and carried her towards the bedroom his shirt having been pulled off by Kate and thrown down the hall.
"Now that was definitely worth the wait…" Mike laughed as he fell back into his side of the bed he felt Kate's hand on his bare chest as he calmed his breathing down he interlocked it with his and kissed the back of it
"If every shore leave is going to be like that I think I can get used to the perks of dating the CO" she grinned as the sheet rested across her chest
"You know what made it even more enjoyable?" he smiled as he shifted to face her
"Oh I don't know" she smirked
"Seeing you…" he kissed her arm as he moved closer
"Still wearing the necklace I got for you" he smiled stopping at her neck as the 'M' sat upside down with the way she was laying
"Really?"
"Well that and you seem to have learnt a few new moves" he laughed
"I did my research I mean after this morning I figured I owed you something different" she shrugged with a grin before shifting to sit up as she pulled the sheet with her
"Where are you going?" he asked leaning on his shoulder
"For that shower I never made it too" she stopped in the bathroom doorway
"Well don't take too long!" he winked at her
"Haven't you had enough?" she called back turning on the water as she dropped the sheet he spotted her reflection in the mirror quickly jumping out of the bed he entered the shower behind her
"Another round?" he whispered in her ear as the water streamed across his back
"I could be persuaded" she grinned turning her head as she met his lips in a passionate kiss.
The next morning Mike made his way downstairs in yesterday's clothes as he picked up his shirt up from the hallway floor he heard Kate on the phone
"Sure I can do 9:30?" she asked looking at her watch
"Yes thank you, okay I'll see you then" she replied after a few minutes as the call ended she started typing a message to Charge before placing her phone down
"Who was that?" Mike asked entering the kitchen as she jumped a little
"Geez! How long have you been there?" she replied a hand resting over her heart
"A few minutes, so who was that?" he asked again
"No one important, um coffee?" she asked changing the subject as he pulled his shirt on
"No I've got to head home get ready to meet with Maxine" he replied buttoning up his shirt
"I thought that was at 10?" she said reaching for the milk that sat in front of her
"It is but I need a shower and my uniforms at home"
"Right sorry" she nodded
"We still good to breakfast after?" he asked hopeful moving towards her
"Sure, help yourself to the coffee I'm just going to go get dressed she smiled before moving past him.
Looking down at her phone he bit his lip nervously as he looked through her recent call list the name 'Cairns Medical Centre' staring him back in the face as a message from Charge beeped through
'I'll pick you up at 9:15 before your nerves get the better of you' scrolling through her recent messages he spotted Nikki's name under Charge's pressing on it he couldn't help but smile at the interaction between them with Nikki teasing Kate about a mystery man and Kate giving her normal XO response, exiting out of the messages he sighed as a beep indicated she'd received another message from a number he didn't recognize with the name 'E McG' taking a look at the message he felt a tinge of jealousy
'Been thinking of you since we last spoke sweetheart; call me when you're on shore leave next, I love you x' quickly placing her phone back down as he heard cluttering upstairs he moved to make himself a coffee.
"You'd tell me if there was something wrong right?" he asked a few minutes later as she re-entered the kitchen
"What?" she replied a little confused
"If you were sick or having second thoughts you'd tell me?" he said leaning against the bench
"Why would I be having second thoughts?" she asked avoiding his first part of the question
"Well just… the whole working together having a secret relationship I know it's not exactly how you wanted things to go" he sighed as she reached for her phone
"Where's this coming from?" she replied as she began answering to Charge's message
"Kate…" he sighed grabbing the phone out of her hands as he placing it on the bench next to her
"Is this something you don't want to pursue?"
"You mean this, us?" she asked motioning between them
"Well yeah…"
"Why would you even think that?" she said crossing her arms
"Well I mean…" he looked at her phone before back at her
"You read my messages?"
"I…"
"Are you serious right now?"
"Well you're not telling me anything are you!"
"So that gives you permission to read my private messages" she scoffed
"You left it just sitting there, I can't help it if you're getting mysterious messages at 7:30 in the morning" he replied seeing the hurt in her eyes
"My private messages Mike; you had no right!"
"What's going on between you and Charge?"
"That's what this is about? I thought we already discussed this" she replied grabbing her phone as she moved into the lounge
"No you yelled and walked off we didn't discuss anything and while we're at it who's 'E McG' and why is he saying he loves you?"
"What?" she asked spinning around to face him
"It came through when I was…"
"When you were snooping"
"I just want to know what's going on?"
"You had no right, I don't go through your phone" she shrugged
"You're not telling me anything Kate, you're keeping something from me!" he yelled
"Because there is nothing to tell! Charge is a friend that's all and as for the other message 'E McG' stands for Elliot McGregor, he's my Father" she replied annoyed
"You're Father… But I thought…"
"He found me a few months ago, he calls twice a week I'm still trying to get used to having a Dad so I call him Elliot instead"
"Wow… Kate that's great" he smiled moving towards her
"Don't change the subject! There's still the matter of why you were even snooping in the first place" she spat back
"I think I should go…" was his reply
"What? You go snooping and now you're just leaving" she answered confused as he moved towards the door
"I won't be in a relationship with someone who keeps secrets" he shrugged
"I'm not keeping any secrets!"
"And normally I'd believe you but those messages to Charge suggest otherwise, I'm sorry…" he said placing a hand on the door handle
"So that's it then, you don't get the information you want and so you're running?" she said sadly
"I'm not running when you're ready to tell me I'll be here" he sighed looking back at her
"This is pathetic, you're over reacting over nothing" she threw her hands up
"You know where I'll be" he replied before exciting her house the door clicking shut behind him.
"I don't know if I can wait a whole week…" Kate sighed just after 10 as her and Charge exited the doctors towards his car
"Blood tests, scans the whole 9 yards he must have thought you were crazy" he smiled
"What if I am?" she grinned
"What if it turns out to be nothing or if it's not for many more years like 10 or 12" she continued
"Well that's a good thing right?" he asked confused turning to face her
"I just…" she began saying as he placed a hand on her arm stopping her
"Whatever it is we'll get through it" he smiled placing a hand on her cheek in comfort before she pulled him into a hug
"Thanks Charge" she answered
"Anything for my favourite XO" he squeezed her before letting go
"Possibly temporarily…" she replied as he looked at her sadly know what she was saying
"You said that 2 years ago!" he laughed trying to lighten the mood
"I guess I just couldn't bare to leave everyone…"
"Especially the CO?" he asked as she stopped in confusion
"What…"
"It's pretty obvious you two have the hots for each other"
"Hots? What am I twelve" she grinned
"But it's a bit more than that isn't it?" he asked with a sad smile
"It… It was, now I'm not so sure" she shrugged as he placed a hand on her shoulder
"The Charge is here to listen no judgement included"
"Talking to someone could get us all in trouble… Fraternization I mean; technically the CO and I we've broken the rules…" she sighed as he wrapped an arm across her shoulder before continuing to walk
"My lips are sealed Kate, I'm here as a friend not a workmate" he smiled as she nodded and began telling him about her past and present that involved the so called Mike Flynn…
Just a heads up the next Chapter could be a flash forward I've haven't decided yet, as I'm trying to figure out what to have happen next... Xx
