Hammersley 1415:
"It's been 40 minutes!" Mike yelled slamming his fists on his chair
"We'll find something" Nav tried assuring him
"They couldn't have just disappeared!"
"Maybe you should take a break" Charge said moving towards the Captain's chair
"I'm fine" he muttered in response
"Sir"
"Go get a brew we'll let you know once we find something" Swain said in the hopes he'd listen
"Okay…" he nodded moving to stand as a loud explosion was heard in the distance
"Charge get on the EOD!"
"Sir!" Charge yelled as he trained the EOD on where the explosion had come from
"What the hell was that?" Nav asked as she looked through the binoculars
"Sir I've got debris here" Charge answered as Mike quickly moved to stand behind him
"What does it look like to you?" he asked nervously as Charge moved the EOD around before stopping
"Sir it's… It's Moonshine" he replied as Mike moved back in disbelief
"No…." Nikki said as a hand flew across her mouth to quieten the sob that was coming
"Swain get a RHIB in the water now"
"Yes Sir"
"I want any survivors found!"
"Copy that Sir; Charge, 2Dads with me!" Swain yelled as he ran off the bridge.
"Come to stop Harpy" Swain said holding his hand up as the RHIB stopped next to some debris 5 minutes later
"It's a mess" 2Dads answered looking around his bino's for any signs of life
"It looks like it's been deliberately lit, you can smell the petrol"
"You don't think… I mean you don't think they would have left the X on board?" 2Dads asked nervously
"She's there leverage they wouldn't kill her" Swain replied quickly as the RHIB drifted along the water they looked at all the debris
"Swain sit-rep" Mike's voice crackled through the radio
"Sir, it appears that the boat was deliberately lit the smell of petrol is quite prominent"
"Any survivors?"
"Not that we can…"
"Swain!" 2Dads yelled pointing to something floating in the water
"Swain?" Mike asked nervously
"Just a second Sir" his voice answered as the radio clicked off the RHIB sped towards the floating object.
"What is it?" Charge asked as Swain leant over the side of the RHIB
"It's…" he said a little confused as he pulled the life vest out of the water
"What the hell is that supposed to be?" 2Dads replied as they looked at the life vest that had Kate's DPNU shirt tied around it with her dog tags
"Did the X do this?"
"I don't…" Swain began saying as he noticed something sticking out of her jacket
"What is it?" Charge asked
"We need to get back to Hammersley"
"Swain?"
"There's nothing here" he answered quickly as he pulled the notepad from her pocket placing it in his own
"Okay…" Charge replied as Harpy began the journey back to Hammersley.
"Swain?" Mike asked as they walk back onto Hammersley 5 minutes later
"Sir, no bodies and no survivors my best bet they ditched the boat to get away"
"And the X?" he replied nervously as Swain passed him a wet and crumped DPNU shirt with dog tags
"I believe they may have gotten her to take them off to make it look like she'd been killed I also found this…" he replied pulling the notepad out of his pocket as he passed it to him
"Her notepad?"
"There something in there for you Sir…" he nodded as Mike took the notepad and made his way down to his cabin.
Closing the door to his cabin a few minutes later Mike sat down at his desk placing Kate's shirt and dog tags down he opened the first page of her slightly wet notepad her handwriting staring him back in the face
'Mike, There's something I need to tell you and if I never get the chance in person I need you to know… I'm Pregnant, about 6 weeks I found out this morning and well its yours' holding back the tears he carefully lifted the page to read on
'Things were always so complicated between us, a history at ADFA a history on Hammersley it was never going to work you and I both know that but part of me wanted to have hope, hope that you would have come back after walking out 9 years ago and hope you would have come back when you walked out 6 weeks ago' sniffling a little he continued reading
'When I almost died on the oil rig all I could think about was you and never getting the chance to tell you how much I truly love you, no matter how many times I pushed myself to move on I always ended up coming back to the one person whom would always have my heart. I love you Mike Flynn I really do and if I never get the chance to say it to your face or look into your steel blue eyes again just know I don't regret it and I never did maybe in another life we'll get the chance to give things another go; but I guess the reality is I may not make it out of here alive, I'll always love you Kate Xx' placing the notepad down he tried to hold back the tears as he reached for her dog tags he ran his thumb across the engraving
"Kate… I will find you if it the last thing I do, I will hold you in my arms again and we will see our baby grow up" he muttered to himself between the silent tears.
Kate 1440:
"Did you really have to take my jacket, its bloody cold" Kate grumbled as she rubbed her arms in the hopes of warming herself up
"How else were we supposed to make it look like you were dead?" Matt answered angrily as he motioned for her to stand
"They won't fall for it" she said as he pointed the gun at her head
"That's where you're wrong, now move" he motioned for her to walk off the boat
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see" he said pushing the gun into her back
"Matt!" Liv called out stopping them
"What?" he yelled as he turned to face her Kate got the upper hand and kicked him in the back of knee causing him to fall forward reaching for her radio he had taken she quickly snatched it off his belt before making a run for it
"Liv! Get Jack and Stewart out here now!" he screamed as he pointed the gun in Kate's direction and randomly began firing
"Shit!" Kate called to herself as bullets were flying in all different directions around her
"Hammersley this is the Kate come in over!" she yelled into the radio as she continued running she could hear footsteps chasing after her
"Give it up!" Jack yelled
"Hammersley this is the Kate come in over" she tried again as she quickly ducked behind a tree
"XO this is Hammersley what is your position over?" RO's voice finally crackled through
"RO thank god! They transferred me to a different boat an island I don't…" she paused as bullets started hitting the tree she was behind
"XO come in over"
"I don't know the specific island but we're in the vicinity of red reef about 200 clicks inland send a fully kitted boarding team do not I repeat do not come UNARMED!"
"Gotcha!" Stewart called as he held the gun against Kate's head
"XO this is the CO are you hurt?" Mike's voice came through as Stewart grabbed her by the scruff of her shirt pulling her up Kate clicking her finger on the button of the radio so Hammersley received all that was happening.
"You little bitch!" he said angrily as Kate spat in his face
"Please, just let me go" Kate cried as Stewart pushed his gun into her shoulder he pulled the trigger, Kate screamed as she fell to the ground dropping the radio. Stewart held the gun over Kate as Jack quickly pulled him back
"Stewart what the hell, the deal was to not hurt her" he answered angrily
"She's dead anyway, Matt won't let her live"
"She's bloody Pregnant!"
"It's her shoulder she'll be fine" Stewart replied as the radio crackled to life
"X, I repeat again are you hurt?"
"Mike…" Kate whispered as she held her shoulder in pain
"KATE!" Mike's voice yelled as Stewart reached for the radio
"You're XO is fine, tell them sweetheart" Stewart answered as he moved the radio next to Kate
"I… Mik… Lov…" was all she managed to say before her eyes dropped close and she felt an arm wrap around her waist picking her up
"KATE! If you hurt her I will personally put a bullet in your skull" Mike snapped back
"With pleasure Commander I look forward to seeing your face when I kill the woman you oh so clearly love" Stewart replied
"If you touch…" was the last transmission that came through the radio before Stewart threw it on the ground and smashed it.
"Nice going Stewart!" Jack said annoyed as he carried an unconscious Kate, Matt finally catching up with Liv
"What the hell happened?" he asked confused looking at Kate
"Genius here shot her in the shoulder" Jack motioned to Stewart
"You were supposed to catch her not put a bullet in her!" he said annoyed
"Matt, we need to go the Navy will be here soon" Liv replied placing a hand on her brother's arm
"There's an old bunker we tie her up in" Matt answered shrugged his sister off
"What about her shoulder?" Jack asked nervously
"What about it, hopefully she'll bleed out and we'll be gone long before they get here"
"Matt…"
"What Liv! She's dead anyway why hang around" he shrugged as they looked at Kate's pail form.
Hammersley crew and Kate 2040:
6 hours later Kate began to come too, opening her eyes slowly she looked around at darkness the only small light coming from her watch on her wrist that was tied behind her back her shoulder had been badly strapped and it ached
"Mike…" she muttered closing her eyes again as a warm hand was placed on her cheek
"I'm sorry Kate" the voice replied
"ET, you really do show up at the most unexpected times" she tried to smile as he sat in front of her
"They'll find you Kate, Mike will find you" he answered as her eyes drifted closed
"Mike's not coming ET, this is my fate…" she replied leaning her head against the wall hissing slightly as she pulled at her shoulder
"No Kate it's not"
"I can't change this one ET, I've been shot tied up left to die!" she yelled opening her eyes again as she noticed a flicker of light
"It's not how you're leaving this world Kate" he smiled as several more lights flickered around the entrance of the bunker her eyes slipped shut again as she felt 2 pairs of hands against her face
"Kate…" he whispered brushing her cheek with his thumb afraid to open her eyes she squeezed them shut tighter when she felt a pair of lips against hers in a remorseful kiss
"Mike…" she whispered as her head followed his when the lips pulled away she slowly opened her eyes that were met with a steel blue pair.
"You came?" she said between the tears as he cut the rope away from her wrists
"Leaving you is something I'm never doing again" he replied as she wrapped her good arm around his in an instant pulling him into a love filled hug
"I'm so sorry…" she mumbled against his shoulder
"All that matters is you…" he moved a hand down and placed it against her stomach
"And our little baby is safe" he smiled resting his forehead against hers
"Mike…" she began saying as he brushed a piece of hair behind her ear
"Let's get you where you belong" he interrupted her as he carefully picked her up in his arms she rested her head against his chest taking in his usual Mike smell when her eyes widened at seeing the crew standing outside the bunker clapping as their CO carried out the woman he loved.
Hammersley finally home where she belongs 2300:
"How you feeling?" Mike asked approaching to her on the back boat deck while they began the journey back to port after meeting with the Federal and handing over Matt Robson and his crew,
"Tired" she answered weakly her left arm in a sling in the hopes of keeping her shoulder in place, the chance of her need pins in place very likely as the bullet shattered the bone.
"I thought you'd be in your rack getting some sleep" he answered sitting on her good side
"I couldn't sleep"
"Kate…" he said clearing his throat as he moved closer to her and moved his hand across resting it on her thigh she looked down at it confused
"Please…" she begged as he moved his other hand up and brushed it against her cheek
"I got your note…" he whispered as she turned her head to look at him he moved forwards and brushed his lips against hers in a soft kiss pulling back slightly he was surprised when her head followed and met his lips in a more passionate kiss his hand moving along her cheek as he scrunched his fingers up in her hair eventually the need for air pulling them apart,
moving back to stand Mike held out his hand as he pulled Kate up she interlocked her fingers with his as he walked them towards the side hatch and through the corridor into his cabin, thankfully the only people who were awake was those on watch on the bridge.
Without any words spoken between them they knew what was happening and what needed to happen the Navy Regulations being the furthest thing from their minds or that what they were doing was wrong they just needed to know how the other felt and that Kate…
That she was alive and here, lowering her onto his rack she rested her head against his pillow as he smiled down at her she ran her good hand along his now bare chest
"I love you Kate, I've always and will always love you" he broke the silence moving his head down and placing a soft kiss against her lips
"I love you Mike Flynn" she smiled against his lips as his hand carefully ran underneath her shirt and rested against her abdomen both shedding a few tears as they made love.
