Chapter 84: Brightest Day, Darkest Knight

Bruce's POV

I drummed my fingers impatiently. Where in the Hell is Green Lantern? I want to get this damn meeting over with and he has yet to show up! He was supposed to be her twenty-seven minutes and forty-two seconds ago!

Everyone looked up as the doors opened. Wait. Why are there two of them?

"This is Kyle Rayner, my new protégé." Hal announced.

What dumbass decided to give Hal Jordan a protégé? This is a bad idea.

Jason's POV

"What!"

"There's nothing I can do about it, Jason."

"Take Tim or Damian. Take Dick! He's in the League!"

Bruce shook his head. "You know that Dick is injured. Tim is too young. And Damian is grounded for injuring Dick."

"But, these people hate me! I'm not even in the Justice League! And I don't want to work with the asshole!"

"Jason, we all have to work with people we don't like. Get dressed. We're leaving in five minutes."

I glared at Bruce as I get dressed into my costume. Why me? Superman is such an ass! I can't believe he assigned freaking Hal Jordan and Bruce to work together. And I have to fill in for Dick!

About five minutes later we teleported to meet up with the Justice League. This is so freaking stupid!

As soon as we walked in, practically everyone was glaring at me. I wanna go home. At least no one can see through my helmet.

"Batman, you and Green Lantern will take the route to the left of the comet-" Superman started barking out instructions.

Apparently, we have to blow up some comet in space or something. Yay.

"You're going the wrong way, Vampire!"

"I am not! Don't tell me how to drive my own Batship!"

"Then go the right way! And we wouldn't even need a spaceship if you could fly!"

I rolled my eyes as Kyle sighed. It's been like this the entire way up here. They won't stop arguing. It's so annoying.

"Will you two please-" I began before something slammed into the ship, knocking me onto the floor.

Alarms started to scream as the lights shut off. What's happening?

"Everyone, hold on!"

Bruce's POV

I opened my eyes to find that I was laying on… grass? What the Hell? What happened?

I slowly sat up and looked around. Grass, trees, flowers. I could see my spacecraft destroyed. Damn. They are so expensive to replace and… Jason! Where's Jason!

"Oh good. The Vampire's awake." Jordan's cocky voice said as he appeared beside me.

"Where are we?" I asked, standing up.

"Your guess is as good as mine. But, one thing I know for sure is that Kyle and Jason aren't with us."

Jason's POV

"Jason, come on man wake up."

I opened my eyes to see Kyle hovering over me.

"What happened?" I murmured as he shrugged.

"I don't know. We have to find our mentors."

"Where are we?" I asked.

"I don't know, but it's weird. I don't think we're on Earth." He replied.

He offered me his hand as I studied a missing key item. I moved my gaze to his clothes. He's in jeans, a light jacket, sneakers, and a t-shirt. Dumb ass.

"Kyle, are you missing something?"

"Oh shit. Hal's going to kill me."

Bruce's POV

"I can't get a signal for Red Hood's tracker." I growled, looking at my unresponsive equipment.

"Then I guess it's a good thing I can keep better track of my protégé. I can track him through his ring." He smirked.

"I don't think you'll need to look too far to find his ring." I replied, pointing to the ring lying in the grass.

"I'm going to kill him."

Jason's POV

"Can you shoot?" I asked as Kyle tried not to panic.

"What?"

"Can you shoot a gun?" I asked, holding out my spare.

"Of course." He replied, taking the weapon.

"You're holding it the wrong way and the safety's on, genius."

"Okay, normally I don't have to worry about it!"

"Uh huh… How long have you been a Lantern?"

"About two weeks."

"And that's what happens when you get stuck with Hal Jordan."

"Don't talk about my mentor like that! You don't know him like I do! And you have nothing to say! You were raised by a vampire!" he yelled, getting in my face.

"Don't talk about my father like that!" I yelled back, trying to resist the urge to punch him.

"Yeah, well a Green Lantern can do anything!"

"Except, shut up or remember to keep their damn rings with them!"

"Yeah, well-" he began before a deafening roar was heard followed by the shaking of trees.

"Run!" I yelled seconds before something ran out of the trees.

Holy shit! Either that's a dinosaur or we're in a freakin remake of Jurassic Park!

We ran as fast as possible, stopping only when we reached a cliff. That's a long drop. I could see the water rushing below us. Jump or be eaten?

"Jump!"

Bruce's POV

"This will take all day, we still don't know where we are, Kyle is still missing-" he began before I knocked him into a shrub.

"Shhh." I whispered as he glared at me.

"What?"

"Did you hear that?"

"Hear what?" he asked.

A low growl rumbled through the trees and rattled the earth.

"That."

We waited a couple of minutes before moving. An enormous roar shook the Earth as a dinosaur appeared… A dinosaur!

"Stay here! You'll just get in the way!" Jordan ordered, flying to meet the creature as I grappled after him.

"Ha! Not so tough now are you!" he yelled, wrapping the beast in chains.

"Watch out!" I yelled as the creature's tail slammed into Jordan, breaking his concentration.

He went down and the creature's powerful jaws followed. Launching my grapple, I quickly looped the wire around the snout and pulled the thing away from Jordan.

"Concentrate! And help me!" I yelled as he got up and shot wires towards the beast.

Seconds later, the wires were alive with electricity. The beast was down on the ground unconscious. We moved closer.

"Where the hell are we?"

Jason's POV

"You okay?" Kyle asked as we dragged ourselves out of the water.

"Yeah. You?"

"I'm fine."

"So, you want the good news or the bad news?" I asked as he shrugged.

"Good news is that we're alive. Bad news is that it's getting dark. There's freaking dinosaurs here! And we're separated from our mentors."

"What do we do?"

"First, we find shelter and something to eat."

"What about a cave?"

"That'll work."

As the sun started to disappear, we had gathered firewood and fish and water. Pulling out my lighter, I lit the fire and a cigarette.

"Smoke?"

"Uh, no thanks." He responded, shaking his head.

An awkward moment of silence passed as we both gazed at the flames.

"So… how old are you?" I asked, trying to break the silence.

"Seventeen. I'll be eighteen in a couple of months… You?"

"Eighteen… So, how did you get the ring?"

"An alien named Ganthet gave it to me. He just showed up and gave it to me."

"Musta been a shock for your parents." I added as his face fell.

"Actually, my mom died earlier this year and my dad walked out on us a long time ago." He whispered as I felt a pang of similarity.

"My mom died too. And my dad walked out on us when I was five."

"But, I though Batman was-"

"I'm adopted. Well, me and my brothers all are… except for Damian."

"You know, Hal's probably the closest thing to a father I have. He's not perfect, but still…"

"If you weren't so easy to like, I'd probably give you some smartass comment about what's wrong with your mentor." I smirked as he raised an eyebrow.

"Then I'd have to give you a comment about your bloodsucker of a dad."

Bruce's POV

"Get up." I growled.

"What time is it?" Jordan muttered as I rolled my eyes.

"Dawn."

"I thought you were the Dark Knight, not the Day Knight!"

"We're wasting time. My son is still out there." I hissed as he climbed to his feet.

"Then it's a good thing he's with Kyle."

"You're student is powerless at this moment and I'm positive you've taught him only the basics of the ring and not how to survive without it. He's lucky to be with Jason."

"My kid could kick your kid's ass with or without the ring!"

"Hell would have to freeze over first!"

"You'd know all about Hell wouldn't you, Vampire!"

"You-" I stopped as I the sound of gunfire was heard. Jason!

********Break********

Jason's POV

"Jason, come on. Wake up. It's dawn."

I growled at the hand shaking my shoulder.

"We have to find our mentors. Come on. Up."

I reluctantly got up and followed him out of the cave. I yawned as I dipped my hand into the water of the stream outside of the small cave.

"Jason! Look out!"

What? I looked up just in time to have a spiked tail slam into me. I gasped for breath as I hit the wall of the canyon hard. The creature roared causing part of the wall to fall, conveniently landing on my leg. A scream of pain escaped my lips as I looked up at the monster.

The thing was nearly as tall as a skyscraper with spikes all over its body. It roared again as it stomped towards me.

"Leave him alone!" Kyle screamed, taking a shot at it with my spare pistol.

Oh good. Kyle pissed it off. I pushed against the rock on my leg as Kyle barely dodged an attack. About a minute later he was beside me. He began pushing on the rock.

"What are you doing? Go!" I yelled.

"I'm not leaving without you!"

"That thing is coming! Go!"

"No!" he yelled, straining against the rock.

The creature ran straight for us as it opened its enormous and ugly jaws filled with rows of razor sharp teeth. Before it could reach us, a cable shot out, wiring the beast's jaws shut. A black figure soon appeared accompanied by a green blur, slamming into the dinosaur.

Holy shit! Batman and Green Lantern are working together!

We watched as the dinosaur went down. That was freaking awesome! We were then approached by our mentors as Green Lantern lifted the rock off of me.

"Thanks." I mumbled as Batman helped me up.

"Are you all right?" he asked, checking me for more injuries before wrapping my leg.

"I'm fine."

"Damn it Kyle! How many times do I have to tell you that your ring is not a toy! You're to keep it with you at all-" he stopped as Kyle's face fell. Jordan sighed before reaching out and squeezing Kyle's shoulder. "You okay kid?"

"I'm okay." he responded as the older Lantern gave him a small smile.

"Good… You did good."

Bruce's POV

I scowled as Kyle lifted Jason up. What if he drops Jason?

"Relax, Vampire. If Kyle drops your kid it'll be on accident. If I drop you it'll be on purpose. Now, you be a good little nonflying bat and come leap into my arms." Jordan smirked.

I really hate that man. When we get back, the first thing I'm going to do is stab Clark for making me work with him!
