3 Years Later…
"Well it's about time, where the hell have you been?" she grumbled from her place at the kitchen table
"I had a few things to sort out before the next Patrol" he grinned placing a kiss against her cheek
"Next time you decide to leave maybe give me warning I've been dealing with a grumpy 2-year-old and a unsettled 3 month old all day" she motioned to where their curly blonde haired, blue eyed daughter was sitting watching 'Teletubbies' on TV
"She's been that bad?" he asked confused as she looked peacefully intrigued at what she was watching
"Your daughter appears to hate the fact that she's no longer getting all the attention" she smirked shifting the baby in her arms
"And how's my little man today?" he asked taking the 3 month old from her arms
"That is a whole other story" she rolled her eyes moving to stand as she fixed up her bra and pulled her shirt down placing the towel over Mikes shoulder as he began to burp him she moved to fix him a coffee.
What an interesting experience the past 3 years have been…
Commander Marshall went to bat for Kate and Mike explaining that nothing ever happened between them on the ship they were always professional on board and he made the point that working is such close quarters with someone you can't help but grow attached and form feelings for them, Mike was allowed to stay on Hammersley and at 7 months Kate took a permanent shore posting not liking the idea of being out at Sea when their baby was to come along.
'Elly Louise Flynn' joined the world at 8 and a half months 2 weeks early, Mike was on his way back from Patrol when he got the call that Kate had gone into Labour making it just in time as their little girl entered the world;
looking down into the blue eyes of their newborn baby girl she was the splitting imagine of her parents combined with Mike's steel blue eyes and Kate luscious blonde locks her nose crinkled in the way her Mothers did 2 minutes after their little girl entered the world Mike proposed to Kate and with tears in her eyes she nodded.
A year later and they were married in an intimate ceremony with just the Hammersley crew and Mike's parents, Swain walked Kate down the aisle and Elly was a flower girl while Bomber and the new girl Bird were Kate's bridesmaids and Nikki who became the XO was her maid of honour.
2Dads, Robert and the new Buffer were Mikes Groomsmen and Swain his best man while Charge was the wedding officiate, 2 weeks alone in Tahiti for their honey moon and Nikki looked after a very energetic 1 and a half year old.
6 months later the day after they celebrated the 2nd birthday of their little girl Kate waited on the docks for Mike as Hamersley pulled into port after a 6-month patrol across the gulf helping the army with clean-ups from various cyclones that hit the coast her plan was put in motion she'd brought Elly a t-shirt in the hopes of revealing the news.
As Mike moved towards them he pulled Kate in a passionate kiss a loose cardigan wrapped around her protectively as a 2-year-old Elly moved from her Mother's arms and into her Dads
'So Elly has some news' she grinned
'Oh?' he answered confused as Kate pointed to her shirt Mike pulled at it so the writing was visible
'I'm being promoted to big sister' he read aloud as he looked at Kate who had moved her cardigan back to reveal a slight swell she ran her hand over it
'Congratulations Daddy' she grinned as he placed Elly down he moved to Kate and pulled her into a passionate embrace
'Why didn't you say anything?' he smiled moving back from the kiss as he ran his hand along her swell
'It was meant to be a surprise but you'd been tasked to stay out an extra 2 months it would appear that night in the hot tub 5 months ago was more than just a little bit of fun' she grinned
'We're having another baby?' he replied with a wide smile as Elly squealed with a giggle running off towards Nikki who was exiting over the gangway she jumped into her arms
'A little boy Mike' she grinned as he felt a slight movement under his hand
'A boy?' he asked tearing up as Kate nodded he turned to the crew
'WE'RE HAVING ANOTHER BABY A LITTLE BOY!!' he screamed at the top of his lungs before pulling Kate into a big hug and swinging her around the crew gathered around to congratulate them.
4 and a half months later 'Owen Joshua Flynn' was born 2 weeks late of Kate's due date luckily this time Hammersley was in port for repairs after a long and stressful labour Owen entered the world via C-section with his mother's green eyes and his Fathers brown hair he was the complete opposite to his sister who was born 2 and a half years earlier.
"Alright come on squirt time for bed" Kate answered just after 8:00pm as Elly began falling asleep on the couch
"I not tired!" she answered back crossing her arms
"Yes you are, come on" Kate replied picking her up off the couch as she rested her head against her shoulder
"But Mummy, I want to watch tele tub" she mumbled as her eyes fluttered closed
"It'll still be there tomorrow" she said rubbing her back as she walked up the stairs and towards her bedroom
"Mmm" she mumbled back as Kate carefully laid Elly down in her bed she pulled the blanket over her
"Night Elly Bear" she said kissing her forehead as she moved towards the hall Mike exited Owen's room.
"She asleep?" he asked softly as he stopped next to her they looked at their little girl who was snoring softly
"That answer your question?" Kate grinned as it turned into a yawn
"Come on let's get you to bed" he said wrapping an arm around her waist as he maneuvered them towards the bedroom
"Getting up at 3am each morning for feeds is really exhausting" she sighed as he pulled at her dress passing her his shirt she wore to bed
"Did you express today?" he asked throwing her dress into the basket that sat near the walk in robe
"Yeah 2 bottles" she yawned again as she slipped into the bed
"Well next time he wake I'll warm up one of your bottles and feed that to him" he smiled grabbing the baby monitor off the side of her bed and moved around to his side
"You're a good man Mike Flynn" she answered as he moved in next to her he moved an arm across as she rested into his chest
"When you have a beautiful woman to call your wife it makes you a better version of yourself" he flicked off the lamp
"I love you" she nestled further into chest as the baby monitor crackled to life Kate went to move back as Mike placed a kiss on her forehead
"I'll go, you get some sleep" he replied slipping out from her embrace he watched her grab his pillow and hug it
"Thank you…" she mumbled as he eyes drifted closed he grabbed the monitor and exited the bedroom.
...
"You've done good for yourself Kate" his voice broke her daze as she stood on the back patio watching Mike who was getting Elly breakfast and trying to settle Owen
"Would you stop that!" Kate said holding her chest
"What?" he smirked
"As your guardian angel I can show up whenever I want"
"You're not here to tell me I'm going to die are you?" she asked sadly
"Quite the opposite actually"
"Really?"
"The day you were saved from Matt Robson was the day you changed your destiny Kate, and there is so many greater things to come" he smiled placing a hand on her shoulder
"I've been pretty lucky" she replied shivering slightly as his hand touched her shoulder
"Pretty lucky? Kate's you've made a home for yourself something you've always dreamt of you've got an amazing husband, 2 beautiful kids"
"Yeah…"
"So why am I sensing a but?" he asked softly
"It's more of a what if?"
"Okay…"
"What if this is all a dream and I wake up and it'll be gone"
"This is your life Kate it's no dream or a fantasy, and as for the whole disappearing thing it won't go anywhere until you do"
"Which will be?" she asked turning to face him
"Not for a long time yet my dear Kate"
"So I'll get to watch my kids grow up?"
"And there's" he nudged her slightly
"Hmm me a grandmother hey?" she grinned
"Oh absolutely and Mike he takes to being a Grandfather like a cook takes to being a chef" he smiled.

Making his way back into the bedroom just after 10 Mike smiled as Kate mumbled something her sleep about ET and Grandkids grinning he shifted her as he slipped in next to her she moved to lay against his chest
"I love you Kate" he whispered kissing her forehead
"Mmm Mike" she replied softly as he closed his eyes he cuddled her closer.
I never wanted a Guardian Angel.
I didn't ask for one.
One was assigned to me in the most unlikely form of someone I once lost.
