Hi gyes! So I wrote this little piece for today, May 16th. On their Anniversary. I wanted to write something like this and here you go! I hope you enjoy it as much I loved writing it. Happy anniversary Chelsie! I suggest you listen some wedding marches while reading this, just as did when I wrote it. Enjoy!
The day is sunny. The trees already have some leaves and the sun is shining on the blue sky, making everything look much more beautiful and magical. This day would be a magical one in fact. A long waited bliss to many of them. Upstairs and down.
...
Early morning, Mrs. Hughes' bedroom.
Elsie pulls her dressing gown on. The attics are extremely cold this time of the day, still cold morning. She sits down on the bed. Her thoughts are running through her mind, happy and nervous. In fact she is very happy. Today would bring them finally together. Oh god how long has she waited for this day to come. Mrs. Patmore had brought her breakfast in her room and soon Anna would come with Ms. Baxter to help her get ready. Elsie lifts the tray on her lap. The delicous smell of porridge, tea and fresh omelette fill the room. She starts to slowly eat, enjoying the special breakfast she is served today. Everyone had been most kind and helpful, well except for Lady Mary. Her intentions might have been well, but in the end she is happy that her ladyship put on a fight. All the fuss over the wedding has been meant well. Elsie turns her head at the door when she hears a knock.
"Yes?"Elsie says.
"Might I come in?"Mrs. Patmore smiles, looking through the little peek of the door.
"Of course, Mrs. Patmore. Do come in."She smiles and the woman at the door, steps in her bedroom.
"Are you enjoying your breakfast?"The cook asks.
"I am. It's very delicious, thank you."Elsie tolds.
"Well it was Mr. Carson's idea."Beryl smiles."He thought you'd like something special on your wedding day."
Elsie just shakes her head. He does manage to surprise her, her thoughtfull soon to be-husband. Just the word "husband" makes her shiver all over.
"Is everything under controll?"She asks.
"Oh no you don't think about that now."Beryl laughs."You just enjoy your breakfast and we'll make sure of everything else."
"Thank you, Mrs. Patmore. Really, I mean it. For everything you've done for us."Elsie smiles, trying to fight to not let the tears fall."I don't know if this day would come if you haven't existed."
"There is no need to thank me Mrs. Hughes."She shakes her head."I'm sure you would have done it all for me if you'd have to."
"Just call me Elsie when we are alone. Althought not in front of Mr. Carson."Elsie tolds.
"And you call me Beryl then."The cook smiles."But what about Mr. Carson?"
"What about him?"The housekeeper asks.
"What am I to call him? Charlie?"Beryl chuckles.
"I think it'll be for the best if you'd just stick in Mr. Carson."Elsie laughs.
"Propably. He would have an heart attack if I'd come and call him Charlie."She jokes.
"And we don't want that."Elsie rises her eye brows.
"No. Atleast you don't."The cook states, tease in her voice.
Elsie's eye open wide and she looks at the cook with confusion.
"Oh I'm just joking. Now that you finally are married, I want my tease!"Beryl says, making her friend laugh.
"Get away with you."Elsie rolls her eyes."We are not married yet."
"In two hours you damn real are."She tolds, laughing at Elsie's pathetic show.
"Oh stop it, Beryl."The housekeeper sighs.
Beryl sits down on the chair next to her bed.
"Are you nervous?"Beryl asks, her tone now calm.
"Like I'd have to tell you how nervous I am."Elsie smiles nervously.
"Everything will go well. I can assure you that."She reeassures.
"I know it will, but I can't help the feeling inside my head."Elsie places the tray aside.
"Just relax."Beryl tolds.
"You think I can relax?"The housekeeper rises her eye brows.
"Uhm..It's just an expression."The cook pats Elsie's hand.
"Right."Elsie chuckles softly.
Their laugh is disturbed by a gentle knock.
...
The next thirty minutes feel like forever. Anna is helping her to get dressed and Phyllis is making her hair. The presence of Mrs. Patmore is making her even more uneasy. Elsie's hands are shaking slightly, making it hard to hold on to the dress, while Anna buttons back of the dress up. She lifts her feet to slip the heels on and leans lower to let Ms. Baxter adjust her veil to it's place.
"You look gorgeus."Beryl smiles, holding back her tears.
"I don't know about that, Mrs. Patmore."Elsie laughs.
"She is right, Mrs. Hughes."Anna says."I can already imagine Mr. Carson's face when he sees you."
"You look lovely, Mrs. Hughes."Baxter smiles."Here...Have a look in the mirror."
Phyllis helps her step closer to the mirror.
Her eyes scan around the sight. The beautifull lace embroidered, white dress and her white heels making her look a little taller, and the long veil covering her back. She did indeed think she was beautiful. Elsie can feel the tears push through and sees Anna holding her a tissue.
"And if you say "I look tidy enough" I might tear your head off!"The cook tolds, her voice strict.
"I'll admit I look beautiful, just for you to know."Elsie turns around to look at the three women, smiling at them.
"You really do, Mrs. Hughes. Just as a bride should on her wedding day."Baxter tolds.
...
She looks at the changing view outside. The car, his lordship had sent them moves smoothly on the road. The village looks empty. Elsie's eyes are drawn to the church when they are close enough to see it.
The car stops in front of the big building. Elsie steps out, in the hand of Dr. Clarkson.
"Good morning, Mrs. Hughes."He greets.
"Good morning, Dr. Clarkson. I'm very thankful that you will walk me down the aisle."Elsie smiles.
"No need to thank me."Clarkson tolds."If I can say, you look very beautiful today, Mrs. Hughes."
"Thank you."She blushes at the very compliment.
"Shall we then?"He reaches out to lend his hand for her to take.
"Yes. I think we shall."Elsie sighs, slipping her arm into his.
