Hi everyone,

so first of all, thanks for the review, faves and follows (honestly I did not think the prologue was gonna get any).

Also I did upload the Chapter couple hours ago, but somehow the formatting got messed up. Hope it works now.

Anyways this chapter focuses on the introduction of the main character and her inner conflicts. There are, however, appearances of few BNHA characters.

Chapter 1: Deception

"The past beats inside me

like a second heart"

-John Banville, The Sea

From the outside, everyone thought Miyamoto Yui was the pure definition of self confidence and energy; a girl who knew what she wanted and how she would get it. Her head was always held high, never backing down from a verbal or physical fight, never the one to let other people walk all over her or the ones she holds dear, which were only truly two people in the entire world.

What people could not see, however, was the insecurities of a little girl, hidden behind an assured smile. Life gave her no choice but to be strong, whether she truly was or not; after all, she and her sister were orphans left alone at a young age and she happened to be the older one. She took the responsibility to take care of her sister, only younger by one year, to ensure a carefree future.

She never hated her childhood, despite growing up without loving parents, and it was all thanks to that green haired freckled boy, who one day randomly came up to her seven year old younger self lingering on the swing all by herself, asking if she wanted to share his chocolate bar with him. And that simple question was the beginning of a pure, deep friendship.

She sighed, running her fingers through her raven hair, her nervous eyes glancing towards her phone that was sitting on the desk just next to the books scattered all over the large oak table, which, currently, was only occupied by her. Besides her and the older strict looking librarian, the library was empty, everyone was in the cafeteria eating their well deserved lunch.

Despite her stomach begging her for food earlier, she decided to skip her lunch and study for her next upcoming exam. Yui was an excellent student. She was known to be rather intelligent, very sporty and boosting of confidence. But above all, she was insecure and had major trust issues, hence why she is sitting alone in a library waiting for her best friend to respond to her message.

She could make more friends, after all she was not unpopular. People, especially the girls in her class and the volleyball team, which she was a part of, made continuous efforts to befriend her; all they received was curd responses and superficial small talk.

She had her green haired best friend since childhood, her little sister Rika, who was currently in a meeting with the art club, and on occasions her sister's best friend Mei. That was all she needed, at least that is what she kept telling herself.

Her head shot up once she heard the soft vibrations of her phone, the little flashing light signaling her of a new message she has received.

Full of newly born excitement, she grabbed for her phone to read the long awaited response.

From: Izu

Hey, sorry, I was with my study group for our chemistry project this week.

Where are you now?

She did not hesitate to respond with a small smile on her lips.

To: Izu

Don't worry. I'm at the library, just finished my history homework.

Do you want to meet up before class?

She was nervous again. This whole week since the new school year started, she didn't had the chance to talk to him for even a minute and, quite frankly, she missed him dearly. She couldn't deny it any longer. Things between them have changed 4 years ago when they were twelve. She remembered the times when they would meet up and see each other everyday despite not attending the same school.

But one day, they were 12 at that time, Izuku got sick and didn't show up. Yui and Rika would go to his house and ask his mother, if Izuku was alright and leave some chocolate they saved for him. His mother would always tell them with a reassuring smile he feels a little bit better every day and will come to play with them once he fully recovers. She was worried, not knowing what was happening to her first and best friend, so she made it a habit for months to go there and ask about his well being every day. And every day, for nearly 4 months, she would receive the same answers, until one day, he opened the door instead of his mother.

A smile graced Yui's lips as she remembered how she flung herself to wrap her arms around the boy, both of them tripping and falling to the ground. They started laughing with tears in their eyes, happiness floated throughout her body just because she had her best friend back.

From: Izu

Meet me outside next to the gym?

To: Izu

Sure

She pushed her books and pens into her bag carelessly and swung her backpack over her shoulders, already on her way to the exit.

Her steps echoed through the big, empty walls of the hallway, determined to reach her goal fast since she only had 15 minutes left before her next class.

No matter how hard she tried to ignore it, things had changed. They were overjoyed, when finally, after years of friendship, they were able to attend the same school.

After both of them started at UA, the weight of old memories was heavier then before. He was in class A – the prestigious class. At UA the best, most intelligent and promising students get into class A, and Izuku was one of them. Even though Yui studied hard and gave her best, she did not make it into class A.

And since then, Izuku had less and less time for her. She was happy for him, she truly was, but sometimes she couldn't help but miss her friend.

Why couldn't she befriend some of Izuku's class A friends? She wondered about that quite a lot.

There was a different aura surrounding them, something mysterious, something dangerous, but Yui couldn't explain why. It instantly piqued her interest, but class A students were always so cold, so indifferent and just hard to reach; she was an open book compared to them. Honestly, Yui was happy that, even though they apparently seemed to live in different worlds now, Izuku still valued their friendship.

Once she stepped outside of the building, she immediately spotted Izuku standing with a small group of other class A students. If the weird mysterious aura didn't give away their school status, the uniform most definitely did. The uniform of class A and the rest were slightly different. Whereas the regular UA Academy students were dressed in black and white, class A students were dressed in white and red which reflected the school crest; the white rose and the red spider lily.

Once Izuku spotted her, his face lit up a notch and he waved frantically with his right arm, even though he already had her attention.

When she started walking towards him, Izuku turned around and gave his other friends, who slowly took their leave already, a quick wave.

As she walked towards him, she didn't pay attention to her environment and hit another student on her left side. Yui was sporty, however, she still was a bit clumsy at times, and just like that, she tripped and fell to the ground, barely stopping her face to hit the pavement with her arms.

Slightly disoriented, she turned to sit on her butt and rubbed her arms.

"Watch where you're going your fucking klutz", she heard a harsh, deep voice calling out.

With a confused expression, Yui looked up, her breath stuck in her suddenly very dry throat once her eyes landed on the person she bumped into.

It was a class A student, his uniform a bit messy and loose, his heated glare directed down to her, his face scrunched in annoyance, his wild ash blonde hair sticking into all directions.

But that was not what took her by surprise, nor the fact that this was actually the first time she had any kind of interaction with a class A student besides Izuku. No, it was his intriguing crimson eyes, which should be foreign, yet felt oddly familiar as if they were imprinted somewhere deep in her memory.

"Kacchan... .s-sorry about that. Yui d-didn't mean to bump in-into you", she heard Izuku's stammering voice, clearly intimidate by the blonde's presence.

The boy in front of her huffed in annoyance and pushed his hands in the pockets of his pants.

"Of course that fucking bitch is friends with Deku. Look where your walking or piss off", he snarled at her, still with a nasty glare plastered on his face, before turning around and walking away.

"Are you okay", she heard her friend's worried voice and reached for the hand he was stretching towards her to help her back on her feet.

"Yeah, I am alright. Just my ego is bruised. I can't believe I didn't had a snarky response for that jerk", she muttered looking her freckled friend in the eyes.

He scratched the back of his head with an insecure glance towards the boy, "you better keep them for yourself. Kacchan can be very..."

"Rude?", Yui suggested, eliciting a chuckle from her best friend.

"I was going to say difficult."

"Whatever", the black haired girl mumbled before she glanced back to the blonde boy's direction, watching his retreating figure disappear into the school building. For some reason unknown, the encounter left her puzzled.

Have I met him before?

"Welcome to Tsujiri", Yui heard the sweet voice of her coworker greet the newly seated customers, a young couple, before she took their order, while the raven haired girl was preparing a caramel latte for the teenage girl at the counter.

"Thank you", the young girl smiled at her briefly.

"You're welcome. Have a good day", she smiled back before the customer left. A sigh escaped her lips before she turned away and waited for her coworker to take the couple's order.

It was not busy at all today, which was nice and relaxing for her, unfortunately, it meant that time didn't went by quickly. Yui would rather be back at the dorms, but since Izuku didn't had time and her sister was busy with an art project, she didn't had anyone to spent time with. Luckily, her boss from the coffee shop asked if she could cover last minute for one of her coworkers.

'I hope the swim team and volleyball team meets will start next week. This is so boring', she thought to herself.

"Yui, can you place a cheesecake and a strawberry shortcake on a plate please", her coworker asked her with the sweetest smile she mastered in case "cute boys" would come to the coffee shop.

"Sure Nana."

She walked around the corner to the glass cabinet where all of the cakes are neatly displayed. Nanami was a very hyperactive and cheerful college student with a huge weakness for romance and cute boys. She was always positive and able to easily make friends due to her outgoing nature. Yui liked her very much, secretly wishing that she was a little bit more like Nanami.

'Without the romantic crap of course', she thought giggling a little bit, while she was carefully placing the cakes on the white porcelain plate, decorating them with syrup, fruits and heart shaped chocolate. Usually, Yui wouldn't brother for the decoration, but Nana takes decorating very seriously.

'Of course she does.'

Her black eyes followed Nana as she was carrying a tray with cold brew coffees and the cakes to the couple at the corner. Her gaze landed on the couple, eyeing them from afar.

Growing up as an orphan, Yui never understood the concept of romance and romantic love; to Nana's dismay, it never really piqued her interest in the first place. Frankly, she didn't had time for anything but her sister, her best friend, school work and her extracurricular activities. How was she suppose to fall in love?

'Maybe I should find more friends?', she thought to herself, immediately feeling a stinging pain in her chest.

"Yui, are you listening?"

Her body jerked forward as Nana's voice finally reached her conscious mind, getting her back from reality and away from her private thoughts.

"Wow, you are dazing quit often today", she said with an almost mischievous smirk on her lips, leaning forward towards the raven haired girl so her face was right in front of her' "is it a boy?"

"Wh-what? Of course not", Yui answered a bit too fast, her mind wandering back to the encounter during lunch break. She wasn't dazing off, but she caught herself thinking about the blonde guy she bumped into earlier today quit often. He seemed familiar and it just bothered her that she couldn't figured it out.

"Then why are you blushing?", Nana dug accusingly, still with her smirk on her face.

"I was just thinking...about getting more...friends", she muttered, her voicing getting lower towards the end.

"Oh...", Nana looked surprised by that answer.

"Izuku is quite busy with him being in the A class and, well Rika is my sister and Mei her best friend, maybe... I should find more friends. But...", Yui felt ridiculous, but this feeling was nagging at her heart for a while and she had no one else to talk to, "I don't want...to betray my friendship with Izu. I don't want another...best friend."

Her gaze was fixated to the counter shyly, feeling like an idiot for being so childish, but she couldn't help the feeling of losing her best friend.

The laughter of Nana snapped her head back up.

"Oh my...I have seen you and Izuku together. Trust me, nothing can break your friendship", Nana wiped away a tear from her eye, trying to compose herself again, "it's okay to have more than one friend, you know. It doesn't mean that you don't like your other friend anymore."

Yui felt really stupid, but somehow Nana's carefree attitude was what she needed. The worry, the anxiety, it always got to her. Pretending to be perfect took a troll on her and that's why she admired Nana, who wasn't afraid of showing how she truly felt, never afraid of trusting people, never afraid of getting hurt.

"You know", Nana started, her smirk back in place, "it's also okay to have a boyfriend."

A blush crept up on Yui's cheeks, while her older coworker started laughing again.

"I-I don't think so. Dream on, girly", she countered, still with a red tint on her cheeks.

"You are so cute. I wonder what kind of boys you like", Nana ignored her and pinched her cheeks.

"None", Yui huffed in annoyance, feeling slightly embarrassed by her coworker's teasing. Almost nothing fazed Yui, but somehow the everlasting teasing of Nana felt both – embarrassing and comfortable. Nana cared for her in her own annoying way.

'Is that how it feels to have a mother?'

"Oh so you like girls?"

"What no! Shut up! I like boys", she retorted without thinking.

Nana clasped her hands together in excitement.

"Great! Then I will find a cute boy for you!"

"I am gonna die", Yui muttered completing giving up to her older coworker. This was nothing new to her; Nana did try to pair her up with customers previously, telling Yui how cute she looked in the waitress uniform and pushing her towards young customers she deemed cute enough for the younger girl. All her matchmaking plots ended up in utter embarrassment for the ravenette.

"Die of love!", Nana stated her signature carefree smile in place, pinching Yui's still flushed cheeks

"See you Nana", Yui shouted back while opening the door of the coffee shop to get out in cold street, finally escaping her coworker's evil matchmaking plots.

Outside the shop she fixed her gray hoodie, zipping it up and swinging her backpack from her shoulder to open it.

She fumbled for her phone, which was thrown carelessly into the bag before her shift. It took awhile before she found it in the chaos of her bag.

The screen flashed brightly, causing her to squint.

`Crap! It's almost ten. I'll be late´, she thought, before she threw her phone back into the depth of the bag and almost sprinted through the streets, trying to dodge everyone she passed.

She was hurrying through the streets, reaching a rather empty and remote area. Her fast steps and quick breathing echoed through the empty streets, hitting the blank and cold walls of decrepit buildings.

`Should I call Rika or Izuku? ´

She stopped in her tracks to pick her phone again, which was more difficult with her trembling fingers.

It was colder than she expected, only realizing the coldness of the night after stopping her rushed steps.

`I should have taken a thicker jacket ´, she cursed inwardly before she finally found her desired phone.

`10:08 pm! Crap! I will never make it before the curfew. ´

Hastily, she typed a message to Rika, telling her that she will be late. She was lucky to receive an exemption for the regular curfew due to her waitress job, but she didn't want to risk getting in trouble.

Just as she pushed send, a crashing sound hit her ears, piercing through the empty darkness of the streets.

`What was that´, she wondered.

Suddenly, all the worries she had about being late disappeared and left were only thoughts about this mysterious sound.

'Was someone here?'

Maybe it was just a cat who shoved an empty trashcan.

Or maybe it wasn't.

Deep down she knew it was a bad idea to search for the source of the sound, but she always had a curios nature.

She loved observing people; not only the class A students, but also her customers. She never really cared much for social interactions, yet was curious about their personalities, their lives, their stories. It was like a mystery to be solved, the unknown that always intrigued her.

"WAHHHHHHH!"

A sharp pained voice echoed through and caused her heart to skip a beat. Her eyes widened at the unmistakable inhuman scream, which was filled with despair and ache.

Her legs moved on its own accord to the source of the horrible sound.

She ran for several seconds as she heard a thud which caused her to stop.

The sound came from the alley just to her left.

She couldn't even image what sight was awaiting her, but adrenaline already ran through her body, all rationality flew away.

It was thrilling, it was wicked, but maybe if she had known what was waiting around the corner, she would have run away.

Her eyes widened, her breath was ragged, her heart pumping the blood faster, signaling her body to ran as fast as possible, but she was glued to the ground.

Shock encased her slightly trembling body, but it was not due to the lack of warmth.

No, it was the scene unfolding in front of her; a boy with ash blond her sticking to all directions, his back turned to her, standing in front of something outlining a human being, but with features of a monster. Its skin was as dark as the night and looked like it was not made of human flesh, the white in his eyes were pitch black, his yellow iris piercing the boy standing in front of him.

The boy, however, didn't move, didn't tremble at all; he simply raised his right arm and...

BOOOOMMM!

The loud echo of the explosion coursed through the empty alleyway, the pressure causing her to lose her balance and fall backwards. Her rear hit the cold hard ground, creating a thud which rang through the lonely streets.

The faint noises left from the echo of the explosion slowly died down as she started to open her eyes again.

Her breathe was caught in her throat.

Right in front of her was a grotesque black arm twitching, blood spilling uncontrollably from open wound, flowing into a deep red pool only few inches from her feet.

'Run', she tried to gain control of her body, but she was paralyzed, unable to move an inch.

Then she remembered; she wasn't alone.

Her eyes moved from the twitching arm to where the boy was standing.

As her eyes met him, she felt like the world stopped spinning.

He looked straight at her, piecing crimson eyes directed at her.

'This...This can-n't be. The b-boy from my d-dream.'

Petrified and scared. She hasn't felt that way for a long time, being the "though" one out of her tiny group of friends.

The boy seemed unfazed, not caring that he was caught killing someone, or rather something, with an explosion.

And then it hit her; he doesn't have any weapons, only his bare hands. And what is worse than that – he was wearing a red and white school uniform.

"Y-you", she stuttered.

Suddenly, the arm melted into a pool of black liquid and rapidly rushed forward, streaming between the legs of the boy and straight into a black rumbling mass that appeared out of the blue behind the boy, causing him to turn around, just to be greeted with the sight of the inhuman entity again.

`Run. Run, you damn fool! RUN! ´, her mind screamed, but she couldn't, not until the monster suddenly focused his dark malicious eyes on her.

Panic took over while she stumbled backwards, tripping over her own feet.

Hastily, she scrambled to her feet, ignoring the boy from her dream, the boy she now recognized.

`RUN!RUN!´, she told herself over and over again.

And she did.

She ran all the way back to the school with just one thought occupying her mind

Maybe if I pretend that it was a dream, nothing will change.

But no, deep down she knew, everything is about to change.

And she won't be able to hold on the the carefree past.
