Chapter 33
No One's POV
Student Council Office….
"You…?! I don't-… But why?! " exclaimed Dan after Shun told him about the incident in brief.
The Student Council members sighed at Dan's outburst. Few minutes ago, Dan had just stomped inside the Student Council room with a frown marring his face… very contrary to his cheerful demeanor and before anyone could say anything, Shun had followed the brunette inside. All their confusion dissolved when Dan told Shun to explain himself and Shun had complied. They sat quietly throughout the whole time Shun talked and they could see Dan become more and more agitated by the time Shun finished his whole explanation… in two minutes.
"I don't know… I just lost it…" Shun replied. Just by recalling her sad face, he felt his guilt doubled.
"Just because you lost it? That's it?! You sound like she isn't worth it!" exclaimed Dan, grabbing Shun's collar in anger.
"I didn't mean it! I was…" Shun said but paused looking at the floor. He didn't even try to pry off Dan's hands as the brunette continued.
"You were what, huh? You sure made it clear that time… her worth, I mean. And you know she isn't like your fan girls yet instead of defending her, you said that? You don't even care about her even a bit? You even knew what she went through because of your obsessive fans! You… You aren't the Shun I know!" Dan snapped as he let go of Shun's collar.
"I… know"
"And why the hell you don't consider her your friend?!" Dan continued. "You know, Shun… She didn't even tell us who made her cry… because it's you- my friend- Shun Kazami! Even though your words had hurt her, she was defending you all this time! Who else would do that except your friend?" he said, looking upset.
"Enough, Dan!" Runo exclaimed in anger as she walked up to him. "You know why Alice didn't tell you, right? Because she knew you'll act like this! And you call him your friend yet you can't even tell he's already feeling guilty? You're only making it worse!" she clenched her fists in anger.
"Then why hasn't he apologized yet, Runo?" Dan asked. "You should apologize when you make a mistake and accept you're wrong! I have been apologizing to you coz I know I was at fault!" he told her and now they had started yelling at each other's face.
"But you two are different! You know him, don't you?!"
"That's why I'm scolding him! It's not like him to not to apologize even after he realizes his mistake!"
"It's not like he didn't try to apologize!"
"Yeah? Well, he should try harder!"
"He must have a reason!"
"That's what I'm asking him!"
"You're just yelling at him!"
"He isn't saying anything! I haven't taped his mouth!"
"You aren't letting him speak, You IDIOT!" with that, Runo punched Dan on the face.
"…!"
The others stared at them, dumbfounded as Dan stood still with his hands covering his face after the punch. Runo was the most shocked as she stared at her fist. Shun was surprised as he glanced at Runo then at Dan. Julie, Ace and Marucho gasped in surprise. Dan let go of his face and looked up at Runo who looked back at him then at her fist, back and forth. She exhaled as she looked at Dan with narrowed eyes.
"You don't understand…" Runo told Dan. She was sure he will start whining but instead he looked at Shun.
"I expect you to clear all the things, Shun. You're lucky I didn't punch you. Don't get the wrong idea… It's just that I can't hit you 'coz we're in school" Dan stated as he turned to leave, his back towards Runo and Shun.
'Since when did he started following rules…?' Ace, Marucho and Julie thought at the same time.
"Hn…" Shun looked aside.
"And I'm not mad at you, Runo… That didn't hurt at all!" Dan said, looking over his shoulder at Runo and with that he ran off before Runo throws something at him…
Some Time later…
Service Club room
"Hmm… So that's what happened…" Keith said.
"I'm surprised by his behavior… He has never done anything like this. I mean, just few days ago we had so much fun yet he…" Dan sighed.
"Well, this isn't the first time he's being like that... when it comes to Alice"
"Huh? OWWW! Be gentle, Keith!" exclaimed Dan as he winced when Keith applied an ointment on the bruise on Dan's face where Runo had punched him.
"It's Keith-senpai to you" Keith said as continued his task. He added with a roll of his eyes, "Don't be a baby. Who hit you like this anyway? I bet it's Runo-…"
"I told you I tripped and-…"
"-…fell. Yeah-yeah. I heard you but I don't believe it"
"Oww-oww-…"
"Dan!" exclaimed Alice as soon as she opened the door to their clubroom and gasped. "What happened to your face?!" she asked with wide eyes and approached the two. "Did Runo hit you?" she questioned.
"See? I didn't even have to tell her" Keith commented causing Dan to glare at the two.
"Sorry… It's just-… It looks the same as Runo's… uh… bruise style?" Alice said, thinking.
"Bruise style…? What's that supposed to mean?! Alice, how could you?" Dan whined.
Keith was laughing by now while Alice apologized to Dan, smiling sheepishly at him. Dan faked a hurt look so Alice felt she had went a little too far with her joke.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it, Dan! I was just kidding to lighten the mood…" Alice started as she took over Keith's position and applied ointment on Dan's bruise who started grinning at her.
"Gotcha!" Dan laughed causing Alice to shake her head at him. 'At least she's smiling like before…' he thought when she smiled.
"Are you hurt anywhere else? Should we take you to the infirmary?" she asked in concern and Dan shook his head 'No' as if he was a cute little child.
"Oh, come on, Alice-chan! Stop fusing over him like a mother hen. He's not a kid" Keith cut in.
"I'm not a hen/kid!" the two exclaimed.
"Oh! You're jealous~!" Dan grinned at Keith who sent him a 'As if!' look. Alice sighed as she put the ointment back.
"Dan" Alice called the brunette's attention. "I'm sorry… I should have told you all sooner about-…" she said.
"It's fine… I know everything. I talked to him myself" Dan told her.
"What! You mean-…? Did you two fight? I should have known…! That's why your face-…"
"No, we didn't fight. Can we not talk about my face?" Dan rolled his eyes and Alice nodded. "You see, Alice… He isn't like that… There must be some misunderstanding! I mean, I had known him for- I'm not defending him, okay?" he said, scratching the back of his head.
"Dan, it's okay… And thank you" Alice smiled. "I know what you're saying but… To be honest, I don't know how I should interact with him after that. Well, he doesn't look like a person who would use people for his benefit or use violence just like that. I just don't understand him… At least the rumors have died down… And it's not like we can't talk when we're not friends, right? We can talk like we're classmates. That's what I'm doing" she said, thoughtfully.
"But I think if you two talk it out-… Fine… I understand" Dan nodded. "Just don't hide such things from your friends again" he added.
"Sorry… I won't"
"And don't try to shut us out. You know you can rely on us"
"Yes, Sir!" Alice saluted.
"Good" Dan grinned.
"Well, after all the things said and done… Does that mean he considers you something… else?" Keith asked, causing the two to look at him in confusion. 'I forgot I'm talking to dense people here…' he thought.
"Ha! That's possible… I mean, you aren't enemies that's for sure!" Dan said, scratching the back of his head, thinking.
"Hmm… true" Alice gave a thinking pose.
"Never mind… Don't waste your brain cells" Keith sighed and the two exclaimed at him, "HEY!"
"Oh! I almost forgot! Keith-senpai, you're called by the sports committee and I'm late to go to Student council room! Call me if anything comes up! See you guys later!" Alice said.
"Okay" the two boys said.
"Alice, I left my book there, bring it with you later" Dan told her. Alice nodded and left the clubroom with Keith and Dan sighed.
"Man… She hit harder this time" Dan muttered to himself. He grabbed his bag on the table while thinking, 'I'm sure I left it on the floor…'
"Dan! I think you should run before Mira-chan comes 'coz she found-…" Baron paused his rant when someone stood behind him.
"There you are, Dan! I was looking for you everywhere!" Mira stood at the door with scary smile. "Look what I found~!" she added, showing him the game she had been searching for a while now.
"Can you be anymore late, Baron?" Dan glared at Baron who smiled sheepishly.
"Baron… Were you here to alert him?" Mira shot a glare at Baron.
"N-no! Oh! I-I just remembered I have a very urgent business! See you later!"
"B-Baron! Don't leave me with her!" Dan exclaimed and gulped at Mira's dangerous smirking face who shot a glance at Baron.
Baron gulped. "I w-won't be of any help if both of our arms are b-broken… Who'll carry you…?" he shivered, hurriedly picking up his bag while Mira walked inside.
"W-What's that supposed to mean?!" Dan exclaimed when Baron left. "Let me explain, Mira! No! Spare me this time! I didn't play it! I just forgot to tell you I took it! Let me explain!" Dan's pleas were muffled when the door snapped shut after Baron.
"Sorry… my friend…"
Evening…
Kazami Residence
"I think this year fund raising event will be so exciting!" Shiori exclaimed with a smile. "I'll-… What happened?" she asked when she noticed her son's off mood as he merely nodded a 'yes' to her. "You don't look well, Shun. Did you fight? Are you hurt? Did you get rejected?" she enquired and Shun gave her a plain look at the last question.
"No. No. And no" he replied to all the questions.
"Shun, I know you aren't yourself this past few days… Are you not feeling well?" she enquired and she was suddenly by her son's side to check his temperature. "No fever…" she sighed in relief, feeling his forehead and neck.
"I'm fine, Mom" Shun sighed while Shiori took her seat beside him on the couch.
"Hmm… You know you can tell me anything if you want to talk"
"I know…" he sighed again and turned to watch the TV. His eyebrow twitched at some drama show playing on…
"Shoko… I-… I'm…"
Shun was about change the channel when…
"Oh! It's started! Don't change the channel, son!" Shiori exclaimed as she grabbed the remote from his hand and increased the volume.
"Oh! Come on, Daimonji! How hard is it to apologize?" Shiori exclaimed at the TV screen. "He's been so rude to Shoko who is such a sweet girl" she told Shun who looked surprised. Isn't this something familiar…?
"Shoko, please don't leave… I know I have been a jerk to you all this time… Please accept my apology! I'm sorry… I really am sorry"
Shun's eyebrow twitched again. He left to his room while Shiori continued watching the TV. He wasn't concerned about how he should apologize. He was upset… at himself. Dan had been right that it wasn't like him to not apologize on something like this. He had tried to talk to her but she was avoiding him. What bothered him more was… She wasn't talking or even looking at him… not even a simple eye contact. She was avoiding him to the extent he felt guilty and got pissed off at everything. She had even stopped arriving early to school. She wasn't cheerful these days and she wouldn't smile his way nor does she greet him like she used to because of himself. He shook his head to get rid of the thoughts.
'I've to talk to her. I'll just tell her why I always mess up like that when it comes to her' he thought and laid down on his bed.
'I just don't want her of all people to think wrong of me…'
Next Day…
Morning
"Yes, Grandpa! Okay… You know I'm focusing on my studies. I don't have time for such things, Grandpa! …Yes, I know! …Take care! See you soon!" Alice smiled and hung up the phone.
She hummed a soft tune as she packed her lunch box. She was feeling better after talking to Dan and Keith. She knew she can always rely on them for anything. But something was bugging her mind for a while now… And even Dan and Keith pointed it out…
"Does that mean he considers you something… else?"
"Ha! That's possible… I mean, you aren't enemies that's for sure!"
'Hmm… Not enemies… Aren't enemies… Something else… umm… Oh! Maybe he-… Nah. But he did said that I'm s-special… What am I thinking? He doesn't even like to be my friend. He even dismissed and ignored those rumors. What am I missing…?' she raked her brain for answers. She sighed as she grabbed her assignment from the table but her diary next to it fell down on the floor.
"Oh!" she bent to pick it up and blinked at the page displayed. Her eyes widened in realization…
"Ohh! Now I get it!"
