Shadystar's request to have one of the boys enter a school talent competition. (Hope you like it!)
Chapter 113: Sing It
Jason's POV
"You cannot be serious! There's no way anyone can fail PE! All you have to do is show up!"
Coach Cunningham sighed and massaged his temples before replying, "Look Wayne… You've missed fifteen days of class… in the past four months."
"What's your point?"
"You're only allowed to miss three."
"But-"
"Sorry, kid. You're gonna have to retake the class."
"Coach… I can't do that. My dad will kill me and I really want to get out of this place… I'll do anything." I pleaded.
"I would have loved to have you on the football team but it's too late for tryouts… Actually, it's too late for any team tryouts… But, my wife is in charge of the talent show-"
Shit.
"She's having a bit of trouble with participation… Maybe if you entered and won... I might give you a chance at redemption."
"And what am I supposed to do for a talent?"
"Wayne, I've heard you in the showers after practice. You're not bad."
I groaned before muttering, "Fine. I'll sign up after class."
"Great! Now about football for next year-"

"Uh… Excuse me."
The entire drama club turned and stared at me along with the drama teacher in shock.
"Jason Wayne… Are you lost? Detention is on the other side of the-" Mrs. Cunningham began before I interrupted her.
"No… I'm here to sign up for the talent show." I muttered as her eyes widened.
"Since when do you have a talent?" Tim piped up as I suddenly noticed him on the stage with the other geeks.
"I happen to be very gifted, Tim!" I snapped before I turned back to the teacher.
Wait… He has this class? Shit.
"Excuse me for a minute." I muttered before stomping over to the stage and snatching Tim off of it and dragging him outside the room.
"Jason, what are you-"
"Shut up for a minute! Look, I'm failing PE and-"
"How do you fail PE? All you have to do is show up."
"I know that! Anyway, Coach is gonna give me extra credit if I do the talent show."
"Then I hope Bruce doesn't kill you for skipping class." He huffed as I rolled my eyes.
"And since when are you a drama nerd?"
"Since always." He sniffed as the classroom door suddenly opened and that annoying and way too happy blonde that Tim has a crush on poked her head out of the door.
"Um… Mrs. Cunningham wants you to come back in and do your lines."
Of freaking course. "Yeah, yeah. He's coming."
She glared at me before vanishing back inside.
"What's your talent anyway?" Tim asked.
"Doesn't matter. You don't get to watch and you'd better not say anything to Bruce either."

"How was school today?" Bruce asked as all of us sat down for dinner.
I shrugged. Damian immediately began ranting about that little redhead he has over all the time and how his teachers are incompetent. Dick didn't even have class today because his professor was too hungover to show up. Tim began talking about everything he already knew.
"Oh and Jay signed up for the talent show."
All eyes were on me as I glared at Tim.
"You did what?" Bruce asked he slightly choked on his steak.
"Just figured I'd try something new." I shrugged.
"When is it? I'll need to have schedule cleared so I can-"
"That's not necessary! You don't have to come! Really!"
Dick's eyes lit up as he smirked, "What song will you be singing?"
"You can sing?" Damian scoffed.
"Well not all of us have the ability to attract random animals like a damn Disney princess!" I hissed before Alfred appeared out of nowhere and smacked the back of my head.
"Language, Master Jason. Should I wash your mouth out before or after I hear you sing?"
I groaned before sinking back into my chair.

I peeked around the curtain and stared at the audience… That's a lot of people. I've never sung in front of people before and I have to go last thanks to alphabetical order… Why do I feel sick all of a sudden?
"Jason, are you alright?"
I spun around to see Donna behind me.
"What are you doing here?" I squeaked.
"Dick invited me."
"Remind me to kill him and Tim later."
She rolled her eyes before taking a step closer. She kissed me softly before whispering, "Good luck."
"Thanks."
"I'm in the front row with your family and Leslie and Barbara are here also… Just relax. You'll be fine."
"Right… I… I don't think I feel so well. We should probably just go home and-" I began before she kissed me again.
"You'll be fine… You have a good voice or so I'm told."
"I've only ever sang in the shower or in the car or… for my mom."
"Don't look at the audience then… Just focus on what you're singing… Or just think about singing for your mom." she instructed before Mrs. Cunningham walked up and stared at Donna.
"How'd you get backstage?"
"Uh… Bye!"
Donna quickly escaped as I turned to the teacher.
"Are you ready?"
"As I'll ever be."

Bruce's POV
I yawned as we watched some kid trying to juggle… I swear, some of these kids are going to Arkham. Tim's drama teacher popped back onstage as the kid left. I straightened up in my seat as she announced that it was Jason's turn. Tim was already getting his camera.
I'd never seen him so nervous as he walked towards the microphone. He was sweating profusely and his breathing was fast paced… He has stage fright? Interesting. He gripped the microphone with a death grip and closed his eyes. He was trembling slightly as the music started to play.
He released the breath he'd been holding and opened his eyes before singing:
I spoke to God today, and he said that he's ashamed.
What have I become, what have I done?
I spoke to the Devil today, and he swears he's not to blame.
And I understood, cause I feel the same.
Arms wide open, I stand alone.
I'm no hero, and I'm not made of stone.
Right or wrong, I can hardly tell.
I'm on the wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side of Hell.
The wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side, righteous side of Hell.
I heard from God today, and he sounded just like me.
What have I done, and who have I become.
I saw the Devil today, and he looked a lot like me.
I looked away, I turned away!
Arms wide open, I stand alone.
I'm no hero, and I'm not made of stone.
Right or wrong, I can hardly tell.
I'm on the wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side of Hell.
The wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side, the righteous side of Hell.
I'm not defending, downward descending,
Falling further and further away!
Getting closer every day!
I'm getting closer every day, to the end.
To the end, the end, the end,
I'm getting closer every day!
Arms wide open, I stand alone.
I'm no hero, and I'm not made of stone.
Right or wrong, I can hardly tell.
I'm on the wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side of Hell.
The wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side of Hell.
The wrong side of Heaven, and the righteous side, the righteous side of Hell.
Holly shit. Jason can sing.

Jason looked incredibly relieved as Mrs. Cunningham announced Jason as the winner of the night. Everyone congratulated him as the drama teacher came over and said, "Jason, you have to play the Phantom in the upcoming production of The Phantom of the Opera! You were amazing!"
"Thanks... and I'll think abut it." Jason muttered.
I heard Tim whisper, "Wow, you can be in the school play and you don't have to worry about Bruce finding out about how you were failing PE anymore."
"You did what?"
