It's been a week since I met Clark's parents.

He may have adopted me but I don't feel ready to call him Dad yet. Maybe I will after my reunion with my wolf family.

He says that he'll take me after I meet his friends from work.

"Both jobs?"

He nods. "I've made it so you're only meeting League members who know my secret identity."

That's fair.

We head to the Planet first. It's kind of noisy but I think I'll be all right.

My hood is up, like I tend to have it around people who don't know about my ears. I am going to be around news people, I can't help but feel I should keep the fact that I'm part wolf a secret.

Wait.

There's somebody here, besides Clark, who knows about it. I'll talk to him later.

"Smallville, you adopted a kid?"

I introduce myself to some people then stare at the woman who fist spoke. "I have a name, purple eyes. It's Ember." I fight the urge to bare my teeth at her.

"I do too. I'm Lois."

I nod then avert my eyes and look around.

The person who knows about my wolf blood looks at me and gulps. "Em."

I nod and head over to him then, once I'm front of him, smile. "Yes, Jimmy, it's me. Thanks for bringing my book back. I don't know where my Mom is and I think that I found my Dad while I lived as a wolf."

He wipes his eyes then smiles and hugs me. "I really have you back. Em, I missed you so much!"

I hug him back. "Me too, Jay."

We let go to find Clark looking at us and smiling. "Anyone would think the two of you were brother and sister."

Jay laughs. "We've certainly known each other long enough to be that way. I've known Wolf Em since she was 2."

I nod. "Jay Bird met me for the first time when he was 4. My Mom has red hair so I noticed his. I think that we noticed each other's red hair at the same time actually because I pointed at his while he pointed at mine."

Jay nods. "It made us laugh at the same time too. The teacher noticed and had us sit next to each other. I may not have had the word yet but, the moment she held my hand, I knew we would be friends."

Lois smiles. "That's sweet. Is the story behind the nicknames personal?"

I shake my head. "My last name, Wolfram, means wolf-raven so I came up with the nicknames when I was 5. I chose them mainly because people would tell me I have wolf eyes and Jay's eyes made me think of where birds fly and, since a blue jay is a bird, I thought it worked. Obviously, they stock but we mostly just use Em and Jay. I thought it was kind of funny because an M looks like the first letter of my last name when it's upside down."

Jay laughs. "You were always playing with words. Do you still write?"

I bite my lip. "Not very well. Clark says I might have signs of dysgraphia. I know what I want to write but I can't seem to have it come out the way I have in my mind."

He looks at me. "Can you promise me that you'll keep trying? You could write a story about your life with wolves."

I nod. "That's actually what I have been working on."

An older man barges out of a room and looks at everyone. "Did I hear someone mention the word story?"

I wrinkle my nose, not liking the way this man smells.

Lois nods. "Smallville...Clark's adopted a feral child, Chief." She points to me as I wiggle my ears.

This "Chief" comes closer to me. "A feral kid, huh? Can you talk?"

I wrinkle my nose again. "Yes, stinky Chief, I know how to talk."

Clark and Jay stifle laughter.

I didn't know I said something funny.

Clark's P.O.V.

Ember gets interviewed, answering questions from everybody. Well, almost everybody.

I have to hold her back from attacking Steve Lombard*. Lois egging her on is not helping.

She's growling at him, partly on my behalf.

I'm not going to tell you what he said because it was kind of insulting to her, me and my parents.

Family is important to wolves so that could explain her anger.

Jimmy seems kind of angry too, though I'm not sure how much of it is on Ember's behalf or mine.

Oh, crap. She's loose.

Her limbic system, which controls emotion and motivation, leads to her being pretty impulsive.

She doesn't pounce on him on him as a wolf, thank goodness, but she does bare her teeth at him. "Don't say things like that about me and my family, you big stupid idiot. I won't have you insulting my Dad."

That's the first time she's called me Dad.

Steve's eyes widen. "You have fangs."

She sniffs. "You're afraid of them. I can smell it on you."

Wow. Her sense of smell is better than mine.

"I won't insult you or your family again. Just don't hurt me."

She covers her teeth. "You really are an idiot. Wolves aren't dangerous to humans, stupid man. I only threatened you, I wasn't going to hurt you. There is a difference but, surely, you know that much."

She walks away as Steve rubs the back of his neck. "Your kid's really something, Clarkie...I mean Clark."

My smile widens. "Thanks, Steve, but I already knew that."
