Linda shows up before we head to the Watchtower. "So do I have a wolf name yet?"
I breathe out through my nose in an effort to get rid of Perry's smell then nod. "Yours roughly translates to Sun Sister." I bite my lip, feeling that it's not very good.
She smiles and it fills me with relief. "You see me as a big sister? I like it. So where you guys headed?"
Dad points to the ceiling then floats a little, shooting his hand up.
Linda rolls her eyes. "Honestly, Kal, you could have just said the Watchtower. I'm guessing you planned it so Ember's only seen by Leaguers who already know our secret? Like it or not, I am coming with you guys."
She grins. "I can hardly wait to see how Batman will react to finding out that Ember's part wolf."
Like Linda, Dad changes into his super suit. "Prepare to be underwhelmed, Kara."
It only takes an instant before we arrive on the Watchtower.
"How high up are we?" I look out the window.
Dad smiles. "Well, that depends. Do you want the distance in miles, feet or inches?"
I think about it. "All three."
I'm tapped on the shoulder before he can answer.
I turn around to find a man in red who smiles and introduces himself as the Flash.
He reveals green eyes but it's his red hair that I see before he puts his mask back on that makes me like him.
"Twenty two thousand and three hundred miles or one hundred and seventeen million and seven hundred forty four thousand feet or one billion, four hundred and twelve million and nine hundred and twenty eight thousand inches or three billion, five hundred and eighty eight million, eight hundred and thirty seven thousand, one hundred and twenty centimeters."
Linda laughs. "Did you do the math in your head, nerd?"
He shakes his head and shows her a calculator. "Kind of wanted to impress Ember though. I like kids, especially other redheads, and now I know two*."
I look at Dad.
He rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah, they all know your name."
A woman with wings smiles then, after pointing at her red hair, introduces herself as Hawkgirl and welcomes me to the Watchtower.
I can't help but grin, wide and toothy, because I've never met two redheads at once before.
She laughs. "I like your teeth. Are you part wolf?"
I nod, not sure how I feel about her being able to figure that out so quickly, then put my hood down and tuck my hair behind my ears, feeling that there's not really a point in hiding them.
A black man who find out goes by Green Lantern seems unimpressed by my ears, leading me to guess that he's seen ones like mine before. He also seems kind of serious, unlike Flash who seems pretty friendly.
I think, like Hawkgirl, Green Lantern's seen a lot.
A kind of scary man who evidently goes by Batman touches the point of my right ear and I hear him remark, under his breath, that a wolf-human hybrid is interesting, which makes me feel kind of uncomfortable.
The last man, who apparently goes by Martian Manhunter, shifts into a wolf in front of me which makes me smile and do the same.
Soon, we shift back and look at each other.
I decide to mention the rest of my powers.
Martian Manhunter's eyes widen a fraction when, at the end, I say pyrokinesis.
I ask him if he's afraid of fire.
"You must keep yours away from me at all times."
I look at Dad. "Ember, fire is his kryptonite."
Oh.
"I can keep more than just my fire away from you. After all, it's the least I can do for a fellow shifter. Thank you for showing me your wolf form."
He smiles. "May the moon guide your way, wolf cub."
I smile and, unable to help it, decide to give him the proper response. "May the wind guide your hunt."
Will he end it properly?
He will, he just shifted into a wolf!
I do the same and, soon after, we bring our noses together then shift back.
Dad looks at me after I've shifted back. "You know, you still haven't taught me any Wolf."
Yeah, about that.
"I wanted you to keep your promise first. Not to worry, I'll keep mine too."
He raises one eyebrow.
"Dad, it's been a whole seven days." I look at him. "You owe me."
He breathes out slowly then nods. "I suppose you're right."
Soon, Linda heads off while Dad and I enter my forest.
I feel so relaxed here. Mmm.
I shift into my wolf form then use Wolf to say that I am Starlight. That I have come back.
I hear my wolf Dad answer.
He tells me to come to him. That my family is waiting.
I hear a Yes from all of them.
They're all still here!
I grin then go off to find them.
Shortly, my wolf Dad greets me with a lick and adds a Welcome home.
My wolf brothers and sisters pounce on me, all saying my wolf name.
It's so good to see them again.
My wolf Mom, Moon Glow, comes out and looks at me. Asks me, in a growl, just where I've been.
She licks me, adding gently that she thought she lost me.
I say that I've been living as a two legs.
This gets me yelps from everyone that mean What?
Bramble's sister, Briar, is the first to approach me after they've all stepped back. In a stunned voice, she asks me if I'm really a two legs.
I say to my wolf family that I am, adding that I'm part wolf and that two legs call me Ember.
My wolf Dad repeats my last word, adding that he thinks he knows that name, which causes me to feel surprise.
Could it be possible that this means what I think it does? Am I looking at, after 15 years, more than just my wolf Dad?
I feel almost hesitant, mainly because I'm thinking of new Dad, as I say my birth Dad's name use by two legs, which is Ulrich**.
His response causes my surprise to increase.
I've just been asked two questions that confirm the ones I've been thinking.
He wants to know both what happened to my mother and just where Blaze is.
All of my surprise gets added to, yet again, by what, after we've gone somewhere private, he does right before my eyes.
