King Zachary returns to Ponyville and his friends ignore him which angers him and makes him turn into the Pony of Shadows. The Mane Six, Celestia, Luna, and the Pillars banish him into his castle carpet. But the mane sixes lives aren't the same. They have to reevaluate on what went wrong. And what will happen when the banishment spell is broken? What will his friends have to say?

Pony of Shadows: It feels so good to be in this form again. I am so much more powerful when I'm in this form. Hmmm, where should I strike first? Ahhh. I know. PONYVILLE! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Twilight: I wonder where Zachary is. I haven't seen him since yesterday. Nope. That's strange. It's a Saturday. He should be at home not in Canterlot. What's this? A letter from Princess Celestia? WHAT? Starswirl says he has bad news and he wants all of our friends to be in the castle.

Starswirl: My dearest Twilight: I'm afraid that a mighty foe has returned.

None other than the Pony of Shadows.

Twilight: He was banished to Limbo after we freed Stygian.

Starswirl: It was somepony else.

Twilight: How did you know of this Starswirl?

Starswirl: I looked through my telescope and saw the King angry. He fired magic at the old castle in the Everfree Forest and turned into a shadow and disappeared.

Fluttershy: Why would Zachary be angry?

Flash Magnus: From what we believe, we think that his friends didn't care about him and therefore turned to darkness and is now the Pony of Shadows.

Rainbow Dash: Of course we care about him.

Starswirl: We must go to the Everfree forest to at least reason with him first. If not, we might have to banish him.

Rainbow Dash: So this is the Castle of Shadows. Looks pretty darn creepy to me.

Celestia: We must be careful not to get struck by lightning because what we are seeing here is very dangerous.

Luna: He is one mad pony.

Starswirl: PONY OF SHADOWS! SHOW YOURSELF AND FACE US!

Pony Of Shadows: Welcome to the Kingdom of Shadows.

Starswirl: You must return everything back to normal.

Pony of Shadows: Return everything to normal? HA NEVER! You dare to even reason with me when I am much more powerful than you? NOT A CHANCE!

Twilight: Why are you doing this?

Pony of Shadows: BECAUSE I CAN! YOU HONESTLY THINK I WOULD CARE ABOUT FRIENDSHIP WHEN YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS TURNED YOUR BACKS ON ME!

Twilight: We did not turn our backs on you.

Pony of Shadows: ENOUGH! YOU WILL ALL BOW TO ME! TRY TO STOP ME IF YOU CAN!

Starswirl: READY OPEN THE PORTAL! NOW! Twilight! Push him in!

Twilight: Huh? There's a pony in there.

King Zachary: Don't even try reasoning with me. I tried hanging out with you and your friends, but you all had something to do. So why even bother trying? You cannot fix the hole you and your friends carved into my heart.

Twilight: You can't automatically assume that just because we are busy, that we don't care about you anymore.

King Zachary: SILENCE! I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS! THE DARKNESS WILL NEVER END!

Pony of Shadows: I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS! DRAGONS! GET THEM! NO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP IT NOW! I WILL NOT LOSE! AGHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The Mane Six, Starlight, and the Pillars went back to Twilight's castle to reevaluate what went wrong. Celestia and Luna had to return to Canterlot, but told everypony that they wish the best for King Zachary.

Twilight: I don't understand what happened. The king was mad with power and he just shut everypony out. We all tried to reason with him, but he would just not listen.

Starlight: I've never seen that type of rage before. I mean literally this dude had dark crystals all over the walls, dragons were flying all over the place guarding every corner, and having lightning and thunder go off every five seconds.

Twilight: Yes, Starlight. We were all there. I'm just trying to figure out how somepony could think that his friends didn't care about him and then turn into a raging creature mad with power.

Rainbow Dash: I don't know how that creature was able to close the portal to limbo. I mean the last time we faced him, he went right in.

Twilight: Zachary isn't like the typical pony. His magic is four times the normal amount of alicorn magic. Also, he knows when things are coming. Which makes it hard to trick him. He's not one to fall for things so easily. Now that I think about it, he could be EVEN more powerful than Discord. Not even he could stand up to him. He would win easily.

Starswirl: I remember when he first started acting like that.

Twilight: What do you mean?

Starswirl: My dear Twilight the king is nearly 4,000 years old. I've known him for as long as you can imagine. Anyways, when me and the other pillars defeated the sirens, his eyes glowed red. Part of their magic had been given to him. After that, his temper was on the short end. When we sent Stygian to Limbo, we discovered that the king had not come with us because for some reason, after discovering this recently, alicorns cannot be trapped in limbo. So when we disappeared, he was stuck here in Equestria.

Twilight: Why couldn't alicorns go to limbo?

Starswirl: Something I discovered when we banished the king into his own carpet, which sounds weird by the way, he tried to use his ponyself to get you Twilight in there, fling you out through a magical explosion, and then close it. Because if he gone there, the entire universe would be unstable and be destroyed in an instant.

Twilight: Why would it be destroyed?

Starswirl: If limbo senses too much power, it naturally becomes unstable and engulfs everything. He literally has that much power. Even his parents became scared of him when he left them a long time ago.

Twilight: How did you know all of this?

Starswirl: We were best friends back a long time ago. He would tell me everything that was bothering him.

Twilight: Huh, no wonder why his parents feared him. I never imagined a male alicorn having that much power.

Starswirl: Unfortunately, this situation you six are in is the exact same one when Stygian became mad with power. It pained us when Stygian was banished. I don't know if I can say the same about you six. As for us, we must get going. We'll leave you to figure this out.

The pillars left the main six in the throne room. Soon Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash all had to leave to go do stuff leaving only Twilight in the room.

Twilight: *sighing* How can something like this happen to one of my best friends? Worse of all, where did he gain all that power?

Twilight then went out to her balcony to overlook Ponyville at night. While out there she sang to herself as if someone were listening.

Twilight: How can you see into my eyes like open doors?

Leading you down into my core, where I've become so numb

Without a soul, my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold

Meanwhile in the Castle of Shadows….

The banishment spell broke causing the Pony of Shadows to return. Twilight's love for him broke the banishment spell. He then took control of his castle again, respawned his dragons, and got the bad weather back. He then disappeared into a shadow and tried to appear to Twilight.

Pony of Shadows: OH does it feel good to be back. How dare they banish me. They should know better than that. I sensed somepony broke me free. HAHAHA! Time to go to find Twilight. HAHAHAHAHA! DRAGONS! GUARD THIS CASTLE AND MAKE SURE NOPONY TRIES TO TAKE OVER THIS! *turns into a black shadow*

Twilight: I'm just gonna go to bed. There's no point in trying to read something.

Pony of Shadows: *laughs evilly* A lost alicorn who's best friend was lost to the darkness.

Twilight: SHOW YOURSELF! I HAVE POWERFUL MAGIC YOU KNOW!

Pony of Shadows: HA SURE! ANYWAYS, WITH PLEASURE!

Twilight: No. HOW ARE YOU BACK?

Pony of Shadows: I'm back you know. You and your other friends think you can banish me. You have made a dumb mistake in thinking that. I am truly the most powerful creature in the world. HAHAHA! I sensed someone missing my presence. Therefore it broke the spell. My plan worked after all.

The Pony of Shadows then sang a song to Twilight further taunting and terrifying her.

Pony of Shadows: B-b-b-b-b-back-back-back

Cold and black inside this coffin

Twilight: NOT IF I CAN HELP IT! *fires magic blast at him*

Pony of Shadows: *deflects it*

Twilight: WHAT? HOW? THAT IS SUPPOSED TO HURT.

Pony of Shadows: Is that the best you got? Because I've seen better than that. Take this. *stomps his hoofs on the ground causing dark crystal to form and engulf Twilight in his shadow.* HAHA! I HAVE GOT YOU NOW! NOW I HAVE ALL ETERNITY TO TAKE MY REVENGE ON YOU! HAHAHAHAHA! *turns back into a black shadow*
