I'll Love You Forever
The concert stage was dark, the lights on the stage off even as the music started, a repeating peaceful melody on a keyboard of sorts as it started. However, even with the dark stage lights movement could be seen from one end of the stage as the song officially started.
"Measuring days in the spaces between our goodbyes…" A tenor voice sang into a mic clipped to his button down shirt. One of the stage spotlights slowly turned on, getting slowly brighter as he continued to sing. "Learning to wait through the endless parade, Of our same old see-you-next-time's…"
The singer could be seen now, with messy black hair and nearly blind baby blue eyes framed by black rimmed glasses, thick eyebrows, and a lean body type. He wore black slacks and a pale blue button up shirt with the collar and top button undone with the back untucked and the front tucked in in a slacker style. On his feet were black and white converse, and slung over his shoulder was a wooden guitar, beautifully hand crafted. He approached a lone chair with a mic attached to it for his guitar and sat down. Taking the guitar from over his shoulder to strum it softly in cords that he had now memorized. "But when I close my eyes, the miles melt away…" he sang while the stage was still dark everywhere but directly around him. "Like you're here in my arms at the end of the day!"
Another voice was added to Jay's, a gentle alto even as the stage slowly lit up to reveal the other singer accompanying the lone wolf singer. The audience was deathly silent, everyone's attention fixed on the other singer. "So bring me the night, send out the stars!"
"Cause when I'm dreaming we don't seem so far!" The stage was light enough for the audience to see the shorter and smaller person sitting about five feet away from Jay, her head tilted down to hide their face while their fingers flew over the delicate keys of their keyboard. She was wearing a white and yellow sleeveless dress, soft stripes accenting her much darker skin compared to Jay's fair skin. She was wearing creamy sandals on her feet, and a small hoverboard sat propped up against chair, a dead give away to her identity if her voice wasn't enough of a hint.
"Darken the sky, and light up the moon…!" Jay scooted his chair closer to the pianist, both of them singing the gentle and bittersweet song together. "So that somehow you'll be here with me soon! Bring me the night… " Jay scooted closer, making them only three feet apart.
"Bring me the night…" he scooted closer once again, making them two feet apart.
"That brings me to you…" The pianist sung the line by herself, Jay falling silent only for them to switch roles for the next bit and the stage's lights to finish lighting up the stage completely.
"You…" Jay sang and scooted the last foot, making them sitting directly next to the singer hiding her face from view of the cameras. The screens were focused on the pair of them, Jay and the female pianist singing next to him.
Slowly the pianist tilted her head up through the next line of the song, beautifully curled naturally curly dark brown hair, and smaller more refined features slowly emerged. "Swear I don't know if the days are as slow as they seem." She sang the song softly, her voice holding the faint foreign accent of her birth country of Vyliea instead of Ruxburg. Her amber eyes were revealed, sparkling with life, along with her small button nose, low cheekbones, tapered chin, and pink lips currently singing softly.
"Wondering when you'll be with me again and this," Her YouTube name appeared below her name on the screens, Cheerful Curiosity. Jay's partner was his now girlfriend Breanna Grayas, a singer of her own.
"Finally can be more than just a dream…" She brushed a curl out of her eyes and her volume increased as she went on. "But when I close my eyes, I want only to stay…" She sang softly and Jay shifted his position to be leaning back slightly on her shoulder, bending one leg at the knee and resting his foot on the edge of his chair. They looked comfortable up there, together, at each other's side. "Where the farthest you are is a heartbeat away…!"
"So bring me the night, send out the stars!" Jay joined back in, their voices mixing and carrying together as they raised them together. "Cause when I'm dreaming we don't seem so far! Darken the sky, and light up the moon…" Bree shut her eyes while Jay's blue eyes moved toward where he knew she was, looking at her hands move across the keyboard out of the corner of his eye. "So that somehow you'll be here with me soon. Bring me the night…" They repeated the phrase together once again, slowly increasing in volume. "Bring me the night…"
"That brings me to you…" Jay sang, Bree dropping out only for him to go quiet and Bree to sing the next line herself.
"And it's enough, knowing you," Bree sang strongly and sang her next line seconds after Jay's.
"I know that you're," Jay sang the moment her line ended.
"are calling to me," Bree came back in seconds after Jay and sang the next .
"While we're dreaming beneath the same moon!"
"All it takes," Jay sang alone, his voice dropping to a lower volume as Bree joined him again.
"Is imagining you so that I can get through, one more long and lonely day…"
"So bring the night, tell me it's near," Jay sang softly and Bree temporarily stopped her keyboard, "give me the chance to to pretend that you're here,"
"Darken the sky and light up the moon," Bree sang, her voice steadily increasing in volume and a passion for the song she was singing, "please bring it soon-"
"-bring it soon…!" Jay finished before they plowed into the chorus, together. Bree's eyes opened and she looked over at him. Causing Jay to sling the guitar over his back and stand up as he sang, offering Bree a hand. Bree took it right away and stepped out from behind the keyboard, only to have the usually grumpy and moody young adult rest his hands on her waist and pull her into a dance.
"So bring me the night, send out the stars!" They sang together as Jay led her in a short and simple but also elegant box step waltz, Bree's arms looped loosely around his neck. "'Cause when I'm dreaming we don't seem so far!"
"Darken the sky, and light up the moon!" Jay lifted Bree up, spinning in a circle as they sang together, "so that somehow you'll be here with me soon!" He set her back down and they continued the simple box step, their movements slowing as the song slowed down as well. "Bring me the night… Bring me the night…" They slowed to a stop, Jay fixing his unseeing gaze on Bree's face, "Bring me the night… Bring me the night…" Jay then pulled a beautiful white lily from somewhere unseen and tucked it behind Bree's left ear as they sang the last note in matching soft and tender tones of voice.
"That brings me to you…"
Jay then grasped both sides of Bree's face and pressed his lips to Bree's right cheek as the music faded to silence. Causing the miraculously semi quiet audience to break into cheers.
"Encore!"
"Encore!"
They then both turned and faced the audience. Bree was now giggling amber eyes twinkling fondly while Jay casually stuck his free hand, the one not holding Bree's, into his pocket with the thumb sticking out after adjusting his glasses, and rolled his eyes.
The lights of the stadium lit up in select areas and Jay cleared his throat before he spoke up through his mic.
"Unfortunately we don't have an encore for our duet song today," Jay explained, the audience quieting down to hear what he was saying. "Mainly because this is a special performance and even CheerfulCuriosity doesn't know what it's for just yet." He released Bree's hand and paced to one side, his back to Bree, "all of my fans know that I, PerfectGrumpyTone don't write duets. Whenever I do a duet with CheerfulCuriosity it's usually written by her, because frankly I can't come up with lyrics that would work with my awkward voice next to this angel's voice." He gestured to Bree who blushed at the compliment before he rubbed just beneath his nose, still having his back to Bree who was looking really confused. "However… I wrote this, and never told her what it was really for." He looked over at the completely confused singer over his shoulder, turned on his heel and walked back to her in a few strides, pulling something out of his pocket in the process.
The audience screens zoomed in on the object, revealing a small black jewelry box.
Bree's eyes widened and she stared at Jay as he knelt down on one knee and spoke, forcing himself to remain confident even as his hands shook slightly. "Breanna Grayas, CheerfulCuriosity, my best friend, girlfriend, and my everything, I've been putting this off for months, looking for the perfect moment. Only to finally decide I had to make the perfect moment instead, so after a lot of planning this is the results." He took a deep breath and spoke confidently, even though people near them could see the nervousness on his face and the tears welling in Bree's amber eyes. "I've known you since we were kids, we grew up together, the quiet loner and the social butterfly with no fears. Then you became paralyzed, and for eleven years you remained happy in a wheelchair unable to move or use your legs, where I watched you grow from this bubbly girl I knew to the most beautiful woman I had ever met and seen. When we were nineteen I managed to gather the courage to ask you out, afraid of you rejecting me to the point where I had asked my brother of all people for help. And you of all people how terrible Leon is with girls besides Cynthia."
Bree giggled through the tears trickling down her cheeks and Jay smiled gently up at her, his blue eyes soft and loving.
"Clearly I did something right cause we've been together for six years, but I've finally gathered the courage to ask you to go to the next step with me." He looked up at Bree and finally opened the small box, where a gold and diamond engagement ring lay nestled inside on it's velvet cushion. His voice dropped to a whisper, able to be heard through the mic connected to his shirt. "Breanna Bailey Grayas," his voice cracked with emotion, "will you marry me?"
Bree couldn't speak, instead she just nodded repeatedly and threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and burying her face into his chest.
Jay rested on hand on her back while the audience cheered, even louder than earlier. He was trembling , from nerves or something else he didn't know, but either way he spoke into his mic once again. "I never said we didn't have another song planned for an exit Encore," he then gestured to his left, "I brought some friends with me, many of you will even recognize them in a heartbeat."
Music started up again, techno style music, closer to what Jay usually wrote.
"Welcome my newly wed brother and sister-in-law, and my sister to the stage!" Jay shouted before he wrapped his other arm around the practically sobbing Bree and trembling with her. Letting his siblings and sister-in-law handle the crowd.
"Taste the air, I know a storm is coming, Can't be scared this time…" A familiar blonde emerged from the back curtains, his usual cocky smile on his face as he sang. "Made a vow, I'd dare the clouds to…" His name appeared on the screens as well, Vandalan Basketball player, Leonardo Bramble, and the blonde was wearing a white button down shirt and black slacks like Jay. However, three of the buttons of his shirt were left undone and he had a dark blue tie slung around his neck like a towel. Held in his left hand was a standard mic and he held a blue rose in the other, "open up the sky, open up the sky…" he sang and ran a hand through his spiky hair as another voice came through the speaker system. This one was a girl's, a high alto with an distinct Vandalan accent, sparkling almond shaped blue eyes, long black hair pulled up into a slightly messy bun, freckled skin, and easily defined features. Beside her emerged a woman about Bree's age with fair skin like Jay, was shorter than both the other two, had bright green eyes, a mic held in her hands and wore an elegant thin strapped forest green dress that touched the top of her sandals.
"Catch my breath, could run for cover, but there's nowhere left to hide…" Cynthia was wearing a strapless dark blue dress, the back was longer than the front and had a slit going part way up the left side of the dress flashing a few inches or so of her skin above her knees every time she moved. On her feet were silver heeled sandals, silver hoop earrings were in her ears and the celebrity was wearing a light red lipstick. She had an earpiece mic in one ear and had her hands completely free. Clearly she was having fun with the style of the song, teasing her new husband and likely making it hard for him to focus properly. "Here it comes, the thunder drums," she walked in front of Leon, lightly dragging her fingers down his tie as she passed him, "I have to let the heavens divide!"
"I can't keep the rain from coming down!" Leon sang alone, grasping Cynthia's hand as she passed and spun her into a twirl toward him, "I've tried to explain away what I'm feeling now!" He sang and dipped her briefly
"I won't be the one who never tried!" Cynthia sang as Leon pulled her up and out of the dip, leaving her nose to nose with him with her heels for a few seconds before he spun her again, but this time away from him, "So open up the sky, open up the sky, open up the sky!"
"I can't keep the rain from coming down," Leon and Cynthia sang together, each punching a fist into the air and stomping one foot to the drum beat as they spun around. "I've tried to explain away what I'm feeling now!" Cynthia and Leon both clapped together, "I won't be the one who never tried!" Jay gently had Bree release him and he went over to Leon and Cynthia while Holly moved over to Bree, giving her a one armed hug and a soft smile..
"So open up the sky, open up the sky, open up the sky!" Leon sang
"So open up the sky…" Jay echoed his younger brother who grinned at him before Cynthia started her verse of the song.
"Soak my skin.. I've spent too long behind," Cynthia sang, brushing against Leon's shoulder as she walked around him, "my window, scared to choose…" Holly echoed her and Cynthia reached up and briefly ran her fingers through Leon's hair, her face held close to his as she sang her next line. "But this is real, and what it feels like, with nothing left to lose, nothing left to lose!"
"So let it pour…" Leon watched Cynthia move away from him and took a few steps forward, his amber eyes cheeky and as arrogant and usual when on the stage, "and flood the floors so I can start again tonight…"
"Start again…" Jay and Holly echoed together, the former moving into stand facing the audience.
"Oh, yesterday is washed away," Leon sang and strutted after Cynthia, grasping her by the waist and raising his arm up toward the ceiling in time with the beat of the song.
"I've never seen the heavens so bright!" He spun Cynthia a few times before dipping her again as she sang her part.
"I can't keep the rain from coming down! I've tried to explain away what I'm feeling now!"
"I won't be the one who never tried!" Leon sang strongly and pulled Cynthia up and out of the dip before they separated and broke into the chorus, Jay and Holly joining in as well. Cynthia, Leon, and Jay performing the dance with the chorus.
"Audience members please quietly begin to leave the performance center, the show's wrapping up and PerfectGrumpyTone has requested all audience members leave before the song ends."
"So open up the sky, open up the sky, open up the sky!"
"I can't keep the rain from coming down!" All four of them sang, those performing the dance were pumping their fists into the air and stomping the opposite foot in time with the drum beat and clapping once after every stanza.
The audience was loving it, especially as Bree joined them as well, Holly having told her what they were doing. "I've tried to explain away what I'm feeling now! I won't be the one who never tried! So open up the sky, open up the sky, open up the sky…" All four of them trailed off, leaving Holly to echo the last part of the stanza.
"So open up the sky…"
"Let it pour," Leon started the phrase, Cynthia echoed it and Jay and Holly echoed the last part and they all repeated the phase again in the same way. "Let it pour…"
"I can't keep the rain from coming down," Leon sang softly, lightly grasping Cynthia's hand for a brief moment, the one with her new wedding band. "I've tried to explain away what I'm feeling now-"
Cynthia, joined back in, "I won't be the one who never tried… So open the sky! So open the sky!" They broke into the chorus and dance once again, watching as the audience reluctantly filed out slowly but surely.
"I can't keep the rain from coming down! I've tried to explain away what I'm feeling now! I won't be the one who never tried! So open up the sky, open up the sky, open up the sky…"
