Just a little fluff. Set sometime after Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Make
She was stirring her mug of coffee, thinking, when he came up behind her. She startled as his arms slid around her waist and he nuzzled her neck.
"Jack, don't do that." she laughed as she turned to face him. "You know I can't hear you coming."
"I can't help myself." was his reply.
There was a fire in his eyes.
She turned back to finish what she was doing and he saw his chance. Tightening his arms around her waist, he leaned in and softly kissed her neck.
Smiling with pleasure, she let out a soft moan and moved slightly so that he had better access to the soft area between her neck and shoulder.
But he smiled against her skin then pulled away, a smirk pulling at his mouth.
She turned to him, her eyes asking why he stopped.
"I love the cute little sound you make when I do this." He leaned in again and kissed the soft spot which turned her to jelly.
Again, she made that beautiful noise.
The sound was enough to undo him. It was his turn to make a noise; a deep guttural groan which vibrated on to her skin.
Turning her around in his arms his lips met hers.
Her arms made their way up around his shoulders and she pulled him closer.
She was pressed up against the kitchen counter, her fingers playing with the dark hair on the back of his neck before slowly trailing to his chest. Her fingers then danced across the front of his shirt, his chest solid beneath her hands.
His mouth was hot against hers. kissing her tenderly but with a deep passion she'd never felt before. Not until Jack.
She slowly started to undo the top button on his shirt.
His thumb slipped under the hem of her shirt and caressed she skin on her hips.
Then the next button...
He growled again...
The next button...
His kissing became harder.
She ripped open the rest of his shirt...
"What?" asks Lucy. "You had a sex dream about Jack?"
They walked in to the quiet bull pen, luckily nobody was in yet, it was still early.
Sue had awoke earlier that morning, after the heated dream, in state of shock. She's never had that kind of dream before. At least not one that felt so real. Or so right.
Sue rolled her eyes. "Will you keep your voice down. And no, it wasn't a sex dream. It was just..."
"A sex dream!" stated Lucy.
"Lucy, it ended before anything happened. I ripped open his shirt and then I woke up."
"You ripped open his shirt?"
"I would never do that though, it's tacky."
"You would with Jack though..."
"Lucy!" warned Sue.
Lucy was grinning like a Cheshire cat. "Ok, so what else happened?"
"I really don't want to talk about this." said Sue, looking extremely sheepish.
"I do. I need details."
"Is this what it's like to have girlfiends in twelfth grade? All secrets must be shared?"
"Yes. We're making up for lost time. Come on, Sue. Tell me."
Sue sighed and looked around.
"You cannot ever mention this again."
"Deal."
"Well, from what I can remember, it's hazy now, Me and Jack were... together. A nice house. Must've been married."
"What?" asked Lucy, sounding like a thirteen year old girl getting all the gossip from her friends.
The office was still quiet but people were starting to walk past to their own areas.
Jack was just finishing up a call and about to enter the bull pen when he heard them talking.
Sue lowered her voice. "Anyway, I was in the kitchen making a coffee and he came up behind me. His arms slid around my waist and he kissed my neck."
Jack froze just before the doorway. Sadness tugged at him. She's met someone? He swallowed the lump which had formed in his throat and was about to step in to the room again when he heard his name mentioned.
"Jack kissed your neck?"
He started by the door and froze again.
"Lucy, it was a dream."
"Sounds like a good dream. Then what happened?"
"I've already told you."
"No, you told me when you woke up. I said I need details."
Sue moans. "You are so frustrating, Luce"
She shakes her head and continues, still unaware that that Jack is listening in.
"That's about it. He kissed my neck again, saying something about me making a cute little noise when he did. Then it got heated, I ripped open his shirt and I woke up. In shock I might add."
Lucy's excitement was shining through her and Sue knew that this would not be then end of the conversation.
"Well, you know what they say, 'A dream is a wish your heart makes'".
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Sue was flushed now.
Lucy just beamed at her. "Sure you don't."
Just as she was about to speak again Jack walked in, a huge boyish grin across his face. "Morning ladies."
Sue swallowed and cleared her throat.
"You're happy this morning." she smiled, almost sounding normal.
"What's not to be happy about?" he asked, looking only at her. "It's a beautiful day. I've heard something good this morning. And I didn't have to wait inline for a coffee. Today is a good day."
"Care to share your news?" asked Lucy, the gossiper.
He looked at Sue and smiled a little.
She froze under his stare.
He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by the rest of the team filtering in.
Everyone said the Good Mornings and aimed for the coffee machine as Dee started to pass out the days assignments.
Sue aimed for her desk, to get away from Lucy's questions and Jack's following eyes.
She swallowed hard and started to read through the hand outs.
It was a long day. All of the guys were out whilst Tara, Lucy and Sue were stuck in the boardroom going though boxes and boxes of paperwork. It was going to take all day, maybe even two. They had a list of names, dates and account numbers, amongst other details and they had to read through every piece of paperwork and pull out the pages with anything relating to the lists. Luckily, Lucy didn't broach the subject again, she was deep into her work.
They read through box after box, some of which had been submerged in water, leaving their contents useless and Tara was collecting the damaged papers to see if she could work her magic on them.
After lunch the guys arrived back at the office and Jack stuck his head in the room and called for Lucy and Tara.
"Sorry Sue, I need them." he said apologetically as the girls filtered out. "You had lunch?"
"Not yet."
"I'm off out for a coffee and a sandwich if you care to join me?" he asked, his eyes smiling.
She really wanted some food but she wasn't sure she could cope being with him. Her dream had played on a loop in her mind all morning. His hands on her body. His mouth on her neck. It was distracting her to the point of having to go through the boxes twice to pull out the papers she'd missed the first time around.
She swallowed and tried to smile but it didn't quite reach her eyes.
"No thank you. I'd like to get through as much as I can, I'd rather not spend the day in here again tomorrow."
His eyes darkened a shade, hurt maybe.
"You can bring me back a coffee?" she said softly.
"OK."
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of coffee and paperwork. She took an hour out to walk Levi and to sit in the bull pen for a briefing on the case but then went back to the files. She still went through each box twice and still found more details each time. The girls came in a few times to make sure she was alright but they had their own work to do now and they guys were back out on the streets.
It was after 5pm when Lucy popped her head in.
Levi sat up and rested his head in Sue's lap, alerting her of Lucy's presence. She looked up and smiled.
"You ready for home?"
She looked around at all the boxes and shook her head.
"Not yet. I think I'll stay a while longer."
"You haven't eaten today, you need to eat."
"I'll grab something the way home. I won't be long, I promise."
"OK. I'll see you at home." she smiled and left.
She went back to the files.
Leafing through page after page of emails, documents, bank statement and receipts she could feel her eyes getting heavy and a headache pulsing behind her temples.
Last file for today. She thought.
As she struggled to focus on the papers she was flipping through her eyes began to close again...
They were lying tangled in the soft bed sheets in the afterglow of sex.
Chests heaving and their bodies slick with sweat.
They didn't talk; didn't need to. Their eyes were saying all that could be said.
He was smiling at her, pure love shone in his eyes.
It took her breath away.
She reached across and kissed him. Slowly.
But then his hands were exploring her body as his mouth caressed hers.
He was above her.
Naked on top of her.
He Growled as she arched for him.
She moaned his name...
"Jack." She awoke with a start calling his name softly.
He was kneeling in front of her and she shrunk back in her seat, breathless.
He'd woken her up, his hand was lightly on her arm.
He was smiling. She'd called his name before she awoke...
She was on fire under his touch.
It took her a few moments to pull herself together.
"Sorry." he signed and whispered. "I didn't mean to startle you."
She blinked to clear her eyes and focus.
"It's getting late, I thought you'd left hours ago. Good job I checked." he smiled.
She looked at her watch and sighed. It was after 7pm.
"You OK?" he signed to her.
She nodded her head and started to pick up her things. Levi sat to attention by her side.
A blush rose up her cheeks but whether from her dream or Jack waking her she was unsure.
As she stood up quickly she felt a wave of dizziness overcome her. She felt herself falling.
But she fell into Jack's arms. His arms wrapped around her waist and her hand flew to his chest as she steadied herself.
"Woah...Hey. Come on, sit back down." he guided her back down into the chair.
She was shaking. Taking a few deep breaths before looking up at him.
"You haven't eaten today, have you? You've hit the caffeine hard with no food. You need to eat, Sue."
All she could do was nod her head.
After a long few moments he guided her up and they headed out, his arm held gently at her back.
On their way into the office the next morning, after a good night sleep without any dreams, Sue was rolling her eyes at Lucy as she again started asking questions.
It was late when she arrive home the night before. Jack had bought her dinner and walked her home. It was a nice night but Sue had been very quiet.
Her dreams causing confusion and unsettlement.
She'd wanted to talk it all through with Lucy but she was in bed by the time Sue arrived home. So they had to talk on the way to work.
"You had another dream?" asks Lucy smiling with delight.
Sue nodded.
"Jack woke me up."
"In your dream?"
She shook her head and winced. "No, in the board room. After you left last night I must've fallen asleep."
"Nooo... What happened? In the dream I mean."
Sue sighed, agitated.
"You know, you were that annoying friend, weren't you? Like an itch that can be scratched." she laughs.
"I am. And the more you deflect the worse I get. What happened? How far did you go this time.?"
The doors to the elevator open and they step out as Tara is walking past.
"All the way." she swallows. "Twice."
"Noooo?" Lucy is giddy with lust on Sue's behalf. She's glowing with the details of her dreams
"Hey..." Tara smiles to both of them. "Whats going on?"
"Oh nothing." says Lucy. "Just Sue has an itch that needs to scratching."
"Lucy!" scolds Sue.
They stand in silence for a moment.
Lucy grinning.
Tara confused.
Sue flushing bright red.
"Urrmmm... Am I missing something?" asks Tara.
"Yes."
"No."
They walk on for a long moment in silence.
Lucy wasn't expecting anyone in their office. As they're approaching the door she turns to Tara. "Sue keeps having erotic dreams about Jack."
The world stops turning.
A lot of things seems to happen at once.
Lucy gasps and her hand flies up to cover her mouth.
Jack, who's sitting at his desk, spits a mouthful of coffee over his computer.
Bobby, Myles and Dee enter the room from the other side and freeze just in the door way, amusement bright across their faces.
"Lucy!" Sue thinks she might collapse of embarrassment as she scolds her.
There's a long, long, pause where Sue prays for the ground to swallow her up.
Jack is trying to clean up his desk but he's watching her, a quizzical smile across his face.
"I'm never telling you anything again." she grumbles to her best friend.
Lucy just smiles. She knows Sue will see the funny side, eventually.
The guys are just standing there smiling.
"Well, you know what they say..." says Tara quietly, trying to break the ice. "A Dream is a..."
"Tara." Sue now scolds.
She's in for some teasing. She knows it.
They stand in silence, all eyes burning in to Sue whilst she busies herself petting Levi and unclipping his leash.
The guys continue into the room.
Myles's voice broke the silence. "Who would've thought, our sweet and innocent Sue..."
Luckily, Dee clears his throat and everyone turns to him so he can hand out assignments. He smiles at her, knowing he's saved her from the wolves.
Jack's eyes are still on her.
"OK, guys. Listen up. Tara and Lucy, I need you to find out everything you can on a Derek Parsons." he handed them each a piece of paper. "I want to know everything about him, his family life to how he takes his coffee." He turns to Myles and Bobby and hands them some papers. "I need you to go to his work place to see what you can find out about him." he then turns to Sue, his eyes full of apologies. "I need you and Jack to go talk to his wife and children to see what they can tell you about him and his movements the past couple of weeks. Some of the papers we found yesterday are extremely curious and we have a lot of questions."
Sue nods her head and mover to her desk to read the hand outs. She looks at nobody for a long time as she reads the pages, one after another.
Finally looking up to Dee. "Wow, he's been working hard."
He smiles in return.
Then Jack makes his way over to her, smiling.
Her heart flutters and she looks at him embarrassed.
"You ready to go?"
Nodding her head, she collects her things and follows Jack out, shooting Lucy an evil look as she leaves.
She can just imagine their conversations with her gone.
The car ride out to the suburbs was quiet. She made no effort to talk or even look towards Jack. But she could feel it every time he looked at her. She could feel his smile. She kept her eyes straight ahead, taking in the sites and watching the traffic. Her embarrassment was slowly burning out and she pulled out her blackberry to message Lucy.
Please tell me you didn't give them the details. She sent to her.
Of course I didn't.
So, what did you say?
You're my best friend, Sue. I ended the conversation. They may have come up with their own ideas though... I'm so sorry.
It's OK.
Have you said anything to Jack?
No. I haven't even looked at him.
Oh come on. They were only dreams. I think he'll be flattered...
She didn't reply to that last message. Instead, she pocketed her phone and looked up as they pulled to a stop outside a lovey red brick house.
Jack caught her attention.
"You OK?" He signed.
She smiled. "I'm OK. And I'm sorry for what you heard..."
A boyish grin returned to his face and she swallowed.
"So... You have been having erotic dreams about me?"
She sighed but kept her smile, knowing he was about to tease her.
"OK, ask away." She allowed him.
He watched her for a long moment before reeling off a load of questions.
"Did you enjoy them? Did you like what you saw? Was I any good? How far did we go?" his voice was husky, luckily she couldn't hear him.
He laughed.
Her eyes widened and she looked away, embarrassed again.
He smiled. "Come on." he cocked his head motioning her to get out of the car.
The rest of the day passed quickly and free of dream talk. They'd stopped for lunch at a small coffee shop and walked Levi around a park before heading out to their next leads to find the daughters and family friends of Derek Parsons. But they learned absolutely nothing of importance. From everything they'd heard, he was the perfect family man. Not a bad word was said about him.
It was late when they headed back towards home.
Jack pulled the car to a stop outside of Sue's apartment building and turned off the ignition.
Turning to look at her, "Can I buy you dinner?"
"Sorry, Jack. We've been out all day and I need to feed Levi. Rain check?"
"Deal." he smiles.
He got out of the car and walked around to open her door and to let Levi out. The dog jumped down wagging his tail and stretching his hind legs as Jack scratched the top of his head.
He walked them up to the doors of the building.
"Good night." he signed and whispered. "Sweet dreams, Sue."
His mouth twitched.
She had a glint in her eyes.
She leaned in and kissed his cheek. Her mouth lingered there and she whispered "In answer to your earlier question. Yes. And all the way. Twice."
Pulling away she smiled.
He swallowed and reached out for her arm but she ducked past him and pulled open the door.
Turning to look over her shoulder she found his face, his eyes full of fire like in her dreams.
She smiled.
"Sweet dreams, Sparky."
Then she left him gaping on the sidewalk.
The End.
