Chapter 2:
When I woke up the next morning, I smiled and yawned awake, seeing that Roll had already woke up and I was in the house on my own. Though I did note it wasn't as hot as before, mainly because it was the morning instead of late day. "Time to see if Roll has any good news," I smirked as I went outside and Roll looked to be excited.
"Hey, Cher! We got our Rescue Team Starter Kit! It contains everything that we'll need to be a rescue team," Roll smirked as she presented a kit that contained a toolbox, a duo of badges, a couple special neckerchiefs, and a copy of a newspaper. "The badge is what symbolizes our status as a Rescue Team and it can actually become different if we rank up in terms of how well we do. Then the Toolbox, which is what holds our items that we use in dungeons as well as holding items that we find in them. We can put the items Butterfree gave us in there," Roll smiled at me.
"And I can see that this newspaper is for Rescue Teams specifically and I'm guessing the neckerchiefs are special as well?" I asked with a smile.
"Right, these special neckerchiefs have special powers to them. These are Twist Bands, which make it so that, if a Pokemon were to try to lower our power, defense, evasion, and/or speed, we'll be completely unaffected. Basically, the only kind of way we'd lose power is if a move we use causes that," Roll explained.
"Sounds pretty useful! Okay, did anything else come in the mail?" I asked, Roll sighing and shaking... her whole body no. Mostly because her entire body was her head.
"Sorry, we only just started, so it's highly unlikely anyone has heard of us yet," Roll said with a small smile... but then we saw a Pelipper appear and it placed some mail into our mailbox, which was pretty cute. I then went to it and picked out the mail with my stubby arms. I guess I was just lucky that the letters were easily opened by simply peeling off a small sticker. "What does it say?" Roll asked as I then started to read it and simply smiled as I decided to get into character with the words written.
"Bzzt Bzzt! Rescue Team Snowfleece, I have heard about you from Caterpie. Bzzt Bzzt! We need help! Magnemite is in trouble! A strange electromagnetic wave came from a cave, Bzzt. And stuck together our two Magnemite friends! Two isn't enough to form a Magneton, so they really need help. Please! Bzzt! From, Magnemite's Friend," I read the note in a robotic voice, Roll smirking at me when I did that.
"Okay, that was pretty funny how you read it. So, we're going to help them, right?" Roll asked.
"Of course we are. It's our first official job! No way we're gonna turn them down!" I smirked widely.
"That's the spirit! Okay, let's head off to the location they listed... according to the letter, we need to get to Thunderwave Cave to the north of here. Let's do our best, Cher!" Roll smirked. We then did a small cheering pose before rushing off down the road to the area in question, the hike taking roughly twenty minutes until we got to the area in question. There, we saw two other Magnemite that were waiting a safe distance away from the cave. "Bzzt! Oh, are you Team Snowfleece? Bzzt?" one of the Magnemite asked, them not sounding robotic, just having their bodies do a little zapping noise before they spoke.
"Yes, we are. So where are your friends at?" I asked.
"Bzzt! They're on the last floor of this place, which is floor 6. We'd be very grateful if you can save them. Bzzt!" the other one said.
"Don't worry, they'll be safe in no time," Roll smiled as we then went into the cave and... something very odd happened when I got inside of the cave. I felt some kind of current try to connect to me, which I had a feeling was due to me being an electric type and the place being called Thunderwave Cave. And when it happened, I gasped as a memory came flooding back!
I was in a strange field of grass and I looked to be in my human form, which looked very adorable as well as looking to be a teenager of 18 years old. And I was being asked questions by a strange apparition that was in front of me.
"You see a fork in the road, along with a sign that says treasure is on the right path. Which do you choose?" asked a very calm, serene voice from the apparition... but I couldn't see it at all. All I could see was a bright light of green... all I could make out was that it was a strangely feminine shape.
"I'd simply flip a coin to decide. Heads for left, tails for right. I'm not one to believe in everything I see. There's always something more to the story," I smiled.
"Haha, well spoken," the apparition smiled. "A human hand extends out of a toilet. What do you do?"
"Depends if it was fake or real," I said.
"Again, very thoughtful... but it's a real hand," the apparition giggled.
"Then I'd simply grab onto it and pull, hoping to find out what it was connected to... then I'd take a picture," I smirked. And the apparition laughed adorably at that.
"You're truthful, which makes it funny," she smiled. "Anyways, it's obvious that you are a multitude of different personalities. You are brave, quirky, jolly, and sassy. Honestly, all of these traits that you have only proves my point that you are the perfect candidate to save our world... as for what you shall be, you will be a Mareep," the apparition said, me only then gasping at that. This apparition was the one that turned me into a Mareep... and I did it willingly! "Now, just so you are aware, you will start out with all of your memories lost to you. But as you continue on your quest, you will regain your memory slowly but surely. Are you ready, Cher?" the apparition asked.
"Yes... I'm ready... Gardevoir..." I said with a small, bashful smile, me only then knowing the name of the apparition was a Gardevoir, a Pokemon. And I then had a bright light happen and I then gasped awake back into reality.
"Cher? Are you okay?" Roll asked me as I shook my head back and forth and looked at her in surprise, seeing that the scenery had changed. "You kind of zoned out and looked to go on auto-pilot for a bit. We're on floor 5 already. Do you remember anything?" Roll asked, me smiling at her happily.
"Yes, I do... I remember just how I got turned from human to Pokemon," I said, Roll gasping at that.
"I knew it! I knew that being on this Rescue Team would help you regain your memories! You gotta tell me all about it on the way back," Roll smirked as I saw we had made it to the next flight of stairs, me nodding at her as we then went down the stairs and found the duo of Magnemite being joined to each other and them looking to be in pain.
"Okay, don't worry, guys, we're here to help... now the big question. How to separate you?" I asked.
"Bzzt! You're an electric type, right? Just approach us and disconnect us with your arms and it'll diffuse us! Bzzt!" the one Magnemite said, me going over and doing just that, me feeling their electricity enter me, but nothing happened at all. And after a bit of prying, I managed to disconnect them and Roll then used her Team Badge and we all exited the dungeon together back at the entrance, right by the other two Magnemite.
"Bzzt! YAY! WE'RE SAVED! BZZT" the one on the left exclaimed happily.
"Bzzt! Yahoo! Thank you! Bzzt!" the other one said happily.
"Bzzt! You are our heroes! Please, take these as a reward! Bzzt!" the one friend of the quartet of Magnemite smiled as he then gave us some money, a seed, and a special drink that looked pretty cool. "Bzzt! We'll be off now. Don't worry, Team Snowfleece, we shall spread word of your heroic deeds! Bzzt!" he smiled again as they then went on their way and me and Roll smiled at each other happily.
"Okay, now I'll explain what happened in my memory on the way back, Roll," I smiled at her as we then walked our way back to the house and I began to explain. "So, in my memory, I was a human and I was in some kind of an interview with an apparition of a Pokemon called Gardevoir," I explained.
"Gardevoir? There's actually a story about a Gardevoir that's tied to the natural disasters... anyways, as you were saying? I'll tell that story after yours," Roll smiled.
"Sure, I'll like that," I smiled at her. "As for the questions, I was so good and truthful about answering them, that Gardevoir ended up laughing a couple times because of my words that I spoke. And then she said I would be a Mareep and that I was going to lose all my memories if I went through with this... do you get the gist yet?" I asked Roll.
"Yeah... you pretty much did this willingly, knowing you'd forget everything. And you said you were going to do this as some kind of interview... and Gardevoir was the one that was interviewing you... hmm..." Roll frowned.
"How about you share your story next?" I asked.
"Well, there's an old legend about a mean human who had a Gardevoir. This trainer was very nasty to Pokemon, even being mean to his Gardevoir on occasion. But then, one day, the human got a very bad idea that he decided to do... pull on one of the many tails of a Ninetails," Roll explained.
"What happened after that? And what's so bad about touching a tail of a Ninetails?" I asked.
"Well, Ninetails are very full of magical power that emanates through their tails, or so I've heard. But if you pull on their tail, Ninetails will curse you for a thousand years. The human was just about to have the curse hit him... until the Gardevoir protected him from the attack, taking the full curse onto herself and turning into a creature that could only be best described as a spirit. Not even a ghost type, but just her soul was all that remained. And the Ninetails, furious at the human, turned him into a Pokemon... and people say that, ever since that day happened, the natural disasters started the whole world over," Roll explained.
"Damn... sounds like that human got his just-desserts, but at the expense of the whole world... I do have to wonder if we'll ever encounter that human in our adventures... though it probably should be noted we should keep my identity as a human under wraps, especially with a story as scary as that," I said.
"Agreed... we should really be careful of who we speak to about that part of you, considering the tale... even though the human in the story was a male and not a female like you are... that and your story is much more positive than the one with the mean human and completely different," Roll frowned as we finally got to the house and we sighed a breath of relief, seeing that it was still daylight out, nearing lunch time... and we still had no mail in our mailbox.
"Well, looks like we still have half the day left. Do we know of any other nearby areas that may have jobs to do?" I asked Roll.
"Oh, yeah! Pelipper Post Office has a bulletin board that is filled with jobs for Rescue Teams! Let's go over there, Cher!" Roll smirked as we then proceeded to the east, where our next adventure lie ahead.
