So, here's the next chapter and as always, enjoy and again, I'm open to all kinds of reviews, even negative ones, they help me improve and notice all the wrong things I'm doing. Thanks for reading!

A/N I originally had a different scene planned out for the whole Rachel-Grace finding out about the accident, but after reading Long Live Brucas' review, I thought it would be better to change what I had in mind. So thank you!

A/N The parts in italics are Steve's thoughts

Chapter three

Please don't die Danny, please don't die. These are the words Steve's been repeating, over and over again. He just couldn't bear thinking his partner was going to die. He had been praying as well. This seriously can't be happening right now, he thought to himself. Danny doesn't deserve this. Steve was determined to find the person behind this incident. He owes it to Danny. He's strong Steve, he won't die. He can't die. Steve was trying to convince himself that his best friend wouldn't die. He knows how strong Danny is, but what are his chances after an accident like that? Please don't die, he said to himself, on his way to King's Medical Center, the hospital Danny's being taken to.

After calling Chin, Steve immediately rushed to the hospital. Chin also made his way there and had to inform Kono. They all had to be there for Danny, he's ohana. None of them was willing to let the other down, they always had each other's backs, they were always there for each other, and this time was no exception.

Steve had finally reached the hospital. He ran to the nurse station. There were two nurses, and he made his way to one of them asking about his partner, "Good evening, I'm Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, my partner Detective Danny Williams was rushed here about 10 minutes ago, he got into a car accident."

"Commander I currently have no information on your partner, I'm sorry. All I know is that he's in surgery right now. If you want I can take you to the waiting room and as soon as Detective Williams is out of surgery, the doctor will page you in on his condition" replied the nurse. She was very nice and gentle. She had blond hair and was pretty. Her presence was soothing to Steve, he didn't exactly know why. Maybe it was the way she talked? Maybe she's just good at her job? Whatever it was, she made him feel like his partner was safe and in good hands. However, he was still worried.

"Okay, sure, that would be great, thank you" said Steve, with a small smile on his face.

The nurse then took Steve to the waiting room that was two floors above. The silence was pretty awkward, so she broke it and spoke. "You're very worried, Detective Williams must be a good friend".

Steve agreed, "Yeah, yeah he is. You know, he's always been there for me. We met three years ago, but ever since, we always had each other's backs. We argue most of the time, but whenever one of us gets hurt, or just needs someone to talk to, we're always there for each other. And Danno is no exception. Sometimes I wonder how I would've survived some stuff without him being there for me, you know? He always made sure I was okay. I just… I.. I don't know what I would do without him. And with the accident right now, I just.. I'm scared." The tears started welling up but he fought hard to keep his composure.

The nurse just looked at him and smiled sadly. She really saw how deep the relationship between these two men is. "I'm so sorry, Commander. Don't worry, he's in good hands, he'll pull through. Try not to worry so much, okay?"

Steve sighed and ran his hand across his face, "Thank you, really" he said, smiling softly at the nurse. He liked her, she was nice and caring. A few moments later, they had arrived to the waiting room and she left him alone, waiting for any news.

A couple of minutes later, Chin and Kono arrived and went straight to the waiting room. They saw Steve, sitting with his back on the wall and his knees pulled up, his head down. He looked broken, defeated and extremely sad. Kono tried hard to fight the tears back.

"Steve? Brah, are you okay?" asked Chin as he placed his hand on Steve's right knee, to show some support.

Steve raised his head and saw them. He wiped the tears on his face. "I'm sorry guys, I didn't notice you were here" he said, his voice trembling. He's been crying this whole time in silence, praying for his friend.

"How is he boss, any news?" asked Kono. She was scared. Danny's like a big brother to her. He had always looked out for her. On top of that, the guy always managed to crack her up and that was something she loved about him. She hoped and prayed Danny would make it.

"No, nothing. The nurse told me he's in surgery. Guys, he looked bad. He was covered in blood, they had to put a neck brace on him. What if he ends up being paralyzed, huh? I just.. I can't believe this happened." Said Steve. The sadness was very clear and evident.

"Don't got there brah. Danny's as tough as they come, he'll pull through" answered Chin. He had to say something, Steve looked defeated and it broke him to see him like that. He himself was also scared that it could all end up with Danny being paralyzed, but he wasn't gonna let himself go there. Until they hear any news from the doctor himself, all he could do is pray for Danny.

Steve just looked at him and nodded. Please don't die Danny. Please fight this thing, don't end up being paralyzed.

The three of them stayed silent for well over 15 minutes, with each of them praying for their friend who was battling for his life inside the OR. Steve's phone broke the silence. Rachel's calling him. He completely forgot about Grace, they had plans. Crap. What was he gonna tell Grace, he can't tell her that her dad got into a life-threatening accident and is badly injured. He looked at Chin and Kono, "I'll be back." He then got up and left the waiting room to answer his phone. The cousins knew that it would be Rachel calling him.

"Hi Rachel" said Steve as he answered the phone.

"Good evening Commander. May I ask why Danny still didn't come to pick Grace up? He was supposed to be here 30 minutes ago" replied Rachel with her strong British accent.

"Uh, Rachel I don't know how to say this, but Danny's in the hospital" said Steve. He didn't know what else to tell her.

"Oh my god, is he okay, what's happened?" Rachel instantly panicked. Even though she and Danny were divorced, she still cared about him. Sure, they always had their own problems and differences, but whenever Danny would get in trouble, she'd become scared and worried, she still loved him and cared about him.

Steve had to deliver the news sooner or later, so he just went with it and told her "Rachel, Danny got into a car crash, it's bad."

He directly registered Rachel's gasp. He hated himself for doing that. He continued "Look, Rachel, I'm so sorry I had to tell you that, but I figured you should know. He's gonna be okay, alright?"

She was crying. She couldn't believe that Danny got into a bad accident "Oh god, what do I tell Grace, I mean she still thinks her dad's coming to pick her up."

That was challenging for Steve. He didn't want to tell Grace what exactly happened, she's still too young and he didn't want to scare her. Plus, Danny would single-handedly kill him if he tells her the whole truth. "Just tell her that Danny isn't feeling okay and he needs to rest for a couple of days, I don't want her knowing that he got into a car crash".

"Alright Commander, thank you so much. Just one thing, whenever you get any news, please call me, whatever time it is, it's fine" said Rachel, still pretty shaken up by what she just heard.

"Of course, don't worry. Just tell Gracie that Danno loves her and if she ever feels like she wants to see him, just call me and I'll handle it" replied Steve. He cares about that little girl and he would do anything to make her feel safe. But this was different and he knew that at some point, Grace will have to know what happened to her dad.

"Alright, thank you so much again. Call me when you get something." With that, Rachel hung up and Steve made his way back to the two cousins, still waiting impatiently.

"That was Rachel. Poor Gracie still thinks Danny's on his way to pick her up." He really felt bad for her.

"Poor girl" said Chin.

"Any news?" asked Steve. The wait has been unbearable, he couldn't stand waiting and not knowing a thing of what's happening inside the OR.

"Nothing yet, still waiting" answered Kono. She was also getting tired of the wait. She needed to know if Danny was okay.

The three teammates had only one thing to do, sit down and wait for any news on their close friend lying on the operating table fighting for his life.

Two hours had passed since their last interaction. They were all silent, desperately waiting for any news on Danny. They tried to convince themselves that no news was good news, but they didn't know how long they could last in this state. Steve had been pacing the floor for the past 2 hours or so and the cousins just sat waiting for the news, praying for their friend. The wait has been horrible.

Steve was thinking about his friend and what he had said to the nice nurse when she guided him to the waiting room. He truly meant everything he said. Danny was really one of his closest friends now and trusts him 100%. He's been there for him despite all their 'arguments', it was more like bickering, he thought to himself with a small grin appearing on his face. Danny means so much to him and he truly loves him and cared deeply about him. When Danny got exposed to sarin, Steve realized how much Danny actually meant to him and how much he loved him. That's when he realized that Danny was more than just his partner and his colleague, he was a close friend, even a brother. Their friendship had evolved so much. The sound of a door opening interrupted his thoughts. It was the doctor.

Steve was sitting down because he got tired. When the doctor entered, he jumped to his feet.

"Family of Detective Williams?" said the doctor, with his surgery mask down.

"Yeah, that would be us. How is he doc? Is he okay?" asked Steve nervously, he couldn't wait any longer. Chin and Kono were standing right next to him waiting anxiously and nervously for the news.

The doctor sighed, there were many good things about being a doctor, but with every job comes its cons, and delivering such news to a patient's family was not something he liked.

A/N I'm so sorry for that little cliffhanger. I hope it isn't that bad. So did you guys like it? Was it too slow, too long, good, normal, great, I'm open to all kinds of opinions and reviews! Again thank you so much for reading. With the show being over, I'm in a complete state of denial and fanfiction is a big help. One more time, thanks for reading! Hope you liked that chapter!
