A/N There it is, chapter 5! This is mostly an explanation of how Stan got away with the accident and everything, so there's a flashback basically. I'm so sorry that this chapter isn't focused on the team :( I briefly mentioned the reason behind Stan hurting Danny the way he did. It'll be mostly explained in the next chapter. Hope you guys enjoy and thanks for reading!

Chapter Five
"Steve, it's Stan" said Chin.
Steve just stood there, trying to take in what he had just heard. He couldn't believe it. But he wasn't just in disbelief, he was in anger. He was furious. Never in a million years he thought that Stan would do something like that. All he could think of was how Danny would react to this news. He would be heartbroken. Even if Danny didn't always like Stan, he would never reach to a point where he'd hate the guy's guts. He always respected him for at least taking care of his daughter when he wasn't around.
"You mean to tell me that Stan Edwards, as in Step-Stan, did this?" asked Steve. His voice was full of anger but unease at the same time. He was actually feeling a lot of emotions. He was confused, sad, angry, infuriated at Stan, and in shock.
"Yes, I'm sorry Steve" replied Chin. He didn't know what else to say. He continued "Look, Kono and I can go arrest him right now for a hit and run and settle things down tomorrow. Duke tracked the van and it looks like he dumped it in a field. He also traced his cell and he's at home. Only thing is that he booked a flight out to Shanghai bound to leave tomorrow night at 7 to be exact. It's a one way ticket, it looks like he's running away."
"No, I want to pay him a visit myself. We'll surprise him tomorrow morning. You and Kono can go home and rest, it's already 10PM and it's been one hell of a day. And before you say something, trust me, I'm fine, don't worry about me, I'll stay here with Danny and I'll update you in case anything happens. The nurses told me that we shouldn't expect him to wake up until at least tomorrow afternoon" responded Steve.
"As you wish boss, take care" said Chin. He then hung up, thanked Duke for all the work he's done along with some other officers, and made his way home, dropping Kono off at hers before.
Meanwhile, Steve was in a world of anger, confusion, sadness and hurt all in the same time. Six hours ago, Danny was with them smiling and laughing and talking, and now, six hours later, he's in the ICU fighting for his life. Life can be so unfair at times. The nurses gave Steve permission to enter Danny's room and informed him that every hour and a half, a nurse would come in to check on Danny.
He made his way back to the room and sat on a much more comfortable chair the nurses had placed, knowing that he would want to stay with Danny. He placed his hand on Danny's left one and sighed "I'm right here buddy and I'm not going anywhere. I got you" The only place I'm going to is Rachel's place to arrest Stan, that bastard, for what he did to Danny, he thought to himself.
Steve had spent the next 30 minutes just thinking about the whole situation, still never leaving Danny's side and never stop holding his hand. Eventually, the tiredness washed him over and he closed his eyes as he drifted to a light sleep.

Five hours earlier, back to the time of the crash
Stan had been tracking Danny for the past 2 hours. It's time to finish the job. He got the alert that Danny left HQ. He hired a man to help him with this job, and it was now up to him to finish it off. Truth be told, he was kind of nervous, he knew that Five-0 would want to dig deep into what would happen, but he figured he had it all planned out and under control. Plus, after what he put Rachel through the past year, he thought Danny deserved what he was about to get. He contemplated on walking away and leaving Danny alone, but he ignored the second thoughts and decided to go with it. He started something, he has to finish it.
Stan was in the van, waiting for his guy to give him the signal. He prayed that it would all work out. His phone then rang and he picked it up, "You got him?" he asked.
"I'm 2 cars behind him. Be careful, when I give you the signal, you have to step on it. We're almost there" answered the other guy.
"Alright, alright" replied Stan, sighing nervously. He kept some distance so that he had enough time to actually be able to hit Danny hard. He obviously thought it all through. He used a van so that he could put Danny at greater risk, a vehicle like a Camaro would never resist a strong impact from a van. I hope this works, he deserves it, it's okay, it'll all gonna work out, he said to himself. It was a matter of seconds before his guy would give him the signal. Alright Stanley, you can do this, he deserves it, he deserves it, he deserves it so much. He kept saying that to convince himself that Danny truly deserves it, he tried pushing away all his second thoughts. Danny deser-
"Now, now, do it" said the guy through the phone, interrupting Stan's thoughts.
He sighed. Let's go, it's time, goodbye Danny.
Stan put his foot on the accelerator and pressed hard on it. The van immediately picked its speed up and fast. He was getting closer and closer, the speed increasing faster and faster. Oh god. He was so close from the Camaro. He looked at his speed and it was close to 120 km/h. It's time, oh god. Boom!
Stan hit the Camaro. The impact had been so strong. He watched it all happen. He saw Danny's car flipping 2 times, glass flying everywhere. The pedestrians walking were in complete shock. Some of them ran away from the terror they had just witnessed. Stan hadn't really hurt himself. Except from some scratches on his face with a bit of blood, he was fine. He thought that after doing the job, he would feel regret but he had felt the complete opposite. He looked at the Camaro and could spot Danny, badly injured. A small grin appeared on his face. He then spotted his guy and nodded at him while he got away from the scene. With that, Stan stepped on the accelerator and fled the scene, hoping Danny wouldn't make it. He deserves it.
He tried to go as far as possible from the scene of the crash. He then saw a field a couple of meters ahead and decided to stash the van he was driving. He had bought that van specially for this job. He really hoped his plan would work. Gosh I hope this works. He accelerated more trying to arrive to the field he had spotted earlier.
Arriving there, he parked the van and made his way out of it. He hoped this place was good enough. He tried his best to not draw any attention to himself. Stan then called his guy to pick him up and drive him home. Taking a cab would be too suspicious. He waited approximately 15 minutes before his guy arrived and picked him up. "We did a good job" spoke Stan.
"Yeah, we did. Let's hope that plan of yours truly works" replied the guy.
"Don't worry, it'll work. You'll get your ten thousand dollars first thing in the morning. Deal's a deal" said Stan. He found this guy to help him and promised him he would get paid for the job.
"Thank you" answered the guy back. The rest of the ride was quiet. Stan's guy then dropped him off and left.
Stan hoped that his plan of his wouldn't backfire, because if it did, not only would he go to jail, but he would lose his family. But, he hoped that after explaining his actions to Rachel, she would understand. That is, of course, if he gets caught and his plan backfires. But this was far from happening. At least that's what he told himself. He booked a one way ticket to Shanghai to go as far away as possible. His flight is supposed to leave in 24 hours, no one would find out about anything in 24 hours. He told Rachel that he had a business trip and that he didn't know for how long he would be away.
"Rachel, I'm extremely busy these days. That's why I can't know when I'll be back. But I'm leaving in 6 days, there's enough time for us to spend together, and I promise that I'll try to make my trip as short as possible"
"Alright, fine. But please, be careful Stanley. And I want you to call us every day, okay."
He remembered that conversation with Rachel. He was really going to miss Rachel, Grace and his son Charlie, but he had to go away, he had to.
He then made his way to the house. Rachel greeted him. She couldn't help but notice the scratches and the scars on her husband's face. "Oh my god, Stan are you alright? Why is your face bleeding?" she asked nervously.
Crap. He forgot to patch them up. "Don't worry, just a little misunderstanding. I dealt with it, I called the cops, the guy's locked up. It's all good." That's all he could come up with. Lying to Rachel on the spot without pre-thinking what he would say was always sort of hard for him, but this time it seemed to work.
"Oh god. Let me bring some ice" responded Rachel. She went to the kitchen to bring her husband some a bag of ice. On her way back, she noticed the look on his face. Something was definitely wrong. He seemed uneasy and uncomfortable. She thought to let it slide and talk about it later, he just had to patch his scars up and put some ice. "There you go" she said, smiling at him softly.
"Thanks, Rachel. Love you" replied Stan, smiling back at her, softly.
He then made his way upstairs to his office, leaving Rachel all alone. I hope this works.

Stan had been in his office for well over 40 minutes. He's been thinking about what he had just done. What if the cops find me? What if he dies and Rachel finds out and leaves me? What if I'll spend the next 20 years of my life in prison? Dammit Stan, stop it! It's all good.
Rachel then burst into Stan's office interrupting his thoughts. He looked up and noticed the look on her face. She seemed so sad, devastated. She was definitely crying. "Rachel, honey, what's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked her, holding her arms and looking at her as he stood up.
"Stan… oh god.. I… It's Danny.. Stan.. I.. he's been in an accident." Rachel then threw herself to her husband's arms, crying on his shoulder. Stan didn't know what to do. If she knows, that means that the cops know. Oh god Stan, what have you done. He ignored his thoughts and pulled Rachel into a tight hug. "It's okay, Rachel. Everything's going to be okay" stated Stan. Oh god Stan, what have you done.
A/N So? What do you guys think? I know it's a short chapter but it's really all about Stan and how he actually pulled off something like that. Sorry for the lack of bromance in this chapter and just Five-0 in general, they'll be back in the next chapter. Also, we'll find out the real reason behind Stan's actions and we'll see if he manages to escape or not! Again, thank you for reading!
