Drown myself in alcohol, that shit never helps at all

I might say some stupid things tonight when you pick up this call

I've been hearing silence on the other side for way too long

I can taste it on my tongue, I can tell something's wrong

But I guess it's just my life and I can it if I wanna

But I cannot hide in hills of California

Because these hills have eyes and I got paranoia

I hurt myself sometimes, is that too scary for you

-I think I'm okay

Machine Gun Kelly

AN: This is just an introduction to Beca. More will come in the next chapter. I hope you enjoy.

Story title comes from Heartbreak Weather by Niall Horan.

"Did you hear that Chloe was back?" Jesse asks Beca as he was setting up the shoddy homemade la crosse net Beca's father had made her when she was just discovering her talent for la crosse back when it was much simpler between them. Before things went to hell.

Clutching her la crosse stick at the mention of her ex-girlfriend's name, Beca keeps her focus on the peeling tape in attempt to control her emotions.

Of course, Chloe was back.

"No, how did you know." Beca asked.

"She came into the bookstore last night and bought a few books."

"Did you guys talk." Beca asks clearing her throat. She was hoping she sounded nonchalant because there was no way in hell she would give Jesse the satisfaction of knowing she was still hung up on Chloe.

Even though they had broken up almost two years ago, Beca had thought about what had happened between them every day. She tells her family she's fine, but, it's not like she's going to admit that she talks her ex's social media profiles every day…..despite being blocked by Chloe.

She knew it was pathetic and kind of creepy, but, she hated the way things ended between them. They weren't a perfect couple. They fought constantly. But, Beca had felt like she tried more with Chloe then any of her past flings.

When it ended, it gutted her. She knew it wasn't her fault, and she also knew it was Chloe's fault but it was her first serious high school relationship with her best friend. She felt like she lost two things when they broke up.

"Just for a few moments before her dickhead father came in." Jesse says "He's still an asshole."

Beca lets out a snort as she remembers when he threatened her with a gun on their first date when she went to pick Chloe up.

"Sounds about right, but, can you really blame him."

"I mean, yeah, I get it, but he doesn't half to be an asshole just because he has a gun and is married to the Sherriff- there is a thing called nepotism."

Chloe, Beca and Jesse had all grown up together. Chloe's father-Alaric-had never liked Jesse because he often believed that Jesse got her in trouble when in reality Jesse had always been the scapegoat whenever Chloe and Beca would come up with plans that backfire. Alaric had constantly bailed Jesse out of trouble with the police and he believed that Jesse was the bad influence.

They had always squabbled even though deep down she knew that Alaric cared about both of them. Alaric had been the only father figure in Jesse's life since his mother was a single mother and in a weird way had also been Beca's father figure.

After she was forced to come out when she was thirteen, her father had kicked her out. Chloe and her family had taken her while her mother figured out what to do. When Alaric had found out why Patrick had kicked her out, she saw cuts and bruises on his knuckles the next and saw her father's black eye a few days later at her older sister's volleyball game.

Ever since then Beca has always had a soft side for the grumpy old man. He had been the only one who stood up for her when she needed it the most, when the incident happened two years ago, Beca was one of the few people who stood with Chloe.

"How is she?"

"She's good. She's going to be coming back to Barden Hollows High on Monday, I thought I should warn you."

"Why?" Beca asks

"Beca, I know you, your my best bro" Jesse says. "I know you didn't have an easy time getting over her. You're just getting back to your old self, I don't want you to get hurt again."

She knows Jesse means well, but, she was tired of her friends and family constantly worrying about her. How many times does she half to say "I'm fine" before they realized she wasn't going to say anything more.

"You don't half to worry about me, Jesse, I'm fine." Beca says.

It's exhausting pretending to constantly fake being anything other then fine when she's not. But, she had to pretend so her family wouldn't worry about her.

"Oh, come on, Beca, Everyone knows you still love her." Jesse says "I know it, your sisters know it, your mom knows it, even my damn dog knows it."

"Whatever," Beca huffs. "It doesn't matter, she broke up with me remember. Can we just drop it and practice."

"You see this is why I didn't want to tell you." Jesse says "You always get mad whenever Chloe comes up."

"I said drop it." Beca says as she flicks the small orange ball at Jesse, he ducks.

"Hey, you did that on purpose." Jesse says.

"Yeah, and next time I won't miss."

"Right, you so don't have feelings for Chloe." Jesse mutters

"What was that?" Beca asks

"Nothing. Damn. Beca. Chill." Jesse says.

"that's what I thought."

AN 2: Oooohh, someone's a little testy. What do you think Jesse said that set Beca off?
