A cool breeze blew accross the damp meadow as the inky black sky stretched over the horizon. Crickets chirped and grass swayed, the night was silent as the world slept. All was quiet accross the land, except for one form. A red fox with brilliant fiery wings sat alone on a log, hugging her knees against her chest, her thoughts heavy as she glared downward. A slight shifting behind her caused her to look up, her orange pupils meeting the gold orbs of the black fox she'd been thinking about.
"You're awake!"
She gasped, turning fully to embrace him. The tall thin midnight colored fox, Kai, didn't resist as his friend advanced, though he grimaced silently. After a moment the vixen, Kiki, pulled away, and the two once again sat down together on the log.
"Are you feeling better?"
Kiki questioned, a worried smile on her white muzzle. Their group had narrowly escaped fighting the hawk king, and they had Kai to thank, however the fox was weakened and had been unconscious the entire day. They were stationed in the woods at a rebel camp, Kai's evil half brother Andre had also been dragged along during their mass teleport. He'd put up a fuss, but eventually he was apprehended.
"Untruthfully, yes."
Kiki's brow furrowed.
"And, truthfully?"
Kai looked to the ground, the silence shared between them allowed the crickets to be heard once again.
"I've had better days."
Kiki smiled again, her ears pulling back slightly as her features softened.
"I... um, I have a confession to make..."
Kai still didn't look at her, though his ears perked a bit letting her know he was listening. Kiki shifted, unconsciously grabbing her tail and playing with it, her focus becoming a bit distant.
"We're all vary greatfull, for what you provide to the team... And well, If it's not to much to ask..."
She trailed off, scooting closer to him, their sides touching lightly.
"W-would you, um... Would you be my mate?"
The last part had been practically whispered, the young fox slowly looking upwards and meeting the contemporary gaze of her taller companion. Kai stayed quiet, holding her eyes with his as he thought, he wasn't surprised she'd ask this, many vixens had quickly developed similar emotions for him before.
"Apologies miss Kiki, but I'd have to decline your inquiry."
Kiki felt her heart shatter, Kai slowly stood and lightly dusted himself off. He turned, and gave her a soft look that no one had ever seen on the normally cold fairy fox before.
"You're a fascinating girl, and i'm sure you'll attract a mate someday, but I myself have yet another whomst i've promised bondship. I'm certain you'd understand."
Kiki gave a slow nod, and with that, Kai walked back to his tent. Before he entered he stopped and stole a solemn glance up at the moon. Proud, bold, and glistening white, it reminded him greatly of the one he'd always dreamed of. He felt a pang in his chest, and whispered silently to himself.
"Goodnight, miss Starria."
Author's note: Ahh here's a quick fic where Kiki confesses her feelings for Kai, though anyone who's watched Fairy Foxes will know that he does not feel the same for her! xp I actually based small parts of this fic off of a comic that can be found of the official FF ask blog! Also yes Starria is a canon character and YES SHE IS KAI'S LOVE INTEREST! She only appears in BoTC tho. Anyways, episode 12 is almost here!
