Carla had been staying in the hotel for a few days. Everyday Nick would come and visit and bring her some food. They would chat for a while and then he would leave to go back to the street so no one wondered where he was.

He would often see Peter wandering the streets with either Johnny or Roy to find her and often thought about telling them that he knew where she was. But he knew that Carla didn't want them to know and he liked her depending on him.

A week after staying in the hotel, Carla would venture out into the lobby and sit watching people. She would make sure no one was watching her and then make her way back to the room.

On Nick's next visit the receptionist pulled him for a chat. She asked him questions about Carla and asked him to get her to stop sitting in the lobby as she was scaring some of the guests with her outbursts.

Nick went up to the room to find Carla laid on the bed asleep.

"Carla" he gently called, placing his hand on her shoulder and trying to wake her.

She jumped up and hit his hand away.

"It's ok, it is only me" he said.

"You scared me"

"I'm sorry"

"You know you are the only one I trust"

"I know that, I have just spoken to the women downstairs and she has asked if you can sit somewhere else in the morning, instead of the lobby"

"Why"

"Because some of the guests are not the most friendly and she wants your experience here to be nice"

"Ok"

Carla seemed to believe most of what Nick would say to her. She had no one else to trust at this point.

"Carla, can we talk about going home yet?"

"NO" Carla shouted at him.

"Ok I am sorry" Nick said.

"No I am sorry" she said sitting closer to him on the bed "I shouldn't shout at you" She placed her hand on his shoulder "you are being so kind to me"

Nick nodded. He felt the connection between the pair of them. He had loved Carla in the past and always enjoyed sex with her. He couldn't now though, she wasn't in the correct frame of mind.

"How about I go and grab us some dinner, from that nice indian you like"

"That would be lovely"

"Ok, I will be right back" Nick stood up to leave but was pulled back by Carla grabbing his hand.

"Don't forget the mango chutney"

Nick laughed at her "ok" even at a time where she was mentally unstable she still could make him laugh.

On the walk to the indian Nick would be lying if he said he hadn't felt close to Carla the last week. He would also be lying if he said he tried hard enough to keep their marriage going, because he knows he didn't.

It took Nick about 45 minutes to get the indian. When he arrived back at the hotel Carla was dressed in some nice clothes and had just freshly showered.

"You look nice" he said to her, placing the bag down on the side.

"Thank you, I wanted to make an effort for a change"

"You didn't have to Carla"

"I know that but you have been so kind to me, I didn't want you eating dinner with a tramp"

"You are definitely not one of those"

They both ate dinner and talked about things. Carla kept checking the window for anyone that might want to get hold of her.

"You are safe here Carla"

"I know and I have you to thank for that"

Carla moved to be sat on the same bed as Nick. he had been so kind to her but she wasn't sure she could trust him fully.

"Carla, you have some sauce on your face" Nick said raising his hand to her face to wipe it off. She flinched but then let him wipe her face.

Nick brought his face closer to hers. They were inches apart. Nick looked at her, she wasn't telling him to stop so he closed the gap in between their lips and kissed her. Slowly at first as he didn't want to scare her.

He then bought his hands up to the back of her neck and made his kiss more passionate.

He pulled away to look at her to make sure she was ok with him kissing her.

"Are you okay?" he asked her.

Carla nodded and closed the gap once again. She wasn't sure why she was kissing Nick but she knew that she was okay with him.

They had had a nice evening and this felt like natural progression to Carla. She wasn't in her right mind otherwise she would have thought of Peter - the man she actually loved.

The pair continued to kiss until Nick pulled her on top of him.

..

Nick woke up the next morning to Carla still asleep next to him. He instantly panicked. He was with Leanne and this was cheating.

Carla was vulnerable, but Nick didn't see her like that. He saw her as his ex wife that he wished he had given another chance too.

He got up out of the bed gently so as to not wake her up, he got dressed and wrote her a note. He then left in the direction of home to explain to Leanne where he had been all night.

Carla woke up a little bit later to an empty bed. She was confused as to why Nick left but she got on with the rest of her day.

Over on the street Nick told Leanne that he stayed with David last night. She bought it for now. Next he needed to see David to ask him to tell Leanne he stayed with him.

David agreed, under the condition that he tell him where he was at a later date.

That evening Nick made his way back to Carla.

She was quiet with him when he first arrived. She didn't look at him.

"I am sorry about last night, if you think I took it too far" Nick said to a quiet Carla.

"No I am sorry"

"Why are you sorry, you haven't done anything wrong Carla" Nick approached her and sat next to her.

"When I woke up and you were gone, I thought I had upset you"

"No Carla" Nick placed his hand on her cheek "You can never upset me, I just had to go to work"

"Ok, so we are okay then?" she asked.

"More than" Nick said, placing a kiss on her forehead and pulling her in for a cuddle.

Thanks for the reviews. I know this chapter is smaller than the others but I have to spread the flashbacks out, also I find it difficult to write about Nick and Carla because I love Peter so much.

Hopefully I haven't upset with this story. Please tell me if I have. I have been updating every day and everyone seems to like that so I will continue until I run out of chapters or time! Thanks again.
