Lily woke to the sound of her beeping alarm and, without missing a step, threw it off of her dresser.
In her defense, she immediately rubbed her eyes, forced herself out of bed, and put it back. It's not like she had broken it. Also, the beeping was really annoying.
Lily's eyes widened as she realized what day it was. Checking her calendar to make sure (but knowing she didn't have to, Lily had been preparing for this day for weeks), she glanced at the neatly folded clothes on her desk and grinned. It was her first day at Hogwarts High School.
"Good morning!" Lily's mum bustled into the room, knocking on the door before opening it. She pulled Lily into a tight hug and held her face while she smiled. "It's your first day! My baby girl's first day of school!"
"Mum," Lily groaned, stifling a laugh. "You're acting like I'm a kid. I'm in year twelve."
"I know, I know. But you'll always be my baby girl," Lily's mum hugged her for a couple seconds more before quickly letting go and wiping her eyes, which brimmed with tears. "I'll let you get ready. Breakfast is downstairs and I'll drive you today."
"Thanks, Mum," Lily turned towards her pre-planned clothes as her mum closed the door, letting her change in peace.
Once Lily had gotten dressed, done a little bit of makeup (she had to at least attempt to look nice on her first day), and brushed her fiery red hair, she rushed downstairs to eat her favorite cereal of all time: lucky charms.
"I don't know why you even like those," her dad stated as he looked up from the newspaper he was reading to give Lily a kiss on the cheek. "Half the time you don't even eat the actual cereal, just the marshmallows."
"They're the best part," Lily grinned cheekily.
Petunia, Lily's older sister, made her way into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes.
"Good morning, Petunia," Lily's mother called cheerily.
"Morning." Petunia grabbed a protein bar from the pantry and stalked back out of the room.
"Touchy," Lily said under her breath. Her dad gave her a stern look but quickly turned back to his newspaper.
"Are you almost ready to go, Lils?" Her mum asked as Lily finished eating her marshmallows. Lily nodded, her face stuffed, and grabbed her backpack. She quickly looked over the color coded binders and notebooks before nodding to herself and closing it.
"Let's go!" She kissed her dad and yelled goodbye to Petunia, but left the house and locked the door before hearing a response. Lily had learned by then to not expect one.
As Lily and her mum pulled up to the school, she saw a bunch of people strolling around, sitting under trees, and talking in groups. Lily took a deep breath and was about to exit the car when her mum started speaking.
"Thank you for being so understanding with our move to Scotland, Lily," her mum, for the second time that morning, looked as if she were going to cry.
"Of course, Mum," she laughed, giving her mum a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh, I hope you love it here. You better tell me everything when I pick you up!"
"I will!" Lily opened the car door, grabbed her backpack, and smiled at her mum before turning to face the school.
Hogwarts High school, here I come.
XxX
Walking through the hallways, Lily felt extremely overwhelmed.
She could see that through the many years of schooling together, students had already formed cliques. She saw the typical emo kids, the skater kids, and the kids who looked as though they were planning a Satanic ritual after school, but she didn't see anybody who she might want to talk to. Lily wasn't necessarily picky with her friends, but she liked to have good influences around her.
"Excuse me, are you new here?"
Lily turned towards the sound of the voice and saw a guy who looked pretty average. He had a hooked nose and long, greasy hair, and his eyebrows raised at the sight of her.
"You look lost."
"Oh, yes, I'm new," Lily suddenly found her voice. "Just moved here from Britain. I'm in year twelve."
"I am too!" The boy looked relieved at having found someone to talk to. "New, I mean. And in year twelve. I've lived in the area, but this school is new for me too. I used to go to Ilvermorny, a little ways away. I'm Severus Snape," the boy held out his hand.
"Lily Evans," she shook his hand. It was cold to the touch.
"What's your first class?" He pulled out his schedule and waited for her to do the same.
Lily looked over the piece of paper with her classes on it. "Physics with Flitwick. What about you?"
"Oh, I have precal with McGonagall. Can I see the rest of your schedule?"
She handed the paper over to him and waited as he compared them. Looking around, Lily noticed the weirdly colored decorations. There were maroon and gold, green and silver, blue and bronze, and yellow and black, but the colors seemed to only stay with their respective colors and never mix.
"We have world history together third period, with Binns," Severus smiled at her. His smile looks a bit like a grimace, Lily thought. She then reprimanded herself for it. I'll never make friends with this attitude.
"Neat," Lily said as she continued to look around.
"They do something weird here," Severus stated, noticing her staring at the decorations. "They split the students into different houses and award you house points based on how well you do in class. It's easy to understand once you do it, and they'll explain it first period."
"Thank you," Lily said as she looked down at her watch. First period started in five minutes. "Do you happen to know where McGonagall's room is?"
"I don't," he looked pained by being unable to help. "I'm sure you could ask someone else though."
"Okay. Thank you for your help, Severus!" Lily smiled as she turned to walk away.
"See you in third period."
Lily walked away, looking for someone to ask for directions. She saw two boys standing by lockers, talking, and tapped one of them on the shoulder.
He turned around, and he was probably the most gorgeous boy Lily had ever seen. He was tall, probably 6'1, and had dark, messy, jet black hair. His jaw was chiseled and his eyes were a sparkling hazel brown, and his muscles… Lily had to stop herself from staring at them. He looked at her expectantly, smirking, and Lily had to clear her throat to gather herself and remember what she was asking for.
"Um, do you happen to know where Professor McGonagall's room is?" Her voice came out more high pitched and squeaky than normal, and Lily almost threw up at the sound of it.
The boy leaned over her shoulder to see her schedule, and Lily got a faint whiff of his cologne. Fuck, Lily thought. That smells incredible. He was so tall and Lily was so short, he barely had to reach over to see over her. The friend that he was standing with chuckled.
Looking over at him, Lily noticed that he was the second most gorgeous boy she'd ever seen. He had black hair like the first boy's, but his was neat and longer. He was extremely tan and also tall, and his eyes were a beautiful shade of grey. He had a permanent smirk on his face and he looked at Lily as if she were the prettiest thing he'd ever seen.
The first boy noticed her staring and laughed. "Knock it off," he said to his friend, shoving his shoulder, before turning back to Lily. His voice was deep and enthralling. "You go straight down the hallway and to the right. It should be a couple doors down on the left. You can't miss her, she has glasses and her hair is probably in a super tight bun and she looks like she'll murder you if you cuss."
His friend let out a bark of a laugh, and began to speak. His voice was almost as deep as the first boy's. "One time I said shit in front of her and she gave me three days of detention. Be careful, Minnie doesn't play games."
Lily nodded and gave them both a smile in thanks and hurried away. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.
If all the boys here looked like that, Lily was going to have a damn good time.
XxX
The boy had been right: it was impossible to miss Professor McGonagall.
Just as he had said, her hair was up in a tight bun and she wore round glasses that sat on the bridge of her nose. She was tall and extremely skinny and had an aura that demanded respect. The second that the bell rung, signalling the beginning of class, all conversations died down and everybody was looking at her.
Lily glanced over at the girl who was sitting next to her. She had shoulder-length, caramel colored hair and gorgeous brown eyes. She also had a nice figure, Lily noticed, and it complimented her crop top and booty shorts very well. Looking around, Lily saw a couple of guys eyeing her.
"Hello, class," Professor McGonagall started. "Welcome to AP Physics. You may turn and greet the person beside you."
Lily turned to the pretty girl and made eye contact with her, smiling. The girl smiled back. "Marlene McKinnon," she laughed, glancing up at McGonagall. "She scares me."
"Lily Evans," Lily looked at their teacher too and smirked at Marlene. "She scares me too."
"Then I think we'll be best mates."
They both looked back up at the teacher, along with the rest of the class, as Professor McGonagall started speaking again.
"For those of you who don't know, a few years ago, Hogwarts began implementing a new teaching style. We separate our students into Houses, completely randomly. You are in your House for all of your years at Hogwarts, and you work with your Housemates to earn points. You gain points by participating in class and doing well, and you lose points by misbehaving." At this, she paused, looking over the room. "There are four Houses: Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin. I am the Head of Gryffindor House, but do not expect me to be biased for or against any of you. I treat all of my students the same.
If you have not been put into a House already, please come up to my desk so we can sort you."
Lily slowly stood up, along with two other students. She shakily walked to the professor's desk and stood in line behind one of the others.
"What is your name?" Professor McGonagall asked the student in front of Lily.
"Dorcas Meadowes."
"Let's see, Miss Meadowes," Professor McGonagall scrolled on her computer. "You are in Ravenclaw. You may be seated."
Dorcas left the line and sat back into her seat, whispering to her person next to her about their house.
"What is your name?" Professor McGonagall asked Lily, her eyes bearing into Lily's soul.
"Lily Evans."
The professor scrolled on her computer for a couple seconds more. "Miss Evans, you are in Gryffindor." She peered over her spectacles to make eye contact with Lily. "Welcome to my house. I trust that you will earn us for house points than you will lose."
"Yes, ma'am," Lily nodded as she headed back to her seat next to Marlene.
"What House did you get?" Marlene asked cheerfully, not even waiting for Lily to be seated.
"Gryffindor, what are you in?"
Marlene grinned. "Gryffindor too! Oh, now we just have to be best mates! It's destiny!"
Lily laughed, glad that she had a friend. "It's destiny," she agreed happily.
"Do you play any sports?" Marlene asked, shuffling with papers as the last student was put into a House.
"No, but I'm very good at schoolwork. I was top of my class in Britain." Lily half-smiled. Marlene didn't miss a beat.
"Oh, you'll have to help me then! I'm absolute rubbish at English. I'm a cheerleader," she added, seemingly as a second thought. "Varsity this year, and I'm hoping to be captain but I'm not sure yet."
The last student to be put into a House sat back down in his seat and Professor McGonagall stood up again. "Now that that's settled, let us begin with physics."

Third period felt as if it came quickly, and Lily glanced around the room before spotting Severus with an empty seat next to him and sitting down.
"Hey, Lily!" He grinned, still looking like a grimace. After seeing the other two boys in the hallway that morning, Severus looked significantly more unattractive. "How were your first two classes?"
"Good! I made a friend in first period. Not second period because I sat alone, but my friend and I are going to eat lunch together."
Severus visibly deflated, as if he were planning on asking her to eat with him and his plans were then ruined. "I hope you have a good time."
"Thank you," she said, glancing towards the door and gasping as she did so.
The boy who'd given her directions had just walked into class, not noticing her and taking a seat near the back of the classroom. Severus saw who she was looking at and seemed to get upset. "Don't talk to him," he said, sounding annoyed. "He does nothing but hurt people." Lily asked him what he meant by that, but Severus refused to continue the conversation.
"What House are you in?" Lily asked after a couple of minutes. She hoped that her friend would be in the same one as her.
"Slytherin," he said, sounding proud. "It's the best one out of all of them. We've won the House Cup for the past couple years. Which are you in?"
"Gryffindor," she frowned. "I've heard it's good too."
"Oh," Severus wrinkled his hooked nose. It wasn't a very pleasant expression. "Gryffindor is… not horrible, I suppose. Slytherin is much better."
"We'll see about that," Lily said hotly.
"They have a bit of a rivalry," Severus admitted. "It will make being friends much harder. And you can only really sit with your House at lunch, so your friend from first period better be in Gryffindor too."
"She is," Lily stated before turning back to her work, suddenly in a worse mood. Her mood changed from annoyed to bored, however, as Professor Binns began his lesson. Once Lily thought that she heard snoring from the back of the classroom and turned around to see the boy who'd given her directions with his face in his hands and drool dribbling down his mouth. She scoffed and turned around quickly, grinning. There was no way he was as bad as Severus made him out to be.

Lily only had one class with Marlene, but they promised to meet up before lunch so Lily could sit with her and her friends.
The cafeteria (or the Great Hall, as they called it) had four long tables, and each table had their own place to order lunch. They were each decorated in different colors, and the colors all together in one room clashed quite terribly. Lily looked around for Marlene for a few minutes before finding her in the middle of the table on the far right, her backpack saving a seat next to her.
"Lily!" Marlene sounded overjoyed, standing up to greet her with a hug. "I'm so glad that you found us! It's a good thing you're in Gryffindor, because you're really only supposed to sit with your house- not that everybody follows that rule. Here, let me introduce you to everyone!"
Lily looked around, spotting two other girls that she didn't know and four boys. Her eyes widened as she realized that she recognized two of them.
"Lily!" The boy who'd given her directions grinned, looking her up and down. His hair was still messy and his eyes were still beautiful. "Wonderful to put a name to the face." He looked more awake than he had in Professor Binn's class, Lily laughed to herself as she recalled his nap.
"And what a wonderful face it is," the other boy from that morning smirked. He was sitting next to the first boy, with another boy on his right. Lily hesitantly put her bag down in the seat that Marlene had saved across from him as the boy on his right shoved him.
"Blimey, Sirius, calm down," he laughed. He looked different from the others, yet just as handsome: he had light brown, almost sandy blond hair and chocolate brown eyes, with a thin yet strong frame, and he seemed to be as tall as, if not taller than, the other two boys. "It's the first day and she's new, give the girl a break."
Sirius rolled his eyes and swept aside his gorgeous hair. "Alright, Remy, but only for you."
Lily introduced herself to both of them before realizing that the boy who'd given her directions was staring at her, and she still didn't know his name. She hesitantly brushed her hair out of her eyes. "And you are?"
"James Potter," he smirked, reaching out to shake her hand. She reluctantly took it, noting his firm handshake and recalling what Severus had said about him. "This is Sirius Black and Remus Lupin." He nodded at his two friends, then at the girl beside him. "This is Alice Prewett and that over there," he pointed to the girl across the table, sitting next to Lily, "is Mary Macdonald."
"I'm Peter Pettigrew," the boy next to Mary waved.
Lily nodded at all of them, giving Mary a hug, before sitting down. "This might take me awhile to remember; I'm horribly with names."
"Fine by me," Sirius winked.
"Sirius, I'm serious," Remus shook his head. He then turned to Lily. "I'm so sorry about him, he thinks he's hot just because he's a starter on varsity football.
Sirius shoved him as James laughed. "Hey, so am I. Baseball, too. We're kind of a big deal around here."
Lily raised her eyebrows as she began to eat her packed lunch. "Why am I not surprised?"
"Yes, and Marlene and Mary here are cheerleaders," Alice spoke up. "I'm head of the school newspaper and Remus is president of student council."
Lily was surprised by that: she hadn't exactly expected someone so handsome to also be smart. "Wow," she laughed.
"I'm on the golf team," Peter smiled weakly. "Not the best at it, but I got a Letterman."
Lily realized that he was the only one out of all of them actually wearing his Letterman. Dismissing that, Lily continued to eat.
She made eye contact once with Severus, the first person she'd met at Hogwarts, but quickly looked away when James Potter noticed and grimaced.
"Oh, Lily, please tell me you're not friends with him. Snivellus is like a leech."
"He sucks the fun out of everything." Sirius added.
"He was quite nice when I met him this morning and in history," Lily defended. She felt the need to stand up for him.
Sirius shook his head. "We've all known him since we were eleven, Lils, and he's bad news. Hangs around with the wrong crowd."
"I thought he was new here," she stated, confused. Marlene rolled her eyes.
"He moved away for a year or two, but when his parents got divorced he ended up having to come back. He probably just told you that so you would have something in common. Snape doesn't get to talk to pretty girls very often." The rest of them laughed, but Lily frowned. Deciding to ignore it for now, Lily went back to eating her lunch.

Lily walked into English with Professor Boris, tired and ready to go home. It was the last period of the day and Lily just wanted to leave.
Her mood brightened when she saw who was in her class, however, and she began to smile. She made her way over to two familiar faces: James and Sirius.
"Lily!" Sirius exclaimed as he saw her. He flashed her his gorgeous smile and moved his chair over, making room for her,
"Nice to see you again." James did the same. "How have your classes been so far?"
"Good," she grinned. "I'm glad I know people in this class; pretty much all of them have been just meeting new people."
"Hey, we're the best people to know," Sirius winked. "We know practically everybody, and they all know us. I don't know if we've told you this, but we go by the Marauders."
"Rem, Pete, Siri, and I," James added. "We've gotten so many detentions, the teachers came up with a name and it stuck."
"You shouldn't be getting detentions!" Lily's eyes widened. "Think about how that will look for colleges!"
"They're never for bad things," James explained, as if that made it better. "Usually harmless pranks."
"Usually." Sirius added with a glint in his eye. He and James made eye contact and laughed.
As the three of them got settled, Professor Boris quieted the class and began his lecture. The class was easy, seeing as it was the first day, and Lily was able to zone out without missing any important information.
"Your homework is to get the book Life of Pi," Professor Boris reminded everyone as they left the class. Lily wrote that down and stood up, along with Sirius and James, ready to leave. Lily was one inch shorter than average and they both towered over her.
"Do you have a ride home, Lily?" James asked, looking down at her. She vaguely remembered that she hadn't texted her mum all day.
"Yes, my mum is picking me up. I'm going to drive tomorrow though."
"Ah, okay," he grinned. "Let me know if you ever need a ride."
"I will," Lily smiled back. As the bell rang, signalling the end of school, she made her way out of the classroom and towards where she would get picked up.
"Lily!" Her mum called from her car as she put her bag in the back. "How was it?"
"Great, mum," Lily laughed. She gave her mother a hug before they began to pull out of the school.
"You better tell me all about it right now, young lady."
"I will, I will." Lily's phone went off and she pulled it out. She raised her eyebrows and laughed as she realized that it was a text from Marlene.
LILY! its marlene. there's a football game tomorrow and i was wondering if you want to go? alice and i will be cheering so you would sit with remus, but i promise hes great. let me know!
Lily turned to her mum. "Can I go to a football game tomorrow with a couple of my friends after school?"
"Yes, of course, Lily!" Her mum looked surprised. "Friends like that already?"
"A couple of them will be playing," Lily smirked. She knew her mum would enjoy that.
"Oh, Lily, are they cute?" She grinned, sneaking a look towards her daughter.
"Yes, mum, we should've moved here way sooner.
"Lily, I'm so glad you're happy!" Lily's mum laughed.
As Lily laid down in her bed that night, mentally preparing herself for the next day, she realized something: she was excited. And in all of her days at school before coming to this one, Lily had never been excited. She'd been a good student, sure, but never an excited one. And now… Lily was ready for whatever the rest of the school year would throw at her.
Or so she thought.
Thank you for reading the first chapter in my new story! This should have roughly 19-20 chapters and after the first couple, I promise it's going to be wild and crazy. Lily and James may get along now, but they're going to have a falling out... you'll see what happens. Don't forget to favorite and review!
