It was a cold but warm Christmas Eve. Last year on Christmas Eve, Mo Yeon and Si Jin had the best movie theater date. This year, they planned to do more exciting things, such as having a magnificent dinner together, watching another movie together, or as simple as going for a walk together. This year, however, these things could not be done due to Mo Yeon's cold. She had caught a bad cold a week ago and had been feverishly sniffling, coughing, and sneezing in bed all week. It was one of the worst colds she had caught in years, but she at least got time to rest from all that hard work in Haesung hospital as a surgeon.
As she was lying down in bed, ill, scrolling through her phone, someone called her. It was her boyfriend, Si Jin. He had been informed of Mo Yeon's illness by Mo Yeon's co-worker and friend, Pyo Ji Soo.
"Hello, Si Jin?" Mo Yeon started.
"Hello. Mo Yeon, are you okay? I haven't got the time to hear your voice during the week. How are you now? Are you feeling better? Or perhaps … worse?" Si Jin asked, worriedly.
"You're lucky to call me now. Just yesterday morning, my voice was nearly gone, and this morning it returned. I feel a tiny bit better … however, my entire body aches, my nose is red, and my throat is still sore."
"Oh well, it's Christmas Eve, and my girlfriend is sick. I'm afraid we can't do anything outside this year, Mo Yeon."
Mo Yeon felt awful. "I'm sorry, Si Jin. If it weren't for this cold-"
"However, who said we couldn't be together?" Si Jin grinned from the other side of the phone call. "I'm almost at your house right now, Mo Yeon! I hope you're okay with me going there, right?"
"What? Si Jin, I haven't put any make-up on, and I look like a mess!" Mo Yeon was alarmed. Even though she knew as a doctor that it was best if he didn't visit her, Mo Yeon did enjoy the thought of herself being with her boyfriend on Christmas Eve.
"Mo Yeon, you are beautiful with or without make-up. You are my type no matter what. I'm almost there!"
A few minutes later, there was a knock at Mo Yeon's door. She knew it was Si Jin. Tiredly, she got out of bed, put on a formal sweater, and opened the door to find her wonderful Si Jin standing in front of her door.
"Mo Yeon! I'm glad to see you- but you do look very sick." He hugged her. Mo Yeon gasped, then coughed.
"Are you crazy? You shouldn't hug a patient! A cold is very contagious," She coughed again, then continued. "especially a bad one like mine. Should I wear a mask, or are you okay?"
"If you wear a mask, I won't be able to see your beautiful face!"
Mo Yeon smiled. She loved being with Si Jin. All the moments she was with him were amazing.
"I'm glad we could still be together on Christmas Eve, even while I'm suffering from this terrible cold." Mo Yeon shivered.
Si Jin touched Mo Yeon's forehead. "Gosh, it's hot!" He then grabbed a blanket next to him and wrapped it around his girlfriend. He then looked up at her. "Also, why didn't you tell me you were sick? If you told me, I would have at least made you some porridge or made you some hot water. Since when were you so sick?"
Mo Yeon was about to talk, then sneezed, sniffed, then cleared her throat. Si Jin smiled. To him, everything that Mo Yeon did were cute, even her sneezes.
"Sorry. I was going to say that about a week ago, I felt that funny feeling in my throat and nose, and my head hurt during work at the hospital. I knew I caught a cold like I always did during the winter season, then the next morning I felt awful! My entire body was aching, my nose was blocked, my voice was gone, and I slept so much, I didn't even know that a week had already passed by!"
"Well, I'm glad you're better now. I remember the time in Urk when I pulled a prank on you in the minefield … do you remember?" Si Jin asked.
"Oh, yes. Of course, I remember. I was so embarrassed and mad at you after that! I won't be able to forget that day. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me embarrassed-"
Si Jin grinned. "I think about that every night before I sleep, Mo Yeon!"
She glared at Si Jin.
"Don't. Do not think about that for my sake." Si Jin just laughed. Mo Yeon sniffed.
"Do you need a tissue?"
"Yes, please. Ugh, my nose is so clogged up. I hate this."
While Mo Yeon blew her nose, Si Jin thought of more memories from Urk. "I also remember that time you and I threw ourselves with a car into a lake."
"Oh yes. I also remember that. I got such a fright; while the car was on the cliff, and also after we came back out from the water. I actually thought I was going to die that day!"
Si Jin just smiled warmly at Mo Yeon. "When I'm with you, you won't ever die. I'll always save you, Miss beauty!"
Mo Yeon chuckled. "Ooh, you do sound like a superhero, Mr. Big Boss!" The couple laughed together.
Si Jin looked outside. "Oh hey, it's snowing!"
"Wow … it's beautiful. It looks more beautiful when I'm watching it with someone I love."
