Chapter 5: I know you
Memories of her academy days flooded her mind as her thoughts lingered on the two distinct colours that always remained aligned with one another. A complementary dark blue and a bright orange that were almost inseparable. Her chest tightened as the name of her childhood crush rolled on the tip of her tongue. Naruto-kun. And his best friend Sasuke-kun. This is the life path he chose?
A tense Uchiha stood opposite her, long lost emotions stirring within him accompanied by the feeling of judgement from the Hyuga who looked back at him with a new emotion. He simply waited for a response knowing she had unlocked a piece of his past already thanks to his colleague who spoke too much. The point was, the less Hinata knew about him the safer she would be, but her knowing his true identity risked everything. As much as he hated the facts he knew the princess had now become one major liability. Fuck.
"Y-you n-never came b-back to Konoha...for this?" Hinata accused, her disbelief manifesting itself in her tone. Sasuke inwardly flinched. What was this? An interview? She had no right to judge his choices and yet here she was, sitting there pointing a finger at him with those eyes. Those hateful eyes that he had grown too familiar with seeing. That look... the one that made him burn with fury. A fire flickered within him then as he felt the anger igniting in his chest.
"Shut up. You don't know what you're talking about. You think you know me? Yeah well you don't so keep your mouth shut and stop looking at me like that if you want to stay alive princess" The Uchiha spat, surprising both women in the room for the sudden change from his usual calm and composed self. Hinata let out a small gasp at the outburst, her fingers trembling. She had heard it. The bitterness and the hatred lacing his words, the tone and his demeanour. His gaze if even possible seemed even darker then, as he did not break eye contact, but instead looked at her, his callous hands curled into tight fists with the rage rolling off of him in disorganised waves. Hinata could do nothing but stare back in shock at his reaction. It was as if he hated her then. She could feel the distaste for her in the air surrounding him, it was almost tangible.
"Woah" the redhead let out in a gasp as she placed a hand on Sasuke's shoulder. He quickly pushed off her hand and walked closer to Hinata who sat trembling. Noticing him closing in on her she stood up taking several paces backwards before she felt a cold wall touching the small of her back. Is he going to hit me? What's he going to do? I cant defend myself. I'm scared. Mother if you're somehow listening. Help. Her thoughts collided with one another and her body fell into defence mode as she closed her eyes awaiting something bad to happen. Sasuke's footsteps stopped directly in front of her. She was trapped between a cold wall and him. However, when nothing was happening, she slowly opened her eyes again to look up at the boy, or rather man, that was stood so close to her that she could smell the coffee from him and feel his hot breath scalding her. "Look. I don't plan on hurting you. But just...don't look at me like that again. Please." he let out in a low voice, this time much calmer and controlled. He wasn't shouting at her nor hitting her... he was reasoning with her much to her surprise. She noted the tinge of weakness that marked his last word, faint but there nonetheless, making her feel almost sympathetic towards him.
"Hai I won't" Hinata whispered back, just about loud enough so he could hear. An understanding formed between them then, as Sasuke looked at her one last time before backing away. "Karin, can you get to doing what I brought you here for then?" Sasuke asked, his voice quickly returning to its usual monotone. "uhh...of course Sasuke-kun" the red head replied quickly, confused as to what had just happened but knowing better of her colleague than to question it. She then pulled Hinata lightly by the arm and led her into the living room earning a little gasp from the Hyuga as she followed. Sasuke meanwhile ruffled his hair in his usual manner as he returned to his laptop, stuffing a grape in his mouth while he did so.
"Sooooo, Hinata, seems like you know how to rile up the famous Sasuke-kun then" Karin Chimed as she playfully tugged at Hinata's inky locks. She's so...annoying. "You know I haven't seen him get angry like that ever before, so I don't know how you managed that you pretty little thing" She continued in her high-pitched voice. Hinata didn't bother to reply. If she was being honest, she found this Karin character to be extremely annoying, so much that she would rather speak to the Uchiha despite him being almost...scary. "Not talking huh? Well don't get any ideas because I'm going to have Sasuke-kun for myself one day so remember that you're just a prisoner and if it was up to me I would not hesitate to kill you right now you bitch" She spat out, her true nature revealing itself as she continued to give Hinata a fake and mocking smile. The princess however, remained unbothered by Karin's show of character, having seen it way too often from maids and servants being a member of royalty.
"So what does Uchiha Sasuke want you to do with me?" Hinata responded softly and calmly, irking the redhead by her show of grace. "hm" Karin scoffed as envy overtook her features. "He wants me to buy you clothes and any other female items you may need" Karin admitted. Hinata's soft lips parted suddenly. So he is planning to keep me alive. Even if its just for the moment. But he's actually caring for my...needs? "Ummm hello, did you hear what I said you idiot? Tell me what size you are and what you want and I'll get it for your ungrateful ass" Karin ordered as she rolled her eyes with impatience. So... Hinata responded, trying to not ask for too much as she felt guilty despite the strange circumstances.
"Well then, that should be all then, unless you want even more?" Karin asked, scowling at Hinata who simply stared back, her face void of emotion. Hinata paid the girl in front of her no interest, she didn't care about what she thought of her in the slightest. She knew that Karin liking her or not would make no difference to her current situation, and she doubted she would be making any friends any time soon... or ever depending on what Sasuke planned on doing with her. "Hai" Hinata responded calmly. Karin scoffed before walking back to the kitchen, making sure to turn back once more to quickly give Hinata yet another glare.
"Sasuke kun? Saaaasuukeee-kunnn where are you?" Karin called out loudly in the whiny tone that Hinata despised. Hinata was never an aggressive person by nature, so it came as a surprise to her that the thoughts of shutting her up and not the kindest ways had crossed to her mind. Karin started wandering around the downstairs in confusion as the black messy head of hair belonging to the Uchiha seemed to be nowhere in sight; Karin then made her way upstairs despite it being a clear invasion of privacy. Hinata had silently wandered out of the living room herself, and her eyes fixed on the main door of the compound. Sasuke had seemed to have disappeared and Karin had gone upstairs leaving this as her first ever chance for an escape. She warily eyed the double doors which were magnificent in their design. It made sense to her now, all the designs and emblems carved into every little detail of the house. It was an Uchiha compound, therefore it was designed to be grand by nature; the Uchiha after all were not far from royalty themselves. She quickly snapped out of her thoughts though as she focused on a plan of escape. She could take her chances, or it could all fail horribly and she could be caught and treated like a true prisoner. Small hands curled into fists with deliberation as she silently stood there, adrenaline slowly starting to pump through her Hyuga blood. She was getting anxious. She knew if she was going to make a run for it, she would have to make it now.
It remained unknown to the little princess however, that in the time she had spent contemplating her future actions, the Uchiha was standing two feet behind her. He wasn't angry at all by the situation, safe with the knowledge that even if she did try something, the doors wouldn't open without a key. He wasn't an idiot, as soon as he had been sloppy enough to take a hostage, Sasuke made sure that pretty much every exit point of the compound was locked properly; only he had a key. He was however, amused and was curious to see whether she would indeed try something that ballsy, but after watching her standing there for a good few minutes he decided it was evil to even give her the hope of escape. There would be no escaping today.
"Try it if you like. The door won't open idiot." Sasuke said casually, arms crossed as he leaned on the banister watching her. Hinata spun back in shock from the sudden presence, trembling slightly. "I-I wasn't g-going to-" she began in an attempt to defend herself. "stop lying, you'd be stupid not to try it." He said cutting her off. Hinata didn't look at him, instead she hung her head as she stared down at the oak floor she was becoming so familiar with of late. She didn't know why but all the emotions and thoughts spinning around her mind were making her dizzy, and she couldn't supress the urge to cry. Sasuke remained still, watching her in confusion. A tear drop spilled on the hard oak, causing the Uchiha's eyes to widen with surprise. She just stood there, crying with her face down preserving the little pride she had left. All the emotions she was supressing struck her at once, and for the first time... she had ran out of hope.
Sasuke felt his chest vibrate with guilt as he watched the girl in anguish. Anguish that was a result of his own foolish actions. "Hinata" he called, his tone softer than he had ever used with her before. "Look I'm not angry, I won't hurt you over this" he continued, trying to reason with her sudden breakdown in front of him. To his surprise, the girl slowly lifted her head to look at him. "W-wont hurt me?" She laughed out, still crying. She then walked towards him, her small hands still curled into fists. "Wont hurt me?" She repeated, now pounding at his chest in a desperate attempt to inflict some pain on the man who had wrenched her freedom away from her. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW THEN?" she screamed. Sasuke remained still, letting her collide her small fists onto his chest that was still bare and sweaty after having just finished a workout in the garden. I'm so sorry Hinata.
Soon her punches started to come slower and slower as her arms tired with the persistency. Sasuke then held her arms forcefully, stopping her attack. They both stood there, before Hinata's watery gaze looked up to meet Sasuke's. As always, she couldn't tell what he was thinking. Hinata's breath quivered before she again tried to fight, battling him to regain use of her arms but unable to do so. Realising she wasn't going to stop fighting, Sasuke let out a breath before flinging her over his shoulder with ease causing a shriek to escape from the petite girl who continued to squirm her way out of his grasp. Irritated with her relentless attack, he began up the stairs, before walking into the room that now housed her, and practically threw her on the bed after becoming pissed off with the scratches he was receiving on his back. "HEY. Calm the fuck down. You're staying in here until you fix up" he stated, leaving a deflated Hyuga who now sat up on the bed glaring at him while he exited, locking the door. Once outside, Sasuke closed his eyes and took another deep breath. Managing this one is going to be harder than I thought.
Snapping him out of his thoughts, suddenly, Karin tip toed out of the room opposite Hinata's. That one was his room. Like a deer caught in headlights, she froze, reddening at the sight of him shirtless. "Sasuke-kun! I w-was just uh, well you weren't downstairs and I- uh came up here to look for you, and well I happened to come across your room, and I well.." She began as she fumbled desperately for an excuse. Sasuke just looked at her, clearly pissed off that he had invaded his privacy. Nobody was allowed in his room. "Never come up her again unless I tell you so. Do I make myself clear?" Sasuke stated, his voice deep and angry. "Hai Sasuke-kun I apologise, it won't happen again" Karin responded almost immediately, while shamelessly ogling his chest. "Now did you get the list of items from Hinata?" The Uchiha asked, noticing but ignoring the attention he was receiving. "Hai I d-" Karin began. "Then get out" interrupted the agitated male who just stared at her darkly. She quickly nodded, and hurried downstairs, knowing that an expression like that meant to just listen.
Six hours later...
Hinata purred lazily as she stretched out her unused muscles after just waking up from a nap. Her throat was dry and she swallowed as the events of earlier came to haunt her. She remembered how good it felt, the lashing out, striking him and screaming at his face in the way she had longed to since being captured. She felt lighter now, as if a burden had been lifted off of her. She blinked up at the window, noting it was now dark outside meaning she must have napped for some hours. I must have fallen asleep crying. As she moved her hand to the side, she heard a loud crash causing her to jump up in surprise. She had knocked the empty glass next to her, which now rolled on the hard floor, creating even more noise.
Meanwhile , an Uchiha quirked an eyebrow as he looked up towards the ceiling of his living room, having heard crashes coming from the room that held his prisoner. He had spent the time she was asleep poring over case files and admittedly a large part of it was spent watching tv in avoidance of dealing with his problems. Grunting, he got up, heading upstairs to find out what mess the princess was now probably causing for him. Once outside the door he paused momentarily before knocking. "Hinata? What's happening in there?" He questioned, not knowing whether the girl would even respond. She better not still be acting out. "Nothing, I just dropped your stupid lamp" Hinata answered sourly. The confidence in her tone did not go unnoticed by the Uchiha, and he didn't mind the slight disrespect if it meant she lost the stupid stutter. A rare smirk graced the Uchiha's features as he stood outside in the dark hallway. "Hn whatever. I'm coming in." he stated while unlocking the door.
Once unlocked, Sasuke warily stepped inside, not knowing what to expect. After the last outburst he wasn't taking any more chances with the little Hyuga, who had scratched the hell out of his back just hours earlier. "Will you stop fighting me now? I promise you'll get your freedom back. Just give me some time to figure out how." Sasuke said, looking up at her with a new expression that Hinata hadn't seen before. She noted how his dark pools sparkled as the moonlight hit them and how in reality he wasn't as scary as she thought. "Fine" Hinata responded in doubt. She couldn't trust him and she knew that. Yet, there was something in his expression that made her think otherwise. Either way, she had no control over the situation. Her rebelling would just aggravate the already messed up situation which was something neither of them wanted.
"Good" Was Sasuke's only response, as he stood there, eyes focusing on the view outside the window rather than her. "Sasuke can I ask you something?" Hinata suddenly enquired, suprising her and the Uchiha at the boldness. "Depends. What is it?" He replied. "What happened to you after the academy?" She asked, holding her breath as she awaited a response. Sasuke merely closed his eyes, enjoying the cold air that came from one of the vents in the window. The question hadn't surprised him in the slightest. Of course, she wanted to know how and why he ended up in his current profession. Of course, she wanted to know how it was possible to become this fucked up as a person. The Uchiha however, was in no rush to tell her any of those details so instead just breathed in deeply while Hinata watched him curiously.
"Come. I want to show you something." Sasuke said, evading the question successfully as he watched Hinata's eyes light with a new found curiosity. What could he possibly have to show me?
