Elysian Academy

Chapter 1:
Percy looked at the vast towering cobblestone walls built on the grassy plains. The cotton clouds easily rolling over the tip of the largest tower. The stained glass giving the towers the look of a grand church. The cobblestone on the defending walls full of vines and ivy. The stone itself beginning to crack from the continuous tug of nature.
The resounding sound of gravel being crushed under his stitched boots broke him out of the grandeur of the exceptional academy. So many rumors had been spread that this particular academy was created for the purpose of creating mindless soldiers. Percy would have to see that for himself.
When he was a child in Atlantis (the city that was built on the seas) he had heard the whispers that his realm wasn't all inclined in sending their heirs. Various noble houses had revolted against the current General to avoid such drastic measures. Fortunately, their rebellion was quickly crushed, and Poseidon remained in power. But that was information for a different time.
Overall, the grueling and highly 'Survival of the Fittest' methodology of Elysian Academy wasn't well received. But it was approved by all three allied nation. Which was why Percy was one his way to represent his father. The current leader and General of the militaristic form of government of Atlantis, his father Poseidon.
As he entered the portcullis tower, he was immediately greeted with various soldiers in training. Their swords up in the air ready for a fight. The term for Elysian Academy had started months prior. Percy was very late, a transfer if you could call him that.
Percy's prized sword was neatly wrapped in a brown cloth and tucked into its worn scabbard. The weapon neatly slung over his back. The soldiers in training looked at the seventeen-year-old with narrowed eyes. The soldiers knew he was from Atlantis, they knew that much. The blue coat was a dead giveaway. He wore a double-breasted coat with two rows of silver buttons. Alongside the Sam Brown belts that were diagonally placed on his coat. Unlike normal Atlantean recruits, his coat was full of golden medals and a golden webbed belt. The cloak that neatly cascaded behind his back meant he was an official officer from Atlantis. His trousers neatly pressed with the default black. His hands covered by pure white parade gloves.
The soldiers immediately sheathed their weapons as they gave a neat bow. Percy nodded in acknowledgment as he moved passed them. Inside the walls the school was even more beautiful. The sparkling glass of the large domed greenhouse took his breath away. The multitude of vines, vegetation, and vegetable plants was insurmountable. As his eyes roamed, he looked at the amphitheater which was made of smooth stone. Some students had engraved various initials on them as he traced the engravings with his covered hand.
The numerous buildings within the institution looked grand and ancient. Yet, it seemed that quite a few numbers of them were for dorms and living purposes. As he entered the main structure, he was greeted with numerous students lounging in luxurious armchairs.
The individual who was scribbling away on the yellow parchment failing to realize there was a new student who had entered. The desk helper more intent on writing the demands from the students for more amenities considering their parents were paying a fortune to maintain the school.
Percy cleared his throat to obtain the attention of the front desk helper. She was rather young and beautiful. Her chestnut colored hair perfectly blended in with her pure skin. Her dark eyes so intent on scribbling her notes. Until she finally decided to look up at the interrupting new student.
"Can I help you ? As you can see, I'm doing something imp–" Her voice ceased as she failed to conclude her sentence. A blob of amazement made her words catch in her throat.
"Apologies, I just wanted to know where I could get the schedule for my classes." He flashed a bright smile.
"The term already started. I don't think they will let you attend school midway through the term." She struggled to get her words out. Her main focus on the swirling green irises that seemed to captivate its viewer in a whirlpool.
"You can check the list, can't you? I was supposed to start the term, but I was sidetracked with duties for my nation." Percy pleaded as his eyes seemed to dilate to make them look pleadingly.
"Of course, my name is Calypso. What's your name so I can look through the ledger." Calypso quickly brought out an ancient book full of yellowing parchment. The leather spine of the ledger itself looked very creased almost as if it would rip the next time it would open.
"Percy Jackson, Atlantean Empire." He voiced proudly, disregarding Calypso mentioning her name when he hadn't asked for it.
"Jackson?" Calypso managed to stutter out. Even the surrounding students that had been casually lounging had decided to look at the lone Atlantean heir.
"What's the Atlantean heir doing here?" One of the students voiced out disapprovingly. Perhaps he was of the Commonwealth. Those from Atlantean heritage and those from the Commonwealth always had their differences.
"I don't believe that concerns you." Percy replied with a certain threat interlaced with his words.
"Now Calypso did you find my schedule?" He asked hurriedly hoping not to get into issues in the first day within the Academy.
"Atlantean scum. You've been neglecting your duty to the alliance. You've been cooped up in your lands. While we of the Commonwealth have provided most of the brawn and intellect for this war." The insult cracking Percy's calm demeanor.
Calypso noticed how Percy's wonderful eyes seemed to darken. The room temperature seemed to drop drastically as he dropped his head. His hand clutched in a fist. The chandeliers in the lounge began to dance in an odd manner. The extravagant royal red rugs began to shake as the entire structure began to shake as a whole.
"I will let you insult me. But once you begin to insult my father's realm, I will not let that go unpunished." Percy said as he began to make his way to the lowly noble from the Commonwealth.
The unnamed nobleman noticed that he had fucked up the moment Percy showcased he was blessed by nature. The harshest part of nature, the ability to control and manifest earthquakes. The nobleman began to put his hands up in a surrendering position realizing that the Atlantean was very serious with his threat.
Percy grabbed him by the collar of his coat as he lifted him up in the air. With one swift motion he slammed him into a table as the wooden crafted table was crushed beneath the nobleman. He looked at the unconscious nobleman with apathy. His punishment was correct. Just as quickly as the commotion started it had ended. The room temperature slowly returned to normal as Percy's demeanor turned into a calm one. Easily shifting from anger to calmness. Just as the seas did. The tide could be calm one second before the tides could aggressively begin to grow and kill.
"So, Calypso is my schedule ready now?" Percy asked with a smile once again as the remaining students tended to the unconscious nobleman while also staying away as far as possible from the Atlantean heir.
"Uh yes." Calypso murmured hurriedly as she quickly handed the parchment with the classes into his hand. Whilst also looking at the nobleman who no doubt had broken bones.
"Oh, who do I speak about housing questions?" Percy backtracked almost forgetting that he was going to have to stay at the academy. Something he felt he would never feel accustomed to.
"You will have to direct those question to Chiron our combat expert. He's in charge of housing situations. You are housed based on how advanced you are battle wise. That way those who are of the same level strength wise can have classes together." Calypso concluded. No doubt in her mind he would place with those that belonged to the Council of the Transcendent Ten.
"Thank you, oops I almost forgot." Percy was about to walk away before returning to Calypso. He grabbed her hand and planted a soft kiss on the back of her hand. She was surprised at first before she felt heat burst throughout her entire body. In her face, her stomach, and her legs.
"No problem. Anytime." She managed to smile.
Percy was thankful that his father had enforced the necessity for him to learn how to read. Or else he would've been lost throughout the series of corridors within the main structure. Alas after exiting the main entrance and entering the training arena throughout trial and error he found who he presumed was Chiron.
The sad reality was that Percy was disappointed. Chiron the renowned trainer of heroes was crippled. He needed a cane for support in order to walk. His movements were slow. It was expected for his motor reflexes to be slow since he was nearly paralyzed. However, Percy realized that the brown-haired man was still a sound technician as he pointed out the flaws of two combatants within the arena. His brown eyes very intent on the stance and reaction time of his students. The way his face scrunched when they made an error all the more reinforced that Chiron still had what it took to churn out soldiers.
Percy once again cleared his throat as the surrounding seven students looked at him. Not all to happy that his disturbance ceased their training and studying. The two combatants were from different regions. The blonde-haired teenager was from the Commonwealth. His jeweled embroidered tunic was enough for Percy to know he was of Royalty. The tamed haircut he had also reinforced that the Commonwealth was very strict. His rigid posture that was enforced since birth also a dead giveaway.
The other boy was younger by perhaps two years. He was from the Nether Region. His all black tunic and cloak was enough to differentiate the three nations. That and the skull ring on his left index finger was the symbol of the Nether Region. His falcata sword emitted black smoke which made Percy sense death was near. It instilled a sense of dread, a feeling he had never felt before.
"A new student?" Chiron asked skeptically, disbelieving that the student could be this late to the academy.
"Yes. My name is Percy Jackson of Atlantis." Percy responded as the surrounding students began to stir uncomfortably.
"Perfect. Just what we needed. The weakest nation of the alliance to think he stands on the same level as those from the Commonwealth and Nether Region." A beautiful girl responded. Her beauty was elegant, with the most piercing gray eyes. Almost as if swords were staring at his soul. Her rare blonde curls cascading on her shoulders.
"I don't believe I was speaking to you." Percy was tired of the constant pestering from those from the Commonwealth. They were very biased since their kingdom was the most numerous, population wise. Yet that was why their casualties were higher. Followed by the Nether Region. Atlantis was last as they barely sent troops as they were intent on protecting their nation first.
"I've just come here to know where my dorm room will be." Percy decided not to push anyone's buttons.
"You are situated by your progress strength wise. Usually we determine that by a duel. I wish I could call one of my beginner students. But alas you will have to take one of students on the Transcendent Council. The ten best students in the entire academy." Chiron revealed to Percy who kept a straight face.
"At the moment we only have seven of those students. You will be taking on the tenth seat Clarisse La Rue." Chiron pointed to the biggest female Percy had ever seen. Not big in as in overweight, but as in muscular mass. What a very ugly trait in a woman Percy thought to himself. (Not really ugly, not making fun of strong girls). Her stringy hair was rather off-putting. Her dark eyes analyzed Percy, while her face looked rough with no emotion.
Percy looked at the training arena. It was made of smooth stone which meant if he would be slammed into the ground it would hurt immensely. Then he looked into the empty rafters where other students would be sitting during class. The dimly lit room with its red walls made it all the more daunting.
"I wouldn't want it any other way. I will be aiming for the first seat anyways." The blonde-haired boy clenched his fists as he looked at the rather proud Atlantean. He was the second seat he wouldn't let anyone best the first seat unless it was him.
Percy unslung his sword that was wrapped in the fine brown cloth with a single string. As he unwrapped his prized possession a smile appeared onto his face. He removed his parade gloves as he ran his calloused hand over the worn blue sheath of his longsword. The cross guard was a Trident, the middle prong being the thickest and serving as the Rain-guard, the division between the blade and cross guard. The outer prongs serving as pointy decorations. The steel blade itself was polished and sharp. The steel blade was dyed with a dark blueish tint, a custom of Atlantean culture. The most elaborate decoration of his sword was the lone and rather large pearl embedded in the pommel of the sword.
Percy closed his eyes as he got into a battle stance. The veneration of his sword not going unnoticed by his classmates within the training arena. The Atlanteans fought with a rather loose stance. No rigidness required as they believed that being loose meant their moves were more unpredictable.
Clarisse got into a rigid defensive stance as she awaited the first strike from her opponent. What she despised about fighting Percy, was the fact she had never fought an Atlantean. They were rumored to be very quick and decisive with their strikes. Which left little room for error for their opponent. That wasn't the only rumor she had heard. They were also labeled as demons with swords. Progressively getting stronger and quicker as the battle wore on.
Percy's sword was lazily pointed towards the ground awaiting instructions. He could already tell his opponent prioritized strength in her attacks. Therefore, he would have to be quicker and deceptive. Something unaccustomed to his style, but anyhow he couldn't reveal his entire fighting prowess to his rivals.
Percy struck first as Clarisse managed to block and push him back with her strength. Something he expected as he quickly ducked under her, letting her momentum carry her further. She analyzed that he fought with one hand. Never did he use two hands to wield his sword, which a longsword offered that option.
"You're very arrogant. You don't take me seriously enough to use both hands to wield your sword?" Clarisse asked, her anger growing by the moment.
"Nope." Percy riled her anger more as she began her barrage of strikes.
Percy dodged and ducked most strikes while blocking others. He sidestepped her attempt at piercing him with a straight lunge. That was the moment he needed to win. As she overextended with her lunge, he quickly got beside her. With one simple strike he managed to disarm the tenth seat. Clarisse attempted to retrieve her sword quickly but the Atlantean hastily stepped on the blade as he placed his sword on her shoulder near the outside of her neck.
"You lose." Percy stated seriously as Clarisse begrudgingly yielded to her opponent.
Chiron looked at Percy from his short sparring session with Clarisse. The grave mistake she made was allowing herself to get caught up in analyzing his fighting stance. Hoping to figure out his tendencies was her downfall. The Atlantean didn't have tendencies, he switched tactics from each strike Clarisse managed. He dodged one strike, blocked other, or tried to press her for advantage it was never the same strategy.
"Very well. A fine spar." Chiron commented as he struggled to move near Percy who waited for further instructions.
"An exemplary swordsman, a fine one." Chiron commented as he looked at his newest pupil. He was a combination of strength, speed, and length. He was just the right size for everything. He wasn't bulky enough for his speed to suffer, he wasn't scrawny for his strength to suffer, and he wasn't short that it would be difficult against longer and lankier swordsman or monsters.
"Very well you will be in the dorms with the Transcendent Ten Council. You will be the eleventh seat, a none official member. But you may challenge the tenth seat for her spot on the official council." Chiron concluded as Percy was confused. He had just beaten the tenth council hadn't he?
"I just defeated the tenth council member." Percy reinforced his thought process on why he wasn't a part of the council.
"This was a sparring session Percy. An official match must be won in front of the student population against a council member in order to obtain their seat. Now your peers will lead you to your new dormitory. Don't be late to class Percy." Chiron winked as Percy stood in the training arena dumbfounded that he had to fight the same tenth seat again in order to enter the Transcendent Ten.
"Hmph very lucky. Clarisse will not lose to you again." The curly blonde voiced her distaste as she followed after the second seat.
"What's your name. That way I can say it with pleasure when I take your spot on the council." Percy managed to say.
"Annabeth Chase, daughter to Athena Chase the best strategist in the entire alliance." She proudly stated as Percy realized that the Transcendent Ten were not going to be pushover's after all.
He sheathed his precious sword and once again wrapped it in the fine brown cloth. He looked at the training arena and realized perhaps the academy actually had things to offer…
