Chapter Two:

Two months later….

Bella paced back and forth in her room. She didn't want to go to school today. She would much rather sneak over to LaPush and find out how Jacob could still be sick. She knew that Charlie had learned that several of the teenagers at the reservation were under quarantine due to some sort of mono outbreak. Charlie had forced her to go to the doctor and have a check-up once he found out. The doctor gave her a clean bill of health which made Charlie relax but it still didn't give her peace. She didn't understand why she couldn't talk to Jacob. Sure, he might be sick but he could talk, right?

Charlie told her that the Indians did things differently than they did. He felt it was best to respect Billy's wishes and that once Jacob was well he was positive that Jacob would come over to give her the good news himself. However, Bella couldn't fight this nagging feeling there was more to this story than they were being led to believe.

"Bella let's go. You are going to be late." Charlie called out to her from downstairs.

Bella swore under her breath as she grabs her coat and books. She knew it was best to follow Charlie's instructions but it still irk her.

"I have to work late today. One of my deputies is out on maternity leave." Charlie informs her as he puts his coat on and follows her out of the house.

"Wow! Maureen had her baby already?" Bella wondered if Charlie had shared this news before now and if she had just ignored it. Her mind was all over the place these days.

"No Maureen isn't due for another month. Mitch and his wife adopted a newborn. He is allowed to take off maternity leave for the happy occasion." Charlie chuckles.

"That's cool." Bella was impressed with the care they took for the policemen in this town.

"If you say so. It sucks for the rest of us who have to pick up his shift." Charlie shrugs his shoulders.

"Sorry." Bella smiles understandingly at her father as she jumps into the pickup truck.

"Be careful on the roads. It's supposed to snow later today." Charlie warns her.

"I will Charlie." She rolls her eyes playfully and waves goodbye at him.

Driving to school she tries to focus on the day ahead but she can't seem to focus on anything except the need to see if Jacob is well with her own eyes or at the very least hear his voice. Their first kiss left her hungry for more. She wonders if after all this time had passed if he would still be interested in her. She wondered if she should send him flowers or some other gift to cheer him up? Isn't that what couples do for their significant other when they were ill?

Pulling into the parking lot she quickly got out of the vehicle and proceeded to cautiously make her way across the ice-covered parking lot. She saw several people were slipping and falling and knowing how clumsy she could be on a dry parking lot she prays she makes it across without a visit to the nurse's office.

She was almost victorious until she started to step up on the sidewalk when she felt her foot slip out from under her and her body went up in the air and landed hard on the concrete ground beneath her.

"Ouch!" Bella cried out as her head pulsated with a cold hard pain.

"You are unbelievable." A voice laced with disgust boomed over her.

Opening her eyes she saw a guy who looks so beautiful it hurts to look at him.

She wants to tell yell at him for being so rude but before she can open her mouth to get out the words she feels a set of strong arms lifting her up and carrying her into the school. Everyone, of course, is staring at her in disbelief. She isn't sure why? She saw with her own two eyes others falling outside. She wasn't the first or the last.

"Thank you. I think." Bella mumbles as she feels a sharp pain at the back of her head.

"You need the nurse." The stranger informs her without any emotion.

"Probably." Bella agrees and starts to walk away but the room begins to spin.

"Seriously?" He growls as she falls back into his arms once again.

"Sorry." Bella mumbles before she faints for the first time in her life.

"Charlie I swear she will be fine." Nurse Hatcher angrily snaps at the Sherriff who threatens to call for an ambulance if Bella didn't wake up in the next two minutes.

"Dad?" Bella opens up her eyes and sees her father staring at her, fear evident all over his face.

"Damn it, Bella. You scared me to death." Charlie sighs, his face softens despite the anger in his voice.

"Sorry." Bella realized she has said that several times today.

"What happen to you?" Charlie demands.

"I think I fell." Bella winces from the pain and the cold ice that was placed on the back of her head to help ease the swelling.

"You think? How many fingers am I holding up?" Charlie lifted up his hand and place three fingers up.

"Three." Bella groans. It hurt to keep her eyes open for too long.

"Good. But I'm still taking her home." Charlie glared up at the nurse.

"That's fine. But trust me she doesn't need to go to the hospital. If she starts getting sick or fainting then yes, by all means, take her right away."

The nurse clucks her tongue and shook her head at the Sheriff before walking away.

"Don't argue with me. You are going home." Charlie warns her as he helps her up onto her feet.

"I'm not." Bella didn't feel so hot so she thought it was best to go home.

"Where is my stuff?" Bella looks around the room alarmingly.

"I have it." The voice she heard moments for passing out suddenly filled the room.

She felt an eerie cold sensation course up her spine. She suspected it was only due to the cold ice on her head.

"Thank you." Bella looks at the face she merely glimpsed at before and realizes she wasn't wrong before. This guy was too beautiful to be real. He reminded her of an old marble statue she saw in a museum once when she was younger.

"Sure." Edward Cullen nodded. His dark brown eyes darted between her and her father.

"I suppose you are the one who brought her in here." Charlie scoffed.

"Yes, sir," Edward replied compliantly.

Charlie wasn't sure what to make of him. He was a polite kid and Charlie knew of his family and their lavish home and the stories of their wealth. He really tried his best to keep out of their way and out of their business.

"Thank you." Charlie said quickly before grabbing Bella's things and then helping her into a wheelchair to take her out of the room.

Bella smiled roughly up at her rescuer and wish she could say something to thank him properly but the pain was unbearable.

Once Charlie got her home and up the stairs, she fell asleep and was awoken hours later by the sound of her father tapping on her door.

"Yes." Bella sat up in the bed and let out a sigh of relief. The pain was more bearable than before.

"I got you some aspirin and water." Charlie set them on her nightstand.

"Are you hungry? You should probably eat something." Charlie offered.

"Sure. I think there is a can of soup and crackers in the kitchen." Bella requested.

"Good. I will be back momentarily with your food." Charlie rushes out of the room.

Bella took the medicine and step out of the bed. Feeling the goose-egg lump on the back of her head she sighed heavily. It was just like her to cause self-inflicted pain. Reaching into her drawer she took a clean fresh suit of clothing and step into the bathroom to change. She went back to her room and step inside to find Charlie with a tray. He still looks worried about her.

"Dad I'm fine. The pain is almost all gone." She assured him.

"It scared me. The nurse said you fainted. You never faint, do you?" Charlie realized he didn't know a lot about her past health history.

"No, I normally do not." Bella laughs softly.

"Good." Charlie laughs along with her.

"Oh, I almost forgot that Cullen boy brought your schoolwork for today." Charlie points over to her desk.

"Cullen boy?" Bella asks with a confused frown.

"Oh, did you not know who rescued you. Edward Cullen. The Cullens are like the richest people in town. They keep to themselves, for the most part, seem nice enough. I've never had any problems with them personally." Charlie explains.

"I think I remember Jessica telling me about them. I didn't pay much attention. I don't normally hang out with the rich folks." Bella shrugs her shoulders looking unimpressed with the news about her hero.

"Of course you don't." Charlie shakes his head and smiles affectionately at her.

"I'm going to eat and do my homework. I will feel better tomorrow." Bella vowed.

"Good. I will check on you later." Charlie presses his lips swiftly and tenderly on her forehead before rushing out of the room.

Bella simply smiles at the closed door. It was so like her father to be embarrassed about expressing his feelings. She shared the trait with him.

Sitting at her desk she picks up the spoon and takes a few bites of her warm soup and opens up a book and within a couple of hours she had completed all of her assignments with a full tummy.

Her eyes were droopy with sleep. She was surprised she could sleep after spending half the day in bed. Opening up her window she let the cool night air seep into her warm room and jumps underneath the blanket of her cozy bed. Closing her eyes she wonders how Jacob was feeling today and then it occurs to her that since this morning it was the first time she had thought about him at all. A surge of guilt floods her heart.

Then her minds cross over to the fall and the way that this Edward guy spoke to her when he lifted her up off the ground. She was almost positive that she had been the only person there when she fell and then like a flash he stood over her. Why was this the first time she noticed him? The guy was gorgeous. How could she not recall anything about him until today? She would have to ask Jessica in the morning. Jessica knew all of the gossip and everything about everyone in town. She was curious as to why it felt as if Edward Cullen was upset that he had to rescue her but why?

Closing her eyes she fell back into a deep sleep and knew in the morning she would have her answers about Edward but sadly she would once again be in the dark about what was going on with her sweet Jacob in the mysterious world of LaPush.

Jacob wanted nothing more than to climb up the side of Bella's home and jump into her window but knew if he did he would come to regret it later. He wasn't prepared to answer her questions. Billy gave him the messages every day when he returns from his training and scouting. He felt awful for allowing her to believe he was deathly sick. However, he knew she could never learn the truth. It was a vow they all made to the council. No one outside of their parents knew the truth about why certain boys in the tribe were suddenly changing overnight and hanging around one another like a pack of wolves. The only time they were apart was when they went home to sleep.

"Don't do it, Jacob." Embry walks up to his best friend's side, placing his hand on his shoulder.

"I know." Jacob growled, his fists curled up by his sides.

"Sorry." Embry jerks his hand back and lowers his head submissively.

"It's fine." Jacob cough, forcing the anger and frustration he was feeling deep down within. It wasn't Embry's fault that he couldn't go to her. Just like himself, Embry was bound to the same rules.

"What are you going to do about her?" Embry asks curiously.

"I don't know. I just ...I just know I can't walk completely away from her." Jacob sighed heavily. He could smell her scent from where he stood. He sensed she had been in pain earlier and he didn't know how that was possible. He wanted to ask Sam but feared Sam would complain that he needed to keep his mind on more important tasks than Bella.

"Surely we aren't expected to be celibate for the rest of our lives." Embry snarled.

"No. We will have to breed eventually so that the legend continues." Jacob snorted rudely.

"Breed? You make us sound like dogs." Embry laughs but he saw Jacob was not sharing his sense of humor tonight.

"Close enough. I just ….there is this longing I feel that is so powerful." Jacob shares with his friend the emotions he is struggling with.

"She was your first love dude. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before someone comes around that helps you forget her." Embry offered hope for Jacob's longing heart.

"That's just it. I don't want anyone but her." Jacob cries out.

"Sure you feel that way now but the stronger we get perhaps the less these emotions will be." Embry hoped like hell he was right. Watching and hearing Jacob's thoughts made him want Bella.

"Maybe." Jacob forces himself to walk back into the woods, while Embry followed closely behind him.

The two of them shifted and raced along one another back home in hopes they were completely alone in the woods.

Edward Cullen walk up the stairs to his room where he finds his sister, Alice sitting on his small bed wearing a silk robe as if she was going to bed and staring out at the woods.

"Why are you here?" Edward asks gently.

"Why did you help her today?" Alice questions his unusual compassion for the ordinary human girl.

"I didn't mean to. I just...I saw it happening and then the next second I was standing over her." Edward replies honestly.

"There is something wrong with her." Alice whispers.

"What do you mean? Is she unwell?" Edward asks with sudden concern.

"No. Not an illness. Something else. Something unnatural." Alice shakes her head and stands up abruptly.

"Unnatural? That's a bit vague." Edward snickers rudely.

"I can't see much about her. It's like a brick wall in front of me. I've never met anyone I couldn't see things about if I concentrated on them hard enough." Alice explained.

"Maybe you are losing your touch." Edward joked.

"I doubt it." Alice rolled her eyes sarcastically but forming a smile on her face as she gives her brother a quick hug.

"Be cautious with her. In fact, if I were you I would stay far away from her." Alice warns him as she slips out of the room quiet as a mouse.

Edward remains standing there and looks out his bedroom window and wondered if Alice's advice was worth heeding or if it was time to change things up a bit. The rest of the family was always nagging at him to do try new things.

Closing his eyes he recalled Bella's face just seconds before she fainted. She looked at him like she was staring up at an angel instead of the monster he truly was. It felt nice for that mere second to be seen as something pure and good. Opening his eyes he pushes the ridiculous thoughts from his mind and remembered all the lives he took and that was why he still had years of atoning to do before he could ever forgive himself.

Bella walk into her room and found Jacob standing next to her bed. He appeared taller somehow and more muscular. His eyes look at her as if he was an animal and she was his next meal. He was starving and she wanted nothing more than to feed his appetite.

She felt the center between her legs moistening as she steps closer to him and his hand reaches out, pulling her right up against his bare naked chest. Her free hand touches his skin and marvels at how smooth and yet hot he felt beneath her touch.

Lifting her head she looks up at him and feels as if she would faint. His face was so beautiful and his smile melted her heart but his lips, oh those lips, made her legs tremble.

"Kiss me, Bella. Kiss me like you want me." His voice was hoarse with need.

"I will." Bella promised as she stood on tiptoes and placed her lips over his.

It was even more delicious than before. She wonders just how far she should go. She felt like she was high on a drug. For the first time ever, she no longer feared her feelings or her own body. She felt the freedom to explore and do what came naturally.

She moved her mouth from his and began to trail kisses across his cheek, tasting his skin with the tip of her tongue, flicking upward to brush his closed eyelids. Jacob's hands slid beneath her nightgown, she shivered as his fingers brushed lightly over the bare satin softness of her thighs until they located her pulsating core. His fingers found her nakedness as an invitation to do as he wished and within moments his fingers stroke her and teased her until she nearly fainted from her first-ever orgasm.

Bella thought she might die. It was better than she could have ever imagined. Opening her eyes she looks up to watch as he tastes her on his fingertips. Her cheeks burn with embarrassment but somewhere deep within she was shockingly pleased.

Bang! Bang!

"Bella?" Charlie called out from the other side of her closed door.

"Uh?" Bella sat up in her bed. Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest. Everything she had seen and felt had only been from a dream. A delicious and naughty dream. That had never happened to her before. Pulling the blanket off of her she looks down between her legs and could feel the wetness between them.

"Bella are you okay?" Charlie called out again with concern in his voice.

"Yes. I'm getting up." Bella cried out.

"Okay."

Bella stood up and notice the pain was no longer there, well at least not on her head. Now the only pain she felt was coming from between her legs. She wonder if this was what it was like for guys when they woke up with morning wood?

She knew if she was going to manage to get to school and behave halfway like herself she was going to need to take a long cold shower before she started out on her day.

Bella had not been in school for more than five minutes before Jessica and Angela had her pin in a corner of the girl's bathroom.

"What gives Swans?" Jessica demanded as she studied Bella like she was some sort of alien.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Bella cried out, glaring between the two of her so-called friends.

"Edward Cullen carried you into school! That's what the hell is up!" Jessica exclaimed.

Bella rolled her eyes with disgust. Of course, Jessica would be pissed that a guy like Edward came anywhere near her. When Mike tried to make a move on her shortly after she arrived Jessica made it perfectly clear that she had dibs on the boy and she wasn't about to let someone like Bella take him away from her. Bella was, of course, insulted that Jessica thought that she would possibly want a guy as stupid as Mike. He was a great friend and all but there was zero attraction for her and Mike.

"Well, if you fell and crack your head open I'm sure he would do you the same honor." Bella smirk and push the two girls out of her way and proceeded to wash her hands.

"Did you fall on purpose?" Jessica asks while glaring suspiciously at Bella.

"Umm….feel this bump. No guy is worth this pain." Bella laugh but her eyes darted toward Angela with disbelief that she was partaking in Jessica's silly questioning.

"I told her that you got hurt somehow but she wouldn't believe me." Angela tried to attempt at apologizing for her friend's bad behavior.

"It's just strange that Edward would ...well...talk to you." Jessica snarled.

"Why do you dislike me so much?" Bella turns and stares straight into Jessica's eyes. She couldn't fathom why Jessica even bothered to speak to her. Every time Bella tried to be nice, Jessica always said or did something to make Bella feel less about herself. She only hung out with her because she did enjoy hanging with Angela, mostly when Jessica wasn't around. Jessica and Angela had been friends since pre-k and she knew she would never come between the two of them.

"It's not that I dislike you. I just...I...okay I can be a bitch. I admit it." Jessica was no longer so cocky. Normally Bella would just play the submissive role. Jessica was used to that personality. She had been friends with Angela for years.

"Yes. Yes, you can." Bella quickly agrees with her without any remorse.

"Okay. I just had like the biggest crush on Edward last year and he pretty much told me he didn't date local girls. It hurt. Like really hurt me." Jessica confesses to both of them.

"That's his loss then." Angela replies with her usual support for her best friend.

"Angela's right. You don't need him. Besides, I think you have your hands full with Mike." Bella smiles softly at Jessica.

Jessica smiles back and Bella realizes it was the first genuine smile the girl had ever given her.

"Look, he just happened to be there when I fell and, to be honest, he seemed pissed that I fell. I found him beautiful to look at but his personality is seriously that of an ass in my opinion." Bella confesses to them.

"Yeah, you definitely met the same guy I did." Jessica lets out a loud laugh of relief.

"Let's go to class. I really need to catch up." Bella grabs her stuff and walks out of the bathroom. She managed to make it to the first period and set down in her usual spot when she felt her flesh suddenly grow cold. Glancing up at the vents in the ceiling she wondered if they had turned the air on by accident. Looking around the room to see if anyone else felt it, she suddenly saw Edward walking past her and taking a seat next to her. His face showed no emotions but his eyes glance over at her for a brief moment and she thought he might crack a smile but instead, he opens his laptop and ignore her for the remainder of the class period.

She wondered if he transferred to her class or was he always in there before and she had been too caught up in her daydreams of Jacob to ever notice before.

Once class was over she took her time grabbing her things in hopes of getting a chance to tell Edward thank you for bringing her lessons by. He really didn't have to do that and now that she was more clear-minded she wondered why he had? Up until their chance meeting they never spoke to one another. What was his game?

However, Edward swiftly left the room. She wondered if he had some sort of superpower like that of the Flash. He was quick on his feet.

Making her way to the second period she found her thoughts moving into the direction of Jacob. She was going to call his house after school. She was going to warn Billy if she didn't hear his voice by the end of the week she would drive over there. She needed to see him, especially after her hot sex dream. She couldn't shake the feeling that Jacob needed her. They might have known each other for only a short time and not really been on a date but they shared a friendship that was unlike any she had ever experienced before now.

Jacob followed Sam and Paul into the local bar. It didn't matter that he was underage no one was about to stop him, especially not now that he displayed the pack's tattoo on his upper arm. Only the elders knew the true significance of it, the rest had their own theories, mostly fearing the guys thinking they were somehow apart of some bad dealings. Normally Jacob would be bothered that anyone thought poorly of him but these days he had more important things to worry about other than his reputation. He was too busy taking turns guarding their territory and feeling the heaviness of the burden of keeping everyone here on the rez safe, regardless of what they thought about him.

Sam and Paul both ordered a beer while Jacob shook his head no at the offer. He wanted to keep a straight head on his shoulders. Tonight was his one night off this week but he suspected that if more vampires showed up he would be given a call for help. So far they had only killed two but they suspected more would soon follow.

"I guess you are wondering why we brought you here." Paul stated, his voice expressing his disapproval of Jacob and his role in their pack. Jacob wanted to rip him a new asshole every time Paul slip into his thoughts. He knew Paul found him to be too weak for their elite group. Unlike the rest of them, he wasn't hyped up on some power play and didn't see himself as some sort of "God" among their people. If he had been given a choice he would not want this life they led.

"Not really." Jacob pressed his lips together and placed both of his hands behind his head and glared evenly back at Paul.

"Look, we both know you didn't exactly sign up for this but now that you are one of us you need to stop being such a dick head just because the rest of us feel that this part we play is an honor to not only ourselves but to our people." Paul snarled and took a long swig of his beer.

"I'm the dick head?" Jacob snapped back.

Sam placed himself between the two of them. He towered over them both by a few inches but both Jacob and Paul had serious tempers when riled up.

"Not here." Sam's voice commanded obedience.

"Fine." Jacob agreed. He wasn't in the mood to make a scene here in public. He also didn't trust his wolf not to make a sudden entrance. Paul brought out the worst in him.

"Yeah." Paul agreed too and finished off his drink, grabbing another one.

"What Paul is trying to explain is that we both know you are unhappy about this. I get why its not what you wanted to do with your life. You probably had dreams of leaving here and being something important. But here we are. The faster you accept what it is, the better it will be for the rest of us who have to suffer from your thoughts when you aren't concentrating. Your mood affects all of us." Sam explained in a deeper context in hopes of making Jacob understand that the pack felt everything and it affected all of them as a whole.

Sam, however, didn't want to mention how strange it was that Jacob was the only one who seemed to oppose his orders and often seem to ignore the demands that the others immediately obeyed without hesitation. The only time he had to struggle with his Alpha demands was when Jacob opposed them. It weakened his powers among the others. He talked to the council in private about it and the only answer they could give him was that Jacob came from the Alpha line. The only reason Sam could possibly be the Alpha with this generation was due to him being the eldest of the group and the first to transform.

Sam wondered how long before Jacob grew too strong for him to control. What would become of the pack then? Would they follow Jacob? What role would he play, a beta perhaps? Did he really want this burden to bear?

"I can't help how I feel. You have someone to go home to every night while the rest of us remain alone. We want the chance to be in a normal relationship." Jacob explained the major reason the guys were unhappy with their situation.

"Relationships? Wow. You guys just want to get lay, is that it?" Paul let out a long hard laugh.

Jacob rolled his eyes and ignored his Beta and continued to stare at Sam for a solution to their problem.

"Look, I might be able to let you guys see girls here on the reservation. If they found out by accident they would keep our secret. They are loyal to the tribe. However, Bella isn't one of us. No white man or woman for that matter has ever known about us. I'm not going to be the first pack leader to let our secret out into the world." Sam argued.

"I don't want these girls." Jacob looked around the club at the half-dressed women who were practically drooling at the three of them. He could smell the lust and desire from each of them the second they step inside of the small enclosed building. It made him sick to his stomach.

"Too bad." Paul bark.

"Why not? Are your people not good enough for you?" Sam knew he was pushing Jacob's button but he was getting tired of Jacob's snobby attitude these days.

"It's not that. I just...I don't long for them." Jacob whispered harshly.

"Long for? What the hell is wrong with him?" Paul laughs rudely and grabs another beer.

"What makes Emily so special? I mean, you broke up with Leah Clearwater! Did it have something to do with you becoming ...well this?" Jacob asks curiously. It was a question everyone wanted to be answered. Emily was sweet and had a heart of gold but Leah and Sam were inseparable for several years and then overnight he broke up with her and turn to Emily. A few weeks later Emily is wounded by a bear and despite her scars, Sam stayed by her side and appears to love her even more.

"That's none of your business." Sam's voice gave out a warning that this was one subject he would not share with Jacob.

"Fine. I know that I belong to Bella. I can feel it with every fiber of my being." Jacob said firmly.

"Perhaps that is true. But for now, it's forbidden." Sam slapped his large hand on the countertop, shaking the entire structure. Paul laughs loudly as he witnesses everyone in the room practically shit their pants.

"Are we done?" Jacob didn't back down in the least. He felt no need to submit to his Alpha. His feelings for Bella went far deeper and was stronger than any order or punishment that Sam Uley could give him.

"Yes." Sam growled in defeat.

Jacob turns and marches out of the bar.

Sam took a deep breath and exhaled.

"Bella is going to be a problem. I'm not going to let Jacob ruin this for us because he is too damn horny over some skinny white chick." Paul warns his Alpha.

"I know." Sam agreed Bella Swan was going to be Jacob's downfall. She was a weakness that they couldn't afford. He needed Jacob but more importantly, he needed Jacob with his head completely in the game. If not for Jacob's life then definitely for the rest of the pack who were greatly influenced by the stubborn young man.

Sam knew there would be more vampires. All of the council suspected the reason why the pack was larger than it had been in the past was due to a larger threat heading their way. It was his responsibility to be prepared for it and to try and keep every one of his guys alive when it was all over. No one and nothing would deter him from doing what was best for ALL of them as a pack.

A/N: As you can tell I'm not really using a Beta, LOL. But it is fun writing again and I hope you guys enjoy my new and improved version of Twilight. As you can also tell, this virus outbreak has given me a lot of time on my hands. So I promise this story will be completed very soon. I'm doing my best not to go into every detail. Let me know how everyone is doing and who is still reading fanfiction! Be safe and be good! Xoxo August
