Chapter Two

Beast Boy did the first thing he could think of. He spoke as she got patched up. His voice was soft and clear, never once breaking contact with her hand. It reassured her, evident by her breathing. The paramedic found nothing serious though he still recommended getting her checked out by a hospital.

The police came to ask them some questions. Beast Boy told the men that she has been through a lot. They simply said they would keep it short and simple. "Any identification, little lady?"

She said not a word though her eyes were wandering around. Making sure that the danger was indeed over. Her grip tightened just as Beast Boy told her to breathe. Taking a long deep breath, she revealed her name.

"Katie. Katie Burns" She took out her ID.

They asked her two more questions and a number to reach her for any follow-up questions. And as they left, Beast Boy promised he would take her home. He could have used his power, but it seems Katie preferred to hold his arm the entire time. So the entire way home, they walked. Since the destruction of the mall, the rest of the night was relatively quiet. Soon, the teens transitioned to a more serene scene at the outskirts of the city. The suburban area was a nice change as Katie gestured to a house with cyan roof tiles. Knocking on the door, he carefully explained the situation to her parents. They were relieved to hear their daughter was fine. Spook yes, but relatively alright. Katie thanked her savior. Being at her house, she felt much better as her anxiety took a dip. She could speak coherently, embracing her hero with her arms wrapped around his neck.

She was that close to dying at her job; that literally just happened. Letting go, she apologized. Being with her must have bothered him.

"It didn't. Seriously, you're fine. I'm just glad you're alright, Katie."

She smiled, but that quickly disappeared. Her hand guided him to the stoop outside her house. "I remembered seeing you and the rest of your friends."

"Well, we do save the day once in a while." Beast Boy commented with a cheeky smile.

She shook her head. "I used to work at a video rental store. Some villain... I think Control Freak came to make a complaint."

"Oh, yeah! Wicked Scary, still one of my favorite horror films."

"You guys saved the day, but I couldn't work there anymore. Like how I can't work at the mall. The truth is, I don't handle stress very well. When I close my eyes, I can still see falling debris. Like I see characters popping out from the cassette tapes... All alone..." Her hands easily trembled by the mere thought.

Beast Boy didn't know what to say. The trauma this girl must have endured.

"You should go now. Thanks again for saving my life." They stood up together, Katie planted a quick kiss. Turning around, she tried to leave. Only to be stopped by Beast Boy.

"I'll come visit you."

"Thank You."

Their conjoined hand felt warm, even after they let go.
