His eyes fluttered open. He tried to sit up but was wracked with pain no matter which way he moved. He noticed the IV in his arm. He looked down at his heavily bandaged torso. He remember being teleported back to the Institute and trying to talk to a nearly lifeless Rogue as they collapsed in the front lawn. After that everything was a blur. He now found himself alone in the Med Lab, frantically wondering what happened to his love.
"Chere," he called weakly.
Nothing, no response of any kind. His heart began to race, a single tear rolled down his cheek. He heard a gasp, looking over to see his beautiful emerald eyed angel. She was perfectly fine and alive. She gawked at him from the doorway for a moment before running over, throwing her arms around him. He moaned in pain but wrapped his arms around her as well. He felt her body shaking. She was crying, she was crying for him. He wrapped his arms tighter around her, ignoring the pain it caused. She placed kisses all over the side of his face. She pulled away and looked at him.
"You stupid Swamp Rat! Do you have any idea how worried I was about you?! I thought you were going to die," she choked out, "You can't do that to me Remy!"
He smiled, "Takes more than a couple of scratches to kill this Cajun."
She wiped her eyes, "Leave it to you to make a joke out of almost dying."
She pulled a chair up next to the bed. He thought it was a little ironic that this time she was the one sitting in the chair while he lay in the hospital bed. He smiled to himself, Mystique was wrong. She did care about him, about keeping him safe and more importantly, alive. Despite all the things he felt he lacked, she cared for him, saw something in him that no one else ever had. He closed his eyes as he felt her hand running through his hair, felt her lips kiss his forehead. He opened his eyes again to see her smiling at him. That perfect, beautiful smile that made his heart melt.
"Are you hungry? I can go get us some food," she started to walk towards the door.
He grabbed her hand, "Non. I'm alright petite. I'm sorry for basically accusing you of not trusting me. You asked a question based on my memories."
She waved her other hand, "Don't worry about that sugar. It's all water under the bridge."
Logan smiled from the doorway, "Welcome back to reality Gumbo. Hank says you're gonna be here for a while so get some rest. I'll have Half Pint bring down some food," he turned to leave, "But no funny business in the Med Lab. Hank will have an aneurysm," he called over his shoulder.
Rogue turned back to Remy, a small laugh escaping her lips. He motioned for her to lay on the bed with him. She happily obliged, carefully curling up next to him. They were content in their own little world, unaware of the icy blue eyes watching them. She didn't understand what someone of his caliber saw in the former goth girl. Yes, Rogue was beautiful but so was she. Maybe it was the power that he liked about her or the eyes, they did seem to penetrate to the soul. She was polite but seemed so rough around the edges. Maybe he likes a girl that wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Emma just couldn't understand, she could be anything he wanted, yet he wanted Rogue. She'd asked around and found out that Rogue only recently gained control of her poisonous skin. But even before that he aggressively pursued her. The X-men had fought with him before and he'd be aggressive, ruthless and insane yet he'd always pull back when he faced her. Even going as far as to single her out, just to be near her. His own way of protecting her.
Emma could see the appeal, the challenge of going after someone untouchable. But once she became touchable the appeal should have stopped, yet it somehow seemed to draw him even closer to her. Emma scuffed, besides her powers there was nothing special about this girl. She would figure out a way to seduce him. She stalked off, almost running into Kitty on the way. Kitty shook her head as she entered the room. She was about to speak when she noticed that both Remy and Rogue were had fallen asleep. She set the food down quietly, tiptoeing back out the way she came.
"See was today so hard," the angel asked.
"I almost lost Remy," Rogue fumed, "So yeah, it was hard. I refuse to risk his life just so I can learn some dang control. You have to be crazy if you think I will."
The angel rolled her eyes, "You know that he's at the final battle so obviously he isn't gonna die anytime soon. I know you want to protect him, but we are running out of time. Apocalypse isn't gonna wait for anyone. You're nowhere near as strong or ready as you need to be. Staying curled up in a hospital bed with Remy isn't doing anyone any favors. You need to be training more with Professor and Logan."
"SHUT UP," Rogue woke with a start.
Remy jerked awake, "What's wrong? Who's hurt?"
She shook her head, "It's fine, just a bad dream. Go back to sleep, you need your rest."
She closed her eyes as he snuggled back into her and tried her best to sleep. She turned her head and noticed the sandwiches on the table next to them. She looked back at Remy, who appeared to be sound asleep again. She sat up and grabbed the turkey sandwich.
He sat up and peered around her, "Whatcha got there?"
She spun around, the tray in her hand. He picked up his sandwich in one hand and his drink in the other. She watched in amazement as he inhaled everything. He smiled brightly when he was done. She couldn't help but laugh at his child-like expression. She wiped his face before starting her own food. Once finished she put the tray back on the table next to the bed. She turned around to find Remy fast asleep again. She shook her head; he must be exhausted. She leaned closer to brush the hair off his face. He unconsciously wrapped his good arm around her shoulder, pulling her into him. He yawned and she smiled, happy to feel him at peace for once. Emma stood outside and watched as Rogue kissed Remy's face, causing him to stir. She watched as his face lit up before placing a small kiss on her lips. Their affections for each other made her want to gag. She always got what she wanted.
She smirked and stalked off, leaving the two of them alone, "And Remy, I want you."
