Random Briarfeather Wilds AU

(Bree and Jay are a little out of character here, sorry Xd)

A deep breath in, a deep breath out.

A deep breath in, a deep breath out.

A deep… breath in… a deep… breath out…

Bree remembered the advice she had been given for years to staying calm even as she stood blinking wide-eyed at what was going on in front of her. Okay screw being calm, this was her workshop!

"Aaaaeeee!" The brunette shrieked, breaking all pretenses of being calm and running straight for the door. What the hell had she just seen? Never mind what it was, what was she going to do about it?

Her face was probably hotter than a toaster by the time she left the workshop and slammed the door shut, and if she was honest it really messed with her head. Good grief she wasn't going to be able to look him in the eye for a while nor focus really. The inventor didn't stop running as she exited the room, continuing to run up the stairs like she was on fire. Who sent him down there? Why today? And for crying out loud, why didn't he alert me beforehand that he was going to be down there?

"Bree?" Cynthia's voice was beyond mildly confused as the dormant wild shot from the basement door sprinting like she was on fire. "What's going on?" The black haired vivid wild was perched casually on the counter of the dorm house's kitchen, Leon standing between her legs and leaning forward on one arm, who had twisted to look at Bree too, with her ankles casually crossed behind him. The mated pair were acting as they always did, practically smothering each other with affection when they were both home at the same time between Leon's ninja warrior training and Cynthia's YouTube and singing career.

Bree blinked at them, noticed their positioning, turned brighter red and ran faster if possible. Knocking straight into the wall as she put on the brakes at the second floor staircase. Running up those too with a rather panicked expression on her bright red face.

Cynthia watched her leave, blue eyes tentatively tracking her friend running up the stairs with a mystified gleam in her eyes. While Leon got bored halfway through and had turned back to his mate who was actually ignoring him as she watched Bree. "She's acting weird," Cynthia murmured as Leon shrugged and kissed her on the nose, amber eyes gleaming with loving affection for the girl in front of him.

"Bree's always weird," he told her in a low tone of his own, "she's a genius remember? Never acts normal."

Cynthia rolled her eyes and pulled a grape from the plate sitting beside her, popping it into her mouth and chewing, her confusion still visible in her eyes. "Not that weird, usually she doesn't bat an eyelash at virtually anything we do around her."

Leon cast her an amused look, "maybe it's because of what day it is today?" He stood up straight and lifted his bowl of cereal for lunch before taking a spoonful into his mouth and finishing his sentence telepathically to her. I mean it's probably a weird concept to someone who's barely ever kissed her mate.

Cynthia bobbed her head a little in agreement, "I guess," she agreed out loud still speaking in English via habit. "But still," she rested her arms around her mate's shoulders, carding her fingers of one hand through his thick messy hair, "it's still out of character for her."

Leon shrugged, swallowed, and then put his bowl down. "Relax Cia, now is not the time to be worrying about Bree of all people." He leaned in and pecked her on the lips, "she's smart enough to figure it out by herself."

Cynthia breathed a sigh of resignation but couldn't help herself to leaning forward and kissing him again, lingering for a moment before pulling back and letting their foreheads press themselves together. Her blue eyes sliding half closed in a relaxed fashion as she spoke. "I love you."

Leon decided to one up her by resting his arms loosely around her waist and speaking in Wivano. "Yuliono Cyliani." [I love you "My Beautiful Love"]

"Yax unas zija cila yui nia xaxa," [shut up and kiss me you idiot,] Cynthia purred and Leon complied with a rumbling purr of amusement.

Bree made it upstairs to her room and shut the door behind her, standing in the center of the room breathing heavily from her run from the basement clear up to her bedroom. Her messy bedroom consisting of tons and tons of blueprints, books, scattered prototypes, etc. Basically it was a continuation of her workshop down stairs whenever she was too tired to go all the way down there and back. What am I going to do?

Bree? A golden robotic yet life-like looking feline slinked out from under her bed, it's intelligent amber eyes locking onto the dormant wild. Are you alright?

Bree shook her head, no, not really Lion, she admitted sheepishly, there's a complicated mess downstairs in my workshop and I don't want to deal with it.

Lion quirked his head to one side, well would you like me to scout it out for you Bree?

No! Bree blurted and hastened to apologize when Lion jumped a little and his tail fluffed out like a gorse. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, she apologized and got down onto her knees to gently pet her cat's soft fur. I just don't want anyone or anything down there right now.

Can I ask why? Lion asked, confusion in the feline's tone of voice, isn't today a special day as well?

Well yes, but-

Bree, where are you?

Bree's eyes widened, that was the telepathic voice of a certain black haired mate of hers and he sounded pretty mischevious too. Umm…

Father, Lion requested, what's so special about today?

It's a human thing Lion, we don't really have any special today, Jay easily dismissed his question, now where did Bree disappear to?

She's up-

Lion! Don't give away my position unless you're prepared for me to die! Bree reprimanded and cut off her cat, speaking dramatically but also rather meaning her words.

She's overreacting Lion, don't listen to her, Jay coaxed the cat while Bree vigorously shook her head.

Don't do it! I will shut you down for a week! Bree threatened the feline as she scrambled up onto her bed and away from the door, intending to hold her breath and pretend she wasn't there.

Gotcha, Jay sounded rather pleased with himself as he caught Bree's intentions from their dormant bond. Upstairs in your room hiding from the door.

What? The words took a few moments to register in Bree's mind, wait, Jay that's unfair! Stay away from me you dirty rascal!

"No who's being mean?" Jay's voice came from the other side of the door and the black haired man casually strolled into the room. Casually wearing a button down dark blue shirt and black slacks with no tie and his glasses rimmed blue eyes twinkling with mirth and amusement. "I'm not going to kill you Bree, you know that."

"Stay back!" Bree scooted away from him as he approached her bed, brandishing a pillow like a weapon from her spot sitting on the bed.

Jay cast an amused look at her before the black haired man lunged, pouncing onto the bed.

"Noo! Jay come on!" Bree complained, bashing her mate repeatedly over the head with her pillow as he managed to surprise her and seized her around the waist. "I don't want to go!"

Jay rolled his eyes as he threw the smaller girl over his shoulder, unfazed by her beating him with a pillow. "Yes you do, you just don't like the holiday, you genius."

"I hate Valentines day!" Bree huffed over his shoulder and squirmed, making it hard to carry her, "it's a bunch of pink streamers and hearts and it's just pointless!"

Jay laughed a little, his hoarse laugh making Bree still slightly. Before he dropped her anyway and she scrambled back against the wall. "It's a human holiday Bree, and I know you like it, you're just mad that you're going to lose that bet."

Bree crossed her arms stubbornly over her chest, amber eyes carefully watching Jay and calculating his exact next ten moves according to her calculations of his habits and normal actions. "I'm mad that you put the bet on Valentines day more like it," she huffed at him and smacked him again for good measure, "you knew I'd lose setting it up like this."

Jay cracked a rare smirk, "maybe," he shrugged and got closer to her on his hands and knees. Blue eyes twinkling with a soft rare affection for the brunette. He then leaned over, and despite Bree's complaint and pushing him back, lightly kissed his mate.

Causing Bree to adopt a rather goofy expression that made Jay chuckle and sit back on his heels.

"Happy Valentines Day Bree."
