The Greatest Trick…

Before we reveal the final act in this prestigious series of stories, let's do a quick recap of last week's episode!: "One more circuit! It was right in front of me, all along… She told me herself, it was from some great wise-ass man who told her… It was one more circuit! I cannot fucking believe THIS!" Tony was outraged, ranting to Fallon. "I can't believe this… She played me like a violin!" He griped, "Yes, like a well-strung violin…" Fallon agreed awkwardly… "Well-strung…" Tony lifted an eyebrow, seeing that Fallon had a letter from Sukai's lawyer in his prison cell. It simply read: Where's the bloody key? Sukai's messy-handwriting wasn't the only thing, that sent chills up and down Tony's trembling spine… "The Caldwell Family will be visiting you and Mr. Borden, tomorrow evening. Please don't forget that letter." Sukai's lawyer Baits explained. "Caldwell family?" Borden asked, rushing to see what was happening… "Yes, Lord and Lady Caldwell, they're both very wealthy magicians from the lands of Brisbane, Australia…" Baits nodded as Borden stopped him. "Wait! Wait! I'll give them the Prestige… We'll both give em', our Prestige. Right, Tony?" Borden pleaded, "I would, if I could…" Tony blushed deeply. "Don't tell me, you dumbass… You lost your Prestige?" Borden demanded, causing Tony to pick up on what he was hinting at as Fallon nodded sheepishly… "I'm sure, it would do you both well to find Mr. Lopez's Prestige. You'll both be meeting the Caldwell Family, tomorrow evening." Baits grinned, smoothly exiting the scene…

"So, do you mind telling me, one more time… What exactly this magician's disappearing box has do to with Sukai's tragic case of death?" Sukai's double, Erica Draven asked Cutter, who hadn't been paying much attention… Up until now. "This box has two very distinct memories for the late magicians, Sukai and Angier… Especially, for Sukai. She said goodbye to Mr. Lopez, in the most horrific way in this box. Why are you asking, Erica?" Cutter asked her, suddenly realizing her hair was missing only one thing. Red and pink highlights, as the multiple crows circled them and landed all around the inside of the evidence room. "I'm just curious…" Erica grinned sheepishly. As we flashback to Sukai's final performance, she had just disappeared with Angier into the Transported Man Machine… "Angier's murder case had some plot holes in it…" Cutter realized, that this trick was much dirtier than he could've ever imagined! "I thought his double Jerald Sims, was playing him for the sold-out crowds. Sukai and the Great Danton performed, during their last week of shows?" Erica was also more than she appeared to be, from her all-black, leather ensemble and black lipstick which complimented her lips and eyeliner quite well… Though, it didn't resemble a true crow's makeup… 😉 😉 [Sukai: A moment of silence for the late, great Brandon Lee…]… "I thought so too…" Cutter thought aloud, as he remembered Tony was holding a lantern and trying to break Sukai who was drowning in front of him in the magician's box out of the tank… "HEY! HEY! EHH! WHERE'S THE FUCKIN' KEY?! WHERE'S THE BLOODY KEY!?" Tony roared, as Cutter suddenly intervened and began smashing the tank open; right as Angier's drowning corpse locked fingers with Sukai's… "They died together… Performing their beloved trick." Erica added, thoughtfully. "Yea, that was their most beloved trick." Cutter nodded, as Baits arrived to take her home to her family…

The Greatest Trick Pt.2: Don't Look Back…

Finally, the next evening at the Prison, Tony and Borden shook each-other's hands in brotherhood before they met the Caldwell Family… "Don't worry, Jess. I'll be coming home, soon. I promise…" Borden promised handing Jess, his 7-year-old daughter a small shiny red ball that had advanced lights in it. "It's okay, Skyela… I'm coming home to you, I promise…" Tony tried not to cry too hard, as Baits gently handed his child back to her adopted mother. "I'm sure, you'll all be seeing each-other again soon." Lord Caldwell aka Robert Angier/The Great Danton smirked, in his thick Australian accent. "Indeed…" Sukai giggled, as she fed baby-Skyela her bottle gently and lovingly… "Here's my Prestige…" Borden handed Caldwell his secret written on a piece of paper, ripped from the final page of his journal… "Thanks, but no thanks…" Caldwell grinned, ripping it up and watching it catch fire under them in the "burnable-trash-only" garbage ben. "Sukai – Sukai – SKYE?" Tony gasped, realizing it was Lady Caldwell, in all her ageless, beautiful glory glaring at him coldly. "Thanks, Tony…" Sukai handed him, the final page ripped from her own journal. "But I already won." She grinned, her accent was more British than Australian, though it was nice to hear, either way… "You won? How is this winning?" Borden demanded, to the both of them. "You stole our dreams. You stole our goals and lived our happiness out, for yourselves… Now, it's our turn." Lord Caldwell explained, in a heartless tone… "I already won, Tony, dear…" Lady Caldwell, aka Erica Draven/Sukai Todd giggled lightly as held her daughter sweetly in her arms and her daughter seemed to feel safe and warm, without Tony's nearness. "Hey, hey!" Borden & Tony began fighting to break free of their chains; as the guards took them back to their cells. "That's him! That's him, I'M TELLING YOU!" Borden pleaded, yelling like a mad man… "She's alive! She's alive, she's in the flesh! She still loves me…" Tony wasn't as redeemable, of course…

"She already won, Fallon. I guess, this is… This is it, for us. You were a great brother, you even better husband to Sarah. You were so much better than me, in so many ways… So, you have to live on for the both of us. Okay? You live on for our legacy…" Borden was of course, referring to his daughter with Sarah aka Jess. "Lopez, you got anything you wanna say?" He asked Tony, compassionately. "Tell Sukai, I said I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything, but most importantly for taking her for granted, for too long." He replied, somberly. "Yea, whatever he said… Just live on for our legacy…" Borden nodded, as Fallon held back tears and watched as the two men were taken to their hanging… And as Skyela was moved safely by train with her new parents, to Melbourne, Australia… "Any last words, you two?" The same snarky guard asked, Borden first… "Are you watching closely?" He asked him, before hanging him violently as Tony shed one more tear for Sukai, once more… "And you?" The guard smirked, "I guess, that's the price of the greatest trick... It was always just one more…" Tony's noose was tightened, and he was dead, before he could finish his last words.

The Prestige!

"Do you mind telling me, Lord Caldwell? Why we're destroying this machine?" Cutter asked, "And furthermore, where Sukai Todd has disappeared to…" He asked Angier firmly. "Sukai is safe, with her family, now. And I want to make sure, this machine is never used again…" Caldwell nodded, sadly. "You did some awful things with that girl, Robert. Why? Why set her free? Wasn't she just as competitive as Borden was?" Cutter wondered aloud. "No! Don't ever compare those two… Sukai is everything Borden wasn't. She was everything Mr. Lopez was not. She's everything I'm not… She never gave up and in the end, she already won… She had been winning." Caldwell rambled for a bit, as he and Cutter safely placed the Tesla Machine in the very back of the lower-level of the stage in Angier's now abandoned theatre. "Well, I hope that brought you some sort of satisfaction, Rob…" Cutter was still forgiving to Caldwell, even after everything that had happened… "It did, seeing her succeed made me the happiest, I've ever been." Caldwell blushed, deeply. "Ya' know, how I told you after Julia's death that I once saved a man from drowning. And what he said it felt like drowning," Cutter began, "You said, it felt like he was going home?" Caldwell asked him curiously. "I lied, he said it felt like he was dying…" Cutter finished his speech, collectively. "Very well, good day, Cutter." Caldwell nodded, as he put his hat on and left the building…

And, as Cutter left the theatre, for the final time… Fallon headed into the theatre, to finally put an end to this meaningless rivalry that cost him brother. "Cutter? Is that you? Cutter?" Caldwell demanded, only to be shot twice by Fallon; who handsomely revealed his charming tone and nice-looking face; taking off his hat and glasses… "It's over, Angier." Fallon smirked, as he sat down to watch Caldwell die pitifully. "He had a brother – he had a brother? All along… It was too simple… But you were the double, all along." Caldwell was slowly dying. "Of course, we switched roles. We each lived two lives, it was enough for both of us, but enough for the both of them… And after Olivia's death, Borden lost his mind… You're the reason, Angier." Fallon coldly grinned. "I never loved, Olivia…" Caldwell confessed, tears streaking down his cheeks… "True, there's only one woman who was prestigious to gain your attention. And she loved you, too… But, she's not here to rescue her beloved Danton." Fallon chuckled, rudely. "You did awful things, with the Greatest Sailor Moon… Awful, awful things. Why'd you do it?" He asked him, curiously. "Stealing another man's tricks. It didn't cost you anything…" He growled, adding that line as well. "It – it cost me, everything…" Caldwell continued, steadily dying… As we flashback to a scene, where Sukai ran their machine and Angier experienced it for himself… "Come with me…" Angier heard his own voice, flirting with Sukai as he saw his first major clone suddenly take a gun and shoot him to death… "It cost me everything, everything I knew… And I was so scared, every night. Whether I'd be the man in the box, drowning. Or coming home, with Sukai. The Prestige…" Caldwell sobbed, still slowly and surely dying! "Why'd ya do it?" Fallon asked him, wanting the truth before his final act was finished. "To make Sukai happy. To make the audience… To make them happy. The world, this world is – it's a truly miserable, darkening place… And seeing the smiles on people's faces… That beautiful, pure-hearted smile on Sukai's face. You should've seen the spark in her eyes…" Caldwell sobbed, as Fallon stood up and shot him one last time.

"How funny, we found the news, from all the way, here in Australia…" Angier's final clone and Sukai's now husband, Jerald Angier (nice name, ehh?) asked his wife, Sukai Erica Todd… "Yes… It's quite humorous." She nodded, in her unique, American-ish, high-pitched, Lolita-esque voice. "Well, I think it's time for us to head to bed." Sukai smiled, as she gently kissed Skyela who was in her crib. And Fallon was saying goodbye to his daughter, on the foreign news – Jess. Who was finally brought to a stable home, with Baits and his rich family members… "I guess, that's the greatest trick…" Angier grinned, as he and Sukai began making-out. "Yes, it is, my love. The greatest trick is letting them believe, they've figured it all out.. By the end. When in the end, you've already won. You've always been seven steps ahead…" He grinned, kissing her neck passionately… "Yes… I've always won. I was always winning. I never truly lost…" Sukai blushed, as they hit the bed in their fancy, ginormous bedroom… "Yes, you're the real winner, here." Angier groaned, as they made-out harder and harder! Are you watching closely? Do you hear the crows calling you? For every great magician, there are only three parts to the greatest magic trick… First, there is the pledge. You show the audience, the object and make sure they're fully aware of it… Next is the vow, you make that same object disappear… No-one's clapping yet, though. What really makes the audience clap and cheer in applause, is when you can make the final act happen – The prestige… When you make that same object, REAPPEAR! That's when the audience goes wild… "The Prestige…" Sukai moaned, innocently as they continued making love to some jazzy music. It was new music, for a new era… Because, with every great story and every great light show that bursts, there is always at least one more circuit…
