Chapter One: The Rise of Monarque
A young, teenaged girl sighed as she looked out the window in her bedroom, sitting in her wheelchair. She had a fair skin tone, along with blue eyes; and black hair. She wore a t-shirt, with sweatpants, and a pair of pink slippers on her feet. This was Lucille; a girl who was bound to a wheelchair for life; after a horrific accident when she was a young girl.
The door to Lucille's bedroom opened, and a man stepped in. He also had black hair, however, his eyes were a cold shade of brown. He also had a fair skin tone, like his daughter. He was currently wearing what appeared to be a business suit.
"Father?" Lucille questioned. "What is it?" She maneuvers her chair to face her father.
"I got you something," the man, now identified as Lucille's father, replied, holding out what appeared to be a box.
"You did?" Lucille wheeled over, taking the box. "But why? I'm not special; I'm useless. Thanks to my stupid accident, I can no longer walk."
"You can be useful," the man insisted. "Now open the box."
Unsure of what else to say, Lucille opened the box.
Inside the box was a purple brooch that had four strands of light pink fabric coming out from it.
"Oh, it's lovely," Lucille said softly. She puts the brooch on.
As soon as she did that, a form of dark magic seemed to come out from the brooch and cover her.
Lucille let out a silent scream as she tried to stop it; but alas, couldn't. What was happening? What was going on?!
The man watched this, silent for a moment. "Now...Rise from your corruption, Monarque!"
Almost instantly, the dark magic faded, and Lucille looked quite different. Her wheelchair was replaced with a gorgeous throne made out of different shades of purple, and she wore a dark purple-black dress, with dark violet gloves. The brooch was attached to the top of the dress, and she wore a dark silver and violet mask on her face. She was holding a staff in her hands.
"Once I get the Miraculouses of the Black Cat and the Ladybug in my possession, I'll make a wish that will allow me to walk again," Monarque said darkly.
Another male, although much younger than the first one, looked in the room. His skin tone was fair, and his eyes were brown. His hair had been dyed dark brown. He was currently wearing a black button up with jeans and white shoes. Seeing Monarque and the first male made him go wide eyed, instantly turning his attention away from the room and he tried to comprehend what he'd seen.
"Now...to find some negative emotions…" Monarque said to herself quietly.
A male was standing around. He had tanned skin, black spiky hair, and green eyes. He was of average height and was skinny. He wore a blue t-shirt with black pants and black and blue shoes, as well as a black unzipped hoodie that had a rainbow pin on the upper right corner. This was Nikolai.
Not too far from Nikolai were the cheerleaders; practicing their routine. The captain of the cheer squad, had honey-blonde hair, and green eyes. She was wearing a red and gold cheerleading outfit, with a star on it. She had a fair skin tone. This was Kasey Wilson, the most popular girl in school, and the prettiest.
Nikolai watched the cheerleaders practice, however, one in particular caught his eye. That cheerleader was Kasey.
However, someone else seemed to notice this and frowned. This male was muscular, tall, and handsome. His eyes were dark green and his hair was auburn. He was also tanned. He wore a football jersey with shorts and a pair of converse. This was Beckett. He walked up to Nikolai with a frown.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Beckett yelled, making Nikolai turn his attention from Kasey to the angry jock in front of him.
"I was...uh…" Nikolai trailed off, unsure of how to reply.
"I know what you were doing," Beckett replied, scowling. "You were staring at my ex! You pervert, I hope you realize she's waaaaay too out of your league! She'd never fall for an emo heart like you! And nothing your little goth self could do would change that! She'd never date you. Especially not when it's your fault for making her break up with me!"
Nikolai was crestfallen. He looked down at his feet, trying to avoid having eye contact with Beckett.
Seemingly satisfied with the results of his tangent, Beckett smirked to himself and walked away, leaving Nikolai alone.
Pure white butterflies were fluttering around the room that Monarque was in. Her eyes opened, and flashed violet. A victim.
"Ah, a poor, unfortunate soul. Bullied by a jock; for watching a cheerleader. The disappointment; the anger! I can feel the negative emotions growing in this young one. He shall be the perfect victim for my first akuma," Monarque said to herself, as she held out her hand for a butterfly to land on it. As soon as it did; she planted a soft kiss, to turn it into an akuma.
"Go, my evil akuma, and evilise this poor, unfortunate soul!"
The butterfly flew out, going to find its victim, and upon finding him, fluttered down to absorb into the rainbow pin.
Nikolai soon looked up, his expression darkening. The area around his eyes seemed to turn a dark rusted color, and soon a light purple butterfly mask appeared around his eyes as well.
As soon as the connection was made, Monarque's eyes glowed purple. "I can sense the burning anger in you, young man. I can give you the power to get your revenge on those who have wronged you. Lord Darkness, I am Monarque. I'm granting you the power to control shadows. As a bonus, I'll let you use your shadows to corrupt the innocent; and turn them into your puppets. Strike fear into the hearts of many! In exchange; I need you to grab the earrings of the Ladybug; and the ring of the Black Cat. Can I trust you to do this?"
"You got it Monarque!" Nikolai declared darkly, as the dark magic came out from the pin and turned him into Lord Darkness. He now had purple eyes, ash gray skin, and his hair had remained black with a few hints of dark gray. He appeared to be slightly taller and had gained some more muscle. He wore a black shirt, black pants, black boots with chains, and black gloves. He also had a black hoodie with the hood up, masking his face. There were some rips on the hoodie towards the bottom. On that hoodie was a purple pin. Around his eyes as well was a dark purple mask. He was now Lord Darkness, and Nikolai was no longer around.
"Beckett Richard Lawson!" a shrill voice demanded.
Beckett turned to face the source of the voice. He had a semi-decent idea as to who it could be, however, he didn't want to make any immediate assumptions yet.
Storming towards him was his twin sister, Brooklynne. She too, had a tanned skin tone, but her green eyes were lighter; and her hair was a vibrant red. She wore a white and red cheerleader's outfit.
"Well well, what do you want, Brooklynne Rose Lawson?" Beckett asked her, with a taunting smirk on his face. "Whatever it is, there's nothing left to do about it."
"Oh come on! I know it was your fault Kasey dumped you. You were being a big jerk to everyone!" Brooklynne exclaimed.
"And who was the one who led me to becoming a jerk in the first place?" Beckett asked. "After all, it was Brooklynne this, Brooklynne that. How do you think that makes me feel?" he looked fake hurt. "After all, maybe if you weren't the one to suggest asking her out, maybe I wouldn't have been tempted to be meaner after the break up!"
"UGH! I'm sick of you, Beckett! I hate the fact that you have to go around, and be mean to everyone!" Brooklynne scowled.
"And I hate that you have to be Miss Ultimate Goody TwoTwo Shoes," Beckett commented dryly, rolling his eyes as he crossed his arms.
"Newsflash, I'm 10 minutes older than you," Brooklynne smirked.
"Newsflash, that doesn't make you better than me," Beckett retorted. "In fact, it's been proven the younger twins are the better twins."
Brooklynne seemed hurt. "Whatever. I'm done playing your games."
Suddenly, without any warning whatsoever, what appeared to be a shadow got closer and closer to...well. While Beckett would be the obvious choice, it actually got closer to Brooklynne. The shadow then went through her body.
Brooklynne let out a silent scream. She was completely terrified. But suddenly, her eyes turned fully black.
"Brooklynne?" Beckett asked. As much as he didn't want to show it, he was terrified. What was going on and why were his sister's eyes suddenly black?
Brooklynne just stared at her brother, a glare on her face.
"Fool," came a voice that was most definitely not Brooklynne's. However, it was coming out of her mouth. "Tell me where the Miraculouses of the Ladybug and Black Cat are."
"Look, I don't know what you're talking about," Beckett replied. "Can't we just, ta-"
"You idiot," the voice came again. It seemed to be a masculine voice. "Stop covering up your lies with excuses. Now, tell me, where are the Miraculouses of the Ladybug and Black Cat?"
Beckett took a few steps back, and whatever steps he took back, Brooklynne took forward as an attempt to corner him.
"I don't know what you want!" Beckett exclaimed. "Really!"
"Ugh! YOU IDIOTIC FOOL! You're proving to be a useless piece of time. Just tell me where you think the Miraculouses of the Ladybug and the Black Cat are!"
"And I just said, I don't know!" Beckett refuted.
"Well then," Brooklynne growled. "I see no point in continuing this conversation."
Further away from this, Deborah heard shouting from the football field. She ran to hide.
"It looks like Lady Midnight is needed. Plagg, Claws Out!" she exclaimed quietly, not wanting to attract attention. She soon transformed into Lady Midnight, and she was ready for action.
Also farther away from the football field, and away from where Deborah was, Flynn had also heard shouting. He ran to find a place to hide.
"Time for Mariquita to show," Flynn took a deep breath, presumably to calm his nerves. "Tikki, Spots On!" he exclaimed quietly, because he did not want to be found. He soon transformed into Mariquita, anxious but sort of ready for action.
Lady Midnight used her staff to make her way to the football field. She soon arrived, and playfully smiled, as she waited for her partner.
Mariquita soon arrived, having swung over to the football field via yo-yo. He noticed Lady Midnight as he landed. "First battle, huh?" he asked, seeming a bit nervous about this.
"Hey, bugga-boy. It appears so," Lady Midnight replied. "What's the plan?"
"W-What?" Mariquita became internally panicking. He didn't have a plan in mind. He didn't know who they were fighting. He didn't know where Bugaboy had even come from. Oh man, he was so lost.
"Relax," Lady Midnight said, playfully bopping his nose. "Something's wrong with that cheerleader. It's like she's stalking that jock."
Mariquita glanced over to Beckett and the Possessed Brooklynne. "Right. Let's get that problem focused on, for now, I guess."
Lady Midnight used her staff, and jumped into action. "Hey, stop right there!" she shouted confidently.
The Possessed Brooklynne turned and looked at Lady Midnight. "Oh yeah? And how do you plan to stop me?" the voice asked, chuckling menacingly.
"With the help of my partner, we'll stop you," Lady Midnight declared.
"Oh yeah? And where is he now-" the voice came back to say, before feeling something wrapped around Brooklynne's arm. The yo-yo string. "Well that won't be enough to stop me!"
"I wonder what got this person's pants in a twist," Lady Midnight muttered quietly to her partner.
"I don't know," Mariquita whispered back.
"Just remember to capture the akuma. Otherwise, bad things will happen," Lady Midnight whispered.
Mariquita paused. "What...kinds of bad things?" he whispered back to Lady Midnight.
"The akuma could duplicate, and turn people into copies of the akuma previously fought. If that person gets negative emotions again, then the original akuma can control the copies like an army."
Mariquita gulped. That would be a nightmare to deal with.
"You've got me by your side," Lady Midnight told him. "So we can do this."
Mariquita took a deep breath. "Right…we got this." He seemed to calm down a bit.
"Now, let's take down this akuma… and free this girl," Lady Midnight said.
"The only question is, where could the akuma be?" Mariquita asked, trying to find a possible explanation as to where the akuma was.
Suddenly, without warning, it appeared as though a shadow had just left Brooklynne's body. The shadow formed a person. That person being Lord Darkness. "As if I'd give you an answer!" Lord Darkness laughed, creating monsters out of shadows.
Brooklynne seemed pale, putting a hand against her forehead. What had happened? Her eyes widened upon seeing the guy. He was a classmate of hers. "Nikolai?" she gasped, with a whisper.
"Nikolai is no more," Lord Darkness replied, glaring at Brooklynne. "I am now Lord Darkness!"
"Lord...Darkness?" Mariquita repeated, confused.
"Hey, don't insult my name," Lord Darkness scowled at Mariquita.
"I never said anyth-" Mariquita began to speak up.
"Whatever, you're just trying to delay me from accomplishing my goals," Lord Darkness responded ignorantly.
"Whatever they are, you will be stopped by the fabulous heroes: Mariquita and Lady Midnight!" the Black Cat heroine declared confidently.
"Well, the villains will now come out on top," Lord Darkness grinned at Lady Midnight.
"That isn't how stories work?" Mariquita replied. "Good guys win, bad guys lose. You're no exception."
Lady Midnight twirled her staff. "Ready to kick some bad guy butt, Mariquita?"
Mariquita let go of Brooklynne's arm with the yo-yo and nodded. "Ready as I'll ever be…" he replied.
"Then let's charge!" Lady Midnight did some impressive flips as she charged towards the akuma.
Mariquita also charged towards the akuma.
At that moment in time, Brooklynne grabbed her brother's arm.
"Run, you idiot!" she exclaimed.
Beckett ran off the field.
Lady Midnight began to attack Lord Darkness, jumping up to try and grab him.
"We've got to find the object on the akuma. It's something personal," she told Mariquita.
Mariquita took a deep breath. He threw the yo-yo up in the air. "LUCKY CHARM!" he called out. What landed in his hands was a red hair dryer that had black spots. "A...hair dryer?"
"If I had to dry my hair, I would use it right now," Lady Midnight giggled softly, a playful smile on her face.
Mariquita looked around. How could he use this to his advantage?
"You can blow the shadows away," Lady Midnight whispered, trying to help her partner.
Mariquita gave a small nod, turning on the hair dryer and beginning to blow the shadows away.
"NO!" Lord Darkness yelled out in rage.
"Do you see the item, Mariquita?" Lady Midnight asked her partner. "I'll use my power to destroy it."
Mariquita glanced at the akuma. "Is it the...pin?" he guessed.
"We'll soon find out. CATACLYSM!" she yelled, as her hand was infused with a dark energy. She ran forward, and jumped towards the akuma, touching the pin. "BOOM!" she shouted with a grin.
The akuma came fluttering out. It was trying to escape, so it could inevitably start causing, well, more chaos.
"Not so fast, akuma!" Mariquita yelled out, throwing the yo-yo at the akuma. It seemed to catch the butterfly-like-creature, and when he opened the yo-yo again, the butterfly had changed from a dark purplish-black to a pure white.
"Not bad, bugga-boy," Lady Midnight grinned at him. "Now all you've got to do is the cure. Throw your lucky charm in the air; and it will repair all of the damage."
Mariquita took a deep breath and threw the hair dryer in the air. "Miraculous Mariquita!" he yelled out.
All the chaos done was fixed. Lord Darkness himself turned back into Nikolai, who looked confused.
"Pound it?" Lady Midnight held out a fist towards her partner.
"Pound it," Mariquita nodded, fist bumping his partner.
A beep came from her ring. "This kitty's gotta split. See you around, bugga-boy." With that, she used her staff and pole vaulted her way out of the football field.
Mariquita used his yo-yo to swing away from the football field.
Later that day, Kasey was drinking some water. The rest of cheerleading practice had been cancelled because of the akuma attack.
Nikolai was near the area Kasey was at. He was still confused as to what had happened. It was as if he had blacked out.
Kasey soon noticed Nikolai, and stood up. She walked up to him. "Hey, I've seen you watch the cheerleaders practice," she commented.
Nikolai looked at her. "Yeah," he nodded. "I tend to stick around to watch them practice. What made you bring it up?"
Kasey shrugged her shoulders. "You seem like you wanted to talk with one of them." She sat on the ground near him, patting the spot next to her. "Talk to me. Which one of the cheerleaders did you want to speak with?"
"You," Nikolai answered simply.
"Me?" Kasey was confused. "What for?"
"I kinda...like you," Nikolai answered. "I mean, you're so sweet and unlike most cheerleaders...I admire that and that admiration ended up turning into feelings."
Kasey blushed. "You're so sweet. I like you too. But how about we take things slow?"
"Yeah," Nikolai replied, blushing a light pink. "Taking things slow sounds good."
After a super late update; we apologize.
