Disclaimer: I don't own Kimetsu no Yaiba, I just do this for fun.
For some reason, my fics always turn longer than expected. I'm not complaining though. I'm just happy I've finally finished it uwu I had this idea since, uh... the end of April? Well, it's done now uwu
Now, I really turned myself into a fanfiction factory (my best friend word's), but real life problems are piling up again, so I don't know if I'll be able to keep writing before the end of June... Welp, I hope I'll be able to find a solution soon. I always do, but I tend to overthink everything (?)
As per usual, if there are any spelling or grammatical mistakes, thanks to point them out uwu
Please enjoy uwu
A warm and cosy night
Shinobu was tired, both mentally and physically. She had to run all day during her shift, attending patients all day long and sending them to other doctors when needed. Fortunately, it was Saturday, meaning her shift ended earlier than during the rest of the week. She couldn't get home before the sunset though, and it was already pitch-black outside when she finally left her keys in the entrance cabinet. There was nobody home when she arrived, which didn't surprise her. She didn't give it much of a thought: she was tired now and deserved some time to relax.
She went to the bathroom without more delay. Her bath was ready and she couldn't wait to take it. She still showered herself thoughtfully. She always slept better after a good shower. Thoughts of work were still swirling inside her head, but they promptly disappeared once she slid into the bathtub. She let a long, content sigh. The bath was warm and she could feel her tired muscles slowly relax, releasing all the stress accumulated during the day. She had to be careful though, to not fall asleep while bathing. It had happened before. Once, her husband found her sleeping in the bath, dangerously close to drown herself, and he had fussed over her in his own particular way for a week until she snapped back and promised she would be more careful. She did feel bad for making him worry though, and she certainly wasn't planning on dying yet. But it was Saturday anyway, meaning she had a TV show to watch and therefore she couldn't spend too much time in the bath if she didn't want to miss it. It would start in a few moments, and soon she stepped out of her bath. She dried herself up and put on a clean pyjama before going to the kitchen.
She made some tea and grabbed some snacks she had prepared beforehand, and then went to the living room, where she plopped herself down on the couch. She covered herself with a blanket that was already there and turned on the TV. The show was just starting. She didn't really know why she liked that show so much. It was just a silly TV show, where the participants where made to do a lot of really stupid things. Tonight, they had to throw small balls into different tubes to win enough points in order to avoid punishment. If they didn't manage to get enough points, they'll have to eat a spoonful of living locusts. She found it hilarious.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she heard the front door opening and closing. Footsteps followed suit along with a tired "I'm home."
"Welcome back, Giyū-san." She answered, eyes still glued on the TV.
He went straight to the bathroom, without even throwing a glance to her, as tired as she was when she just arrived. She kept watching the show, laughing at the exaggerated horrified expressions of the participants. She felt good. After the bath and while watching the show, she felt more relaxed, even less tired. She liked those Saturday nights, when she could simply enjoy herself at home, soon accompanied by him.
Giyū came back a few moments later, having changed his clothes for a shirt and pyjama pants, and still towelling his hair. He sat beside her without saying anything. Distractedly, she raised her hand and patted his hair. She frowned.
"It's still damp. Give me the towel."
He obeyed silently. She got on her knees—even when they were sitting beside each other he was taller than her—, and started to towel his head, this time with the appropriate movements to dry it faster.
"You're such an airhead sometimes." She said with a light voice. She was in a good mood after all, despite her tiredness.
"I'm not an airhead." His expression didn't change when he answered her.
"Oh, but you're being an airhead right now." She started poking his cheek. "How many times did I told you to dry your hair properly so you don't catch a cold? You just want to give me more work."
He sighed, but didn't answer. He knew there was no point to argue with her, she was just teasing him as always. Instead, he focused his attention on the show. He didn't like those shows as much as Shinobu, but they were good enough to spend some time with her. He'll take that, and that was enough. But why did the participants have to eat living locusts? He unconsciously frowned, and he didn't realize that until his wife started poking his forehead instead of his cheek.
"Don't frown like that, you'll get wrinkles before becoming old." She said with a rather serious tone, but he could still hear the mirth in her voice.
He didn't answer, and she soon stopped her assault on his face and plopped herself down again beside him, leaning closer to him. He moved slightly to find a better position to sit and placed a hand on her shoulder, bringing her closer and letting her rest her head against his chest. They stayed like that for a while, resting in each other's arms, watching the TV. But after a moment she started to grew uncomfortable in that position, and she quickly moved to change positions, though it was not easy because of the blanket and the closeness.
"Shinobu?"
"Just wait a second…"
After a few "wait", "careful" and small grunts, she finally settled herself on his lap, her back resting against his chest, bringing her legs closer to her and using the blanket to cover herself. He hugged her once she finished moving, and rested his chin on the top of her head, taking in her flowery smell. She smelled like wisteria and a bunch of other flowers he couldn't really recognize, but he liked it anyway. To him, it was the smell of home. He could feel her relax further, and the sound of her laugh was like soft music to him. She kept blabbering and commenting on the show, and he just hummed each time in response. It was warm, cosy. She eventually stopped talking, and just enjoyed the show and his warm presence enveloping her, cuddling her. He liked those Saturday nights too, when he could simply spend time with her.
Until she yawned, rather loudly even though she tried to hide it. He looked at the clock. It was past two in the morning.
"We should go to bed." He murmured, knowing quite well what her reaction would be.
"Ngh… No. I don't want to move. I'm comfortable here." She complained, moving on her side so she could hug him.
Although he was glad to know she felt comfortable in his arms, he also knew from experience it wasn't a really good idea to sleep in the couch. They would wake up stiffened and grumpy—or in her case, grumpier than usual.
"Shinobu, it's already late." He tried to reason with her. "And you won't sleep well in the couch."
"I don't care, I'm too tired. I won't move." She retorted, as if it was the end the discussion. It wasn't for him.
He did then what he had to do: he passed his arms under her legs and stood up, carrying her like a little child, with the blanket and everything. She let out a squeak of surprise as she hugged him tighter, her arms around his neck, her legs crossing on his back, fearing to fall down. Once she was sure she would not fall, she slightly pulled apart and gave him an irritated look.
"Giyū-san, mind if you tell me what was that?" She asked rather annoyed.
"You don't want to move, so I'll carry you to bed." He said as if it was the most logical answer.
He was being absolutely serious, neither his expression nor the tone of his voice changed. She was looking at him with a stiffened smile and her cheeks slowly getting warmer. She couldn't take it anymore, and soon she hid her face in the crook of his neck.
"I'll hit you if you let me fall down." Came her muffled voice.
He hummed, and she could fell the air reverberating in his chest.
"I won't." He answered softly.
He turned the lights and the TV off, and soon made his way to their bedroom, his arms gently carrying Shinobu's tired body. She was way too tired to deny it, and her breathing was already becoming slower, deeper, though she was still hugging him firmly.
Their bedroom was dark, but he didn't bother to turn the lights on. He carefully laid her down on their bed, and she quickly went under the covers with all the intention of not waking up until midday. He laid beside her and pulled up the covers, but couldn't sleep yet as she started to poke his face again.
"What?" He asked already half-drowsy. He couldn't see her well, but for some reason he was sure she was frowning.
"You forgot something." She said sternly.
Giyū's mind was already half-sleeping, but he still made an effort to try to guess what she was referring to.
Ah, he remembered.
Even though he couldn't see her, he knew where she was and didn't have any trouble when he crawled closer to kiss her. He could feel her smile.
"Sorry, I forgot."
He felt her cuddle closer, hugging him.
"It's okay now, you're forgiven." She said with a sleepy, content tone. "Good-night, Giyū-san."
He hugged her back, pulling the covers closer, making sure to tuck her in comfortably. She was already sound asleep yet she still snuggled closer to him. He smiled softly.
"Good-night, Shinobu." He whispered in her hair, as he too finally fell asleep.
They simply liked those nights, when they could simply enjoy each other's presence.
A few notes about this fic:
-In modern Japanese houses and apartments, there is a system which allows you to program the timing of your bath, in case you're wondering why Shinobu's bath was already ready when she arrived.
-Japanese TV shows are... something completely apart. I wouldn't be surprised if they had already made people eat living locusts in their programs.
For some reason, I like to imagine Giyuu and Shinobu just cuddling in the bed before sleeping. I'll soon run out of synonyms to keep writing this kind of scene xD I need fluffiness for those two, and I'll just keep writing it because I have nothing better to do (?)
I hope you enjoyed this uwu Until next time nwn
