Prologue

"Do You Believe in Magic?"

"Move it!"

The rain pounded against the dirt trails and foliage, raindrops mixing together on the green round leaves of the bushes and trailing ivy vines. The thick leaves of the treetops over head doing nothing to protect the rag tag group of people from the rain.

"Don't stop moving!" Sopping wet blonde bangs got into amber hued eyes wild with fear and worry. He was crouching beside the broken fence, holding up the barbed wire with bloodied fingers, the fluorescent green blood belonging to the creatures hungry for human flesh.

A deep howl from the forest rattled everyone's eardrums and made more than a few of the small children huddle together and cry, their eyes wide and dirty faces showing nothing but terror and fear.

"It's okay," Another blonde, this one with long platinum blonde hair and her face slightly scarred with old injuries gently ushered the children forward, metal clinking at her waist as she moved. "You'll all be okay, just trust us okay?"

The small children looked at each other before one nodded and nervously took a hold of the woman's hand, the child's small hand trembling with fear and trusting the adult to protect her.

"That's it," the woman offered the child a small smile and began leading the child to the fence, beckoning the other children to follow her even as sparks of blue light lit up the forest.

The sparking light remaining as signs of weapons clashing with thick ivory claws of the creatures hunting them. The feral roars and sharp cries evidence of the fighting behind them all.

"Ivory?" The child's voice was shaking as they looked up at Ivory through scared and wide eyes, "how come you're not back there fighting?"

Ivory's piercing leaf green eyes shone like jagged emeralds in the dim light, fierce with raw untamed power even as she offered the child a gentle smile, "somebody has to protect you guys," she reasoned and gently urged the child through the fence. "I won't let them take you guys no matter what. Nobody will harm you over there okay?"

"You promise?" The child asked weakly, eyeing the fence the man with amber eyes was holding up.

Ivory's eyes were sincere as she pushed the group of children forward, "I promise. Cynthia will protect you there, she'll protect you okay?"

At the words the child crawled through the hole, blonde hair narrowly avoiding catching on the barbed wire.

"But who's Cynthia?" Another child squeaked, round baby blue eyes that matched her father's glowing with uncertainty.

"Jay pull back! Pull back!"

Ivory offered the child as sincere of a smile as she could offer her in the current situation, reaching over and gently tussling her curly hair. "Do you believe in magic Catie?"

Catie nodded, blue eyes round and innocent. "Of course!"

Ivory smiled at her, "Cynthia's voice is magic Catie, her magic will protect you."

There was a howl of pain before an ear piercing cry, "JAY!"

Ivory's free hand went to her back, her fingers gripping the smooth handle of a sword before pulling sharply on it. The pure silver blade making a sharp 'ziiiing' as it was removed from its sheath and glowing like a star as it came free from the metal with a resounding crack as if struck by lightning.

Lightning flashed in the sky above as Ivory stood up and spun on her heel, sending small rocks flying as she began running. Leaving a trail of blinding white light from her sword as she raced forward.

A tenor voice gently urged the small child forward, a calloused hand pushing her gently by the small of the back. "Go on Catie, Cynthia's expecting you over here." His voice was tinged with longing and sadness.

Making the small child wonder if her uncle was okay even as she obediently crawled through the fence to the world beyond.

Chapter Title: Prologue - "Do You Believe in Magic?"

Series Summary: Being blessed with magic did nothing to protect Cynthia against the heartbreak and the ban from the country where her other half lives. Ivory couldn't do anything, and neither could Bree or Jay, but now as time goes on things are just going to get even more complicated. A dome of diamonds will rise from the earth and provide safety from the creatures hunting the scent of humans. All the while the chosen ones hunt for the source of the betrayal buried in gold.
