No excuses shame on me, but the good news is that I have the next chapter and I'm sending to my beta. Hopefully I will post it real soon.
Chapter 7:
Parents
"I'm not avoiding you. I've been busy, that's all."
"It's just that I thought that we'd be together by now. You know with the kiss and all... not the stage one. I'm still sorry about that... but after the library I thought we were cool."
Rachel sighs, lost in thought. Who would've imagined that she would be tuning Finn out while the boy rambles about the reasons why they should be together?
"I mean, I know I was the one who wanted to break up. I should have been more understanding... but we're here now and..."
One year ago, she was over the moon that she was officially dating him. Okay, he spent good part of that summer playing video games with Noah, and she really didn't complain as she knew Puck needed the distraction.
She sighs again thinking about what last summer was to Quinn.
And here she is thinking about her again.
"What do you think?"
Finn is asking her, but what is he asking her?
"About what?"
"The date. I know I kind of failed with you last summer and you wanted..."
"No it's okay." She cuts him off. "Puck needed you."
He smiles at her. That's his girlfriend, or soon to be girlfriend again. And people say she is selfish.
"So can I take you out on a date?"
"Uh..." She gulps nervously. "Okay..." She says unsure.
"Good."
She smiles at him. She is leading him on, she knows it, but what can she do? Quinn is not talking to her and she likes his company, most of the time anyway. Well, she is Rachel Berry it's not like she has a bunch of friends or anything. Not that she is complaining; she is really happy that she has Kurt, Tina and well, Mercedes somehow. But the truth is she just wants one person right now.
"I gotta go." Finn announces.
"Okay."
As soon as she hears the engine of his truck she breathes a sigh of relief.
What am I going to do?
Just when she is about to get away from the torment, when graduation is a year away and she can practically feel New York it's so close to her, she is this mess of feelings and uncertainties.
Right now she is entirely regretting that she once said she appreciates drama.
"It's just a few minutes. I could swear I had bought it. But we can't run out of milk."
Judy says lively as she takes off the seat belt.
Or wine...
Quinn thinks as she takes off her seat belt as well. Mother and daughter walk towards the entrance of the grocery store.
"See if you want something Lucy."
Judy says absentmindedly when they are already in the grocery store and Quinn stops in her tracks.
"What?" The older woman asks confused. "That's your name, isn't it?"
"Yeah... I'll be right back after I get all the snacks and junk food I can manage to find." Quinn says bitterly.
"That wasn't my intention when I called you Lucy." Judy says but Quinn is already gone.
She's walking through the aisles absentmindedly, looking for the apple juice she loves when she hears a very familiar laugh. She loves that laugh. Beth used to kick her belly every time she heard it.
Quinn spots Rachel a few steps away talking to her dads. They seem so happy. She notices.
It doesn't take long for Rachel to see her. They lock their gazes and everything else zones out.
Rachel says something to her dads and leaves them. She walks towards Quinn as the two men stay focused on the juices, clearing stuck on which organic brand to choose from.
"Hey." She says as soon as she gets close.
"Hi."
"It's been a while."
"Barely a month." Quinn says annoyed. Right now, she is just like she used to be, indifferent, distant and cold. This way she can control her urges.
Don't let it show right?
Shut up Lucy!
"Still..." Rachel drops her eyes as she tugs he hair behind her ear.
"Do you want to know something interesting? I passed by your house." She clears her throat. "I mean. It's not that I did it on purpose or anything. I was just passing." She adds lamely.
Rachel nods sadly.
"Anyway. I saw a very familiar truck parked out your front."
"Quinn..."
"Are you happy? You and Finn are back together... A dream come true right?"
Bitch Quinn alert!
Shut up Lucy!
She gets closer to Rachel as the brunette crosses her arms over her chest.
"We're not dating..." She says with a small voice.
"No? You expect me to believe Finn was at your house on a Friday night just out of friendship? We both know that would never happen."
She gets even closer, almost invading Rachel's personal space. What both of them don't know is that Leroy caught their interaction out of the corner of his eye moments ago and is now getting closer.
"No one can stand you Berry."
And then Rachel finally looks up. She looks into Quinn's eyes and smirks. There it is the spark, the passion. Quinn wants her just as much as she wants the blonde and now she can see it. It's not like their previous fights when she was oblivious, now she knows what that gleam on Quinn's eyes mean.
Desire.
She looks at Quinn lips and she almost can feel them pressed against hers. Quinn gulps.
"He was there for one reason only... are you going to open your legs for him?"
"Excuse me?!"
They both come out of their trance and look toward Leroy. He is certainly not pleased.
Rachel licks her lips frustrated.
So close...
Quinn closes her eyes. What was she doing? She was pretty close to kissing, no, to claiming Rachel's lips just there, in the middle of the juice section.
"Hi sir." Quinn says polite, eyes on the floor.
"Don't 'hi sir' me! What were you doing? I'm not going to let you bully Rachel before my eyes."
"Dad, she wasn't."
"Rachel! I heard what she was saying. She was..."
"Just kidding..." Rachel cuts him off. "Quinn wasn't serious."
"I don't know what she did to you. But I know she was serious. Did she threaten you, honey? You don't have to be afraid of her. No matter what she holds against you."
"Quinn, tell dad that you were just kidding, it's just your way-"
"I wasn't kidding." Quinn says serious. "You don't have to protect me Rachel."
Rachel looks at the other girl shocked. "What are you doing?" She mouths the words as Quinn shrugs with a sad smile. She is a bitch and she doesn't deserve Rachel protecting her.
"Let's go, baby girl. I don't want you close to this young lady. I don't know why you're doing this Quinn, but you need to back off. I'm really serious, if I see you doing something like that again I swear-"
"Are you about to threaten my daughter?" Judy asks firmly, moving into the aisle.
"You must be Mrs. Fabray." Leroy turns his attention to Judy.
"Ms Fabray; I kept my name after the divorce." She says calmly. "I understand that you're the infamous Berrys. What I do not understand it's why a middle age man is threatening my teenage daughter in the middle of a grocery store."
"It's just a misunderstanding..." Rachel tries out.
"Your daughter was being disrespectful to my daughter, and I won't tolerate it. I don't know if you are aware but your daughter bullied my daughter on a daily basis at school."
"They're just kids."
"What?" Leroy asks shocked. "Oh I see how it is. She's learned it in her own home. I shouldn't be so surprised, taking into consideration that you raised this young lady. Weren't you and your husband part of that secret society that fights against the gay rights here in Lima? God knows that I'm really not a fan of Shelby, but thank God Beth is going to be far away from your family."
"Dad!" Rachel gasps and covers her mouth shocked, eyes glazed on Quinn.
"Now you went too far, Mr. Berry." Judy states through her teeth.
"Too far indeed. Honey..." Hiram places his hand on Leroy's shoulder. He just approached the group, but he managed to hear Leroy's rant. "What are you doing?"
"I..." Leroy tries to recompose himself. He honestly doesn't know what came over him. Something about Quinn brings out the worst in him. He hates the idea of Rachel suffering the same pain he suffered.
Quinn is hurt and Rachel can tell. All she wants in that moment is to take the blonde in her arms and never let her go. But life has other plans.
"Come on Quinnie. I'm not even going to expect an apology from him." She rakes the Berrys with disdain.
The two blondes walk away as Rachel watches sadly.
"Okay, I know I said really bad things but the way she was talking to you..."
Rachel remains quiet. What can she say? Sure it would be better to come out to her dads, but she can't out Quinn. She is pretty sure Quinn is going to hate her now. Or at least walk away for good.
"I'm sorry about what that man said, honey." Judy says sweetly as they settle in the car.
"It's okay." Quinn smiles weakly and then turns to gaze out the window.
"No it's not. It was a horrible thing to say."
"Are you still part of that 'secret society' and what is that, by the way?
Judy giggles, but she stops when she notices the frown on her daughter's face.
"It's not a secret society. Mr. Berry was just overreacting. It was a group from church. Your father and I was part of it. He wanted to make sure families like..." She sighs. "Like the Berrys, wouldn't exist in the future. He said that if he lived here before that wouldn't have happened."
"That's terrible. Rachel is happy. That should be more important."
"I guess. But it's not that simple." She turns on the car's engine and drives out off the parking lot.
"Why not?"
"I don't know Quinn. I know you have friends in that situation, but you have to understand-"
"What? What do I have to understand?" Quinn bursts out furiously.
"There are really mean and closed minded people out there."
"Like you and dad?"
"I'm not a prejudiced person!" Judy complains annoyed.
"No?"
"No... I would say that I'm a really open minded person, but there are things that just can't be changed honey, it's just the way it is..."
"If Frannie came out to you, what would you do? Would you kick her out? Disown her? What?"
Frannie is a safe choice. She must be careful; she is stepping into dangerous territory here.
"Is Frannie gay? Did she say something to you?" Judy asks panicking.
"No mom..." She rolls her eyes. "It's just an example. Frannie is married remember?"
"Oh... okay..."
Judy breathes a sigh of relief and that's enough of an answer for Quinn. She resumes her previous position and looks out the window.
"Quinnie, you know how it is. Remember what you suffered when you got pregnant, how much you had to endure? How people acted towards?"
"I wouldn't care about any of that had you and dad supported me..." She says resentful.
"I know..."Judy holds on the wheels tightens as she gets tense. "I know..."
"Look..." Quinn turns to her mother. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to..."
"No... It's okay... you're right. My point is that no one wants this. No mother wants that to happen to their daughter."
"What? For them to be gay or to be pregnant at 16?"
"I was talking about the pregnancy, but yes, that too."
Quinn nods sadly. All hope she could still have in her body gone. She wouldn't know however, that Judy meant it in a very protective way. With less trouble, there is less pain, less suffering.
"We need to try and be as less exposed as possible Quinnie. I'm not saying you should be invisible or something, look at you, you couldn't manage it even if you tried. What I meant to say is be yourself, but don't let people see something that could be used against you."
Quinn frowns, mouth open in disbelief.
"I was popular, you know that. I know what it is like to be observed all the time, and people expecting you to make a mistake or something. Of course you have nothing to worry about, you're perfect and beautiful."
"I got pregnant at 16..."
"And you're here... you did what you thought was the best honey." Judy nods prideful. "She will be happy. Now you need to take care of yourself. Be the best again. You're going to rejoin the Cheerios right?"
"I don't know..."
"You have to. With that, a perfect boyfriend and your pretty blonde looks, you'll be prom queen for sure honey. Isn't it what you want?"
"Maybe..." She gets back to gazing out the window.
Maybe not...
Shut up Lucy...
No... Maybe it's time for me to take control...
Maybe you're right...
A mischievous smirk spreads across her face. It's time to people get to know the real Lucy Quinn Fabray. Kind of...
"Stop the car!"
"What?! Why?"
Hiram looks back at his daughter sitting in the back seat of the car.
"I saw someone." Rachel explains eagerly.
He then looks at his husband, who looks back at him confused as well.
"Just a minute..." She says impatiently.
When Hiram finally stops the car and pulls over, she wastes no time and gets out immediately. She closes the door and starts walking towards her target.
"Rachel, what's happening?" Leroy questions her, which makes her uncertain of her next movement.
A few steps away, hanging out at the skate park and surrounded by the worst kind of company (aka the Skanks) is Quinn Fabray. Even though the girl has quite a different hair color, she knows that that is her Quinn. Yes, Quinn is hers. That means she is not happy watching Quinn flirting with an old, really really old skater.
Rachel can't help it, she keeps walking until Quinn spots her and she stops in her tracks. They stare at each other for a moment, with Quinn holding her cigarette in challenge. Rachel is really close to going up to her and taking that cigarette and tossing it away. And then she would grab Quinn's hand and take her away from there, and maybe kiss her just so that stupid guy could back off. However, she doesn't do any of this; Rachel decides to go back instead.
"What was that?" Leroy asks her as she gets in the car.
"I thought I saw a friend."
"Can we go now?" Hiram asks tiredly.
"Yes daddy." She looks out the window towards Quinn.
What's happening? What is Quinn doing? She hasn't seen the girl since their encounter in the grocery store. She needs to talk to Quinn, but she figured that wasn't the best occasion. So she backed off.
But now she is determined, she will see the girl at all costs. If she doesn't want to answer her phone, fine, but if Muhammad doesn't go to the mountain...
Her plan was a little bit dangerous, she knows that. To convince Finn to take her to the Fabray residence was more difficult than she had imagined. First, he kept asking why she wanted to go there, but eventually he understood that it was something to do with glee, and her will to check if all the gleeks were taking care of their respective voices and keeping their minds focused as this year is going to be the year for them. Then he started asking why he couldn't wait for her so he could take her home after she was done. He said that he wanted to protect her as he knew Quinn was still mad at them.
So after a stressful argument, here she is in front of Quinn's house. She says goodbye to Finn and waits until he is gone. She then looks to left and right, checking the area.
"Now I wait..." She goes to the neighbor's sidewalk and sits.
This is her plan, she will wait until Quinn comes out or Judy comes out so she can knock, she is not sure if Quinn wants her mother finding out they are friends.
Are they friends?
She shakes her head as to shake away this thought.
It's a stupid plan, she knows, but it's all she has. If it doesn't work today, she will be back tomorrow and the day after until it works. She only needed Finn today because she didn't know where Quinn lived.
But apparently she is lucky. She smiles happily when she sees Judy Fabray leaving the house in her SUV. She hides behind a tree and waits until Judy is gone.
She then walks towards the front door and when she gets there, she rings the bell.
Nothing.
Many attempts after and still nothing. Sure maybe it was just a few minutes of waiting, but patience is not her virtue. She starts pacing, anxiously.
"What if she is not home?"
She leaves the porch and stares at the fence that leads to the backyard.
She could...
No, that's nonsense. Quinn is probably sleeping or maybe she is out. Hanging out with...
She grimaces.
Ugh!
Feeling completely crazy and stupid she starts climbing the fence, thanking god that she decided to wear jean shorts and not a skirt or a summer dress.
I hope they don't have a dog...
At the top, she takes a deep breath to prepare herself and jumps. She hits the ground and loses her balance a little, twisting her ankle slightly.
"Fu- shit!" She curses under her breath.
She pulls herself together and cleans the dust off of her shorts.
"Okay..." She looks around and then starts walking toward the backyard.
"Where her windo-"
She freezes. Eyes on the pool.
"Quinn!"
She only manages to grab her phone from her pocket and toss it away (it ends up on the floor) before she throws herself in the pool. It's not that she cares about a stupid phone okay? The moment she saw Quinn's motionless body she stopped breathing, but she could need the phone to call an ambulance.
She swims towards the other girl and holds her waist turning her around as Quinn's face was under the water.
"Quinn!"
"Rachel?"
She breathes a sigh of relief, but then she gets mad, furious even.
"What are you doing?!"
"Me? What are you doing? I mean, here?" She stares at Rachel, confused.
Rachel runs her hands over her hair smoothing it and taking it out of her vision; Quinn can help it but look at the scar on Rachel's forehead, the one she finds absolutely cute. She comes back to her senses and focuses on Rachel again.
"I thought you were..."
"What? Oh..." Quinn shrugs.
"Oh? It's all you have to say?" She says irritated.
"I didn't ask you to throw yourself in the pool." Quinn replies with the same tone.
"You're unbelievable." She huffs incredulous. "I didn't think about anything. I just..."
"What you doing here?" Quinn cuts her off impatiently.
"I wanted to talk to you." Rachel says with uncertainty, suddenly very aware that she is still holding Quinn's waist.
"About?" Quinn notices it too.
"You... us..."
"What about Finn?" She retorts upset.
"Can we not talk about him?"
They look at each other, chests still heaving from moments before. Quinn looks down to Rachel's lips, her wet and more kissable than ever, lips.
"How..." She gulps, drawing Rachel's attention to her neck, especially when water droplets are running down that magnificent neck in a slow and sensuous pace. "When you keep going back to him..." She gets closer and Rachel realizes that she is just wearing a bikini.
Of course she is wearing a bikini Rachel; she is in a pool...
It's not really her fault, her eyes move down without her permission.
Oh God...
"I told you..." Rachel swallows as she looks away. "We're not together..."
Looking dejected, Quinn's expression hardens.
"That was me, Rachel. That girl in the grocery store, that was me..."
She says sadly, her eyes shining with unshed tears. And Rachel feels like they already had this conversation, but now it's going to be different. She is not going to be weak and let Quinn go. No, she will fight for her.
"No... You're not like that. Not the real you."
"Yes... I am a-"
"Shut up. Just shut up. I'm not going anywhere." She gets closer.
"Well you should!" Quinn shouts. "I hurt people! That's what I do."
"No, you are the one hurting."
"Please go... I don't want to hurt you. I... I'm a coward." She whines.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to do what I should have done in that parking lot."
"What?" Quinn gets confused.
"Let's just forget the being just friends thing."
She holds Quinn's hips and pulls her into a passionate kiss. Immediately she feels Quinn responding to the kiss, kissing her back with urgency and passion. And in fact, soon Quinn is assuming control and winning their battle for dominance. She can't complain though, she was craving this since they got back from New York. What were they thinking? You can have this much chemistry and not do anything about it.
Several minutes of heavy breathing, moaning, tongues exploring each other's mouths and hands exploring each other's bodies – which was great for Rachel as her hands had more skin on display to explore (she keeps her exploring quite respectful though) – they finally pull away.
"This..." Rachel whispers. "We can't pretend this isn't what we want."
Quinn nods as she leans forward to capture Rachel's lips once again, cupping Rachel's neck and running her thumb over Rachel's cheek. She deepens the kiss fervently, enjoying each second of it; revelling in the fact that she is once again kissing Rachel, tasting her lips, feeling Rachel's tongue invading her mouth so skilfully.
After several minutes of kissing, stopping to breathe, kissing again and again and again, they pull away.
"I should probably go home, you know... I'm wet." Her eyes open widely. "I mean..." She gestures to her body.
"I get it." Quinn smiles, kissing the brunette sweetly this time. "You can borrow something of mine."
"Really?" Rachel asks with a mirthful smile on her face.
"Yes. Come on." Quinn dives and goes towards the ladder.
Rachel watches her every movement as Quinn gets to the ladder and climbs it like a model in some perfume commercial or so it seems to Rachel. The bikini wasn't the bold type; it's pretty of course, but not vulgar. Regardless, it's Quinn Fabray in a bikini.
Quinn in a bikini... and you once thought you were straight... yep totally into that...
She might have a smirk on her face and she might be looking like a horny boy, but whatever she doesn't care.
"Rachel?!"
"Hmm..." Rachel gasps. "What?" She asks self conscious.
"You're going to stay in there all day?" Quinn asks teasingly.
"No... I'm..."
She repeats Quinn's motions and gets out of the pool as well.
Quinn hands her a towel, and then puts on her shorts. Rachel takes the towel and starts looking everywhere but at Quinn.
"Let's go to my room to get some clothes for you. You can use my bathroom."
"Okay." Rachel nods quickly.
"Is something wrong? You seem..."
"Everything's quite perfect." She says in a rush.
"You seem weird now, I mean we were making out just a few minutes ago and now you can't even look at me..."
"Okay okay." She huffs. "I'm trying to be respectful here Quinn, but it's nearly impossible with you wearing so little clothing." She bursts out, blushing slightly.
"What if I don't want you to be respectful?" Quinn gets close and places her hands on Rachel's hips.
"Maybe..." Rachel gulps. "That's not the right word."
"What you mean?" Quinn asks giggly.
"I will always be respectful with you." She cups Quinn's cheek and locks her eyes onto Quinn's hazel ones. "Always." She kisses Quinn's lips slowly but passionately. "But you do things to me and my body that I've never felt before..."
This time, Quinn is the one kissing her, and she kisses greedily and demanding at first but she slows down and pulls away just to give Rachel one more sweet peck on the lips.
"I feel the same way."
"You didn't have to bring me here."
"I wanted to."
"Okay..." She smiles bashfully.
They have yet to talk, and there are lots of things they need to talk about. But they chose to not complicate things as they knew Judy would return home soon. She changed quickly and Quinn said she was going to take Rachel home.
This was really handy as Rachel's plan consisted of getting to the Fabray residence. She didn't plan the leaving bit. She was counting on maybe calling her dads, and giving them another location of course, but she couldn't do it as she was now wearing a different outfit. They would get suspicious. And by now, she has to deal with enough hiding.
So Quinn took her home, and they are parked a few blocks away, just in case.
"I... We... When I'm going to see you again?" Rachel asks unsure, insecure.
"Can I call you?" Quinn looks at Rachel serenely.
"Sure. We need to talk and that's a start."
Quinn nods. "I'm sure you have some questions." She looks down at her lap. Rachel glances quickly at Quinn's hair and nods.
"We can go slowly. As I said I'm not going anywhere."
"Okay."
"I better go..."
She runs her hand through Quinn's pink hair tenderly. She slides her hand to Quinn's cheek and pulls her into a sweet kiss.
"See you."
"Yeah..." Quinn says smiling like a fool.
How can Rachel have so much power over her?
"See you..." She says foolishly.
Lucy got the girl, Lucy got the girl...
Shut up!
She shakes her head in amusement as Rachel gets out of the car.
"For the record, I love the color pink."
Rachel says as she closes the door and starts walking towards her house.
Smiling in a pure state of bliss, Quinn shouts back at Rachel.
"I know!"
We're almost back to where they were in the first chapter! by the way, you guys didn't think romeo and juliet was a random choice uh?
Next: Quinn is going to explain how she started to hang with those people and they will have their first date!
Now be kind and Review :)
