Chapter 8:
Like the fourth of July.
Quinn is organizing her old cds, revelling in the memories of a life that now seems so far way. How has she changed so much? Okay, a little bit of change is good for everyone; to feel good about yourself is essential to succeed in many aspects of a person's life. But did she have to let go of everything? No, of course she didn't. She was just afraid that showing some things about her real self could make people doubt her control. She arrived at McKinley High to be their queen. No weakness was allowed.
"We need to try and be exposed as little as possible Quinnie. I'm not saying you should be invisible or something, look at you, you couldn't manage to even if you tried. What I mean to say is for you to be yourself, but don't let people see something that could be used against you."
She chuckles despite herself. She was probably a disappointment to her mother when she was younger. Then again, she is probably a disappointment now, even baby-bump free.
Quinn sighs and focuses her attention back to the cd in her hand. She is taking them out from a box she kept in her closet.
Spiderman Movie - Soundtrack.
What? She liked the movies. Actually, she had watched the three movies in the movie theater when she was a kid. Dating Sam Evans was a torture. One day he was talking about how he preferred Gwen Stacy over MJ. She had to really contain herself during his speech. What he was thinking? Mary Jane Watson is the real thing. Besides, MJ kind of has this dream of shining on Broadway. Not that that reminded her of anyone.
But of course, she couldn't get into an argument with him about super heroes and their respective girlfriends. He soon would want to talk more and more about that super hero stuff. It was a wise decision because when he broke up with her, he started dating Santana. Of course Santana was going to make him spit out every sordid detail about Quinn. Quinn would have to be a fool to give such precious material to her frenemie.
What about her passion for literature? That was hidden. That is, until she got pregnant and as she was already so low on the school's hierarchy. She figured that showing that side of her couldn't cause that much damage. Besides most of the times she was immersed in some book it was in glee club. Nobody noticed anyway, they were too busy arguing with each other or putting up with Rachel's diva tantrums.
The passion for playing the piano? That was hidden as well. She was planning to impress Rachel that day in the auditorium, but that encounter turned out to be their most odd and yet so enlightening fight. Let's just say that it got a little out of control.
Her passion for drawing... oh well, Rachel knows about that one. Thanks to that lunchtime she spent in the bathroom in sophomore year. And she thought she was straight.
Her passion for a certain obnoxious brunette? Well that goes without saying. She needed to hide that at all costs.
She smiles sadly. She's been avoiding Rachel since summer has begun. But then there was the disaster in the grocery store a few days ago. Rachel of course tried to call her and sent lots of messages. She should have texted her back, but according to her sources, Finn's visits to Rachel's house haven't ceased.
She is stubborn like that.
Suddenly she hears the noise of a glass hitting the floor followed by Judy's scream.
Quinn immediately goes downstairs and she finds her mother in the kitchen cursing and trying to clean the mess she made.
"What happened?"
"Nothing dear... just..." She trails off tiredly.
"Do you want some help?"
Quinn glances at the floor covered with glass fragments and the liquid.
"I can take care of a broken wine bottle Lucy; just go back to your things." Judy says a little upset.
"Fine, whatever..." Quinn sighs and turns on her heels.
She goes back to her bedroom in a rush. "Great..." She groans as she closes her door and sees her phone's screen lighting up signalling she has an incoming text.
She takes her phone and checks the text.
Puck: Alive?
She rolls her eyes. Besides Rachel, she had received one text from Santana because she wanted to know if she was going to a party and another one from Brittany asking whether she had received the text Santana sent or not, and why weren't they hanging out together as she wasn't depressed because of Beth anymore like she was last summer.
She just ignored them.
Puck: Just answer me Q. I don't want to have a chat or anything...
She huffs impatiently. She knows why he is asking; it is because of the last summer. He seemed legitimacy concerned though. She starts typing.
Quinn: Alive
Puck: Good, planning to be locked inside your castle the whole summer?
Quinn: What if I am?
Puck: K, never mind. Take care.
Quinn: You too
She tosses her phone on her bed and gets back to her task.
Minutes later, her phone starts buzzing again. Santana is calling her.
"Hello." She answers.
"Hello bitch."
She rolls her eyes and braces herself.
"Are you grounded or something? I mean, I know you're boring and lame but you're reaching the Berry standards of lameness here Quinn! What are you doing?"
"Look Santana, it's not that I don't appreciate your bitchiness and you insulting me, but I'm going to hang up now. Bye."
"No wait!"
"What?"
"Are you like... okay?"
"I'm a little terrified now. Are you, concerned about me?"
"Of course not. I'm with B right now and she is asking."
"Sure... And yes, I'm okay."
"Look even Berry is doing more stuff than you."
"Good for her." She says in disdain. "What stuff?"
"Well, I don't know… I saw her, Kurt and Blaine at the mall the other day. She even had a video game marathon with Puck and Finn too."
"Wow. How exciting!" She says sarcastically. "Santana, I'm really not interested in your obsession with Rachel..."
Wait! Santana is obsessed with Rachel? Fuck off! I'm the only one allowed to be obsessed with Rachel!
"Why the hell would I be obsessed with Berry? I'm just trying to warn you here. Rachel might be the diva of glee; she might be the captain..."
Quinn smirks at her friend praising Rachel, even if unintentionally.
"But we are the Queens of McKinley. We need to get back on the Cheerios and run that school. Britt and I are going to the try outs. We're preparing ourselves and I hope you're doing the same."
"You know Santana? Its summer break; I really don't want to think about school right now."
"You should; it's our senior year Quinn..."
Quinn throws herself onto her bed and takes a deep breath, Judy's voice echoing in her head. "You have to. With that, a perfect boyfriend and your pretty blonde looks, you'll be prom queen for sure honey. Isn't that what you want?"
"Santana... I don't know... I'm not the same girl I used to be..."
"Is it about that 'I just want somebody to love me' thing? Because really, you're Quinn Fabray; people bow down to you. Boys are always all over you... I'd be jealous, but you know, it's pretty much the same with me..."
"You have Britt..." Quinn says in a small voice.
"Uh..."
She smiles because she knows Santana is totally in love and whipped.
"Yeah I know. What do you mean though?"
"Nothing..."
"Okay, I want the old Quinn back. I want 'Bitch Quinn' back. I know it was hard, with Beth and all. But you have to move on now, Quinn."
"This isn't about Beth..."
"Oh..."
"I mean not entirely anyway..."
"Oh crap... Is it a boy? Are you in love? Did he dump you?"
Santana would understand right? Her relationship with Brittany is not a secret, at least not to her and the glee kids. She could trust Santana, only she can't.
"It's complicated and I don't want to talk about it."
Quinn trusts that Santana knows how she is, as they are somehow a little alike. Therefore, she won't push her to talk.
"Okay."
She was right.
"Santana?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for calling."
"Brittany asked me to do it."
"Still..."
"Yeah okay. Bye."
Santana hangs up the phone and Quinn smiles at her friend's bravados.
After finishing her task, she goes downstairs to get something to eat and goes back to her bedroom and ends up falling asleep while watching TV.
/
In the morning, as she brushes her teeth she stares at her reflection. She spits, washes her mouth and gets back to looking at herself in the mirror. She contemplates her features for a minute, frowning in deep concentration.
A purchased nose with a fake smile; her eyes are empty and shining blonde hair.
"You're very pretty Quinn, the prettiest girl I've met... but you're a lot more than that..."
"Am I?" She says to her reflection, running her fingers through her hair, her blonde hair.
She smirks.
/
Judy's face when she appears to dinner that night with pink hair is priceless.
"Please tell me this is only temporary."
Quinn only shrugs.
The next thing is the nose ring.
Judy nearly faints.
"What are you doing, Quinn?"
"What do you mean?"
"That..." Judy points to the nose ring.
"Oh you mean this thing? Don't worry mother, it was a very conceited place and very clean too."
She smiles and leaves a dumbfounded Judy behind.
She knows she should feel guilty as she is giving her mother another excuse to drink, but she doesn't. She accepts her mother as she is: a failure; a woman who failed to support her daughter when she needed her the most; an alcoholic.
So Judy must accept her the way she is. And she is definitely not the perfect, immaculate blonde princess she so claimed to be in the past.
/
She is smoking, observing the skaters just minding her own business when she is approached by a girl.
"Can I have one?"
She looks at the girl and then to her cigarette and nods.
"Sure..." She hands a cigarette to the girl.
"You're new around here?" The girl asks after she lights up her cigarette.
"Here?"
"Lima." She clarifies as another two other girls approach them.
"No."
"I've never seen you before." The girl turns to the others but they shake their heads as well.
"I'm pretty sure you have." Quinn says in annoyance.
"I think I'd remember. I'm Mack. The Mack."
Quinn arches an eyebrow.
"It's not my real name." She explains annoyed.
"I figured." Quinn replies.
"This is Sheila."
The angry looking black girl nods her head without enthusiasm.
"And that's Ronnie."
The girl with the cap does the same.
"We are-"
"You are the Skanks." Quinn adds. "I'm Quinn Fabray."
They all look surprised as they glance at the girl in front of them. Quinn Fabray? The blonde cheerleader Quinn Fabray? Are they seeing things?
"Wow... You mean, McKinley's little princess."
"More like Queen actually." She says arrogantly; she still has her attitude.
"I don't know about that, you kind of lost your appeal when you joined that loser club." Mack disdains.
Quinn raises her brow. She can't really argue with that actually.
"You should hang out with us sometime."
"I'll think about it." She gets back to her cigarette.
"That's it?"
"Yes."
The summer breeze touches her face as she stares at the horizon thoughtfully. They're sitting on the grass enjoying a pleasant afternoon as the park around them is full of joy and childish noises.
After their encounter at the Fabray residence Quinn kept her promise and called Rachel, eventually. As the option of meeting each other in one of their houses was out of the picture, they settled with meeting in the park.
And now they are in silence, sitting side by side as Quinn just told Rachel everything about her "new look".
"So this..." Rachel gestures to the blonde, well pink haired girl now. "Is your attempt to be less attractive? This is you trying to be ugly?"
"That's not what I meant."
"Because the image I had of you. The image I have created in my mind; that was a fake one?" Rachel continues.
"What?" Quinn frowns confused.
And then Rachel starts laughing. "Sorry, you wanted to be less attractive?"
"I wanted to get rid of that image of-"
"Less attractive..." Rachel keeps laughing.
"I don't know what's so amusing." She huffs.
"Well, you failed miserably." Rachel controls her laughter. "Not your fault though. You could never succeed. Not to me. Ever." She stares at Quinn and they lock eyes, hearts beating fast. "And even though I'm not saying I approve, I think the punk look is well..." She clears her throat. "Hot." She adds in a slightly husky voice as her cheeks turn red.
Quinn is wearing a loose sleeveless shirt combined with a black top underneath, skinny jeans, short combat boots and black nails to complete her look.
"This is me now Rachel. I'm not going back to that girl anymore. If you want-"
"I think you're a little lost Quinn." Rachel cuts her off. "But you'll find yourself, eventually. You're only 17." She kisses Quinn's cheek tenderly. "And..." she trails off playfully. "I don't want to be with you because you're blonde, beautiful and perfect..." She smirks. "Well..."
"Hey!" Quinn nudges the brunette with her shoulder playfully. "I knew it; you were just interested in me because I'm pretty, huh? You were only attracted to my hotness."
She says mockingly.
"Of course not." Rachel raises her brows. "And hotness?"
"Exactly, don't you remember the Glist? And prove it." Quinn says smiling.
"The Glist? You mean the list you made? And how do you expect me to prove it?"
"How do you know I was the one behind the Glist? I don't know, I thought you were smart enough; you are Rachel Berry." Quinn smirks pleased.
"Puh-lease. You placed yourself on top and me at the bottom. Were you trying to be obvious?"
Rachel narrows her eyes.
"Okay fine." She admits childlike.
"I knew it!" Rachel beams satisfied, but her smile vanishes as she remembers that period of their lives.
"It was stupid of me. I wanted to feel good about myself; only I did it at your expense. That was ridiculous and childish and if it wasn't for Mr. Schue, I could've been expelled or whatever. I... I was a bitch, I know and-"
"You are like an oyster..." Rachel cuts her off, her eyes searching Quinn's as she has a serene smile on her lips.
"What?" Quinn nibbles her bottom lip, feeling a little self conscious being the target of such intense look.
"One day, if I'm lucky enough I will open it up and then I'll see it; the most beautiful pearl." Rachel slowly tugs pink hair behind Quinn's ears. "Although, I'll admit that I've been always fascinated by your beauty, that wasn't the reason why I wanted to be close to you. You affect me in a way I can't explain. I'm always so sure about everything in my life Quinn, but one look, one word and you turn me into a mess of feelings and confusion." Rachel takes Quinn's hand. "I was content with Finn."
Quinn averts her eyes in displeasure, looking at their surroundings without focusing on anything in particular. Rachel squeezes the hand she is holding and Quinn drops her eyes at their joined hands. Enjoying the fact they are holding hands.
"It's so easy to deal with him, at least in the sense I know what's going on in his head or that I know what to expect, but I'm Rachel Berry; I don't want easy. I want you."
"You're saying I'm hard to get? Or that you think I am a difficult person?" Quinn narrows her eyes playfully.
"Honestly? Both..." They smile at each other. "I still don't believe you can possibly reciprocate my feelings. And when you said you wanted to be friends, I panicked. I imagined the worst."
"I wanted to start over." Quinn complains. "I did so many stupid things; I was awful to you. I didn't want to risk hurting you Rachel; I wanted you to have me at my best."
"I thought you were regretting everything. Or that I wasn't good enough." She whispers the last part and drops her eyes.
"You are to me." She cups Rachel's cheeks making her look up. "It's not the easiest thing in the world right? Look at Brittany and Santana; I didn't want you to go through the same thing Brittany had to. Santana and I are alike, even though it's painful to me to admit."
"I know... It was very thoughtful, but you know how I am a little bit insecure."
"You are?" Quinn says teasingly.
"Well, maybe not all the time, but when it comes to you..." She sighs. "I am..."
"And that's why I wanted to be friends first. I want you to trust me."
"I do trust you, Quinn." She holds their hands up and kisses Quinn's hand tenderly. "And by the way, Santana is a bitch. You're not like that."
"Santana is repressed, just like me. I understand her."
"If you say so..."
"And I was a bitch. The head bitch in charge actually."
Rachel giggles.
"What was I thinking? Confronting you like that?"
"You weren't thinking." Quinn smiles amused.
"That would be quite a story for our kids."
Rachel says not thinking, but she soon realizes what she just said and her eyes widen. "I mean, I'm not saying we're going to have kids together."
"So we won't?" Quinn pouts.
"No! I mean... I just..." She huffs. "Never mind."
Quinn giggles as she thinks that Rachel couldn't be more adorable if she tried.
"I get it..." She squeezes Rachel's hands tenderly.
Rachel smiles and sighs in contentment. She likes the idea of a future with Quinn. However, they have a lot of steps to take until they can start thinking about anything other than how to make their relationship work.
They stay in a comfortable silence as they are pleased once again with the summer breeze blowing softly and everything is pleasant. Quinn runs her hand on the grass as her thumb from her other hand caresses Rachel's soft hand.
"I kind of want to kiss you right now." Rachel whispers, breaking the silence.
"I kind of want that too." Quinn smiles as she looks at Rachel. She stands up and stretches her hand to help the brunette get up.
"Are we going already?" Rachel asks a little disappointed as she stands.
"No... It's just that..." Quinn clears her throat. "There's an area and... it's quite deserted."
"Isn't it dangerous?"
"It's still early and clear. Come on."
They walk away from the families, the dog walkers, the kids playing and the runners. Quinn, in fact leads them to a deserted spot close to a tree. The only ones to pass by once in awhile and at a reasonable distance are some people out running.
"So..." Rachel smiles bashfully.
"So..." Quinn pulls them close and slowly edges Rachel back onto the tree behind her. She looks at Rachel calmly. She caresses brown hair, tugging it behind Rachel's ear in a caring way. "You said you wanted to kiss me."
"You said that too..."
"Yeah?" Quinn leans her head in, her lips brushing Rachel's lips slightly. So close and yet, not close enough.
"Are you teasing me?" Rachel questions the other girl, her voice reaching a low tone that sends shivers down Quinn's spine.
She swallows hard. "I could never do that." She captures Rachel's upper lip between her own lips, sucking it slightly.
Rachel is just too tempting for Quinn to have the strength to tease her.
She wraps her arms around Rachel's waist and presses their lips together eagerly.
Rachel slides her hand on Quinn's neck, cupping it and pulling them even closer. Quinn opens her mouth, openly inviting Rachel's tongue to explore her mouth.
Soon enough they are making out without a care of who may see. Their only goals at the moment are to taste and to feel.
And in fact Quinn is starting to feel things in a certain area of her body, dangerous feelings, but yet so delightfully good. It's all Rachel's fault, and her gorgeous, tempting, and skilful lips. And delicious! Oh yeah so delicious! Rachel's lips are delicious. And they are hers.
She stops abruptly.
"What's wrong?" Rachel asks confused.
Quinn looks at Rachel's features; her swollen lips looking as tempting as ever.
"You're not going to see Finn anymore right?"
"Taking into consideration the fact that we attend the same school, I think not seeing Finn anymore is quite an unlikely occurrence, but-"
"Can you answer my question instead of being evasive?" Quinn frowns pulling away.
"But..." Rachel restarts firmly. "In the romantic sense of the term, no. I'm not going to see Finn anymore." She cups Quinn's cheeks and pulls her close, pressing their lips together passionately, but Quinn pulls away again.
"I want to ask you something..." Quinn bites down on her lip bashfully.
"What?"
"I... would you... I mean..." She stutters.
"Are you about to ask me out?" Rachel wraps her arms around Quinn's neck.
"Are you going to say yes?"
"Hmm..." Rachel pretends to be thinking.
"Let me help you out sweetheart." She says in that fake sweet tone. "When Quinn Fabray asks you out, you never hesitate." She smiles her 'innocent yet evil Quinn' smile.
"Oh yeah?" Rachel plays along.
Quinn nods mischievously. "You can only say yes."
"Well...I can't argue with that logic."
"You can't." Holding Rachel by the waist, the pink haired girl pulls the brunette into her in one motion. "Say yes." She says smoothly into Rachel's ear.
"Yes." Rachel kisses Quinn's cheek then her neck.
"Good." Quinn pecks her on the lips. "Next Monday at 4?"
"Next Monday?" Rachel frowns confused.
"Yep."
"But that's July 4th..."
"Do you have something else planned?"
"Yes, with my dads."
"Cancel then."
"It's not that easy. They will ask where I'm planning to go and with whom."
"Lie."
"Quinn!" Rachel complains.
"Rachel!" She pouts.
"Alright I will."
"It can't be any other day?"
"It can." She smirks. "But I want to spend the holiday with you, only you."
"Really?" Rachel smiles shyly.
"Well, that's why I asked."
"Okay."
"Really?" The pink haired girl beams.
Rachel melts a little and nods biting her lip as she looks at Quinn with adoration in her eyes. She hates the fact that she has to lie to her dads, but honestly, she would do anything to see that look on Quinn's face again. "Now kiss me." She demands sweetly.
Quinn leans in with a content smile on her face and presses their lips together slowly; she runs the tip of her tongue over Rachel's bottom lip and the brunette smiles teasingly before opening her mouth, moaning in pleasure as Quinn slides her tongue inside her mouth.
"We should go." Rachel says as she pulls away breathless.
"No..." Quinn moans. "More kissing please." She pouts.
"Okay." Rachel says playfully.
What is happening to her? Rachel Berry is acting careless and laid back? Her dads don't even know where she is and she is going to lie to her dads because of Quinn?
The answer is yes and she would do it again. And that scares her.
Convincing her dads wasn't too hard because they actually have a party to attend.
Rachel would be happy to go with them as she kind of likes their friends, but she has better plans for today.
Hiram and Leroy obviously asked her about her plans and she said she was going to hang out with her glee friends. They just lectured her about alcohol and boys, but allowed her to go as they figured she was just going to spend the holiday with Finn.
They end up leaving before her, unaware that that was her plan all along. She says her ride must be late, completely aware of her evasiveness. She knows her father thinks she is waiting for Finn.
As soon as they leave, she calls Quinn.
And soon the pink haired girl is on her porch.
When she opens the door she takes her time to appreciate the sight in front of her, Quinn in all of her punk glory. She smiles at the thought. Besides, she is wearing jean shorts this time, which means those legs on display.
Are you going to stare forever? Could I do that? Rachel, get a grip!
"Hi." She finally says.
"Hi back." She smirks. "Can we go or will we be just standing here?"
"Yeah right, sure." Rachel breaks out of her stupor. She closes the door as Quinn watches her every move.
Rachel pecks Quinn's lips and the taller girl takes Rachel's hand. They walk hand in hand towards Quinn's car with smiles on their faces and happy hearts.
"Is it too risky?" She says as she gets into Quinn's car.
"Maybe, but it'll work. You'll see."
"I hope so." She smiles and leans forward so she can kiss the other girl. She pecks Quinn's lips again as the pink haired girl's face lights up.
"Where are we going?
"That's not important..." She says lively.
"No?"
"Nope."
"Why not?"
"One day I intend to take you on a proper date, like flowers and dinner in the fanciest restaurant, but we're in Lima and we're teenagers…"
Rachel giggles her eyes on Quinn. "Quinn..."
"I'm serious. We could go to Breadsticks. That would be cool I guess, but, I don't want to pretend I'm just your friend on our first date."
"Okay." Rachel nods a little confused. "What are we though?" She says serious.
"Ask me again by the end of the night." Quinn smirks mischievously. "Anyway, I want us to enjoy the holiday together, but I also want it to be special. So... let's go."
Moments later Rachel finally finds out where they are going to spend the holiday as Quinn parks at the Lima Faurot Park.
"I heard the fireworks show is spectacular here, but don't you think there might be some people around?"
"Maybe, but soon it will be dark and then the people will be busy with the fireworks. Now help me here." She says as she opens the trunk. She takes the picnic basket from the trunk and hands it to Rachel.
"A picnic?"
"You're vegan, so a BBQ? Not an option..."
"No..." She shakes her head vehemently.
"So I made our own meal which is totally vegan."
"I think I could fall in love..." Rachel says, staring at the other girl in awe.
"You could?" Quinn arches one brow seductively.
"Don't ruin it..." She tugs her hair behind her ear shyly.
"Okay, let's go." Quinn takes out a guitar case and Rachel stares at her with curiosity.
"Come on." Quinn pushes her shoulder mockingly.
Not long after and they find a quiet spot and settle down.
"Did you like it?" Quinn questions the brunette about the sandwiches she made.
"Yes. Very much."
"You're not just saying that?"
"No I'm not." Rachel gets close and kisses her cheek. "It was really good."
"That's good to hear, I'm actually quite a good at cooking, but I've never tried to prepare vegan recipes before."
"Well, I'll have to check if you really are good as you say. This could be just beginner's luck."
"Challenge accepted." She winks at Rachel. "So, if you approve of the dessert will it be counted as beginner's luck as well?" She teases.
Moments later after she tastes the desert she decided that no, it wasn't beginner's luck.
"This is really not fair."
"What?"
"You're intelligent, superbly beautiful and you're a good person..." She smiles mischievously. "I mean most of the time..."
"Oh really?"
Rachel holds Quinn's hand tenderly and squeezes it.
"And you're also good at cooking?"
"It was just a picnic..." Quinn shrugs.
"Now you're being modest."
"Well, that's also a quality I possess."
They giggle.
"See? It's not fair."
"I think I'm terrible in bed..." Quinn deadpans.
"I think whomever has you in their bed is so lucky." Rachel says unthinking, regretting it immensely as her cheeks redden.
"Thank you, but I think I will want to be good for that person." Quinn chews her lip as she stares intensely at Rachel.
"I think that person would be in ecstasy just to be in the same bed as you. I doubt you could be bad."
"You should ask Puck then..."
"I'd never do such a thing." Rachel says huffish, her nostrils flaring.
"I ruined the moment right?" Quinn grimaces playfully.
"Kind of..."
"I want to show you something..." She says and starts taking her guitar from its case. "I bought it recently and I'm not good, not like with the piano... you know?"
"I actually was excited to hear you play then, but..."
"Yeah..." Quinn drops her eyes. "Sorry."
"Don't be. That day was kind of enlightening."
"Exactly." Quinn nods happily. "It was so strange; I wanted to control myself and my feelings, but I just couldn't. I kept talking and talking and I was overcome by an onslaught of feelings."
"At first, I just thought you were being mean, but then I started thinking and... I don't know." She smiles and looks at Quinn. "When you found me at the hotel pool that day in New York I was thinking about all the things you said."
"Funny you mention New York."
She places the guitar on her lap as Rachel looks at her intrigued.
"I actually wrote this song after we got back from New York."
She swallows hard, suddenly very nervous.
She starts playing and then she sings softly.
You asked what can you do to get it right
I said just smile, it takes my breath away
He will never love you like I love you
Let me be the one, just tonight
Awake in the city
That never sleeps
Getting high with
The taste of your lips
Rachel melts at the sight in front of her. She is absolutely in awe; everything is so perfect right now. Quinn's sweet voice, and the way she is singing is so emotional and passionate, Rachel thinks she might cry at any moment.
I'm not perfect I know
But I'm in love with you
Give me a chance to show you
How much I care
That I'll be there
No matter what
Just say you'll be mine
And I'll be on cloud nine
Oh Oh
Quinn finishes and bites her bottom lip.
"So?" She places the guitar back into the case.
"That was beautiful."
"I know it's kind of silly but..."
Rachel wastes no time and she moves closer, pressing their lips together. And even though part of her knows she should be worried, Quinn doesn't have it in her to care about anything other than kissing Rachel back with the same intensity.
"You wrote a song for me. That's not silly." She giggles.
"What?"
"I think I must be some kind of muse..." She smirks. "People love to write songs about me..."
"Smug aren't we?"
"Aw... you love me."
Quinn knew she was in trouble singing that song with those lyrics. But once again, she couldn't care less.
You have no idea how much...
Too soon Quinn...
Rachel observes her, looking into hazel swirls.
Quinn cups Rachel's cheek looking at chocolate eyes, trying to say without words what she thinks. She is not ready to admit it out loud just yet. "Be my girlfriend?" Quinn asks instead, never moving her eyes.
"I..." Rachel stutters.
Is this real life?
"Yes..." She nods foolishly.
"Oh look, it's nearly the end of the night."
"What?"
They are getting closer and closer to each other.
"You wanted to know what we were..."
Rachel smiles widely.
"What are we?"
"We're girlfriends."
"Just shut up and kiss me." She demands.
They kiss and Rachel sees fireworks. Sure, the fireworks show has started, but the ones she is feeling inside of her are a lot more astounding.
They pull away breathless and more in love than ever, not that they are ready to confess that out loud yet. Quinn leans her forehead on Rachel's and sighs in contentment.
The pyrotechnic show goes on and Rachel turns her head around to watch it. Quinn wraps her arm around Rachel shoulders and they both enjoy the colors and the lights of the Fourth of July.
See? It all started with a song… and fireworks.
I know you all will complain when Finn get back, but you know Rachel is with him and thinking about whether she should lose her virginity or not (chapter 1) and we're almost getting there. You also know that at first Rachel is going to fake date him. So, just be patient, they will fix their issues, and we will move on from there.
So next: Quinn will ask Rachel to fake date Finn, but she has her reasons, and they are not selfish reasons.
