Hey guys, sorry about me whining about reviews last chapter. I'm a drama queen. Sorry. But hey! here's another chapter to make up for it.

Chapter 14:

The break part 1

Everything is a mess right now. She should've known that having her biological mother around was going to be trouble. "Trouble" being a key word here. Actually, her relationship with Shelby is not the issue; they are in a good place since the day Rachel asked Shelby whether she could sign that recommendation letter for her. They are friendly close, but not that close. Sure, at that point, Shelby was there because apparently Sugar was a spoiled rich girl who wanted her own Glee club as she wasn't accepted in New Directions. Now, the problem is that once again, Mercedes decided to be a brat. Mercedes' performance wasn't better than hers (despite the fact that she got insecure to the point she said that to Finn), but she was willing to share the spotlight with her friend. Which was a big deal for Rachel.

Finn is actually being a decent friend (or boyfriend to him) these last days. He was there to support and watch her audition. Quinn, on the other hand is being weird and distant. So this is her life right now, Glee club is cracked, Mercedes, Santana and Brittany are part of the trouble tones, their coach being none other than Shelby Corcoran.

To make everything worse, Quinn has been meeting with Puck very often and when Rachel asks about it, she is always evasive. It's not just about jealousy, Rachel has a guess that this is not going to end well. Her biggest fear is that Quinn may end up hurting, even more. Quinn tries to be strong and she hates showing vulnerability, but Rachel knows her girlfriend is lost. She knows the detachment was an awful experience to Quinn even though she knows Quinn did what was the best for them both. For Beth especially. But looking back now, she feels as if they should've been more supportive to Quinn. The blonde girl got back after that summer break acting as if nothing had happened. And one need not be an expert to know that this is a trigger to a train wreck of emotional issues.

Rachel gets her confirmation when she eavesdrop on them. She is not proud of it though, but as she listens to the conversation Puck and Quinn are having in an empty classroom, she decides it is for the best.

"Did I hear it right?"

She says to Quinn's back when her girlfriend is leaving the room. The now blonde-haired girl closes her eyes the moment she hears Rachel's voice. She prepares herself mentally as she turns around to face the brunette.

"I see you're still into eavesdropping on me?" Quinn arches one of her eyebrows. She is trying to soothe her girlfriend. She knows it won't work though. Especially when Rachel is looking at her as if Quinn had cheated on her or something.

"This is too serious for me to be ashamed. And I don't regret if I get to put on some sense into your head."

"This is why I haven't told you."

"We need to talk. But I don't want to do this here."

She looks around the hallway.

"After school." Rachel walks away, leaving a thoughtful Quinn behind.

In reality, she knows Rachel only wants to talk about Beth and to persuade her so she will drop her scheming. But she is resolute, like she has never been before. Beth is her perfect thing, something even she can screw up. And she needs her baby back. If Rachel is not going to back her up on this, she is scared of what this could mean for them.

"You can't have her back. This is nonsense."

Storming in her bedroom, Rachel barely waits Quinn get inside and close the door to start her rant.

"This is why you've been so mysterious every time I ask you about what you've been doing with Puck?"

"You don't understand."

"But he does? Is what this is all about?"

"Not what I meant."

"What is it then Quinn?" Rachel says, exasperated.

Seeing her girlfriend state of mind, Quinn gets close and holds Rachel's arms.

"Rach…"

"Don't Rach me…" Rachel pulls away, putting on some distance between them.

Quinn notices it and the red alarms on her head start ringing instantly.

"What's going on? Please don't shut me out." Rachel pleads.

"I need her. I have to do this."

"You're going to hurt yourself. Please, let me help you. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you needed last year, when you were heartbroken over this."

"Help me now then. Help me get her back."

"I can't do that baby. This is a terrible idea." She says whiningly.

"Fine. I'm used to it. People always let me down. Of course you would too." Quinn shakes her head in disappointment.

"What? I love you." Rachel says fervently. "I'm here for you. I'll fix you."

Rachel 's intentions are pure, she means it in a good way. But as Quinn hears these words, all she can think is that Rachel thinks she is something that needs to be fixed.

"That came out wrong." Rachel licks her lips anxiously. "I meant that I'll help you to heal."

"No, you said it right as it is. You always says how you love all of me or how I am more than a pretty face to you. But this is what this is about."

She gestures between them.

"You want the pretty blonde Quinn back. You want the Head Cheerleader. The soon to be prom Queen. But guess what Rachel I'm a teenager mother, my life is a mess and I don't know what to do about it!"

Okay, maybe she is projecting right now. She is throwing on Rachel what she wanted to say to her mother. Luckily, for her, Rachel can see right through it.

"You're seventeen! It is okay to be lost." The brunette shouts, frustrated. "Especially after what you've been through."

"I won't give up on her."

Stubbornness is a Fabray trait, unfortunately.

"I can't."

Rachel sighs, complete heartbroken as tears run down her face. She cannot condone this nonsense. This is not about Shelby; this is not even about Quinn to her. This is about Beth. She wants Quinn to have a relationship with her daughter and she even can visualize it right here, right now. However, the picture she is visualizing in her head won't be a reality if Quinn keep up with her stupid idea. Shelby may want to take Beth away from Quinn's life for good.

"You can't what?" Quinn asks, worried.

"I won't watch you ruin your life like that."

"Are you breaking up with me?"

She isn't.

But she thinks they need a break. Quinn needs time to work on her emotional issues and their relationship is complicated as it is. There is the fear of being caught, her mother, the extra stress that is her jealousy because of Finn. This is just too much. As for Rachel she thinks it's time for her to be different. She doesn't want to be obsessed with the idea of having someone to love her. So she feels validated somehow. No, she loves Quinn, so much, but now, Quinn needs her as a friend. More than as a lover.

"No. But I think we need a break."

"This is perfect. I never thought you'd do this to me."

She starts walking backwards, holding back her tears.

"Quinn wait."

It's too late. Quinn's mind is a turmoil right now. Past ghosts haunting her. Thoughts of not being good enough. She is feeling useless, unlovable and disposable. Therefore, she does what she does best; she shuts down, she builds walls.

She runs away.

"It's not what you're thinking. Please, let me explain."

Rachel runs after her, but Quinn is unstoppable now. She gets in her car, starts the engineer and drives away, leaving an appalled Rachel behind.
